2-1$ punch balloons from dollar store
1-floral foam cone\
thick yellow/gold rope and tassel
paper mache and plaster and paint

Blew up both balloons, one bigger than the other, taped them together tight, carved cone to form spout, covered everything in mache and plaster, sand till smooth as shit, paint. Add rope around middle. (I also stuck some sheer purple fabric into the tip to look like mist.)

He got some kind of hookup with staff and they made us go on together so he could propose. I mean, it's like really hard to say, "I'll think about it...." when you're on stage in front of hundreds of people. I ended up saying "yes", but extra awkwardness ensued because I was wearing gloves and they were difficult to get off to put the ring on.

idunno. I mean, I've seen people become bridezillas over throwing the perfect wedding like it's the whole point of their entire existence, and it just seems somewhat misguided. It feels like we've all been brainwased into handing money over to wedding planners, dressmakers, hotels, caterers and the like because somehow the wedding becomes the really important thing.

Yet it's not really the wedding that's important. It's the part after, when the two people have to live with each other and try to build a family that's the really important stuff, so why piss away money throwing some grand wedding ceremony when you could use that money for a honeymoon, downpayment on a house, a car -- some other things you'll actually get some use out of.

I mean, I'm not really sure that a cosplay potluck is the way to go, I personally would not do an open invite for strangers to come to my wedding. But I think a "traditional wedding" is kind of brainwashed. I can appreciate if a couple wants to keep things cheap and simple instead.

My cousin had a gaming themed wedding, but the ceremony was really nice and classic with only a few pop culture references, while the reception was laid back with lots of board games and video games and interactive games about the bride and groom. They met in an online game and my cousin is doing some sociology and the internet phd degree or something so it made sense. In other words they got to incorporate nerdom without calling it a freaking "nerdfighter" wedding

I agree that a pot luck open invite wouldn't have been my choice, But I can understand why someone would do it. I got married in the past year and I'm happy to be married but that whole planning part sucked ass. It was nice to think about having a classy wedding with a custom cake, embossed invitations, and a nice pasta dinner. Then you see how just to get enough subway sandwiches for 50 people is going to cost $600, bottom of the barel photographers start at $1500, a basic dance hall is 2k with no chairs or tables, and a basic bouquet is $150-300. All of that shit adds up and I can easily understand how the average wedding is $10k in the US.

We DIYd a lot of our backyard wedding, but since I didn't have a wedding planner and a lot of the stuff was hard to coordinate the day of as the bride, a few things ended up being left out. You only have so much time and hands to do stuff. There are certainly trashy weddings (I hate camo/hunting weddings) but I'm much more sympathetic to brides now.

If there's anything I wish I could redo about my wedding was having someone be my day of coordinator.

A lot of people save years for weddings. They're luxuries, not necessities. I don't understand the big rush to get married if both people are committed, or at least not have a courtroom ceremony with an actual wedding later when they can afford it. Childish.

>> No.8380130

Last year some people got married at the con venue a day before Minami started. It was open invite and a bunch of cosplayers turned up.

Even more awkwardly, there was a wedding at Kitacon. the committee actually had special badges made for people who were invited and gave it it's own time slot in the events schedule. The two guests of honour were invited. If you want to get married at a con it's fine I guess, but it's so self centred to request those things unless you're literally gonna make it a free for all.

It's just so fucking cringey when you can barely even hear the announcement AND when you have this random announcer person broadcasting it to the room (as opposed to you doing it yourself?). It' just... such a lack of decorum for somethng that should probably be a pretty significant moment in life.

Not completely related, but I remember one YaoiCon where the hotel double-booked the convention and a wedding reception on the same day. The reception was in this central patio area and was literally surrounded by the rest of the convention (crossdressing girls in anime wigs and all).

Whenever I saw the people from the reception, they did not look pleased. No surprise.

It's not quite the same thing, but my cousin decided she wanted to have a Homestuck themed wedding last year. Everything was fine until her parents realized exactly what she had in mind, and they started overreacting wildly. Basically, they said they wouldn't pay for anything and would even try to make her pay back what they already had put down for things like a deposit on the location and other early expenses like that. It caused so much drama for our whole family with people taking sides and arguing about it non-stop. But eventually her parents calmed down and stopped being so unreasonable and everything worked out. They still sometimes act kind of surly about their daughter's 'ridiculous' wedding photos, but even that will fade away I think.

I find courtroom weddings very charming because everyone, in my opinion, shouldn't be seated for 1+hours listening to someone they don't know read shitty passages or droll on about nonsense. Also, for people who DONT know, you are NOT married at the wedding. You still have to sign papers after the actual ceremony. The same papers you go to the courthouse to sign. Most of the time they still make you go to the courthouse depending on your venue.

If I get married I would rather spend money on only the reception venue and make sure that is nice for everyone and then arrive there after the courthouse. I wouldn't spend money on walking down the isle and shit. Not worth it.

I did a wedding/honeymoon trip abroad and spent the same amount I would have locally for a ceremony and I tell you what, 10k traveling around the world is a lot more fun and money well spent than one night locally. Sign the papers at the courthouse, go on an amazing trip and experience each other, then come back and have a small, cheap party with your family. It's all a lot less painful.

If I ever got married, I'd like to do a nature wedding I think. Just have the damn ceremony and reception outside, and then everyone will relish in how lovely it is, in reality I just projecting my love for Mori and Zelda. It's not like any of my family will know what's up because I love muh Kokiri Forest. Plus my family is super normalfag and I have mastered the hidden powerlevel ages ago. As long as I wear some sort of veil they could care less if I got married in a church or not.

My husband took me to BTSSB NYC on the day it opened. They raffled off the chance to buy Scarlet Primavera Waltz as well as this. I didn't even win the raffle, really, but it was pretty obvious I was interested in the dress. Several winners passed it over and we ended up buying it. Otherwise these releases are made to order.

The 3edgy5me ~faerie~ wannabe in me wants to have a fantasy inspired wedding dress (e.g. no discernible historical silhouette, just a mish mash of anachronistic ~fantasy~ shit), but I'm finding even mainstream wedding dressmakers can cater to that cascading type of silhouette.

That's it for geek wedding though. I get so much embarrassment from even listening to FF songs with other people, so I probably won't shoehorn that in. That's just in general though - I hate sharing my tastes with other people because of how embarrassed I am to show any sort of power level, be it geek related or otherwise.

Im from California also, but I have to say that in some places that isn't true. Like near San Francisco. You can get 'married' in the traditional sense, but you can sign the papers before or after. Regardless it will take about a month most of the time to go through, so you can have the shindig, but you won't be married officially for a while. I have never heard of any place not letting you have a ceremony BEFORE signing papers though. That makes zero sense.

Courtroom ceremonies are perfectly fine, my parents had one and so have my partner and I. Not everyone is religious and if you have a courtroom ceremony that doesn't mean you can't have a separate event at a different venue. You say childish but your own reasoning is that of a child wanting to have her own big princess day and chatting shit about anyone who doesn't share the same sentiments.

Aw. I was thinking that of doing something like that if marriage was in my future. I love Nobuo, but I'm also a huge Hisaishi fan. How about trying it again by directly playing them music from Distant Worlds instead of actual game music, and making them listen to the tracks without letting them know it's FF music. You could probably throw some other actual (obscure) classical music in there just to throw them off and prove a point.

I might be prejudiced, but I think the music from the orchestra is arranged much nicer, whereas music from the game can sometimes have a sort of, how to say, like it repeats to particular beats and you can tell it was designed to be looped as game background music.

If they met the year before, that means the total time they been together would have been a year by the marriage. Which also means they planned the marriage months earlier, probably soon after the con depending on how on top of the things the con is for next year. It is not normal to plan to be wed by your first anniversary of meeting someone.

Most people do not get engaged months into a relationship.

and becoming a charcoal briquette isn't that beneficial for the earth. theres a company that will freeze you in nitrogen, turn you into a powder and then use your body as plant food. much better for the environment.

Or if you insisted on being cooked, a company turns ashes into artificial reefs. and since oceans provide 90% of the oxygen for the planet you're better off helping the ocean than the trees.
