So I know it's all about the layers, which I love, but how does one Mori in the spring/summer, when it's so much hotter out?

Not all mori is heavy layers, usually the more over the top it is, the more layering an outfit has, but there are some simple mori cords that have almost no layering. The more causal side of mori is very appropriate for summer.

It's also as expensive as you make it. You can pay a lot of money for clothes from Japan, or you can alter or make clothing yourself, or you can even find pieces in thrift shops that work. Since mori is suppose to look natural and most people into mori do like nature, I think thrifting for clothes and recycling old ones or old fabrics into mori clothes is a good idea, and it's cheaper than trying to buy something specifically made for the style.

I could never really get the dark mori thing, it never looks right to me. Like in my head it should still look like mori but with a swapped pallet but it doesn't. I even prefer wearing dark clothes, so IDK.

Agreeing with the other anon that this is not mori and more natural kei, if I have to put a name on it.

The fabric choices for both ^^ really don't give a mori feel at all. The first is way too heavy, baggy in the wrong way, and "alt"/"punky." The second relies too heavily on whatever both of their shirts are made of, lacks any really whimsical features, and is too clashy/unstructured.

I've said it in basically every mori thread for like the last two years, but I think it's important to saturate your brain with good examples of mori so that you get a feel for the fashion before you run out and buy stuff.
I also think it's best to stick with "safe" outfits in the beginning. Look at a specific, somewhat simple/basic/standard outfit that you like, and maybe try to replicate/mimic it. Once you have a good feel for the aesthetic, branch out and try being a bit more "creative."
Kind of like how newbs shouldn't try ero or punk lolita on their first time wearing the fashion, don't try to get to crazy when you first start buying/wearing mori.

Natural kei and mori have a bit of overlap, but these are all pretty mori. Natural kei is a bit less light/airy, doesn't feature as much layering/texturing, and is more little house on the prairie. Check out Pink House for some standard natural kei. Like the other anon said, doll in the attic keeps incorrectly tagging everything.

For the longest time I thought I liked mori girl (and there some coords that I do), but I have come to realize that I more of a natural kei girl and there is a difference. I pretty sure outfit shots get tagged for both so they can get more reblogs/likes on tumblr.

Is there any mori hairstyle that doesn't involve bangs? Particularly with short hair? My hairs about chin length and a fringe skimming my eyelashes. I've been having bangs for years so I want to grow them out.

The stuff is nice but construction is so-so. Loose threads and unfinished button-holes are just 2 of the flaws I found with my last order from them, I haven't had time to do a proper review just yet but I'd say buy 1 or 2 pieces and see how your luck goes instead of buying a big bulk order because their construction could be a lot better.

can I pull off mori if I'm overweight?

I dressed in layers when I was skinny but I'm a lot bigger now and I don't know how to dress my new body.

I'm 5'4" and 140lbs right now and used to be 95lbs

I think overweight people can pull mori off (I believe it doesn't matter what your body type is, you can dress however you want and look good if you're realistic and positive about it), but it takes more work because you have to work more at finding what flatters your shape. I wish I had some examples, but there's really few bigger people in mori. I personally can't give you any advice because I'm small and flat chested so I can wear any Jfash without having to worry about how it will look on my body. I'll try to find some pics, I'll post them if I find any.

What you said about it being regular Japanese fashion is partly true. It's called "mode," and I see it confused with mori/natural kei so often it's really getting on my nerves. I consider myself an actual mori (and I'll go hipster on us all and claim that I was mori before it was 'in') and those fucking mori groups on Facebook, man. I always feel like I can't say, "This isn't mori" because I will get the self-righteous replies that say, "We can wear what we like!" God damn it. You sure can, but don't label it mori if it isn't mori.

I know that mori girl is more or less an aesthetic, but I'm curious if anyone who wears the fashion also participate in a kind of a outdoors/homesteading lifestyle. It's totally impractical to wear cute lacy layers on a mushroom hunt, but I imagine that some mori-kei fans would also be attracted to or participate in things like hiking,hunting/foraging/fishing, preserving, and botany.

Has a nice selection of natural/mori shoes though they are a bit overpriced. You can prob find most of these on aliexpress or other tb sellers for less.

I've always liked long dresses and skirts like this but I'm always worried it'd just make me look frumpy or grandma-ey. Any patterns or materials to avoid to not look frumpy?

It's mostly fit. Boxy things on a thicker body looks grandma-y, so try for the pear shape look with the skirts and ruffles.

Too-long sleeves mixed with too-baggy pants are straight to frump land on most people, but separately they can work.

Colors and patterns I don't think are what makes frumpy.

I believe that style skirt is called a Handkerchief skirt and is achieved by sewing a circle skirt without cutting the hem on a curve. How to get that amount of volume, though. That I would love to hear. Layering two squares of fabric on top of each other only gives you about 8 points.

I am very interested in the outdoors and nature and do participate on a few outdoor hobbies. I always seem myself as a mori lifestylist if there were such a thing. I like to go camping and walking and animal watching and taking pictures of different plants and animals and stuff. I do, but wearing mori whilst doing it is quite uncomfortable. I do wear something more casual and mori-ish when rowing but in the actual forest there's too many ticks, thorny shrubbery and debris. There's too many mosquitoes and gnats as well, so I sometimes have to go full burqacore and cover up everything.
