On a non-humorous note, these types of pictures reflect why asian cosplayers tend to be better than western ones. Not just because of photoshop or whatever, but because of the lengths they go to in order to get a good picture. The Japanese cosplay community is one that is truly dedicated to doing the best job possible.

I think this happens more in the Asian countries then NA because shoots in NA happen more at cons and the locations arent as great and we have more photogs. When my friends and I get together for a random weekend shoot we tend to get more creative and silly like this. We plan our shots more and brain storm ideas before the shoot. When I shoot with a photog at a con I plan less beyond maybe suggesting a pose. I'm not blaming the photogs but do find we get more lazy when we have them around as opposed to when I am with friends and we are doing the photography ourselves.

I feel its not so common here is that the photos that get circulated/shared here are glamor shots as opposed to scene recreation. Not to mention a majority of the cosplay shots taken is at con so they're not enough time to get such elaborate setups going.

Back to the original point, many of the top cosplay people here are more interested in their own personal image and thus want to look their very best in each photo. Heck even when these cosplayers "collaborate" they don't even pose next to each other and prefer to just have separate solo pictures.

Yeah, a lot of the ones ITT are recreating screencaps or scenes. Cosplayers here don't really do that a ton.

Plus Asian cosplayers are very focused on height accuracy, which is where a lot of this weird posing comes into play.

I do wish more cosplayers would do pictures like this, not so much glamour shots or convention hallway shots.

I agree that direct scene copying is more of an Asian thing. In the US we usually go for either glamor photos or storytelling pictures.

For what its worth I think storytelling photos are an ok substitution as it allows for more creativity in the layout of the picture and how the cosplayers look. I rank both styles above glamor pics as it gives the picture context and emotion

Being as I have been cosplaying for 16 years I can say this seems to be the case. Because of how it was when I started I tend to be much friendlier and talkative than my fellow cosplayers who haven't been doing it as long. I think I am stuck in "Whoa look at all these fans like me" mode. I never switched to "My ego says I wanna be the best" that we have a lot of now.

This is how exactly I feel. The biggest proof is that even in big cosplayer kickstarters or collaborations all the models involved rarely pose next to each other and are just a bunch of solo shots. Even if they do pose together you'll be lucky if they're interacting with one another and will do anything besides "stare at camera and make a pretty face"

>>8341545
This is the one thing I'll give Nigiri credit for is that she is not afraid of looking silly and doing humerous shots. In general cosplayers want to look as cool/awesome/sexy as possible and are a lot less likely to fully commit to an expression in order for it to look accurate/believable.

Honestly, even without the rabid ballerinas and musicians, I don't really see a reason to lug around a working but wrong guitar. Let's say you're cosplaying Mana, who has his own guitar (and line of ESP guitars). If you're walking around dressed like him, but holding the most obviously cheapest non-gothy-looking guitar ever, that only ruins the illusion, not add to it, you see what I mean? It's definitely better if you build a replica of the guitar that your character actually uses, especially since you don't even have a good reason for carrying a guitar that's functional but still useless.

>> No.8345274

>build a replica of the guitar that your character actually uses
I'm currently doing this for a costume it's a pain in the ass and I never want to do it again, Most of the time, a close enough instrument can be found or modified to resemble the canon one more. Unless they're an absolute stickler for accuracy or enjoy pain and frustration, I don't recommend making a replica.

Replica guitars aren't really that expensive. This is an Agile Les Paul replica that goes for about $200. The actual Gibson guitar it's based on sells for $1,800 and the Epiphone beginner LPs sell for about $400 - $500. A lot of musicians I've talked to have sworn up and down that the Agile is actually much better than the Epiphone version, so there's no shame buying a replica. SX makes Strat and Telecaster replicas for around $80. Pretty much any popular guitar design has a cheap replica out there that might be cheaper to buy than to actually make, considering most prop weapons are sold on ebay for over $100+.

In england it's spelt "curb" too, I think original anon never seen it written before so they thought it was kerb, like I've still never seen crisp as in potato chips written so I'm always self concious whether I spelt it right.
