I, too, am a Nonon cosplayer and I'm here to tell you 90% of Nonons don't use ponytail wigs because they're absolute garbage and look terrible.

Not to mention if you're going for accuracy, you'll be using a marching band hat as your base hat (commonly called shakos) and you literally cannot shove a ponytail into those hats.

am I the only one annoyed with giant Nui wigs? They all look like horseshit. I've even attempted this wig and said fuck it.
This is the only decent one I could find, but the curls aren't that accurate and the color is off.

What >>8296570 said...shakos are small enough when you're wearing a wig, you won't be able to jam most of a wig in there on top of that. The Katinka is a very good bet. If Rose Pink is out of stock you could always get one of the lighter pink colors and tint it darker with Rit or iDye Poly.

Definitely agree a more natural interpretaton of Nui's hair looks better. I once saw someone compare these types of giant, overly literal wigs to elephant ears and I can't unsee it ever since.

as long as you can get the silhouette of the pigtails to be proportional to your own body like nui's is (aka longer ponytails that are curved a bit in terms of shape that go down to past her waist) then i think its okay, but it's quite a feat.

The best wigs in my opinion are the ones that are a cross between natural but still have a LOT of volume and length to be big

I'm both a Nonon cosplayer and I've been in marching band, and yes you can fit a ponytail in there. How do you think girls with long hair wear them?
Hint: Rarely, if ever, does anyone cut their hair for fucking marching band.
Shakos have that leather thing inside that rests the hat against your head, and there's a string through it that makes it adjustable. Just loosen it so your wig fits.

There was some debate amongst the lolitas about it a while ago, and they came to a consensus that Nui fits in with hime gyaru.
So yeah, that's the kind of approach I'd take if I cosplayed Nui.

I wore a ponytail wig and it wasn't a problem. There was lots of space within the headwear.
My only problem was the length and weight of the shako, but that's more so due to bad choices when extending it. (I used foam and then sandwiched it with Worbla.)

Definitely a harness. They won't sit properly on your shoulders no matter how hard you try, especially with how you need to move your arms and shoulders to begin with. Something that would help a lot though is a simple base that rests on your shoulders like a standard pauldron. Then you can build ontop of it and it'll hold well

I want to cosplay Ragyo to Otakon this summer. I know I can make a kickass dress, but I have no idea how the fuck to make the wig. What's the consensus here on lights vs LEDs vs el wire? Any idea where I should start?

I really like this Nui. There are some minor flaws (puckering near the straps, visible bow clip) but this is a good representation of what I think she would look like irl. The hair is curly enough but not to the point where it looks ridiculously plastic.

Man I've gotten pretty /fit/ recently and feel like I could pull a really good Ryuko crossplay. But Fanime is in two weeks and I've never worked with spandex and sewing those pieces together. Half convinced to just buy something off eBay and modify it, anyone had experience with that?

I think that commissioner mentioned that the cosplayer wanted the hair lavender. I honestly don't mind this because at least it adds dimensionality to the costume. Better than >>8309206 anyway.
