im going to this in august and have no cosplay done, any ideas? (also anyone else going?)

>> No.8354892

is it worth it if i don't speak any French at all?

Omelette du fromage

>> No.8354895

most of the people in the area speak english, and all the people who go to this are english, if not, they at least speak it

>> No.8354898

>>8354892
People don't expect you to speak French tbh. I don't recall speaking French to many strangers, except my friends and boyfriend during the past few conventions.

>> No.8354899

>>8354892
Montreal is pretty bilingual. The signs at the con should be in both language. AA is pretty anglophone, and panels are a mixed bag. I hope you don't mind being surrounded by French blabber though, there is still a good amount of French speakers.

>>8354885
No cosplays done either. S-Still more than two months left before panic time, right?

>> No.8354904

>>8354899
(OP here) still not sure if im actually gonna cosplay or not

Same.but its going to hit us like a truck when there is no time left. I'm trying to get my comic con ones done first because its more "urgent"

>> No.8354912

>>8354904
I think you should! I've found that Otakuthon's pretty cosplay heavy in terms of cosplay to normie ratio. 2 months is enough time to get a costume done, even for a beginner, and it'll add to the fun con atmosphere.

I have 70% of one of them done, 5% of another, but I didn't start on the one I actually wanted to do yet. I might end up dropping it, knowing how bad I procrastinate on everything.

> mfw I stayed up until 4am last year to finish my cosplay

well as much as i'd like to, seeing as it is my first con and want to get the most out of it, i, 1:have no idea what to make or do, and 2: am rather low on money, because im starting college this september

>> No.8354938

Kind of feeling the post-AN blues, had no plans to go to this but how bad of an idea is it to plan to go now? Are hotel spaces still available? If not, I think I actually have a friend who lives dt but I'd rather not bother her if I don't have to.

>> No.8354957

>>8354927
Ouch that's bad. I already had to drop one costume I really wanted to make but I won't have the time because I'm also making my sister's costumes
>staying up until 4am
I'm trying... So hard.. Not to remake the same mistake this year. Cheers

>> No.8354966

>>8354938
The affiliated hotels are on the official website. There's still space at the Hyatt (but no free wifi, fuck that shit), and there's still rooms for two at the Travellodge? The cheapest passes are going to become not as cheap starting in less than a week though, so you might want to make up your mind by then.

>>8354937
Well, there's always the suggestions thread. I find cosplaying enhances the experience, but I also know people who just throw on a kigu or just wear normal clothes all weekend. Just do what your budget allows you to do or what you feel comfortable doing.

>> No.8354969

>>8354938
(OP here) tickets recently went on sale so you should be alright for those, im not sure on hotels thought, those usually go pretty quick

>> No.8354995

>>8354885
I'll be going! Only making one new cosplay though and re-wearing the rest since i'll be on vacation until a few days before the con and that leaves me very little time.

Ask the suggestion thread for ideas OP if you really can't think of anything but basically what >>8354966 said.

>> No.8355065

I'm going as well. From trips to Montreal they seem pretty nice in speaking English.

This is my first con/first time up here in Montreal so I'm a bit excited.

Though.. if you're planning a costume I'd get started.. nothing like rushing one.. I'm almost done mine and I'm still feeling pressure.

>> No.8356560

>>8354885
Yup, I'm planning on attending. Going out to get some fabric for something new tonight, should be able to finish in time.

>>8354892
I went last year without knowing any french and never had a problem, even getting around on Montreal's bus and subway was easy.

>> No.8356575

>>8354892
As a french dude I can confirm that you won't have any trouble. Montreal is very bilingual and the area you are in is almost 100% english.

Will be excited to see all the people I met at AN.

Thanks! I by-chance was talking to a friend today and she might actually be driving into Montreal for the exact weekend (what are the chances??) to visit a friend and would be down to take me with her! I'll confirm with her soon and get a ticket before prices go up. I can stay with her and she can probably drop me off at the con if we live farther than the affiliated hotels.

>> No.8356895

i-im going and this will be my first year/first time out of the US. I'll be with my friend who goes every year, though. I have one costume done but rest I need to start on before I procrastinate.

I haven't been there in a couple of years since I was really, really sick last year and couldn't go anywhere. Do they have issues with letting tumblr junk onto their schedule? Anime North was full of shit like "Homophobia and Transphobia in Gaming!" this year, and both the staff and con-goers were ready to accuse you of being a terrible person for disagreeing with such garbage being on the schedule. Does Otakuthon have the same issue?

>> No.8366868

>>8364844
i always thought itd b better to keep the panels respectful in terms of language & mannerisms in general an promote acceptance through that rather than entire panels that no1 really seems to attend or get the general public to see

>> No.8366888

>>8364844
Otakuthon has a few panels like "Tony Stark & Bruce Banner Slash", but there aren't as many tumblr-esque panels as at AN. They also try to vary the content by having 1-2 panels of the same thing (So not 7 Homestuck panels or 5 K-Pop panels about different K-Pop groups). Panels about Japanese culture/Anime seem to have priority.
