This is my lineup so far. Debuting Ravenborn LeBlanc and I might do Valentine if I have enough time.

Hey! I'll be going this year. I just got done ordering the wigs I'll be styling for my Rose Quartz Cosplay. I figure why not use the fact that I look pregnant half of the time to my advantage.

IS it just me or did the rooms book up super fast this year. I went looking in October for a room for 4 people and they seemed to all be gone already. I also like the whole having your badge mailed to you but the shipping price seems way too high.

Pretty hype for this year, actually. Its the first time I can devote all of my time for a single cosplay instead of helping out others for theirs. Spreading my focus really gimps the quality.

I'll be doing a male version of Haruna Kai2 from Kancolle. Cannons and all!

And if there are people in the streets breaking cars and stuff that's not exactly safe for people to get to and from the convention center. Everything will be fine by Otakon. I live in Baltimore and haven't been down to the harbor since before the riots, I've heard it's completely intact and I hope that's true.

What's the lolita scene like at Otakon? Is there a meet?

Bullshit. As someone who's went to Otakon for lolita things in the last few years, there's a fuckton of us. Most everyone in the MD community is there. There's a lot of lolitas from the east coast and nearby states. It just doesn't bring out all the e-fame lolitas because there's no brand events going on. I was running into other lolitas left and right the last few years.

They've not done shit for lolita events in a few years. We've been pressing for another fashion show but they just don't want to include it anymore. However, there's a big tea party that takes place at a nearby hotel. Check egl starting next month for details. It was $40 or $50 to attend but it was a nice time.

There's also a lot of lolita indie brands in the artist alley so it's a good place to meet others. There were a few good panels last year.

So I got a room at the hilton that's connected to the BCC, does anyone know if I can pay for my room with my hilton hhonor points?

My point balance is like 700k, and I don't feel like dropping $800 when i could room for free.

When Otakon Housing transfers your info to the hotels after July 3rd then you should call immediately and tell them you want to use points.

Otherwise the Hilton will have no information on your stay until then..

First time going to Otacon this year, and I'm travelling down from Toronto. The room I got offered to stay in is going to be pretty pricey, or at least, seems like it to me. $150, thursday-sunday? Is that normal?

Would be very interested in finding somewhere cheaper to room.

If that's expensive to you, then maybe you shouldn't keep going to Otakon. The prices aren't any cheaper anywhere--I consider that a steal honestly. My room is $400 a night, much like most of the hotels around the area. This is before splitting the price of course, but $1200 for 3 nights is kind of normal on the harbor. If you don't mind splitting a room with like 12 people, then I'm sure you could find a room for $50 a night, but have fun with that.

Depends on how close the hotel is to the BCC. This is my 5th Otakon and it's usually an overall ridiculously expensive con so depending on location and the number of people staying in the room, $150 is within the pretty reasonable price range.

Like I said, first time. Just wanted to get an idea of usual prices. Katsu was only 75$ whole weekend for me.
And its 150$ thursday-sunday, with 7 people in the room. It's a King bed and a pullout in a separate, from what I understand.
Keep in mind I have travel costs too, on top of that badge price.

Final couple of questions for you, promise.

I'm a photographer, and was booked solid at Katsu this year. Can I expect the same, only everyone cooking hot instead freezing their asses off? US cosplay standards seem to be way high compared to Canadian cons so far, and I was told Katsu and Ota were the big ones people pulled out their best work for. That sound right?

Also, how safe is the party scene? I'm a 4ft 11 girl, and really kind of a push over, but I'd like to actually socialize a little while I'm down.

Otakon definitely isn't the place for people to bring their best work. It's just too hot and packed. I've been going for a long time and I can't say I've been super impressed. Not sure about the party scene, someone else can probably help you there.
