Have you had any bad contact catastrophes ?

>> No.8403306

Not a catastrophe and extremely mild story. Green texting because I'm autistic.

>con dance with friends
>friend goes a bit nuts dancing and accidentally slaps me in the eye
>contact falls out and miraculously lands on shoulder
>rush out of ballroom in an attempt to save contact (it was a gorgeous orchid purple color and last one in stock)

>struggle for a good 10 minutes full of tears and blinking
>finally get 1 in
>entire sclera is blood red

My eye went back to normal, but I'm not touching contacts until I can get an eye exam and get something from America's Best or some place similar.

For very sensitive eyes I suggest Biotrue. This is the closest thing to Aculense I have ever found since Acu got discontinued. I have very, VERY sensitive eyes. Even though I have been wearing them for years for conventions I still have trouble putting lenses in. It helps soothe your eyes if you have trouble which is great for me. This solution doesn't sting, red your eyes, dry out your eyes, or itch. It is AMAZING.

Honestly, tried and hated it. I thought it was actually very drying for my contacts. To each their own, though. I always heard great things about Biotrue, and I'm sure I'm sure I'm just some crazy exception. I just don't recommend anyone to insist like I did if it doesn't seem to work out, because my eyesight has gotten officially worse (checked with doctor) after a month wearing it. Six months since then, it's still not back to my normal degree.

On a horror story, which should begin by mentioning that it's been a while since I completely changed my normal lenses for circle lenses and never had a problem
However, last year

>finally go to sleep
>we forgot flashlights
>I'm trying to remove contacts
>can't
>REALLY CAN'T
>panic mode, call friend to come with me to the bathroom
>storm made all lights black out in the festival too
>Jesus, how do I get this out of my eye now
>friend does some crazy thing where he pressed my eye so strongly it nearly bruised

The eye irritation happened because coloured contacts are kind of harsh (relative to the prescription regular-wear contacts I'm used to) *and* the little jar they arrive in is full of pickling solution (to preserve the lens before it gets taken out and used), not contact solution (which is formulated to be safe for eyes)! And -of course- everyone's first time wearing contacts is always uncomfortable because your eyeballs are freaking out about the lens you just shoved in there. You probably know better by now, but
>the more you know.gif

It's also possible that you have astigmatism (your eyeball is shaped like a football instead of a sphere). My left eye is astigmatic - when I mentioned to my optometrist that I wanted to get coloured contacts, she insisted on ordering from a "trusted supplier." It turned out that she hadn't taken my base curve into account, so an hour into wearing my first set, my left eye was inflamed, dry, and painful. I later ordered some circle lenses from PinkyParadise that are just as comfortable as regular-wear lenses imo.

>7 hours of lens wear, eyes feel like they're made of sandpaper
>8 hours, it hurts to blink
>lens case at hotel
>I paid too much for these to just take them out
>10 hours, get back to hotel, take out lenses, wash out eyes with water and eye drops
>go out, have fun, eat sandwich, go to bed

the next morning

>try to open eyes
>can't
>manage to crack one eye open
>literal centimeter circle around each eye of encrusted mucus and gunk
>remove with water
>there was still a little bit in the inner corner of my left eye
>pull at it with fingers
>what looks like a worm of mucus unwinds from my eye socket, roughly two inches long when i get it all out
>the same happens with the other eye
>my eyes didn't hurt at all, but i had to clean this stuff out every 10-15 minutes or i would be unable to see through it
>this shit continued for a week and a half

My optician informed me that it wasn't the lenses per se, but a bit of bacteria or something from my finger got caught under them when I was adjusting them.

Another, though again this is less on the part of the lenses:

>Last big convention I went to
>Sunday, went as Stocking in her school uniform
>Again, bought lenses specifically for this cosplay
>they look great, i fucking love them
>put my lashes on
>they look perfect also
>get to con
>10 minutes in, eyes start itching
>I can feel my eyes watering
>wipe away water
>look at hand
>red
>blood
>actual blood leaking from eye socket
>I AM CRYING TEARS OF FUCKING BLOOD AT A CONVENTION
>NOTHING HAS EVER BEEN MORE FITTING
>End up leaving early because my eyes hurt so much
>Also because blood
>Get back to hostel
>Lashes off
>lenses out
>wash out eyes while partially blind
>spot what I believe to be a bit of mucus in my right eye
>pull it out
>feel the oddest sensation of something tearing
>more blood occurs
>flip lower eyelid down to investigate/clean
>It is about then that I realise that the membrane/skin that covers the inside of my eyelid is gone
>One of the veins is slightly exposed
>Have a repeat of waking up with blood/mucus crust combo the next morning
>Friend J has to help me get back through London because I can't see, which is ironic considering she's practically blind anyway
>We make it home in one piece anyway

>I went to the doctors about it, he informed me that the irritation was chemical first and foremost
>Something weakened/burned through my eyelid membrane and then my lens caught on the vein, causing it to open and make my eye bleed

And that, gulls, is how I found out I am allergic to eyelash adhesive.

Tl;dr - Always read the label unless you want to look (and feel) fucking brutal.

If you're comfortable touching your eye and pulling your eyelid forward, you'll probably be fine. I've used lenses for years and struggled a little bit when first getting them, but with practice it's a no brainer now. The main hurtle is you have to touch your eye a lot more than you normally would, which I know freaks some people out. It probably also helps that I can widen my eyes a lot - people with narrower asian-like eyes will probably have a lot more trouble.

You sound like a great guy. Accidents happen, especially when you're exhausted and your contacts are so comfortable you can't feel them. I've been wearing lenses 15+ years, and every once in a blue moon I'll leave my regular contacts in because I straight up forgot they were in my eyes. That being said, people new to contacts should probably leave themselves a reminder or something.

This happened to me with regular contacts but I thought I might share
I used to wear contacts daily (I have like -2.5 I think so I can't see anything without contacts/glasses)
Never had any problem until one night while I was taking them out, just as I got the contact out, it felt like someone stabbed a needle in my eye
I couldn't even keep my eye open
The rest of the evening I was lying in bed with closed eyes, careful not to "look" anywhere (even friction from the eyelid hurt like hell)
I couldn't even cry
The day after I was perfectly fine
My mom had a theory that I'd gotten a small cut on the eye in some way that the contact was holding together, so when I took it out, the cut opened up
I didn't dare to wear contacts for like a year afterwards

Also, not a story but, I want to get black sclera lenses sooo bad (for some cosplays and just to look major spooky) but since I need prescription ones (otherwise I'd have to wear glasses over it, kinda ruins the whole look) it would cost me like $100 per contact

there are companies like pinky paradise who will sell scleras in only a few sizes providing only bc measurement. Not on topic, but no, you shouldn't have to make yourself miserable to appease a friend, especially if she's angry and offended that you might consider doing something she doesn't want.

If you want to be a good friend and have the means, you could let her sleep in your room (They literally don't even check this, there are often rooms with like 12 people staying in them).

If you're a really good friend and have the means, you can even offer to help pay for her room.

Either way, explain to her why you want to book a hotel, how it has nothing to do with being a couple or anything like that.

Then, at the con, point her towards the speed dating thing and give her a swift kick in the ass.

if you mean "toric" Pinky Paradise has a section of toric lenses that are only marginally more expensive than regular ones. the selection is smaller and there are few to no customer pics, though.

No its not okay to do. That person was an idiot. If you dont want to shell out money for the right contacts you shouldnt wear contacts. You only have 1 pair of eyes your your entire life. Dont jepordize them for cosplay/lolita. If anything just get plano contact lenses in what ever color you want, and then wear your glasses then when someone asks for a picture just take off you glasses and look in their general direction. I mean you will eventually grow out of cosplay/lolita/jfashion or change substyles. Im just saying fashion chnages hobbies chnage but you cant fucking change your eyeballs once you go blind.

Seconding this, good advice
even if you will be into cosplay a major part of your life, cosplay is about having fun after all.
Just wear regular contacts so you can see or from time to time, spend a little extra on a pair of contacts

Colored toric lenses will cost you about $40-60 a PAIR, so if you only need one lens then it should be even cheaper. Very few places sell only one lens but there have been one or two mentioned before. The limitations are that they don't come in as many designs and colors but if they have it in the toric then they should have the same version in normal lenses so you can get one lens in the same design non-toric for your other eye to reduce costs.

Do not layer your contacts.

I've layered colored contacts over my prescription contacts before. It was way back when prescription colored contacts were super expensive and hard to get ahold of, and my prescription is -5.0 so I need prescription lenses to function. Still, it was really uncomfortable and I could only manage it for an hour or two. I came out of it unscathed, but I definitely don't recommend it.

A few years ago while at a gathering outside, the group was moving through these thin stick like weeds (kind of like cat tails but without the poof). I was able to move them before stepping forward except for one stray one that I didn't see that poked me right in the eye. Next I knew I couldn't see (think Velma without glasses). Luckily the weed hit the contact, not my cornea, and just slide it to the side just enough that I thought it was not in my eye.
Never again taking the short way around.

I thought we were all in agreement to stop recommending Pinky Paradise? We've had several issues reported, from shipping and costumer service to quality of products sold.

HoneyColor also has a toric section and it might be safer to buy from.

I tried to tell her to get 0.00 circle lenses and just take off her glasses for photos but she insisted glasses would mean no one would want a photo of her. So instead she layered them. Eugh

Since when? I don't think I've heard any major complaints about them. I actually thought Honey Color was the one that had quality/shipping time issues.

I've heard mixed reviews about pp as well but frankly, like you said, honeycolor is the one I had trouble with. They sent me two different brands of contacts in the same color, and ignored my emails about it. PP hasn't given me any trouble beyond taking a week to ship an order

i keep hearing horror stories about toric lenses not actually sitting right, that they shift uncomfortably and can be even worse than nontoric. for astigmatic seagulls, have you found this to be the case or no?

some idiot didn't clean her contacts before putting them in, blamed it on PP, and now people "boycott" them because of it.
the majority of contact lense horror stories start with people not taking care of their fucking lenses.

Soft, I remember I got them from a UK site called youknowit since a friend reccommended it to me. They were just normal sized lenses and not circle lenses.

I'm honestly not sure why they split but I remember it felt like a little something got in my eye at first and then I just couldn't even open it. When I ran to the bathroom I saw it had split and it scared the ever living fuck out of me.

Fell asleep with normal contacts in one night. had done it once in a while before, nbd. woke up to immense pain but went out to lunch with friends anyway, i told them my eyes hurt and they said i was being a baby. I drive home and realize I'm having a hard time seeing and have to squint a lot. Cue ultra light sensitivity and extreme pain and redness that lasts for days and haha so bad that I can't even drive to a doctor and all of my friends were out of town. Finally work up the courage to drive to the walk in clinic at a nearby drug store and surprise, they decided to close early. Sat in my car and cried.Post on facebook asking for a ride and of course the creepy guy who wanted to date me was the only one who offered, but beggars can't be choosers. I eventually made it to a doctor and had to put in eyedrops for weeks, but it gets better at least. I am a happy glasses wearer now.

I had problems with Pinky Paradise - I waited almost 6 months for shipping in a pair of lenses and didn't reply to any e-mails. By the time the lenses arrived, I was completely surprised, I had already forgotten about it. The expiration dates, naturally, were quite close by then.
