OK, let's have some roommate nightmare stories!

A couple of Nom Cons ago sharing with a couple of people.
Dude called Hammy asks Lizard Lady what's in the bag. She takes out that doll of hers, he immediately snatches it from her and starts making racist remarks.

Screeches constantly and has no volume control. Comes in at 3am after being at the George with one of the other roomies. Loudly declares 'Oh my god, I was at the George and one of the taxi drivers said he'd give me a ride for a blow job!' Wakes everyone else up.

Get less than 8 hours sleep over the weekend due to his screeching. Me and Lizard Lady are contemplating murder, we don't say anything for fear of being booted from the room.

LL later tells me he's the reason she now always books a room herself and has the room in her name so she can chew out obnoxious roomies without getting kicked from the room.

Granted the room was only 30euro for 3 nights, but I'd rather pay more and have a more pleasant experience.

you know that video that was up for last years con? just imagine, instead of having the games in the hallway, they had them in a room with the board and card games. ps1, n64 and xbox 360. 10 hearthstone players in the back. and so on.

traders hall was same as last years otakucon, same room, but with some traders out in the hall where they had the games at otakucon.

there was one extra room for panels. didn't go to any panels myself, except the cosplay championships.
which, a furry won. and assuming they made the costume themselves was amazing, but still.

Other than that, didn't know/have any interest in the guest myself, as I either didn't know who they were or in the case of MasakoX, didn't care.

6-7/10 for my own personal enjoyment of it.

Nah it's fine if you report them to the front desk. Stayed in a hostel for a night with 6+ tall, buff Strayans in Slovenia, only female in the room, and came out with my innocence intact. They were actually great craic.

Another night in a hostel in Bratislava some retard tried to get close in the showers but was kicked out once I made enough of a fuss. They're actually quite careful with that kind of stuff, my only complaint is that the lockers can be rather flimsy.

The chairs at the PS1 were always there and there was like 12 tables with 4 chairs each, all tables weren't used and there was spare chairs in the hallway.

It was funded by Anime League and was supposed to be organised by them but it end up organised by 3 Otaku con members and a newly recruited team, hence the recruitment posts and 3 volunteers were taken in on the day, one of which was me. (Don't care if this gives me away.)

Anime League kicked everyone out of the emails. Paypal, Facebook and tried cancelling the event wanting to refund people because the owner free saiyan had got booted from Showmasters and all his crew jumped ship, he then was paranoid the Irish crew would take all the credit for the con he did no work on and that they would join Showmasters and try take down AL.

The Irish staff put the extra money towards off the AL deposits to run for one day, AL end up pocketing the Saturday online ticket sales when this was done, (bastards) it wasn't because of low ticket sales, but it's hard to tell anyone the real reason when you have to keep quiet as its in ALs name and they can cancel and you're locked out of every log in and there's promoted posts of 60 euro, mass emails etc

The only financial problem was the staff weren't gonna fund it to be a 2 day con and cover 15 tube TVs like AL had planned and risk not making it back on the day as AL kept reg money,

I could be biased but in my opinion it was a decent con compared to other cons in its bracket. (Eg. Cons with 300-400 people attendance)

I don't know what everyone's complaining about, the con was on from 10 am-11.30 pm. Over 13 hours long, had a trade hall, panels, gaming room with , Masakox, Ruth Redmond and Toxic tears. The 501st were walking around taking pictures with people, Cineworld were given away free stuff, cosplayers were being interviewed by multiple organisations, there was loads of photographers, they sent someone to Portugal to compete for Ireland in a cosplay competition. Anime DVDs, cinema tickets and other promotional goods were gave out for tournaments. There was a concert that night.

That's less than a euro an hour! There was loads who went to otakucon who also showed up to this because they felt it was worth the money.

But there really in the same bracket as Anime Dublin, Gas Con, Epic Con, Pokecon, Potterfest, Akacon and Brocon in its early years.

All the top tier cons are only on once a year, it's only normal people will attend the small cons in between the major ones.

Nobody would have went to ICC if Otaku Con was that bad, they seem to be improving, I say Khaos Con might be an alright filler con as its over a month and a half away from Eirtakon and 2 and a half months away from Nom.

There was only 3 Otaku Con crewing ICC as all their staff are 18-21 and they were all sitting leaving cert and college exams. The con was full of newly recruited people and the attendance was double Otaku Con. I agree that things weren't as controlled at ICC vs Otaku Con but the trade hall, events, attendance, the press they got to attend and the new layout was superior.

This is why I have high hopes for Khaos Con, If they transfer the better new recruits to that con and can keep things controlled like at Otaku Con but have the events, traders, press and space as ICC. They will really have things down.

My fucking hole ICC got 300-400 people. I was there. There was about 100 at total max. And i highly soubt anyone paided to get in. I know myself and 4 of my friends just walked in and no one batted an eye. We even walked in and out of the con a few times an no one stopped us. 300 people? The main room was the size of a living room, all the traders were sqwished together, no to meantion the traders in the hall. It would be impossible to fit more than 50 people in the whole con at any givin stage because of the size alone. It's so obvious it's nathan posting above, jesus he's turning into declan the second. They used the games room as a panel room for one of the only guests that showed up and the guest had to talk over the games, i only saw one staff member there the whole day and it was so stuffy for being so over packed with angry traders that everyone nearly passed out. I've been to big cons and i've been to little cons, and there was no way in gods sweet earth that there was 300-400 people there. If there was by some miricale,.id say only 2 people actually we dumb enough to pay.

Traders, guests, staff and press were over 100 alone. 30 tables at averagely 2 person per one, the Star Trek group had 5-6 behind one table alone and 4-5 for the 501st Garrison.

Then if you look at the games room, around 4-5 there was like 20-30 playing board games and 10 at hearthstone.

Then the halls were full of people, the panel room had a lot of people depending on the panel. Like the cosplay competition. The room was packed during that, it had 100 plus seats.

Then people showed up exclusively for the concert.

I was there too. First of all, If you are taking about attendance, you don't count staff and traders. They HAVE to be there. By that logic, Arcadecon and Nomcon should count hotel staff and guests in their attendance numbers.

Second, you had a panel room and a games room but panels planned for both rooms. If you can't see why that is a bad idea, don't run a con.

Third, Boasting that the halls were full isn't something to be proud of. The venue was tiny. Anime Dublin has more space. How those traders in the hallways didn't have anything damaged is beyond me.

And I think this sums up the main issue with ICC and Otakucon. The way they advertised themselves (weekend cons, international guests etc.) made it seem they were promising to be a BIG con in line with Eirtakon, Nom Con, Arcade Con, Akumakon etc. This may not have been their intention (I doubt it though) but that is what they were promising. Anime Dublin and the smaller gaming cons etc. don't try to be more than they are. They make it clear it's a one day, small scale event and the price and line-up reflects that. No one goes expecting the same scale of event that takes place in Croke Park or in the Ballsbridge hotel.

Problem is, people expected Otaku Con and ICC to be much larger scale and they failed to deliver and that's what the big issue is. Sure maybe as a small con it worked but that's not what they advertised, end of.

They were approached by Showmasters to help promote Belfast film and comic con, they needed crew for the Anime, Cosplay and Comic Book stage and Anime League were running that stage at their events up until Janurary or Feburary 2015.

Other that the utter lack of experience, another prob with ICC and Otakucon is their social media presence. Nathan should learn to keep his fucking head down and focus on running the con rather than shitposting on here or trying to defend himself on Facebook or bashing the people he works with on ask.fm. Just gives off a terribly unprofessional vibe. At least most of the directors of the other cons seem to have the sense not to start arguments in public. Seems to be a bad sign if a con director is frequently talked about online. Other than Otakucon/ICC and Arcadecon, I haven't a notion who any of the other con organisers are and that's a good sign imo.

I dunno, I feel like Eirta gets better every year. It certainly gets bigger anyway, with more events and a better venue. Surely you can't say the current Eirta is worse than it was 5 years ago? It was a small con back then but it's great that it's grown so big - they can afford better guests, venue, more people and all that. I dunno about the organisation side of things but if they're holding up in a venue like CP surely they ain't too awful.

The director can be hit and miss but this years one is decent. Still it's a dedicated committee that makes a good con. You need everyone doing their bit or other people have to pick up the slack which isnt fair and obviously affects the quality of the con.
