I splurged on bioelements this week, some anti aging, firming serum, and eye refiner. My friend let me try her sensitive skin bioelements face wash and it uses lots of nice oils, it cleansed and my my face feel soft immediately.
The face wash I have currently, and I'm waiting to use it all up to get a new one, is b.liv squeaky clean. It has small beads which help my Tzone but dry out my cheeks as I have combination skin. smells of mint, I love the smell, but going to be switching to bioelements after I finish all my b.liv products

I like using Philosophy's clear days ahead when I break out but it dries my face out a lot, so I've been thinking about trying Body Shop's tea tree line instead. Besides that I really like Shiseido's "foaming cleansing fluid" from their Pureness line. It makes my skin feel super soft and doesn't dry it out.

Anon who just got the Konjec sponges hear. I have eczema so I have been using the dark red one.
THEY ARE THE SHIT. It has been 3 days so maybe I should wait a bit before I praise it but, my skin looks amazing, my pores are clear, and even my broken capillaries are behaving themselves.
I had a little eczema or pimple break out starting on one of my cheeks(I can never tell the difference when they first start to get red.) and it too, is suddenly behaving its damn self.
Very happy.

For cleanser, I usually use Skinfood's Honey Black Tea Cleansing Milk, and love it because it is one of the only cleaners I have tried that does not anger my eczema.

If it's the little plastic micro-pellets, that shit is fucking up waterways and ecosystems. They're too small to be caught by regular water treatment, so they end up in the water and it plays havoc all over.

There are scrubs with natural exfoliating bits, like crushed apricot seed, stuff that will degrade long after it's rinsed off.

Plastic pellets in everything is a trend. It's in some types of toothpaste just for looks. Shit gets imbedded in the gumline and messes people up.

Gull, chill, I said I was switching over to bioelements which doesn't have any of that shit in it, also im pretty sure the beads in b.liv dissolve. So, I've had this giant cystic pimple on my jawline for months. It used to be very deep, and it is very painful, but over the last few months it has slowly come up until it is this big, huge protrusion of a cyst. It is black and blue and bloody looking and would never come to a head, and finally the other day, it got close enough beneath my skin that I was able to lance it. I know squeezing is wrong but this this honestly hurts, so the past two days I've squeezed it twice a day, and every time, it's not pus that comes out, but it's very watery blood? It is also incredibly explosize, but I'm just assuming it is because of how deep lying it was, and how much preassure was needed for it to come up. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? Hello my fellow eczema-chan.
Ok, this is some general advice from what works for me. What works for me may not work for you. Always get samples and try them first.
DO NOT PUT A STEROID CREME ON YOUR FACE. It will thin out your skin and you will end up with broken capillaries like me.
My doctors always gave me a 'less potent' steroid for my face saying it would be fine, it is not. If it is really bad use it as a spot treatment but only a little bit and be careful.
You have to moisturize in every step of your skin care. If anything makes your skin feel even a bit 'tight' or 'dry' chuck that shit.
For body, I use Lush's Rock Star soap. I got a sample and thought it would fuck me up but it proved to be an easier way to get coconut oil on my skin, and helps PREVENT me from eczema break outs.
If you are having a break out, I would start with just coconut oil.
It is a solid, warm it up a bit and put some in a spray bottle. Apply it liberally at the end of a shower, work it into all the crusty nasty places. Let it soak in for 5ish min then rinse it off.
For a face wash I use Skinfood's Honey Black Tea Cleansing Milk. It does not sting at all even if I am in eczema hell.
Etude House's Moistfull Collagen cream has been good for me as a moisturizer. It is very scented, I would not try it if it is a trigger for you.
If you do use makeup, I mix my cream with my BB cream, use wet brushes, basically do everything you can to get moisture into the skin at every step.

They are a quick fix that actually makes your pores worse in the long term. Get a good cleanser (cleansing oil followed by secondary foam cleanser is pretty standard) to keep them less gunky and moisturize to keep your skin happy. Add in other things if you want, slowly, to address your specific skin needs and the appearance of pores (among other things) will improve in time with a good routine. Skin improves slowly, especially when you're throwing new stuff at it since it has to settle and adjust.

Pat it onto your skin with your fingers. Honestly, it shouldn't really matter since you generally should be using a retinol in your evening routine, and then moisturizer soon afterwards. (15-30 minutes.)

>>8288225
Get an oil that's high in Linoleic acid or Gama Linoleic acid! I have recommended this in past skincare threads to others dealing with redness. I highly recommend Hemp seed oil, as it's very unlikely to break you out, and it's high in linoleic acid that should reduce and calm redness. Other oils are Safflower, Sunflower, Borage, Passionfruit and Evening Primrose oil.

Putting a thin layer on as your last step in your routine should help, right after your moisturizer. I'd recommend getting a sample size, seeing if you like it, and then a large bottle. Hemp seed oil goes bad quickly, so it has to be kept refrigerated. If you got a sample, you probably wouldn't have to do that, though, until you get a larger bottle.

I would like to say something about eczema. I haven't had a bad breakout in a long time, meaning almost a year, because I have been using St. Ives Oatmeal and Shae Butter lotion. This has an active in grediant called Urea which is a natural antiinflamintory. This is 100x more safe than using any steroid creme the doctor gives you. For bad breakouts, itll take about two days to start cealring up. For moderate breakouts, one day is enough to really tone down the itching and redness and itll stat going away. The application on sever eczema will hurt just liike any steroid, but itll soothe much faster.

Like with the steroid cremes, please apply at night when you are going to sleep or during the day when you are able to wear loose fitting clothes so that the lotion is able to take proper effect. I swear by St. Ives for my eczema. I also use Ponds facial lotion for my face and it helps with any sensitive skin on my face due to eczema. It also conatains urea. I don't use ANYTHING that doesn't contain it.

Make sure you always check your ingrediants for it when buying lotions and makeup products. It is okay to buy things without it, but if you want to keep your eczema in check, please try out the St. Ives Oatmean and Shae Butter. It goes a long way as well if you get the giant bottle of it. One bottle for my whole body [not face] lasts me about 2 months. 3 if I feel okay enough to not use it every day, but instead 3/4 times a week. Its works so well that I don't need to worry about inflammation happening because its so good at preventing it.

Throwing a word in for Dr. Gross alpha beta peels. I impulse bought one from Sephora's and used it just for kicks and it's worked super well so far. I have a lot of scarring on the sides of my face because I tend to break out there the most, and after a week its evened out my skin tone a ton. It definitely stings a bit, and I used it too rigorously (I thought it said am AND pm, not or) but it definitely gave me results I haven't had with a lot of other skincare routines.

I have dry sensitive skin and it worked fine for me. Dunno how it'll work on others, but it seems to have generally very good reviews, so it might be worth a shot.

>comedogenic
Not that anon, but this is what a quick google search of the term came up with.
>The terms "non-comedogenic" and "non-acne(i)genic" appeared on moisturizers and other cosmetic compounds as manufacturers introduced re-formulations - sometimes associated with claims that the products were "oil-free" or "water-based". Although early work produced lists of comedogenic chemicals in various strengths and vehicles, it became apparent that one could not predict the actual comedogenicity of a product from its contents; rather the finished product itself needed use-testing.
Basically, because not everyone has the same skin, the term is buzz word bullshit.

>> No.8303203

>>8303137
Yes, thank you for essentially pointing out that everybody's skin is different. By gods, I think we've reached a medical breakthrough.

But, you CAN measure certain products comedogenicity. It isn't an end-all, but it's not necessarily something that is simply a buzzword like "toxin".

Some brands label things that may simple irritate the skin as comedogenic, or thinks that dilate pores. Or even medical tests done on rabbit ears and humans can help determine how often a certain product would make somebody break out-- it's purely anecdotal, sure, but it's still helpful information to at least make a hypothesis about how helpful said product would be for human skin. People with sensitive, acneic skin would want to know what products can often cause breakouts in people, so I see no reason to not use comedogenic as a way to say, "Hey, a lot of people say this breaks them out."

Then, there are things that are generally non-comedogenic. Like petrolatum based products, they generally do not break people out, which is why mineral oil is so highly recommended for a beginner's oil cleansing.

Comedogenicity is mostly measured by anecdotal evidence and tests, and while is not a completely accurate way to measure, is still a perfectly fine way to explain what the chance of breaking out from a certain product is. Again, if somebody has very acneic skin, do you think they would choose a product that had broken out a lot of people, or would they rather go with one that that has a far less chance? Plenty of people would enjoy to know that tidbit of information.

tl;dr Most people recognize comedogenicity ratings are not 100% accurate, or the only thing to determine whether something will break you out or not, and that everybody's skin is different. This does not mean comedogenicity ratings are pure buzzwords, as they are helpful to determine what in a product could be breaking you out in the first place.

How often do you wash your bedsheets?

>> No.8306392

My current skin routine is usually:

Wash face + moisturize in morning
Wash face again at night (With exfoliating soap about once a week, rest of the week with cetaphil)
Apply toner
Wipe down with salicylic pad if skin is particularly bad, apply general acne cream

But I still get lots of greenish discoloration (naturally olive toned), and comodonal acne. Does anyone have suggestions?

>> No.8306412

>>8306392
I'd tone down on washing only once a day, with splashing water in the morning.

By exfoliating soap, do you mean a scrub? Tbh, over a scrub 1x weekly, I'd also recommend a konjac sponge, they're gentle enough to use daily and are fantastic exfoliation for the skin, since they have a very soft, gel-like sponge texture. I can't praise these things enough.

The BHA pads I'd also say to use nightly, instead of solely when you're breaking out, as the salicylic acid is preventative as well. It should help with comedones, unless your skin is very dry or dehydrated, then I'd only say it should be done every other day or so. Just my 2 cents, anon!

I'm assuming the Stridex could've been an issue with the alcohol, unless you have a sensitivity to salicylic acid.

You need an overhaul. Cetaphil won't be doing a lot for you because it's too alkaline, which could be contributing to your acne. It's also fine for cleansing sensitive skin but there's no actual active ingredients in it. Also make sure that your toner and pads don't have alcohol in them (or only a very small amount). If your exfoliant has micro beads consider switching to a chemical exfoliant. A konjac sponge would help too. I don't know what would fix the greenish discoloration but I would get something brightening, like something with vitamin C, or something like Benton Snail Bee essence.

I use an old epilator (Philips Satinelle Ice Premium, I've recommended it here a few times) on my body, it has an ice pack you can attach onto the machine to make it hurt less. It's good stuff but I've had it for so long it's running out of its juice. The ice pack is forever though, so I can still use that with other models.

In my experience if you're gonna use an epilator, get one with a rechargeable battery. Manoeuvring the thing to keep the cord away is a bit of a hassle tbh, and I don't like that I'm restricted to several places with accessible sockets, one of which involves heavy acrobatics to reach all the hairy bits.

In my experience my hair has been growing quite a bit thinner and sparser with plucking and epilating, but it can get frustrating because it does hurt a bit. My pain tolerance is out of this world though, and I've had a go at my fanny with it which turned out fine, so it might be more painful for you.

For my face I use either wax strips (muttonchops and the side of my face mostly) or the epistick spring device thing. You can get it for a euro on ebay.

The idea that mineral oil clogs pores came from rabbit studies in the 1970s, but when the same tests were done to humans it wasn't the case.

A lot of times the bad reactions to mineral oil is due to additives like fragrances. That's why I recommend wood oil (mineral oil that is intended for use on cutting boards, with zero fragrances that may affect the taste of food).

Also, oil-cleansing usually is followed by another cleanser to clear away that oil. This is called double-cleansing in Asian skincare.

>Vitamin E Cream- I put this onto my red blemishes and it really helps soothe them.
>Rose hip oil- I've been using this for about a week, and my skin is so much softer. I normally massage a few drops onto my face after I shower.
>Konjac sponge - I don't use this too often, but it's more effective and less damaging on my skin than a face scrub.
>Witch-hazel toner- a new addition to my routine thanks to /cgl. This one is a little drying because I wasn't able to find an alcohol free version, but it still works well on my problem areas.

I also suggest you avoid excessive hot water on your face and drink lots of water. I know it's mentioned in every thread, but they can make a huge difference.

You really don't want to get a treatment without a moisturizer because it will make your skin incredibly dry, possibly flakey.

I generally see MUAC recommended for peels-- they have a rather wide variety. Most of their peels seem to have a 12-18 month shelf life, but it might change accordingly. The shelf life is listed on the page, so just check and be sure.

And definitely, definitely research the percentages, and aftercare. You don't want to burn your face off.

Moisturizer is important for a skin routine, anon. Even if your skin feels "oily", using a moisturizer will not make it any more oily. Especially if patches on your face are dry and flakey while others are oily, you could have dehydrated skin.

Dehydrated skin is usually oily in spots, and dry in others. If you were to hydrate your skin, it would fix both the oiliness and the dryness as well, because dehydrated skin generally produces excess oil to make up for the fact that it isn't hydrated enough.

Also do not recommend any of Lush's products, they're generally loaded with irritants via fragrance.

Most likely due to it getting onto your skin. Even if you don't get a ton of foamy toothpaste on your lips, you could probably small traces of it on your skin.

It could also be from bacterial in your nose, perhaps. I've seen a personal account from somebody on /r/skincareaddiction (say what you want about Reddit, but that subreddit is very helpful.) who put Triple Antibiotic Ointment in their nostrils via cotton swap essentially stopped their acne due to certain bacteria cultivating in their nose. Alright, to have a decent skincare routine that primarily focuses on minimize wrinkles, you need:

• A cleanser. Foaming or gentle is dependent on your personal preference since you didn't specify you had dry or oily skin.
• A moisturizer. Good moisturizing and hydrated skin won't wrinkle as much. You could probably just use a light one, or an oil if you know of one that doesn't break you out.
• Sunscreen. Definitely. Need sunscreen, sunspots and fine lines will be super present if you don't and spend a decent amount of time in the sun. Try an Asian brand-- they generally have no shitty white casts, and have higher SPF/PA ratings than U.S ones. Biore comes to mind.
• A vitamin C serum. This should come after the other three, imo. It's very good for getting brighter skin and preventing wrinkles.
• Retinols are also good at minimizing wrinkles, but they can cause purging and might have a period in which you will break out purely because of it.

Honestly, you should get sunscreen first if you don't have it. Then a cleanser, then moisturizer. Then try out other methods of minimizing wrinkles after you have the foundations set.

I've been using those two since this past Monday, and I've already noticed a visible difference in my skin that regular physical exfoliants weren't producing.

I'd also like to know if anyone has a good routine for this... I always end up breaking out after but I have so much hair it's also bad if I don't get rid of it.
I usually wash my face before I wax and then apply aloe vera gel on the area right after I've waxed.

Please no. Anything akin to the Biore strips are shit, they just make the problem worse in the long run while temporarily making it better.

If you exfoliate at all, try to cut down on it for a few days just in case your skin's barrier has been fucked up by it. Moisturize plenty, and vaseline/aquaphor (at night, or whenever you want.) along the crease of your nose could help plenty if it's irritation.

If it continues, and seriously bothers you and have no way to cover it up via makeup, I'd suggest heading to a dermatologist.

>>8331172
There's many, many different forms of toner, anon. Toner is a very loose term, really. Witch Hazel is just a very common ingredient in American toners due to it being astringent and anti-inflammatory.Asian toners generally have a much wider variety, ranging from slightly astringent American-esque toners, to ones that more focus on light moisturizing.

I'd definitely suggest Thayer's (alcohol-free) witch hazel toner for an American toner.

>>8281426
>>8331937
While I haven't necessarily waxed before, I've heard many people suggest applying a BHA/salicylic acid to the waxed area afterwards to help prevent break outs. Then, after letting that sit for a while, moisturize well. (Probably more than just Aloe Vera gel.) I do pluck my eyebrows and get whiteheads from that sometimes, and a BHA generally seems to do the trick.

Or, perhaps if you know that Tea Tree oil responds well with your skin (helps acne go away, doesn't burn, etc) you could mix a drop or two into your Aloe Vera gel and see if that helps. (I wouldn't put it into the entire container, but move some into a smaller one so that you don't ruin the entire bottle if it doesn't work. And so that it gets diluted enough as well.)

I love Cerave foaming! My sis is using the hydrating kind and the Cerave pm so I got to try those too, I really like the lotion.

My skin isn't perfect but its loads better then it ever has been. I read up a lot and am incorporating a number of actives, using western products in a multi-step koreakl style routine. Here's what I'm using:

Oil cleanse with mineral oil
Cerave foaming
Alpha Hydrox 14% Intensive Glycolic Acid serum (every two nights)
(wait 15 minutes)
Paula's Choice BHA Liquid
(wait 20 mins)
Nufountain Celsignal MAP-based Vit-C serum
Ponds b5 niacinamide face lotion

Unfortunately I keep making the mistake of assuming 'my skin is nice now I don't need all this' (because it is time consuming) so I start slacking and them my skin goes to junk. I'm realizing I'm never gonna have effortlessly nice skin. This routine is helping a lot though, I'm still adding on to it. Shopping around for a new sunscreen, hoping to get more actual Asian-skincare incorporated into my routine. Whats holding me back is how expensive a good routine can be! Pretty much whenever you say you don't want to tan there's always someone who is going to prod you with questions because 'why??? are you implying YOU HATE DARK SKIN???' and you always have to add a million disclaimers saying how 'not that there's anything wrong with being tanned!' or 'not that I hate how it looks but' as if that isn't a fucking given.

If you don't advise people to wear sunscreen on their fucking tongue indoors then you get downvoted. If you even mention that you don't need sunscreen all the time you get downvoted.

Both are annoying with their constant karmabaiting and '#TeamDoubleFisting xD Look, x from y is wearing a sheet mask! OMG one of us!'

So since I've been home from uni, I've had more time and availability to have a consistent routine.

I have started to wash my face twice a day now, once when I wake up, and once before I sleep. I exfoliate once a week. I've also been putting on an avocado face mask usually about everyday and afterwards finishing up with salicylic acid and then moisturizer.

At first, my skin was improving, there was little to no redness and no bumps all over my face, but this certain area started to get worse over time. It's starting to get bumpy again, but now it's worse because my skin is crusting up and peeling off and causing scab-type things. It hurts to barely touch this area (pic related) because it's so wounded.

What should I do? I dont want to cut out my salicylic acid because it was working at first. I don't really know the main cause of it because the rest of my face is improving but this area isn't. I've washed my pillowcases and I never touch my face either.

(also are those little hairs on my cheeks normal, if not what should i do about it? it's not really a big problem compared to my acne atm)

>> No.8341131

>>8341125
The cheek hairs are normal.

Maybe you are doing too much to your face? Scale back the routine for a few weeks. Maybe cut out the face mask and exfoliation. Sometimes your skin will improve and then freak out because you are going too harsh at it. You want to ease up a bit when it is like your photo otherwise you could end up with acne scarring.

>> No.8341134

>>8341125
>also are those little hairs on my cheeks normal
Yes anon, they're vellus hairs and everyone has them. Some really insecure people shave them, or those who have problems with foundation, but I think it's unnecessary.

>> No.8341140

>>8341125
I'm gonna ask some things, some are obvious to the point of being annoying but I think I better aks anyway
>do you sleep on side?
>how often do you change your pillowcase?
>How much water do you drink? If you cant remember then what you drink yesterday and today should say a lot.
>Cutting back on sugar?

And the hairs are on everyone, I think they're called peachfuzz.

>> No.8341155

>>8341125
Drink a lot of water and avoid processed/junk food for a while. For what's there now, try hydrocolloid pads (like squishy bandages, usually can get them in the burn/bandage area) and change them about every 12 hours until that area calms down.

>> No.8341156

>>8341125
Don't introduce all products to your skin at once. Start slow, and test each out for at least a week until you start using it regularly to check if it's breaking you out. It's very difficult to find out what's causing you trouble when you start doing everything at once, and it may be too much for your skin to adapt to.

Get a face wash with a pH between 3 and 5,6. 5,6ish is considered the normal skin pH and whilst 7 is neutral (pH of water), it could still be drying your skin out. SebaMed products all have a pH of 5.5 iirc, and have a good Clear Face foaming cleanser for acne-prone skin, if you like.

Use a moisturiser that isn't too greasy, perhaps a gel would work. Try some acne treatments like LRP's Effaclar if nothing helps, or preferably see a dermatologist. However, I'd suggest going on accutane as a last resort.

This was the only thing I could think of and was going to start doing, I just didn't know if it was going to be a bad idea to cut out exfoliating since there is so much dry skin there.

>>8341134
I figured they were normal but I didnt realize how much and how high up they were until I took that picture. I don't think I'll be shaving them because they're not too noticable, but they are pretty noticeable on my nose so I might do something about that.

I've been washing my pillowcases and been planning to actually get new sheets this upcoming weekend. And I should cut down on sugar I have been emotionally eating quite a bit lately ;~;

>>8341155
Wow, I've never heard of using hydrocolloid pads, this seems like a good idea to try, thank you!

>>8341156
I've been using the same fashwash I used at my uni, just more routinely. I figured switching routines so fast could also be the problem, but I had worse skin in uni so I didn't think changing my routine so fast would be horrible. It still doesnt explain the fact that the rest of my face is improving except for that one area.

I've always been interested in getting a certain pH balanced facewash but never knew what to get. Thanks for clearing it up for me, I'll try to get a SebaMed wash soon, it sounds like a good product.

As for the acne treatments, I'll look into that as well. I've been Paula's choice 2% BHA liquid, and although I think this is the stuff that's really helping my redness, I don't think it's helping with my acne. It's listed that it has sascylic acid in it, but it doesn't say how much... I'm assuming it's a small amount though.

Read up on ingredients in skin care, anon. By knowing what ingredients do what, you can find something that works for your skin.

You can tell what type of skin you have through looking closely at it in a mirror. If you have white flakes all over, it's dry. If it's normal, it's normal. If it easily becomes oily and fat, it's oily. If you have two of the above, it's combination. There's also sensitive skin, which becomes red and irritated easily.
