Haven't been on /cgl/ for a week, curious as to who "you-know-who" is.

I'm getting excited for Manchester, first time i'll have been to it. Only MCM i've been to was London last year. Still trying to decide which cosplays to bring with me, thinking something basic because I can't be bothered with the effort of bring a huge case for a big costume.

Go to Rebecca Black Tech and find the brit threads that have gone before they could have aged or been knocked off the board. They all mention one person. As soon as her name is mentioned she has the thread removed. Pretty sure she has some police notice or something. I don't blame her but I wish the janitors would prune the threads instead of deleting everything.

Lots of people who attempted to enter Kita's omake have found out that they won't be getting in at all. It turns out that the convention deleted all the entries made in January and asked on a Facebook post to resubmit entries. A bunch of thirsty weebs jumped on the chance to enter and apparently it ran out of space. Not sure why Kita didn't send emails to the original entrants to give them first refusal of entering though.
The organisation of that con continues to be abysmal at best.

Not as many people but it's smaller venue so the crowding in the dealers hall is pretty shit. It's not too bad IMO if you get early entry tix because you can buy whatever you want for the first hour before it gets really crowded in the dealers hall and then spend the rest of the day with other people/go to meetups etc.

Outside is okay and in the quieter areas inside. Better to avoid that general area if you don't care for buying merch.

Toko is basically what you make of it, as pretty much every UK con seems to be these days. At £40 I can have a great time with very little expectations in the way of organised events, it just starts taking the piss when you're paying £120 or so for your ticket and hotel and there's fuck all to do (cheers MCM). The water fights aren't everyone's cup of tea but they're fun if you're into that sort of thing, and there's a good crowd for 3DS gaming. I think Toko would be like 30% better (and more like an anime event) if they brought the anime tent back, it was great in 2012.

I'm excited to see what Aya manage to do with the Warwick location. They did the best job they could with the Britannia Hotel, and got good reviews, so I have high hopes for their bigger event next year.

Unless you are in their circlejerk, which i presume you're not because you need to ask, then you have to wait unless you are "cosfamous" which they want to film you for hits on their youtube, you will be in the group of lucky if you get filmed, next you get filtered again if you make the cut. While big conventions are a problem, everyone knows the cameraman is flighty. If he says he will shoot with you what he means is "wait while I shoot everyone else" my friend was a daredevil Cosplayer and the guy told him to wait and not leave. This went on like 2 hours before the camera man very grudgenly filmed him. We spoke to the editor I think? Super nice guy! He spoke to us later and apologised, he didn't seem surprised though.

We shot with some kid and his dad however and they filmed us right away, does anyone know who they might be?

I've been in a sneaky zebra vid for a fraction of a second. In amateur vids I've had more than a few. And they've cut me into other vids. They're also able to take the time to hang out cause they're not swamped. They're also more willing to take time to direct you.

Maybe it's just me, but I swear Sneaky Zebra used to be 90% "the best of" the con, or generally a pretty good view of the con and the best costumes there, and then like 10% their friends, and now it's 90% them dicking about with their mates and not actually showcasing the con/cosplay. Hi CGL, Chameleon here.

I just wanted to clear up a few things instead of leaving idle speculation to run rampant.

Firstly, the competition I won was a small regional qualifier for the main LFCC competition. I was only there to spend time with friends and had not planned to enter - I was persuaded to do so an hour before the competition. I am stoked that it all went down so well, but I have a lot of work to do before I'm ready to compete in the real thing.

Secondly, although I am flattered, I have never claimed to be "the best" anything. I made my Daenerys dress to the best of my ability at the time, and I am proud of the work I put into it, but it is not perfect, and there are a thousand Dany cosplayers out there doing amazing work. I am honoured to share such an exceptional character with so many excellent cosplayers, and have made some good friends through mutual love of the Mother of Dragons.

Thirdly, I know I'm not pretty, and that my figure isn't anything special. I do my best to work with what I have, because I honestly love cosplaying. I like to think that cosplayers can appreciate a well-made costume, and not just the attractiveness of the person wearing it, although it can be disheartening to know that no matter how much work you put in to your costume, there will always be those that dismiss you on appearance alone.

In any case, thanks to all those who have been so incredibly welcoming to me since I joined the community over here. It's so much bigger than the one at home, I've really enjoyed meeting so many wonderful people, and I'm very much looking forward to being more involved in the future. :)

Yes, the bodice is definitely on the tight side. Unfortunately that is something I've learned in making it - when you cover a dress with embroidery, it shrinks considerably. Sadly there is nothing I can do about it - there's 500 hours worth of embroidery work in that dress. Now that I have a permanent place of residence I'm aiming to be a little more careful with my diet and find time to visit the gym on a regular basis, which will hopefully help.

Oh, goodness, I haven't seen anything like that. Obviously I'm touched that my friends feel that way, but they seem to have a tendency towards hyperbole. I will ask them to take a little more care when choosing their words.

Thanks! I'll be competing with that dress on the Sunday of LFCC, the 19th of July. I completely agree about the skit - I hadn't entered anything with the dress because I didn't want to until I had a proper skit written and rehearsed. Chalk it up to peer pressure, I guess. I will be working on it for LFCC.

There were indeed some great costumes there, and some lovely people. Unfortunately I didn't get to see most of the performances as I was backstage.

I know a few other GoT cosplayers who do the same, as even for characters that don't wear makeup, you still need it. A rose pink matte lipstick would also help.

Thanks for noticing that :) I had just happened to bring Canary with me and was told about the group, but was not told that it was such a large group with no doubles. I know how frustrating it can be when doubles show up to an organised group, so I was very careful to stay out of all the group shots. I was happy to meet some new people, but the situation was awkward and I left as soon as I found some people I knew.

As for the GoT group, I do not claim to speak on behalf of the group as a whole. For my part, although I understand the intent behind the rules and am certain that it was not malicious in any way, I am uncomfortable with what was originally written, and with the way the whole situation has been handled. However, I can assure you that as far as I have seen the whole group has been exceptionally welcoming and encouraging to all cosplayers unless in the middle of specific preplanned group shoots. It seems to me that it has all been blown rather spectacularly out of proportion on both sides.

I liked the group at first glance then I realised it was invite only and unlike. The whole group is average looking and costumes are pretty crap to other Game of Thrones cosplayers in the UK.
It's the whole 'we're the best' attitude that made me laugh.

Being selective about who joins is why the group is so highly regarded. All are considered but only those who can add to the group are accepted. this same approach is taken by all of the best Cosplay groups.

I'm not entirely sure where all this about the group's "attitude" is coming from. That has not been my experience at all. It is not invite-only by any means - I had to approach them about joining, although of course many of the members were good friends, because that's really how groups like that get started. Their costumes are not, as it has been so charitably phrased, crap, most do aim for the highest quality of which they are capable both in skill and financially, but they are not by any means perfect and nor do they claim them to be. In terms of people not being "accepted", it's more that they are a close-knit group that gets on very well together, and they want to be sure that new members have personalities and goals that align with theirs. The group was also originally started with the aim of having a full complement of characters and no doubles. It's not a new concept - many of the Star Wars legions for example have the same policy. They aren't about to kick their friends out of the group for someone new, even someone with a better costume. This doesn't mean that they won't meet and shoot with other cosplayers; quite the contrary, they have happily done so at every event they have attended. But they want to be clear that when they have a pre-booked shoot, they want to avoid having doubles in group shots, even existing members of the group that decide to change characters. They are only so definite on that because it has been an issue in the past with doubles crashing group shots, so they want their position to be clear from the outset. This is literally the only time they will not shoot with anyone that asks.

I hope it can be understood that the "rules" were not a reflection of the attitude of the group as a whole, nor even an accurate reflection of their author, who hadn't really thought them through when posting. The committee changed and now it's an unorganised mess. The opening ceremony last year started with a 30 minute epidode of that cringey FATE show. Closing ceremony started with a surprise second charity auction that over ran by 2 hours and delayed everything after.

The guests were shit apart from Ellen McClain and John Patrick Lowrie. They had some chaphop asshole and a bunch of stuck up cosplayers. This one Italian cosplay guest got wasted and started mouthing off about how he hates how it's frowned upon that he can't beat women to random people around the con. There was a lack of panels and those that did run were poorly organized. A lot of the people didn't have badges so they'd go round pulling them off other people so they could get into parties.

When I'm saying about UK togs, I don't just mean convention pictures. UK togs also do planned shoots in locations. They spend more than an hour doing a shoot and do a lot of post editing. Some of them are also professional photographers. Fair enough they 'may' (some do get paid) not be paid for it but it's nothing like people that can throw money at making a cosplay compared to people that can't. So it's something to do with the judges, Eevee to be precise? If thats it then yeah, kind of expecting it to tbh. I'm UK-based and I'm trying to get more photography experience under my wing. I've really improved in the year since I've started, and I'm buzzing with ideas on things to do.
I've had a look around a few abandoned hotels where I live which are structurally sound and absolutely beautiful inside, despite their decay. I'd love to get some cosplayers in for some interesting shoots.

Whilst cosplayers are willing to shoot at cons, it's harder to get people to come outside of those times, unless you're in London. Especially if you're not e-famous.

It may be just coincidence, theres only so many poses (specially if its the characters signature pose anyway). for example, character has a gun, yep, gonna have the gun pointing to the camera. It's been done loads as a standard pose by everyone, doesn't mean they have copied, doesn't mean they are wrong to do that pose. How do you know theres not someone already done what ever the image you're talking about has already, bet they have in a different form? Not to mention the fact, like you said, same character, alot of cosplayers when asked to pose they do the same pose for every tog, so all the togs end up with the same pose and if they take that into edit than already theres debat if they have "copied" sound so.

Lighting, if it's in studio and not shooped, single light, two lights second with gel, 3 light setup (if its one of them then noone has copied you). As these are pretty standard across the board for studio lighting.

Shooped, radial blur, colour gradients, side, above. Colour tinted, high contrast etc

If the image you are talking about is anything from above then yours is not original either and these are just some example.

What i'm saying is, im not disagreeing with you or anything. Like above post, nothing is really original concept, many would like to think they are but trust me you're no different (if your a cosplayer) nor your photographer. It's been done by someone in some variation and everyone who thinks they're original is very mistaken. True the other cosplayer/photographer may truly copying you, but theres not much you can do, once it's published it's going to get copied in one form or another, intentionally or not.

Everyone praises Ben for doing underwater photography and believe hes like the first to do it or something, but nope, togs have been doing that for years, even cosplay togs way before him. You can always tell when someone is copying another photographers styles. Their style change all the time, not like a gradually over the course, but from one event to another it's competely different.

Went through his photo album and theres like 7-8 different styles, all no doubt copied from other togs just like his Bellatrix one, just hes not been called out yet. Example look at his Loki after dark, its blatantly copied from Lucas. He seems to copy whatever the flavour of the month is, hence why his photos all look so different from each set.

If the photo were taken on the same day, event, same pose then yes, that could happen as above mentioned, some cosplayers do the same pose for all the photographers, so they would end up with same pose, but i'm pretty sure Lauras photo was done years ahead of Kyles one.

Laura is well known to love starting shit, and the latest thing was sharing a screenshot of the GOT group 'rules' that Georgia made without telling anyone in the group, which is what kicked off all that drama. The funny thing that whoever has this vendetta forgets, is when I have an issue with someone, I tell them with my name, directly to them. I don't need to come on here and do it in secret. I've always done it that and always been open enough not to feel the need to delete or edit the things I say because I stick by them.

Yesterday I was made aware of a photo taken by Kyle of shades on that closely matches one of my own from many years ago. The photo in question was the result of some hard work by the photographer strawdoll and her patience with timing. The photo was taken of a bad costume I made to go to a film premier, something I have never hidden and is mentioned on the original deviation. I like many cosplayers have made bad costumes when younger, it seems to me comparing the quality of 2 people across 4 years is petty but sure if it makes you feel better. My cosplay was not very good.

However the photo was. Say what you like but the photographer did an amazing job with an inexperienced cosplayer and her work deserves credit.

About a year ago, Kyle and many other togs in the scene had a public go at the cosplayer jazzhands about her not crediting an instagram post. Kyle made is very clear he felt not crediting was the lowest scum thing you could do at the time, so when I saw him copying the photo of another photopgraher without credit, i said something about it. So did Lady Noctis. Kyle amended the post to show credit and messaged me about it privately where he confirmed his intention was to copy my photo.

A lot of cosplayers become photographers because we have a small tog scene here. They're fitting in learning photography between making their costumes and learning new costume techniques, and all this alongside full time jobs.

There aren't that many togs in the scene who are photographers in their professional life. So if you're in, say, Socal, of course you're going to be ahead. It's a different cosplay culture here.

Now Georgia. I've never met the girl. When a few weeks back i noticed the GOT group posting in every facebook group, i went to look at them and was shocked at the rules. I took a screenshot and posted it to my personal account. Had I wanted to start shit i coulda have posted it publicly, to my page, or to any of the groups they had been posting in. Which I didn't. I also at no point mentioned Georgia as the perpetrator and in fact just said that the group needs to have a discussion about how best they want to present themselves. I've attached a screenshot since no one seems to be aware of that. At no point have I made any attacks at her and infact her own group leader was the one to throw her under the bus and tell everyone that only she wrote it and no one else took responsibility for it. Just saying.

Do I hate this girl? Of course not, I've never met her or had any interactions with her, she runs in a different friendship circle to myself so i've got no reason to be bothered by her. I have been told she might feel differently about me however thats heresy so i'm not really bothered by it.

Also for dear vendetta, the horns where commissioned, something I've credited many times, its quite common for people to do you realise?
