I guess the reason why guro lolita is just shiro with fake blood on it is that that doesn't require special prints or designs. You can just use whatever AP you had lying around instead of investing into hNaoto like here >>8309629 or waiting for a main brand to put out a distressed dress with a creepy print.

I think more OTT makeup for horror/monster like feel would be great for guro, instead of just blood-stains on dresses. Guro loli is already costume-y as it is so costume makeup shouldn't be too weird to add.

I know this might sound super cringe, but for halloween I think I might be interested in doing a Carrie-inspired guro lolita thing. I'm just not really sure how to go about it without it looking terrible. One of my ideas was to kind of do something a little more hime-influenced? Hime wig with a little tiara, one of those little AP-esque sashes (I know she doesn't have one in the movie, but kind of like...have that movie reference from being named prom queen but instead change it to something lolita related, like 'kowai ambassador'), maybe instead of a bouquet of flowers have some kind of corsage.

I know, at this point it's costumey (which is the point) and I know people's jimmies get rustled with lolita on halloween. But I dunno, I kind of like the idea I guess I'm just worried that I won't be able to execute it nice enough.

I think AatP's Charme de Rouge could make a lovely guro coord without resorting to any cliched bloodsplatter. Imagine this dress with white/ivory accessories, ivory shoes and a red ribbon tied around the ankles to symbolize that one's feet have been cut off. Additional creepy motifs like a necklace with an axe like the one in the print could be added, but this is the basic concept.

On a scale of 1 to hot topic, how ita would it be if I made a coord loosely based on a particular anime character who had his eye ripped out?

This is what I have so far. Along with the lace up ribbon socks, I plan to use layered, ripped white and cream fishnets. I'm considering removing the ribbon pin from the neck corset to keep the white from being over-powering. I'm also kind of at a loss as for what to do with my arms. I'd prefer not to incorporate a blouse, as between that and the neck corset, there won't be any gaps to break up my linebacker shoulders.

I think I will, I'm just wondering how should I go about doing the blood? Like, I plan on just getting a bodyline jsk and getting some sort of blouse that isn't too expensive that I won't care about if and when it gets stained by the blood. I'd say switch out the shoes from something a little less sweet. Maybe some Moitie-esque platform? Also a bit curious as to how the 'guro' aspect is in there. If you want to go for a kind of wilted look, it would be kind of cool to adorn yourself in some less pristine flower accessories. I'm not sure if it would world, but if you had some fabric flowers you could lightly stain the edges a little bit darker for that kind of effect? (if you want to have it be a little more guro, you could also slightly splatter them with a browner red for a dried blood effect. But you know, subtlety.) Also, nix the cross pendant entirely, it doesn't go with the theme.

I don't really agree with anon about the cross. It works perfectly fine. I wouldn't go with the roses though and replace those lace socks with a more rough, bandage like material (like the eye patch (?) or that other thing on the middle left.

Switch out the white headdress for a black one. Don't do the ribbons on the arms, because that can have the tendency to look pretty ita. Plus, without modifications, it'd be hard to get them to stay in place. You have two pairs of socks on there but no shoes, but I'd say go for the OTKs rather than the lace-up socks, because the rest of you is pretty covered, so bare-ish legs/ankles throws it off a little bit. If you do add ribbon to socks, please do make sure it's not a gross, shiny, satiny ribbon, which will give it a more costumey effect. It would be kind of cool if your ribbons were an organza or something light and sheer. Also, to emulate blood, consider using red drop jewelry in your coord.

I know creepy cute is a tumblr trash trend but I would kind of like to see it mixed with some more guro-like aspects in order to bring out the creepiness.

People in Victorian times often picnicked in graveyards. In modern times, many cultures hold celebrations in graveyards. There's a musical festival held every year in the Hollywood Forever Cemetery.

Why are you telling people how to grieve? People shouldn't take pictures at funerals? The last two funerals I've been to have been filled with people taking pictures (selfies included) because it was the first time in awhile the whole family had been together. What is undignified about spending time with your living relatives and celebrating the life of the person who died?

OK, so this is not perfect, but what I was thinking is the body of the outfit, should have lots of layers and pintucks but have it all be one solid dark color like black, wine, emerald green, those sorts of colors. The idea is to have tons of details that you don't see unless you look at it for a long time and the more you look the more detail pops out at you, to reflect the crazy architecture. I think that Haenuli's pintuck dress works well for the idea.

I included a tooled leather bag in the same color as the dress to add on to details, the bracelet is kinda arcane looking and super detailed, and the ring reminded me of some paintings of R'lyeh that I saw. I chose ivory tights with a lace scale kind of pattern because I felt like they offset the wig color I chose for a more balanced feel.

The makeup should be pale and sickly looking, maybe even go for kind of a drowned look like the deep ones. The hair should be kinda ratty and the headpiece should be again, detailed but all one color, maybe not very big either.

Then I think there should be only one or two overt monster pieces. I was really in love with this eyeball guy necklace, so I thought maybe the leather eyepatch with the red demon eye would go nicely. Like she sacrificed her eye for an old one and received a cool new eye for it kind of deal.

Anyway, like I said it isn't perfect and there is lots of potential for the idea to be butchered by cthulhu fans who have never read any of the books, but this is what I think of for putting together a Lovecraftian inspired coord. I wonder if anyone else has ideas for it? I would really like to see what someone else would do!

Alright, I had some fun with this.
I love your ideas, but I agree with the other anon that the necklace seems out of place. I wanted to pull most inspiration from the necklace, so I threw in some red colours and more glass eyes because they're cool as shit. I wish Haenuli made that pintuck dress in a skirt form, I love it, but I think having all that wine colour would be too much.
I'm not in love with the purse I chose, Ideally I'd like something like your tooled leather with a large green glass eye in the middle bit. A hybrid of the purse I used and yours.
That reddish blob thing is actually a bracelet, made of like, felted wool and glass beads and some other nonsense, I figured that it would be creepy and tentacle-y enough without going the route of "Eldritch=tentacles"
Ivroy tights to bring out the colour of the whites of the eyes and the teeth on the necklace. I thought their pattern was pretty cool and intricate, reminded me a lot of architecture.
The red wig might be too much red, so alternatively, Lockshop sells the same wig in like, a dark grey colour which I played around with.

Yeah I can totally understand that. Maybe if you found something that had already been badly damaged or stained, and was cheap and not too elaborate. It would take a lot of careful planning and practicing to get the right effect and not just ruin a dress with soot and matches.

ayrt, inb4 gb2 tumblr but i feel like theming a whole print around lobotomy/quack science performed on mentally ill people isn't something to treat lightly or use for omg shockhorror value, since electroconvulsive therapy was still used through the late 20th century, is still being used now in some cases (google judge rotenberg center, or don't if you don't want to hate humanity forever) and is just a historical atrocity that shouldn't be reduced down to a horror themed lolita print

if it were just the phrenology diagrams and not the surgical tools (and the name of course) i'd think that print was awesome, but given how it's being framed as "look at this thing we used to do to mentally ill people, woo scary" it seems in horrible taste to be treating as trivial as material for a dress print.

I agree with you completely, but I honestly don't believe many horror fans consider the reality of human suffering when putting together these costumes. Technically, a lot of guro can be perceived as the fashionable emulation of victims of abuse and brutality, such as murdered children (sorry I mean 'broken doll') and the like. So really, where is the line drawn? Is violence towards the mentally ill any more tasteless then violence towards young girls? Sorry if this comment rustles jimmies, I'm not trying to start fights. I just have a lot of conflicting feelings on this subject. I've always been drawn to the macabre, but am repulsed by violence. So I have a love/hate relationship with guro lolita.

This is HDoll anon, and I must say, this whole thread speaks to me so hard. I've been working on the best guro coord that I can make that doesn't involve blood, and the only goddamn thing I'm missing is the dress and I swear it's gotten to the point where it's haunting my dreams now.

I want to see more people try guro without the blood; it's a style I really love but is really honestly boring and super limited in examples right now.
