It helps if you're either into acting or you already act like the character in some way. If you're similar in any way, try to focus on that trait at first because it will come more naturally. The problem with acting in those popular Q&A panels is it isn't just enough to act like your character - you have to be funny and great at improv which unfortunately most people are not.

I always thought it was a shame that 90% of panels are the same old improv Q&A instead of new ideas that still required in-character acting.

I was in character a bit as Terezi one time years ago when I was hanging out with a bunch of homestucks I didn't know and it was fun but also made me anxious and stressed at times. I haven't really tried it since but I want to and mostly just can't seem to build up the nerve to do it again when I'm around people I already know.

long time ago I did Meenah for a panel. It was fun, but I find myself still using the fish puns unintentionally from time to time. I also did Fef that weekend, so the entire thing was fish puns.

My last was god tier Roxy way back when they first hit god tier. I'm gonna break it back out this summer probably.

Ugh, I've recently got into Homestuck and wanna cosplay from it, but I've had so many bad run-ins with the immature, rude HS crowd that I'm not sure that I should. I want to make friends at cons who love this stuff, but it's hard to find the calm ones.

If you're legal, head to the barstucks, those are usually great. The older or mature cosplayers also tend to separate themselves from the loud ones and stick together, so even at a normal meet just cruise around until you see people who fit the bill and then strike up a conversation with them.

It really depends on your faceshape, but if your features are less angular (or better yet if you have a slim or round face), you could pull it off with makeup and a face-framing wig. If your face is boxier, maybe try for an older-looking ancestor. We can't give you more suggestions beyond that though unless we know what you look like.

Uh, it's kind of hard to feel "tricked" by a guy crossplaying. Drag also is over exaggerated makeup. Theofficialariel is really good at doing mtf makeup. There's never going to be a way to not 100% look like a dude. Most ftm cosplays literally never look like guys either.

Most of them are shitty and lazy. Also 90% of them abuse/use stupid AUs so that they're basically in regular clothes and a somewhat character specific wig. Like if you're doing UniversityStuck/ Highschool AU put on a Sburb/Sgrub related uniform or be in what looks like a class room for fucks sake.

There was one Terezi ask blog where it wasn't too bad, if i remember correctly she was in full cosplay and make-up with the chalk drawings of Terezi's room behind her (or maybe she had painted/drawn her room/wall behind her? i'm not too sure)

Like other anon said, most are either grossly sexual, lazy cosplays, pandering, or don't bother to do anything remotely interesting with their gifs. Or usually all of the above. The only ones I wore were vriska's, the paint job needs a touch up but other than that I thought they were pretty well made.
I used floral foam, light air dry clay, sandpaper, and gesso. I was afraid of super glue failing me so I also screwed the horns into a headband.
Guess I'll be digging them out of storage and finishing them up.

I mod a rather large community and I suppose for me, seeing them progress makes it worth it. It's. Rewarding, I guess? To see babbystucks start out with no wig, shitty horns and sloppy symbols, and only improve from there.

I've seen 16 year olds do incredible things. Heck, even a 13 year old impressed me this past weekend. My guys are always very thankful and supportive of each other too, so. That helps.

You should run it through some sort of editing software, though. It's super dark right now which makes it kinda hard to see.

I agree! There are a lot of high quality cosplays today and honestly I think a lot of Homestucks are stuck (lol) on the idea that the glory days have passed or something. Sure, we don't bring the same absolutely OBSCENE amounts of cosplayers to our shoots anymore, but there are still a ton of great Homestuck cosplayers. It is sad to see the threads dying out but it honestly seems like a lot of hamsteaks are still wandering about the past. Yeah I actually love the flatness at the base and the general shape of the way they curve around her head. I think what would have helped is if the grooves weren't so deep. Texture is fine but it's just a litttttle bit too much.

Aside from the shoes you look good. I'd look into just a plain white pair of loafers with green socks. The fitting is a bit off but I think it'll work with the cueball head, and all the proportions and body language is on point. My suggestion is to look at object head tutorials for mounting it, one thing I've heard is that hardhats work well for the purpose.
