Prime it. Gesso or wood glue. Gesso requires more layers and lots of sanding. Wood glue uses about 4 layers and no sanding. Nice and smooth and shiny too.
To get rid of bubbles heat it up, pin prick it and smooth it outwards

You can blend it together. If you heat it up enough you can even squish it all together and use it like clay but a clay that has to be reheated every few seconds and burns your fingers.

These people in this thread are just shit at using it. It Is very very flexible when heated, and when cooled holds it shape well and is hard. Its a thin plastic, so imagine the flexibility of... Say the same material as a credit card.
The reason why that person's looks fabric like and floppy is because they haven't shaped it very well or evenly, clearly just with their hands, meaning when it cools, which is quite quickly, it will keep that shape.

This. I've been building props for 7 years and I have a lot of experience with making them, and I cringe whenever someone buys a bunch of worbla and outright wastes them all on a shitty looking prop that shouldn't be made out of worbla in the first place. It doesn't make the prop look better, it looks like a molten piece of diarrhea. To add to it the fact that worbla is also expensive as fuck you just wasted a bunch of money. People rarely know how to use it and don't realize that you need to seal the surface and support it from the back to make it look good and sturdy. If I got a dollar from every overheated piece of worbla, I'd be rich enough to buy the whole business. Or afford a jumbo sheet. Because it's so damn expensive.

Kamui is pretty damn talented by now but I seriously dislike how worbla-only she's become. Simple, geometric elements of armor that don't need to be flexible at all (like horns, ornaments, etc) could be substituted well with different types foam, paper mache or card stock coated in resin. Yeah, resin is also expensive, and there is also curing time, but you need a lot less of it to cover a shit ton of armor versus what a single sheet of worbla makes. Given they both need to be primed, I really don't see a reason to give up other types of materials.

What always amuses me is that she hasn't been able to sew a mitred corner in years. In a lot of her WoW costumes she modifies the designs to avoid full sets of armor, claiming she likes the artistic versions of them better. This pretty much boils the sets down to boob plates and shoulders.

It saddens me that this is considered "rare"

It's rare for cosfamous people. Not the casual cosplayers.

Worbla always looks like shit. It's literally plastic mixed with flour. It does look like cardboard. Foam looks 100 times better.

That's the problem with this material. It fuckin melts and rips apart.

>> No.8306722

>>8306629
No, it always looks shitty. Only good paintwork and overworking to cover the grainy texture could make it look decent. Is not worth to spend a shitload of lot of money in a material if you have to work on it as much as if you use free cardboard or cheap foam. Ridiculous.

>> No.8306732

>>8306722
Yeah but Worbla's good for round surfaces. Foam can.. sorta do that, but it's difficult to get a hard curve to stay. Cardboard is out of the question.

This is really not a good thread to be discussing this.

I'd say make a basic gauntlet first, shape is easy enough and you can add your own personal touch to it after the basic shape is done

Foam, especially something like high density EVA, only looks cheap if it isn't finished well, and that's the case for most basic materials (bar sintra which even unprimed can look great for some specific projects). Worbla looks even cheaper than foam does with nothing done to it and needs even more effort to not look cheap.

All three of my foam armor cosplays have ended up in the trash after like two/three wears because they've become damaged beyond repair. If you're going to a busy con where assholes are constantly walking into you and touching your shit, it doesn't last. And don't try and tell me it's just poor construction, I've been using foam for around 5 years, it's just not a long-term use material. Yeah, worbla isn't great but it's at least stronger. There's even better materials to use than EITHER of those.

Hey Gals and Guys here.
I'm a Male, Obese German Fatblob and i want to cosplay something cool.

Well i saw this Worbla horrorthread and thought "Maybe i should ask someone here."

The thing is: I never cosplayed. I always wanted to but almost all the stuff i like isn't made for my bodytype and i won't start cosplaying shit i'm not okay with. I hate these obese Naruto girls that smooch arround all day and waving with their "YAOI" Woodpaddles... it's just a big (fat) disgrace for the character. (I'm not into Naruto but just imagine the Inventor see's that shit)
Nevermind back to topic:

I have almost no Experience with Cosplay.
And Worbla. And all this other stuff.
But there is a little dream inside my Buttercoatet heart.

The Catarina Armor from Dark Souls.
Not only do i love the sad story and lore about the character who wear this, no, i like this Silly and yet awesome design. And it wouldn't look like shit on me, even tho i'm a fat piece of shit.

I have about 150-200 Euro per month and a time limit until Mid September (I want to debut @ the Connichi 2015).

I want to use Worbla and uhm .. Thin EVA Plates/Mossrubber (It's called Moosgummi here in germany and i'm not at the educated side so i don't know the term for the material. in english sorry)
Can i make it ? What is your Honest Opinion? Is there something i should remember while i build the armor ?

Pic related: My Cosplay-dream i want to archieve.
thank you for wasting your precious time reading my offtopic post.

have you ever even worked with these materials? If not then I don't think you should be building a full suit of armor for your first cosplay. It will end up being an expensive piece of garbage.

We aren't discouraging you to be mean or anything, but if you're not an overly talented artist, you should not pursue this project as your first.

Since you have money, I'd recommend that you commission from a trustworthy propmaker. Remember that you'll have to pay for labor costs as well.
