Would it be weird to make a slightly cutesier version of a cosplay if it deviated from canon?

>> No.8359353

I posted in the wig thread as well, but no reply as of yet.

I had read about the method of soaking a synthetic wig in fabric softener to take some shine away, and had attempted it with a somewhat shiny wig.

But, after drying, the wig is sticky and feels like it has a residue over it, as well as being somewhat stringy. I tried running it under some water, and letting it soak for a minute or two before letting it sit out to dry again, but nothing has changed.

What do, anons?

Does anyone know of any safe ebay sellers that are good for color accuracy?
I'm looking for a deep red wig with 2 clip on extensions, either just deep dark red or a brownish red will work as well.
Picture is an example of what I need, length doesn't matter much but the longer the better since I can use the extra hair to add volume.

I'm considering cosplaying as Vergil from DMC3. Potentially without the coat, if I can find somewhere that only sells his black shirt or figure out how to make it myself.
This is the most accurate costume of him I can find anywhere, but it's pretty pricy, all things considered.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Devil-May-Cry-III-Vergil-Vergil-Cosplay-Costume-/171790203183

Is it worth it? I don't have all that much experience with this, only bought one costume before this one and it was a third of the price. (Shuuya Kano from Kagerou Project, if you're wondering)

>> No.8359420

>>8359391
Actually, I'm trying to make it a little more frumpy!

Well, not exactly. I did ask this in the Me! Me! Me! thread right before it died, but I'm thinking of making a sort of "innocent" version of Meme.

>high-cut babydoll dress w/ lower hem
>shortened socks and maybe gloves
>frilly hem
>flat shoes

It sounds interesting, but I don't want to make something that turns out looking awkward.

You could maybe find a red morph suit for a child? if you know how to sew/cut you could cut out the eyes, and sew in the black parts etc, then get some cheap elbow and knee pads from a store, the ones for skating and stuff. Chuck in some plastic swords/guns and i think it'll be good. I know a store in my town has full size deadpool style morph suits, you could be able to get a childs? but if not, just a smaller read morph suit.

If you don't wanna sew that, you're going to have to commission it. I see no way around that if you want it to look good.

It looks like the shirt and shorts are separate; they just have colors that blend in with one another. If you do want to make it a one piece garment, you can put a long zipper on the shirt part then step into the shorts.

>> No.8361358

>>8361341
If you're wearig a corset underneath, you're definitley going to have to cover it with something. I wouldn't recommend one, because it might just enhance your bust and hips more, which Madoka does not have. I would bone the bodice and put in a heavy zipper to help cinch yourself in, and wear shapewear over the stomach and legs, in addition to binding to get a flat chest. Basically try to make yourself look like a rectangle with slight curves, because Madoka is loli af.

Currently working on Wonderful Rush Honoka, need a bit of advice for the skirt.

Is that the fabric side or interfacing side? If the wrinkles aren't visible from the fabric side, then carry on, but iron on the interfacing before sewing pieces together in the future.
If that's the fabric side, you'll need to start over afaik. The fusible is now glued to the fabric.

I was about to say that the blue is shading as well but then it's apparent that you're correct upon closer inspection (the shading for the white is more of a gray).
Yes, you'll need to sew blue inner pleats between the white pieces before ironing the pleats in and putting on the zipper + waistband. It's the exact same method as if the entire skirt is white, but cut at where it transitions between blue/white and add seam allowances.

Thanks for all the suggestions/advice! The only thing I'm not sure of is the binding. Because of my shape/size I get that awful boob shelf-loaf where nothing properly flattens, though I don't know if that's because my binder could do with being a size smaller? Everything sort of migrates into the middle despite my attempts to move them outwards to the sides...

Despite it contradicting Madoka's bodytype I'm not sure if well-supported boobs would just look nicer and 'cleaner' than awkwardly not-quite-binded ones.

Thoughts?

A few other notes about that suit (I didn't buy it, but I've seen it on a number of people at cons this spring/summer):

In person, the "V" of white sits very low on people's chests and isn't super flattering. Nothing you can really do about that, but just wanted to give you a heads up.

The mask is pretty meh, and it looks terrible if you don't get a face plate. Go look up hendoart for a really awesome mask and face plate.

http://www.therpf.com/showthread.php?t=235000

This suit doesn't come with the blue shoes, so you'll have to do something about that. I've seen lots of people who do ballet flats or canvas shoes like toms, although the concept art calls for the soles of Chuck Taylor shoes. Look up Spider-man shoe tutorials for the best way to attach the shoes to the suit.

Best of luck! Gwen is so delightful.

I plan on starting a Cyan SB69 cosplay, but I'm having trouble deciding on if I should do her outfit in navy blue or black.

In the anime its obvious she is more of a blue, so I would like to do navy but I have no idea where I should look for her thigh highs and shoes. If anyone could point me in a direction it would be really appreciated! (I always run into this problem with thigh highs goddamn LMAO but I'm not really up for making my own thigh highs)

I'm also not sure if just having my outfit navy blue and just having black shoes+thigh highs would work. Wah. So yeah just wanted some opinions..

tl;dr - Should I go for blue or black.. or a mix of both?

I'm thinking of using Epic Cosplay's Helios or Aura wig in caramel blonde but I'd really appreciate suggestions. I prefer Epic Cosplay most because I can go to the store location and see the colors in person. I'm not sure which length is better for this mullet.

So I'm dressing as The Pain from Metal Gear Solid 3. I have everything together so the costume is just about done. However, the vest I have is pure yellow. How would I go about getting the black/grey stripes onto the vest? I've been reading the /cgl/ sticky links and it seems like a type of paint would be the way to go. Any specific type or brand of paint that would work best?

Here's the Amazon link of the vest in case there's any info on there that would help.

Hi there /cgl/. I'm doing a cosplay which requires these shoes. Is there a way to change these so that they're more comfortable or am I stuck doing the whole "I'll switch shoes whenever someone wants a picture" deal? Like are there cushions I could put in or maybe even carve some sort of foot-shaped-groove in them? I want to be able to just wear one pair the whole time because it feels more genuine. However, after hours of walking around I'm sure it would be understandable to throw your pride out the window just so your feet will stop hurting.

Also I guess I got the cheap kind (thank you ebay) and these are made of plywood or something. They chip very easily. What can I put around the edges and bottoms to make it so it doesn't chip? I was thinking getting sticky velcro and putting the fuzzy side on the bottom so it would help at not be too noticeable. They also slip on hard floor a bit, despite the rubber bottoms. Is there any way to make it less dangerous?

Thank you in advance.

tl;dr
How can these shoes be more comfortable and what can I put on them so they won't chip or slip on the floor?

So after looking through recent con photos, I've decided that my posing is absolutely terrible.

I do take people's advice when they say to practice your poses beforehand in front of a mirror, but when I actually do those poses for a camera, it just doesn't translate to what I wanted in the first place. I end up looking awkward.

My biggest problem of all is my face. It somehow always ends up looking like a chub monster with 50 chins whenever someone takes a picture of me, even more so than when I take a picture of myself or even when I look in the mirror. Even when I do try contouring my face, the problem still happens.

What should I do, gulls? Should I get a friend to help me out with my newfag posing?

Top appears to be stretchy knit cardigan-like. You might have some luck modding a pink cardigan base + sew on the sailor collar and sleeve cuffs.
>dye the bottom stripe
That's unlikely to work the way you want.
You'll be better off sewing/attaching the trim to the hem of the skirt.

>>8371058
Run the fabric through a quick and light black/gray dye bath and it'll be perfect in color. I bought the exact fabric for my Homura cosplay and it's not gray enough. That said, it's still Jo-Ann's cheap & thin broadcloth so line the skirt and iron lightweight interfacing to the collar pieces to add structure.

Look at your source material for poses your character commonly does. Practice them in front of a mirror. If you have cosplay friends, get them to look at your poses, or take pictures of you. You think you look weird in pictures because you're used to looking at yourself in a mirror, so have your friend honestly critique any photos you have. Its not helpful if they just say, "You look fine!" Ask specific questions if specific things are bugging you. Practice until the poses feel natural and you don't have to think about them. Look at regular portrait posing guides and see how the models position their bodies, heads, etc.

Resposting from the wig thread:

Any idea on how to make the upper part of this wig?

I was thinking about bending foam to get the shape and then cover that with hair, what do you guys think?

Thank you! I was also wondering how you did Homura's black undershirt's collar since it's a fusion of shirt collar and a sailor collar. Did you follow this pattern? I am really confused as to what is going on for it.

Trying to find someone to do a commission, specifically a pretty simple super hero suit.

Going to ask a question regarding photos:
Is it OK to ask for the unedited photos?

Photog sent me 3 ( extremely late) pictures and I look like shit in them. I hate the pose i was in ( he suggested it). They were my least favourites but I remember some I loved. I would like to see those and edit them myself (I don't edit wonky, I've been doing it for years) so I could post them to my social media.

Any chance you can find it on Ebay or Etsy or is it an uncommon super hero?

I like working with patching plaster to make props. It's easy to work with and sands nicely, but the only problem I have is that it's kinda fragile and any 'nick' might make some of it chip.
My question is: is there anything I can mix with it or coat it in to make it more durable?
Will a coating of geso + glue work or is there something else I can do?

>> No.8376328

how would you gulls go about making a very large able to be carried arm?

I was thinking stacking rigid insulation foam and carving, but for something that needs to be taller than a person it sounds like that could get pricey.

look up bondo/rondo tutorials.
Bondo is a fiberglass putty-ish material that's great for spot treating and creating hard shells. It's marketed/sold as a auto body filler but cosplayers and prop makers have been using this stuff for ages.

Rondo is just the Bondo brand resin mixed with Bondo to create a more fluid material typically for slush casting.

Granted this stuff is absolutely toxic, so you need to do it somewhere very well ventilated and need the proper clothes and respirators to protect yourself at every single step you work with this stuff.

>> No.8376480

The simpler green turtle neck one, from Immortal Iron Fist. Not the popped collar.

Already have the mask and boots.

Undecided on the muscle shadow. I suppose it would look better with them. Not sure how much that would hike the price.

Don't sweat it. Let me warn you though, it's got a kind of an unforgiving learning curve.

and I really can't stress enough. Fiberglass ain't nothing to fuck with. Wear a proper respirator. Cover yourself from head to toe. Wear a proper respirator. And most importantly wear a proper respirator.

The uniforms are left in the store at the end of the shift and they are meticulously tracked. You can try your luck on various Japanese resell sites (there are a ton). I usually see them go for about 2000 yen.

I didn't follow that picture. I took a regular blouse pattern with a standing collar and made the collar pattern piece a bit straighter, then added sailor collar-like part to the pattern. You can turn the collar piece into two parts for ease of modifying patterns if you want.

So, I wanted to make a joke cosplay
I want to be a brony/fedora/ledditor
Other than the obvious fedora I was thinking of carrying cheetos and mountain dew. A brony t-shirt, some autistic looking walmart sneakers....

I was thinking of making some pins? Gotta look into how hard they are to make though.

You're beautiful.

If you have no sewing experience or convention connections you can always go to a seamstress/tailor and get it done. It'll be a bit pricey admittedly, but it'll be good quality. Another option is to get a bodysuit dye-sublimation printed like Spiderman/Deadpool cosplayers do, and that already comes with the shadows on it. Dye-subs, however, are just print files and you'll need to match your measurements to the fabric patterns once you find a place to print them. You could probably do the best of both worlds and print out the sub dye and have a seamstresss sew it together for you.

But that's the complicated way. The easy way would be to find a tight fitting dark green turtleneck/bodysuit top/compression shirt online or thrifting, or a white one to dye the right shade and add the symbol onto with a freezer paper stencil.

There's lots of ways to tackle it.

It seems really simple but I can't figure out her hair bow. My material is vinyl, so maybe that means it will never look right, but does anyone have any good tube-pointed(?) hair bow tutorials, or any idea on how I can do her bow?

Also the inside of the black material I have has a texture so I can't paint it.

Please and thank you~

Not sure if the help thread is the right place to post--please direct me elsewhere if there's a more appropriate place. (going to post this in the new help thread too for visibility)

I'm thinking about commissioning a Maiden in Black (pic related) costume since my sewing skills are nonexistent. I've got a couple construction-related ideas. Where do I look for someone to commission?
