Wardrobe/self post encouraged.

Also mini survey:
What composes most your uniform outfits?
Where do you dress this way? (school, family events, church, etc)
Any reactions? Is uniform style considered strange(stands out) where you live?
Do you wear makeup with your outfits or do you want it to pass off as more realistic?
Do you think comms would work with this style? If so what do you imagine the meets would be like?

Was just thinking about starting a new seifuku thread today.

I like the colors of the skirt set in the OP pic.

I haven't worn uniform fashion since middle school. I cobbled together outfits with what I could find. I had a plaid skirt from a Wal-Mart store and another from a thrift store. I'd pair then with clip on ties and whatever cute blouses I could get ahold of. I lost the only surviving picture I had of myself dressed in the clothes, but I thought it was pretty cute even if it was cobbled together. I haven't actually worn the style in years. Now I'm 22 and I'm just getting back into it, I feel a bit too old but I still think it's cute. I planned on ordering my first new skirt from Bodyline because it's cheap and will let me test the waters but I haven't been able to decide what one I like. It seems like there plaid patterns are all really high contrast and I prefer something with a medium to low contrast. I wanted something in navy or black. Anyone got opinions on which of Bodyline's plaids are the cutest?

It's definitely considered strange. I live somewhere where every girl wears shortie shorts and crop and tank tops but a short skirt that's still longer than said shortie shorts will get you tons of attention, and it's never the good kind. Girls just don't wear skirts and dresses for casual wear here.

The last thread people were trying to find more casual looks and different ways to wear the style. I'll try to only post pictures of those if I can find any. Here's a cute gothic themed uniform, obviously not very realistic or casual but hella cute.

I like these plaids the most. The top 3 are a little more cutesy/ anime like while the bottom 2 look more realistic as uniforms. I think most skirts would look cute though if you pair them with a matching sweater. It also depends on how long it is.

>What composes most your uniform outfits?
Blouse, pleated skirt, cardi or v neck sweater, tights or thigh highs. I wear oxford heels, loafers or boots depending on the rest of the outfit. I do also have those sneakers that are converse knockoffs but I don't wear those as often.
>Where do you dress this way? (school, family events, church, etc)
School, errands, hanging out with friends, going out with my husband etc.
>Any reactions? Is uniform style considered strange(stands out) where you live?
The ladies at the grocery store loved the shit out of my black seifuku (it's just a cheap one from aliexpress but it's quite cute I think). I also got compliments on some outfits from classmates and my Japanese prof (I didn't dare wear a seifuku to that class though lol). I think it's at least a little bit unusual. Thigh high socks are still somewhat of a rarity, so I get a lot of stares that just gravitate towards my legs when I walk around campus. There's a handful of Catholic high schools in this city (I went to one as well) that have uniforms so I try not to have the same colours going on so I won't be mistaken for a student.
>Do you wear makeup with your outfits or do you want it to pass off as more realistic?
Just my everyday make-up.
>Do you think comms would work with this style? If so what do you imagine the meets would be like?
I don't see why not, if enough people are interested. I imagine the meets would be much like lolita meets our comm does: go to places, eat good food, hang out, chat about the fashion etc.

>>8341812
>Now I'm 22 and I'm just getting back into it, I feel a bit too old but I still think it's cute.
I think it's a very individual thing, but as long as you can put together an outfit that suits you, you shouldn't feel old. I'm 25 and fairly youthful looking, and I plan on wearing it as long as I don't end up up looking ridiculous like someone wearing a schoolgirl outfit on Halloween. I'll probably go for the more mature looks as I get older.

I really liked the red white and blue one, but wasn't sure if it was in good taste or not. Thanks! I might get that one or the black and white one, which isn't low contrast but it's simple and would match a lot of stuff I think. I like the choice of colors and patterns on the bottom two, but those aren't really the kind of colors I like to wear.

>>8341988
That's basically how I was trying to think about it, as long as I can wear the clothes without feeling stupid I might as well wear them while I get a chance to. Part of me wishes I wouldn't have lost my interest in the style through high school (high school was a weird time for me, lots of stuff was happening), I could have done the nanchatte uniform thing for school.

> What composes most your uniform outfits?
As of the moment plaid skirt and bow sets from Bodyline, thrifted peter pan collar blouses, some Liz Lisa V-neck cardigans in pink or white, and frilly knee-socks or thigh highs paired with SHOES168 in black from Bodyline.

> Where do you dress this way?
Pretty much anywhere I want to look cute and well-dressed but not go the whole nine yards with lolita.

> Any reactions? Is uniform style considered strange (stands out) where you live?
Yes, very. Last time I wore it a drunk homeless guy who lives in the park by my house kept trying to get handsy with me and aggressively harassing me to "admit" to being a sex worker, then tried to follow me home. Filed a report to the police and haven't been through there since.
We don't really have uniforms in school here so it's very clear that I'm just dressing that way for the hell of it, which leads to a lot of unfavorable assumptions.

> Do you wear makeup with your outfits or do you want it to pass off as more realistic?
I normally just do regular "natural" makeup with some winged eyeliner. I like the look of a toned down face with dark, bold eyeliner as the focal point generally.

> Do you think comms would work with this style? If so what do you imagine the meets would be like?
I think it would be a really cute idea! Maybe get bubble tea, do some purikura, hang out at arcades, goof around and take photos, or go places en-masse like how in Japan it's trendy to storm Disneyland all in matching uniforms. You have a lot more freedom than in lolita since you don't have to worry about dirtying your clothes or trying to maneuver around in layers so you have a lot more options.

Depends on your area. Catholic schools play into the stereotype for some reason, they usually go for tartan. One of the schools near me has a really cute striped blazer, reminds me of AP's british college set. The others all have really cute tartan skirt uniforms or at the very least nice colour schemes. My uniform was fucking black everything and then a red tie. Yawn.

I already posted detail shots of Bodyline's shoes299 in the main BL thread >>8330196 here, but I also happened to pick up a pair of these shoes from Target (as they were and still are on clearance).

Quality and comfort-wise, they're much better, and the inner sole on Target pair is padded throughout and softer; BL ones have only heel padding, none in the toe area. Height-wise the Target ones are a bit taller, so they might be too high for an "authentic" seifuku look. They're both the equivalent of a US 6, but the BL ones fit a little looser in both length and width, whereas the Target ones are just a little long length-wise.

At this point I might just sell off the BL shoes, since they seem so much more inferior in comparison now...

Link if anybody is interested (they're available in brown and deep red as well): http://www.target.com/p/women-s-bernadette-heeled-loafer/-/A-15443686

>What composes most your uniform outfits?
I have four collared shirts in black, white, red and navy. Skirt wise, I have a long black pleated skirt I made myself for the sukeban look and two plain knee length OL pleated skirts in gray and cream. I also have two sweater vests in black and yellow. And a plain black blazer. Thinking of taking the plunge and buying a sailor collared top as well as proper plaid skirts. The long skirt makes me feel incredibly badass though, but its a total bitch to iron. I wear normal socks with the long skirt and tights with the others. Knee socks gets a lot of unwanted attention, so I tend to avoid it.
>Where do you dress this way? (school, family events, church, etc)
My previous workplace was really relaxed so I wore it to work when I felt like it. Other than that, I wear it when I want to look cute but don't want to wear a petti.
>Any reactions? Is uniform style considered strange(stands out) where you live?
As I said before, knee socks usually get the most attention for some reason. I find I get the most positive attention with the sukeban style coord for some reason.
>Do you wear makeup with your outfits or do you want it to pass off as more realistic?
Eyebrows, simple eyeliner and maybe a naturalish lip. If my skin is clearish I'll put on bb cream but usually I don't.
>Do you think comms would work with this style? If so what do you imagine the meets would be like?
I went to a school uniform meet hosted by a fellow loli. We had lunch, sang karaoke and took purikura. It was fun though people kept on thinking we were a cosplay group for some reason. But it was just something to do together and most of the girls just threw together what they had, I don't think a comm would survive, at least not in my country.

It's Kansas City, I know at least one girl comes up from Wichita occasionally. There's also a few in Manhattan that come up.

As far as the Wichita comm goes, I am not sure exactly what happened, but there was a thread on here about a girl from Wichita scamming a bunch of people. I was in the facebook group for that comm at the time and the group disappeared not too long after that.

These aren't cheap and they probably fall into the bit fug category, but I can vouch that this company makes unbelievably comfortable walking shoes. They're so lightweight, and last for eveeerrrrrr. Sadly this is the only style they have right now that could even remotely pass in lolita, and it definitely wouldn't be for some 'wow' coord. check out the store list spreadsheet in the taobao general thread and scroll to the bottom of the cosplay/seifuku tab. those are the places I see most people (including myself, though my order has yet to come in) getting decent-quality seifuku from. you can get most of the standard plaid/solid skirts and basic blouses off aliexpress as well, for about $15 with free shipping, if you're looking to make a small order.

japanese store-wise, there's:
- seifukuya.com
- ycsnow.co.jp/sailor/
- conomi.info (you can buy their stuff through cdjapan as well)
- rakuten, new or used
most of those will require a forwarding service. with all of those you'll most likely be shelling out more for for one shirt or skirt than you would buying a couple of the same off taobao, and some of the used pieces on rakuten (or yahoo japan) are from actual schools and can get pricey.

japanese search terms would be:
なんちゃって制服 (nanchatte seifuku)
セーラー制服 (specifically sailor seifuku)

there's probably more I'm missing or forgetting, but I'm just getting into seifuku myself so I don't know all the ins and outs yet. I can translate moonrunes though, so if you have questions regarding any of the japanese stores I can help you out there.

So I recently bought some pleated skirts from Bodyline because of their free shipping promotion, and I'm pretty impressed. The material is decent - not up to par with a $90+ uniform skirt for an actual high school, but definitely not terrible.

I think it can depend on the skirt. The skirt I bought was about the same quality as the solid colour ones. It was not see through and felt sturdy.

However, I've heard from other buyers that if you buy the Bodyline skirts that have the elastic on the sides instead of the adjustable buckle, it's a much thinner material with no pockets. So make sure you look for the little triangular bit on the waistband that covers the adjustable buckle.

Thanks, I was thinking about getting the navy one you got, so I think I'll go for it, maybe tomorrow I'll do it.

Stupid question, but if I get a size so that it sits on my hips instead of at my waist, do you think the length would look okay? I kind of want slightly longer skirts so I figured going one size up and wearing the skirt on my hips would give me the length I'm looking for. I guess since the waist is slightly adjustable I might be able to tighten it to fit on my waist too. That would be REALLY versatile.

I'm requesting outfits worn with unique or different socks! Socks are one of my favorite accessories and I feel like this sort of style is perfect to wear some funky and cute ones, especially if you want to make it look less like a real uniform. Like in >>8366866 the socks have a subtle pattern, and in pic related the socks are striped around the tops. Slouchy socks are okay but I'd prefer to see something different than the standard white-pushed-down-to-my-ankles socks. Anything different than standard uniform socks is good.

If you buy a skirt that fits your hips that are like the ones I bought from Bodyline, they definitely will be too big for your waist. Unless you have no hips, haha.

I'm 161cm and bought the 2L size, which is 44cm long and it goes about 2/3 of the way to my knees. The measurements are listed on the site, so I'd check it and measure from where you want the skirt to sit on you.

>> No.8367505

>>8367456
I'm almost the same height as you, might be just a touch taller, so length would actually probably fit me about the same. I tried to check measurements for length but I have a hard time actually visualizing them, so thanks!

Damn, too bad, being able to adjust the waist to fit so it could be worn lower or higher would be absolutely perfect. A 5cm difference on the adjuster sounds like enough that I could wear it at least a bit higher but I assume Bodyline's measurements are already taking into account the adjustable waist, and if that's so then yeah, it wouldn't be able to fit me both ways.

I think I'll probably still go with the bigger size, I'm worried the size that fits me at the waist might be a little uncomfortable, I prefer my close to fit looser, otherwise I feel a little sick.

That just seems crazy to me. I understand that the people who wear uniforms need them to be very good quality so they last up to the daily use, and nicer schools tend to get special uniforms with their colors or symbols or whatever, so the price will be more expensive, but holy cow I can't even wrap my head around anything that could justify that price. At that point, any arguments in favor for mandatory uniforms seem invalid, especially because the biggest argument is "not having to worry about your clothes" and "saving students and parents money on fashion."

I've always checked local thrift and consignment stores for any plated skirts and have found nothing. Even if I found one I like in a color I didn't I could always try to dye it. I've been thrift shopping regularly for 10 years now and I've never once seen a pleated skirt.

That is really logical advice thank you. Make's me feel dumb for even asking, ha ha ha.
Now the only problem is that I have no idea how much use I'll get out of it. I'm in the middle of a wardrobe/style change and want to try wearing skirts on a daily basis but am coming from wearing them only a few times a year. It's a big jump and I'm worried I won't be able to go through with it.

The great thing about sockdreams is that yes, they have socks long enough to be thigh high, but they're really into the whole "beauty at every size thing" so they provide really detailed descriptions of how everything is supposed to fit to cut down on plus size customers complaining that x and y doesn't fit like advertised. So if you know you're super tall or cursed with 22" thunder thighs you can check measurements that way. Also if you're into that kinda thing some of their socks are made from recycled fibres in ethical factories etc. etc.

Not to mention, free US shipping (they do the occasional international free shipping event) and the huge variety of styles and colours they offer. And great customer service.

I'm starting to sound like a huge shill here but I just really fucking love the socks from there. the extraordinary thigh highs are the best socks I've ever owned.

Like, instead of a uniform blouse, maybe some other kind of button up? MAybe not a button up at all? In the last thread there were hoodies in a couple pics but that's too hot to wear here in the summer. Or different socks, or unusual footwear.

that skirt length was the norm at my school, only girls that wore theirs at their knees were the severe tomboy types. Granted every school here has uniforms and my school was casual as fuck as long as you didn't have incredibly unnatural hair colours, facial piercings, incorrect shoes, etc, your skirt could be 11inches above your knee (my senior one was, admittedly my legs are miles long) be fine. I can understand that. When I was still in school I would have been upset if we had been made to wear school uniforms. We were almost made to and I was so worried because it would have been ugly and terrible.

I like nanchatte style and sailor style uniforms, even back when I was worried about the possibility of being made to wear one in school. They obviously don't look anything like an official uniform, the idea being nanchatte uniform is you get to have the experience of a school uniform but actually look cute. Think of it as getting the chance to have a uniform you wouldn't have hated wearing. I think it appeals to people who have fond memories of school, which is not me at all. It appeals to me (and of course probably a lot of people as well) because I like the overall look of it and it can be appropriate for casual wear and can be made to look more formal. I like the ribbons, I like short skirts worn with baggy tops. I love tartan patterns and most skirts are tartan. And probably most of all I love sailor themed anything.

I don't want to be mistaken for a student from a *specific* school. Some business owners like to meddle (or I guess they've had bad experiences with students coming in and wrecking shit) and they will report you to the school if you're out and about during school hours. Also idk how it is now but back when I was in high school there was some horrible bullshit rivalry between us and the public high school down the street. Walking past the other school in uniform sometimes meant getting spit on or having shit thrown at you. I don't mind if people just think I'm a student, I've had a few ask and I can always truthfully say "Yes I go to Local University." But it's not like they'll call Local Catholic High School because they recognize the tartan of the skirt I'm wearing.

>>8392596
Are you thinking of McCarthy's? In Ontario at least it's them, as well as Halperns, that sell uniforms. Bear in mind though that they won't sell to you unless you show a student card from that school (although as a form of security it's bullshit as people regularly sell used uniforms on Kijiji).

I didn't hate my high school uniform until they introduced extra bullshit rules like "only wear opaque navy tights in Ontario humidity and black shiny shoes with the kilt." The uniform was introduced the year after I moved and the rules only got worse as time went on.

Aside from that, it was navy and white in colour and we had a good variety to mix and match with:

>kilt (not a skort, but it came with little stretchy safety shorts)
>dress pants in navy and khaki (later replaced with dress pants 2.0 which had no belts loops, so I couldn't wear them because my proportions put me between sizes, shit sucked)
>polo shirts in navy and khaki
>white blouse or blue oxford shirt
>vest, v-neck sweater, sweatshirt as outerwear

>> No.8393532

Should people wear the shoes in that picture for nanchette or something more casual? Since it is a fashion style and not an actual uniform, where is the line drawn?

>>8392956
Yeah, McCarthy's! That's the place I meant. I didn't realize you would need to show a student card to buy the uniforms. That seems odd. It's not like school uniforms are normally illegal or dangerous.

My highschool was really strict about uniform. The vice principles were known to just walk around and yell at everyone about making sure their skirts were the right length and that they were wearing their vests.

My school colours were black, white, and purple, so it wasn't bad at all. The pants were khaki for some reason, but the kilt was black and white with a blue stripe in the plaid, the vests and sweaters were black and the shirts were white.

>> No.8394025

>>8393728
The reason for showing a student card was so make sure that only students purchased uniforms. That way if there was an intruder in the school, he wouldn't be able to just put on a uniform and blend in.

But like I said, it's dumb anyways because people sell used uniforms all the time and minus the logo, it's really not hard to find navy pants and white polo and blend in reasonably.

Our faculty was really strict about skirts too. The principal was a nightmare and everyone bitched about how draconian she was in enforcing the rules. Meanwhile her daughter always pranced around with her skirt hiked up. This was apparently the reason McCarthy's stopped producing skirt kilts and only made skorts. Of course we got around it because our uniform came from Halperns.

I'm going to order two bows bro Boyline this weekend (unless someone buy them out on me :'( I hope they are all still there by the weekend ha ha) from their tie section. But I'd also like to know some other places to buy bows.

I've never attempted it, but I've thought about taking apart cheap men's ties and turning them into bows. I'd think the fabric might not lay quite right though.

Anyone got suggestions for decent blazers, or where to look for them? Pic related. Bodyline quality would be great, but they don't have what I'm looking for.

I'm really interested in getting into Nanchatte, what's the best way to start building a wardrobe?

>> No.8409451

>>8409368
A few different cardigans in different colors, a blazer or two (optional), a long and short sleeve button up, skirts in the neutral colors in plaid and solid, ties and bowties in colors that match your skirts and can be mix-n-matched (also not imperative but it'd be nice to have the option to use them if you wanted)...Enough to have a full wardrobe by having the basics and mixing it up then later add whatever else you want (like the uniform inspired pictures here).

It can get expensive depending on where you buy from but...its to be expected.

I bought a Candy Sugar bag from LawraraShop years ago. The bags are legit. The bag itself is pretty nice and has both a laptop spot that my 15.6" laptop fits into great and a water bottle spot. The front pocket is similar to the front pocket of nice backpacks and has spots to hold some pencils, a phone, etc.

I'd say the material is pretty durable, but I haven't used the bag for more than a few weeks, so I can't speak to how long it will last.

Cardigans because they stand out less and are more casual but I like the fitted look of a blazer more granted it is tailor to fit perfectly. Unfitted blazers are horrible and chunky

For cosplay quality you should just get it at bodyline.

>>8407498
Eh, it's fashion. Technically we're all trying to dress like models without actually being models, but that doesn't make it a costume.

Asking here as in the Bodyline thread in case people aren't watching both.

I was wondering if anyone has costume813. It seems to be their only green skirt and it's back in stock in my size, but I want to know if it's one of the nice skirts like >>8366480 or one of the cheaper ones with elastic or non moving clasp.
