The blog and nostalgia threads have inspired me so much to pick up blogging. I've got summer break coming up in 2 weeks and absolutely nothing to do so I'm really excited to have something I can try out and play around with. I may just end up doing for a month and then give up but it's still an exciting prospect.

>> No.8304497

So recently my guy roommate and I recently discovered that we were both into Lolita. He jokingly made a remark to me because how he wish I was his girlfriend. My boyfriend didn't really appreciate that joke and I'm worried that my roommate may actually like me. We have been friends since highschool and I live with him in his house .

My boyfriend doesn't want me living with him, because he isn't comfortable with me living with a guy that may have feelings for me. My boyfriend is a photographer and he usually tags along with me and does photoshoots for local cosplayers/lolita/etc. I don't really have real life friends that are into Lolita. I like the thought of being closer to my roommate, but I don't want to encourage any feelings he has for me. I can't move out because I cannot afford to live on my own. I don't want to go back to family. I don't want to live at my boyfriend's house because I really do not wish to be with him 24/7 ( I love him, but I need alone time).

Be honest with both of them. To the friend, say something like; "hey, it's really cool we're both into lolita, it's great but that offhand comment you made about wanting me as a girlfriend made me a bit uncomfortable because I don't have feelings for you in that way and just want to be friends.". To the boyfriend say "I've spoken to friend and made it clear I'm not interested; I don't have feelings for him except as a friend. I know it made you uncomfortable but I don't really have many other housing options at the moment so I want to keep house sharing with him." I'm curvy though (D-cup and not fat), and a lot of the normal-waisted jsks either give me boobloaf or end up high-waisted on me anyway (like they'd end up around my underbust). High-waisted dresses are a complete no-go for me, a lot of them end up cutting right across mid-bust.

What's a good detergent to use when washing lolita?
I've heard some recommendations of Woolite, (especially since they have a version specifically for dark clothing), but I worry because both the regular and dark version are scented. I've heard that scented detergents or ones that claim to "soften" clothing can leave residue on fabric. They do, however, have a baby version (pic related) that claims to be
> hypoallergenic and free of harsh enzymes and chemicals (bleach, phosphates, enzymes & dyes)
I've also heard people recommend Oxyclean, but I've heard others condemn it for being too harsh for expensive fabric.

The stuff that leaves residue on clothing is not woolite, but fabric softener, which has waxes. That is why towels usually get nonabsorbant over time, with the waxes building up on each individual wick. Just stay away from conventional softener and you're all good.

If you've already used softener on any clothing or even towels, don't worry. Just put in a quarter-cup of white vinegar in the rinse cycle. The vinegar will loosen the buildup, and even help to lock in dyes. You can continue using white vinegar as an alternative fabric softener for future wash cycles. The smell of vinegar will disappear when the clothing becomes dry.

Gurl, that is not how you use Japonica. They always assume the money you gave them is your absolute max and will not send reminders. If you wanted to win the auction *that* badly, give them all of the money up front, not half now with an intention to increase later. If the auction ends lower they'll refund you the money anyway (yes, you need to be totally okay with not having the money refunded straightaway, it does take them while to refund since they do it all manually).

Where this is helpful is when you've got a shopping addiction but must have the dress anyway (or at least make an attempt at it), so giving them a set amount and not being allowed to increase it later means you can step away from the computer and don't end up impulse bidding higher than you planned.

They're also better on mbok than yja, they have a small group of girl accounts on there that gets turned down less often by sellers who might otherwise cancel a bid from FJBIDDER, and I've had them try to get items that explicitly say in the listing the seller won't deal with shopping services (not always 100% success rate, but it's better than a definite "no" from fromjapan).

If you want full control over bidding on yja, then use fromjapan, they have a live bidding system which you can use to bid on things yourself. Mbok still works the same was as with Japonica, though, so toss a higher bid up front if you want the dress that badly.

This reminded me to look back at a Facebook conversation I had with a normalfag friend after a meetup a few months ago. I told them I'd had a nice time at the meet and showed them some group shots, and they commented on a lot of the outfits. It was interesting that they liked a kuro outfit the best but then said "black just works with everything I guess" because black was a "safe choice" so they seemed to think it was lazy coordination. Normalfags' frame of reference is totally different to how a lolita would see the same coordinates too, so they described one girl as "a bit neo-Victorian, the hat works to give it a bit of a twist" and another as "looks less lolita and more like a time traveller from 40s-50s America", even though I didn't think either coordinate really looked like that. Also described a very sweet coordinate in black as "witchy" and said they thought it'd look good with a witch hat.

Normalfags are prejudiced against pastel colours like fuck, too, and they sort of get coordination but not originality. "That girl works pretty well from this angle, if a bit saccharine but the one next to her is sort of... all the horrible pinkness but worse and without the redeeming co-ordination making the one previous better by comparison" was something they said about two girls, even though I actually thought the latter had a better and more original coordinate because the former was just wearing a set.

There are a lot more different variations on shoes within the same colour than bags, I suppose, since you have to consider comfort (heels/no heels) and season (boots/shoes).

Depends on why I'm selling. If I really need the money, then I'm open to negotiating a lower price, but if I'm not financially crunched then I usually have a number below which I'd rather keep the item than sell.

That said, I also assume that I will lose 50% value from the purchase price when I resell. If I can get more than that, great, bonus for me, but since it's clothing, I find it safest to assume that it will devalue after purchase. Think of it from the buyer's point of view - for a plain dress or a not-in-demand print, $40 isn't much of a deal to buyers; why not just spend a little extra money and get a brand-new dress instead of buying yours second-hand?

Some of it is comfort factor and the shoes I tend to favor wearing, and some of it is shoes matching to specific dresses or coords. But there are still a handful number of wishlist shoes I'd like to find/buy. Luckily I only wear classic/gothic, so my shoes generally work for both depending on the feel of a specific coord.

Sometimes I regret trying to be polite. A seller on lacemarket told me if I paid the invoice before Monday they would mail it out. I wrote back to them saying I'm not in the biggest hurry to receive it for anything so shipping Tuesday or so wouldn't be a problem. They didn't invoice me until Sunday and I paid immediately so in theory they received the money early Monday latest. I don't know about Lief accessories specifically, but I've personally found that in general, indie items have a tendency to be slightly harder to find or more sought-after when on the secondhand market (you either rarely see items up for sale/trade or when you do find them they are bought up quickly. I know this doesn't go every single indie item ever, it's a generalization)

so to answer your question, probably yeah. if you're not looking to get it within a certain time frame, feel free to put up WTB's for it but if you're looking for a headdress like that and want it within a reasonable amount of time it might be easier to commission or DIY.

I think the first 2 colorways look nice, and imo the red one doesn't look that bad either, but I think the print definitely would look nicer if it wasn't black - I feel like some of the details get lost because there's a low contrast between the navy and the black. As a seller and a buyer I feel like if you're going to become busy or you know that sometimes you forget to check your messages, you should let that person know. Like I don't get why people don't do things like that cause don't we all know how annoying and frustrating it is when someone doesn't respond quickly?

On the other hand, buyers that are very talkative and communicate a little too much. I try to limit my communications to 'business only' with maybe one or two small talk type things here and there ("I can't wait, this dress is so pretty"/"Hope you enjoy it, it's a very lovely piece" etc) but jfc. I did a trade with a girl a year or so ago, and I told her when I would be going to the post office. The day I went she wouldn't stop messaging me. I have all positive feedback and a good amount of it too (about 20 from all sources) so imo at face value there was no reason for her to believe I would be trying to scam her or anything and she was an experienced buyer/seller too. We both shipped on the same day but like, first thing in the morning she was like "omg so excited!!! going to the post office later!!" and then a couple hours later was like "getting ready to go out and leave, eating lunch now!" and then like 2 more goddamn status updates about what she was doing, and then asking what was going on on my end. like holy shit mang I said I wouldn't be able to go to the post office until after work so like 3-4 PM, chill. I understand being worried about getting a flake or a scammer but like, I don't give a shit about your life and what you're up to at the mo. If you think you're gonna ship later than expected, just say that and we can work it out if it's an issue or if you have questions for me please just ask them instead of skirting around them because she also came off like she thought I was going to scam her because I wasn't indulging her in these twitter-esque personal updates.

Really? Not the OP of that post but I always bend over backwards to get peoples' packages shipped within a day of them paying and I usually expect them to do the same. With Paypal it takes literally 10 minutes to get things packed and printed and you can just drop it in a post box unless it's a pretty large package. If people take longer than 2 or 3 days it's just lazy as fuck, unless they're selling their entire wardrobe or something. Also anon said that person had already said they could ship it out Monday so that is definitely annoying.

On a somewhat related note, after being in this community for a couple years I always dread selling things because of how many horror/generally annoying stories I've heard, but I feel so lucky because I haven't had a bad experience yet. Shipping via paypal is not an option in my country. And to make things even worse, the local post offices (we have three) are used for more than posting things, people use them to pay bills, road taxes, and buy/sell some specific government bonds. On an average day I basically take a number and wait an hour before I can even get to the counter.

I work full time, too. Not like I can explain to my boss how I need to take an extra hour off just so I can go post frilly dresses. Most times I try to post it during my lunch hour, but even so, sometimes the post office is just too packed or something happens at work that means I work through lunch.

I can see how things can drag out to 4 days. Normally I tell my buyers if there has been a delay for longer than 2 days, though. Hobby has a lot of impatient buyers.

I don't have that option in my country - PayPal is fairly different outside of America.

I work full time so Saturday is generally the best day for me to go to the post office. Sometimes I'll go on my lunch break if I have enough time but it can get really busy around then (peak time). Other times I'll get my partner to do it because he's a student so has a lot of free time during the week.

So on that basis I don't mind waiting up to a week for someone to send a parcel, people are busy with jobs and don't necessarily have the same level of convenience as others.

Depends on what look you're going for. Less circumference looks more otome/toned down or classic look, more looks increasingly retro as you approach a gathered full circle. I have a 64 cm waist, and I do flared, non gored skirts that use the full width of a 150 cm piece of fabric, so the actual circumference is a bit more than that due to the curve. If I wore super sweet with giant petticoats I might bump that up a bit, but that amount of flare works well for my style.

>This tradition comes from an Old English rhyme ("Something Olde, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue, A Sixpence in your Shoe"), and the four objects that the bride adds to her wedding outfit or carries with her on the big day are just good luck charms. Don't stress too much about them -- they are the little tokens of love your mother, sister, other relatives, and attendants will give you at the eleventh hour (although you can give them to yourself, too). Something old represents continuity; something new offers optimism for the future; something borrowed symbolizes borrowed happiness; something blue stands for purity, love, and fidelity; and a sixpence in your shoe is a wish for good fortune and prosperity, although this remains largely a British custom.

I wouldn't say its a traditional wedding color, but the saying and tradition still runs strong. Women will often buy garters with blue ribbons to have that "something blue"

Is now just not the time that people are buying on lace market?

I watched Merry making party black jsk and brown merry sweet castle go from $100 auction now to $80 auction with no bids.
A few days left... are they just really un popular now or are people just missing them?
The same seller sold fruits parlor for $82

Or is it because the person has no feedback and "leaving lolita" sales seem sketchy.

Does anyone have any tips for fixing or improving the appearance of moderate boobloaf? I have a babydoll style jsk that has a bit of loaf going on but it's nothing major, it does however mean I don't feel as good in it as I'd like.

I can't find any minimisers in my size (probably because my bust isn't actually very big) but could try a particular bra style or sports bra if it would help. My boobs just don't quite fit into the bodice section and it makes them look kinda saggy because of it, like they are hanging too low.

try to adjust the straps on the jsk so they're longer if possible, and also try shortening your bra straps - I find that for me, making sure the girls are a little more pulled up helps? I find that when my boobs are eating up the bodice, this helps a lot (cause it kinda changes their shape from saggy titties to perky titties). that, plus a sports bra may help - you might have to experiment. but yeah besides that I don't think there's much else you can do besides getting a binder? The thing that is great about this is that she didn't try to change the shape of the kimono top. She just left it about as traditional as it can be with no crazy frilly embellishments and paired it with a nice simple bottom making the kimono the star of the outfit. It also gives me very shrine maiden vibe.

These types of dresses, these bodyline disasters are never in a print that you'd see on a kimono. Everyone wa-lolita attempt thinks they need to be grossly decorated with ruffles, crazy prints, hideously large bows..

doesn't she use a real kimono for this and just rolls up the bottom? for me I feel like the make-it-or-break-it factor as to whether a wa-loli coord actually looks good is the kimono part being good quality (either a real one or a well-made false/half/blouse/whatever type one) and then not overdoing it because the kimono part is the real star of the coord - this coord is so great because the execution is clean, simple, and not overloaded with crap (tacky accessories and too much print).
I also think the high waisted skirt here works so well because it comes off as a really nice equal parts kimono, equal parts lolita. I always hate the wa-lolita pieces where the pattern of the top kinda goes over the skirt or the whole thing is one OP because it ends up looking very costume-y (like a cosplay or shitty "sexy geisha" halloween costume) and just like...it might have the lolita shape/silhouette but it doesn't have enough of that aesthetic for me. I love the skirt because it just seems to tie in the aesthetic in a very lovely way.

But, it makes sense in gothic. Crosses are common imagery used in any gothic fashion. It's a trend in sweet because tbh there really isn't any reason for it to be in floral prints, prints with daisies and gingham, prints with fucking kittens, etc. I think it's just the sweet oriented brands jumping on the recent religious-themed trend and trying to cram into stuff to be, well, trendy.

Even gothic was selective about it, though. There are dresses where the whole point is crosses, like Divine Cross or Jewelry print, or prints like Alchemy where a cross makes sense (sort of).

However, moitie also does a lot of rose-themed dresses and they don't feature crosses. Silent Moon was moreso a landscape print that happened to contained a few churches. Stained Glass completely left out any crosses at all (though one might be hiding in one of the stained glass panels).

>>8309550

I think the crosses here would make sense if they called it Mary's bouquet instead of Juno's bouquet, and added a version in light blue. I really don't get what Juno has to do with crosses, even if it's a wedding print these are completely seperate religions, and as someone who's not Christian, I would never ever have crosses at my wedding, even if I opted for a white ballgown at some point of the ceremonies.

That said, props to whoever can manage a tutulus hairstyle with lolita fashion.

Mary's bouquet would make this print entirely too morbid--here, Mary, enjoy your wedding dress with a nice reminder of how your son will die a nasty death. Juno's bouquet makes much more sense--I'm sure she at least thought of crucifying some of Jupiter's conquests, though if I were her I'd've had Jupiter up there dying slowly for a few years for embarassing me. If she hadn't been so jealous I would've thought Juno had been set up as goddess of marriage just to justify cheating husbands.

Why the hell would a SS put down money for you and hold it until you can finally manage to scrounge up enough money for some luxury item? If you have to do a payment plan to buy something, then don't buy it and start saving your money like a respectable person.

Man, what is up with this kind of entitlement with western lolitas.

How you know all these summer children posters are younger than 30. Back in my day your credit card only worked in one store and they had to carbon copy it every time you wanted to buy something.

I think crosses are just really versatile and not exclusively gothic at all. They can be incredibly basic, just two orthogonal lines or those elaborate ones like in junos bouquet. You can fit them on any vaguely western print like you can wear a cross with any western outfit.
I have to admit I'm not into sweet but I thought all of the prints mentioned did benefit from the crosses.

Look at the base moulding on the wall. You can see it's warped from photoshop. It looks like it's melting.

ok so i'm interested in making a reservation for btssb's new Juno's Bouquet. ive ordered off the site before, but i've never done a reservation. i know you're supposeto be able to reserve through the shopping cart, but i've noticed that the skirt says you can not accept reservations, the socks say the reservations start on may 20th, and the headdress says you can reserve through the shopping cart system. i'd like to get them all at the same time. what's the deal? what do i do? do i just have to wait and worry if the items i want will run out or not?

Try adding 'korea' or 'fashion' and 'ladies' to court shoes when you're searching on ebay or aliexpress. I have found some nice loliable shoes on there with that term, though maybe not what you're looking for.

Actually Star of Davids are already super popular in Japan as a motif, but as an alchemic/magic symbol, as you can see in >>8309529. The reason for this is association with kabbalic practice:

I wanna see this in black and the pinks in shades of red/white and gray. It's not dreamy-baby-room-tier sweet but I am into that 'bittersweet' crossover, so shoot me.
