This is just a thought, but... a kind of entire cage made of horsehair braid, with weights at the front to make the back stick out if it doesn't on its own?

I say horsehair and not interfacing because in my experience stiff interfacing is more prone to creasing and less flowy folds, while horsehair does stiff curves beautifully. And crinoline layers to fluff it up. You could do it like a ballet tutu, starting with very short layers just above the crotch and layering on progressively longer and longer gathered layers that are supported by the short layers beneath to get distance without as much droop.

If you incorporate asymmetrical boning, steel or otherwise, you're gonna want to be very conscious of the balance. Someone else tried this on some Chobits thing iirc and didn't balance it, so her panties showed all con.

I'd start with lots of sketches first though, to figure out what exactly you ideally want this magical effect to look like in real life.

Instead of a white acrylic globe, look for a glass globe like would be used in gardening or old-fashioned streetlights. I don't know if you'd be able to make it one-way opaque, though. It' just that -- the end result that the crafters show is one of an armoured costume in which you can't notice any seams or gaps. It's as if they managed to cover their entire armour piece or component with vinyl --- however, that's not the case given they all show you start with small pieces.
Sure, seams get formed but there has to be a reason or way how they can make their vinyl-covered armour as "seamless" (the gaps are barely visible) as possible.

You won't be able to get a poof with a raglan sleeve as well as it would skew the fit of the entire shoulder area. Raglan sleeves are just a way of getting around sleeve cap easing you may as well keep the seam. Leg of mutton and gigot sleeves will give you the volume in the cap and the shoulder seam gives you more control of the size of your poof. I'd say do two pieces.

Okay, I'm referring to tutorials like this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_bMBvX40JTU

In the beginning, she shows a completely build chest armour that's apparently covered with fabric. You don't notice any seam or gap at the armor -- it looks perfectly clean, as if it was made in one piece.
But then when she does a demonstration, she works with a small piece of foam and it seems to imply that to get the big complete foam armor, you have to build it by attaching numerous small pieces of vinyl-covered foam together.

So HOW do you do that? How do you attach numerous small pieces of vinyl-covered foam together WHILE making the work as seamless as possible, APPEARANCE-WISE. Is it a matter of filling the gaps with some red paint or hot glue? Do I just need to use as little super glue as possible?

I just don't want to end up with some crappy looking armour of which people can easily detect or note "Oh hey, it looks like a fucking jigzaw puzzle. The seam / gap / the place where the glue of one piece sticks to the other is EASILY noticeable."

Any reason you want to get Ben Nye body paint? There are lots of other brands that are as good or better than Ben Nye, and taking a look at amazon.ca, some of them have pretty good pricing. Snazaroo and Mehron Paradise both look like they're priced reasonably, and both had a great selection of colors (Snazaroo is cheaper, but also not as pigmented.) Mehron's Barrier Spray is also on Amazon.ca, and that stuff is great.

You might also try sites like Silly Farm or Jest Paint. Both of them sell great stuff and they both ship internationally (sorry, I don't know the prices.)

If you have theater stores nearby, check and see if they have Snaz, Wolfe FX, Kryolan Aquacolor, Mehron Paradise, Cameleon, kryvaline, or Ben Nye. A lot of these companies will have a "locate in stores" link, see if that will help.

...Isn't the whole point of using 4-way stretch fabric to make it possible to cover curves? As for the holes, just cut into the fabric and then bring it toward the inside? But this doesn't quite seem to be your point, so I won't spend time/effort MS Painting the process unless you tell me to.

Without knowing how complicated the helmet is, I'm going to assume it's more or less smooth - in which case it's probably most efficient to start gluing the fabric from the top, working toward the front until reaching the visor/neck hole, and same for in the back? Since the helmet is such an extreme complex curve, I think I can see what you mean by "seams", as you'll probably end up with extra fabric in some places due to the wraparound. If it were me, I'd probably first do my best to keep the rest of the helmet wrinkle-free by stretching the fabric as carefully and smoothly as possible, and then if there are any details that I can hide the inevitable seam lines under, try to keep them confined to that area so I can just glue on the details on top. Otherwise, if it's completely bare, I'd probably just try to keep it to the very back of the helmet and cut what amounts to a dart into the bottom back of it, since not many people will see it from there.

That's a lot of tl;dr for not a lot of help, sorry. Your conversation with someone else intrigued me and I tried, but I guess I didn't do much. Good luck with whatever you're making!

I've been thinking about this, and I've come with an solution -- I hope. Instead of working with small pieces of foam, I'll only initiate "the vinyl over foam" phase when I've larger foam pieces that are components for different angles (i.e. the back part, front part, side parts).

And because I attach a vinyl-covered foam side part to the front part, you won't notice that seam or gap in-between the attached/glued parts unless you look at it from a certain angle.
Eh, I'm horrible at explaining this shit -- so, I'm gonna use a drawing.

Scenario #1 is the one I want to reach, and scenario #2 is the one I want to avoid. Both start with foam parts attaching to each other, becoming the front plate. In the first case, the result is very clean, no gap or seam to be seen whereas in the second case, it's crappy done and you can obviously notice the point where the parts connect or glue to each other.
That said, I could attach them and THEN cover the complete piece with vinyl. That's possible since it's still a single flat piece, just bigger. However, when it comes to taking the other angles / sides in account of a completed chest armour (one that has a front, a back and two sides)... it becomes really tricky. Sure, I can cut a hole in the fabric, but that's a really tricky thing to do if you ask me.

Please look into PAX paints from the neck down.

Some claim it can be done with water based or greasepaints makeup, but all the final seal in the world hasn't made as reliable a makeup as PAX. Plus, even if it does wear off a tiny bit, you don't get any smears all over your clothes-- it'll fall like dry paint, and I only had that happen to me on the very tips of my fingers. PAX is also easier to do really detailed work or clean lines with since it behaves like, well, acrylic paint. This will be good for those flame desings on the arms, if that's what you're painting.

So im working in this Kotori outfit (pic related and i cant figure out how to make the shirt...

I bought all the fabric but i cant figure a pattern for the shirt. From what i can gather its like a blouse with puffy sleeves and a band collar (like a chefs collar) but the panel on the front is not like a chefs shirt... Honestly, it just looks like a panel slapped on top of the blouse, though. For cosplay purposes I don't see why just sewing it onto the shirt without it functioning is necessarily an issue. There's also tons of tutorials and patterns for puff sleeves online. You might have to assemble bits and pieces from other patterns, but it doesn't seem too hard.

I'm reasonably new to auctions and have two questions for you seagulls:
1. is it more profitable to sell things as a set than individually, and 2. why do people bid on an auction when the end date is still days away? As far as I see it, it's just driving up the end price and makes me think that the seller has convinced a friend to bid on it for just that reason.
Thanks in advance guys.

not more profitable, but that way you don't risk having leftover pieces that you are unable to sell.

Maybe not DAYS away, but usually it's to prevent a snipe bid war - imagine if everyone tried to bid in the last 30m, shit would get crazy.

Oh boy auction questions, I have experience moving 1500+ items in the past 3 years on eBay.

>1. is it more profitable to sell things as a set than individually
It will depend on what the item/set is exactly, but generally I've found that it's better to sell individually because people will have an absolute max budget at a given time and sometimes they're willing to blow it all on one thing. Some things are only sold in sets to start with from manufacturers and people are willing to pay a lot more for an individual item from the set so that they can avoid paying the price for the full set or having pieces from the set that they don't want or need...even if the individual item is marked up by 200-300%.

>2. why do people bid on an auction when the end date is still days away?
Can be many factors or a mix of them. Impulse bid. To get rid of the Buy It Now option & prevent others from sniping. The person can't be there on the day/hour of the end of the auction. Not everyone thinks like you do, etc, etc. Emotions can override logic and that's why people are even buying overpriced junk on eBay in the first place.

Yeah definite no on burlap. Heavy canvas or maybe even wool and heavily distressed. See if there's some military surplus stores in your area that carry huge pants like this that you could modify before making them from scratch. Though PAX is made from non-toxic acrylic paint, that does not mean that its meant to go on skin. PAX is hard to get off, often requiring rubbing alcohol to remove, which is very harsh on skin, and can lead to bad reactions because it has not been evaluated by the FDA for cosmetic safety.

I'm glad that PAX worked for you, but please make sure you let others know about the potential risks associated with that method of body paint, the same way you would with circle lenses. I'd much love to make my own costumes for fun (even with the stress) so I plan on learning some basic sewing/quilting/knitting with my aunt.

Just, is there anything basic that I could do? I do have a hobby that could possibly help, as I have lots of fun thrifting for retro (60's-80's) men's dresswear, and even have a bespoke jacket from my adventures. Whenever a friend asks about my dresswear, they ask how I don't burn up in my jackets, and I usually have tot ell them I wear a good wool with a linen shirt for maximum comfort. My 'baby' I have to get tailored to me is a wonderful mixture of silk, cashmere, and wool that gives nearly the perks of all and breathes like a king. Good point. The reason I think(?) it works so well is that the fibers aren't sewn to lay flat forward as bangs, so they flip over themselves when combed forward without heat. So you might look for that in other wigs, like ones made for Legolas. Maybe that'll get you a similar effect on a smaller size.

Side parts are also more difficult on wigs that fall from a single point on top, imo.

Hopefully I'm in the right thread.

I'll be doing my first semi-serious cosplay at AX. It'll mostly just be a humanized Bowser Jr, since I did the design on a dust mask at Fanime ages back and want to get it done right since it went over pretty well. I'll be getting some green converse and a spike wrist collar (hot topic because i'm so edgy)

I designed the mouth in Photoshop and had it silkscreened on various color fabrics, the teeth are transparent so it looks normal on white, and there's also a red and green variant I could opt for instead, both of which look pretty good.

My question is can anyone think of a good accessory to go with it? I'd like to refrain from any chain shit at all because of the airport, but if it looks good enough I'll risk it. Currently I have a pocket bandana I was gonna wear with the mask from Sunshine, but I think there's better options that I'm not considering.

I'm thinking of a yellow/tan Thermal shirt but the heat kinda scares me. I was going to go for tan jeans and a white v-neck shirt but now I'm kinda iffy. Any input would be very appreciated!

also edgy angle is edgy

I fold them and put them flat into a bigger, 9" X 12" yellow envelope with the original pattern envelope & any unused pieces so that I don't have to wrestle everything back into the original tiny envelope. I also label the yellow envelope as well.

>>8432228
You pleat the outer shell of the skirt body first, then baste the lining on to the top hem of that before sewing the waistband on. You do not pleat the lining. Instead, the lining is usually a circle/flared skirt. In the case of the design you've linked, you can actually make the lining even less full and simply have side vents to allow ease of movement.

Creative cutting on the bias/drape will only get you so far. If the fabric doesn't have any stretch content, chances are you'll have to sew darts or curves into it and accept that you won't have a completely seamless piece. I'm going to camwhore( like, chaturbate) for the first time in the next few weeks, and I wanna wear a wig and some make up to obscure my identity a bit. cheapo make up is easy enough to get, I can go to the 99¢ store or make lipstick and eyeshadow with crayons.
But a wig is more difficult. I only need it to look good/natural through my webcam, but I want to spend as little money as possible.

Is the droop caused by shanks on the buttons?
Without modifying the buttons or buying new ones, the best thing to do is to counter the weight of the buttons by either applying interfacing/stabilizer to the backside of the fabric of where they go so that there's a strong surface to help holding them up. The stiffest possible would be to put a counterweight button on the underside (a flat, smaller button) and sew through both buttons simultaneously.

This dress, does anyone know more about it? Where could I get it? Is it a knockoff of some other designer's work? Is there a way to buy it without going through Milanoo? I know nothing beyond wanting to wear this dress and that Milanoo is known for being crap.

You can rip out the zippers but you will still have pockets there. If you're determined to use the jacket then just put the pouches over them or tweak the design slightly. I say just find a plainer jacket.

I actually vote a good nail polish or other enamel paint. Acrylic will scratch off if it isn't sealed with something good. Worst case they're metal so you can always clean off the paint with a solvent and redo it.

I'm planning to cosplay Alice from Virtue's Last Reward. I found a tutorial to fake big boobs but I'm also interested in seeing how feasible a body stocking to cover my abdomen would be. I have stretch marks and I think it would be easier to just deal with a body stocking than having to use body paint to color them out. Any advice besides "Don't do it" would be helpful.

>> No.8439998

>>8439994
Please upload pictures when you finish! Also, I think that the body stocking wouldn't be too bad an idea if you find a way to make the belly button look natural. If not, I'd say to just use regular makeup or self-tanner to blur out the stretch marks.

Crossposting here, because maybe the question isn't as stupid as I originally thought. Is there a big difference between PETG and clear polycarbonate? I need help/advice...

I bought a cheapo faux red leather Star Lord coat offf ebay (mistake #1). I also did this wway too last minute (mistake #2). Now I have this giant puffy monstrosity of a jacket that is supposed to be slim fitting. Looks like I'm a kid wearing his dad's jacket or something.

I have until Saturday to try and make improvements. I was thinking I could do it myself but then I watched a tailoring video about bringing in the shoulders and I am nowhere near good enough to do that (I also don't even have a sewing machine). I'm pretty sure everything is closed today (Canada Day) and I don't know if I can find someone to do it tomorrow that will get it done by Saturday morning. Even if I do, it will most likely cost me a fortune (way more than the value of the coat) due to the amount of work that needs to be done.

Anybody know whether it'd be cheaper to buy a bunch or wefts or a new wig entirely? For the same amount of hair, I mean. I need to make a really thick wig.

>> No.8443619

>>8443608
It depends on where you get the wefts from and the wig style. Epic cosplay's wefts are a joke, you barely get any. Arda gives you a hefty amount of wefts - maybe 1/2 of a full wig. depending on the style. If you're making a long wig, get the wefts, you'll save a lot of time that way. If it's a short wig, buying a second wig will be more time effective because you don't have to do any trimming/styling.

Time isn't really an issue for me. Would it be reasonable to estimate that two packs of long wefts from arda would be approximately the amount of fibers on, say, a long straight wig from wigisfashion? I'm willing to spend time harvesting the wefts if it ends up cheaper.
