I didn't see one in the catalogue and I don't remember seeing one for a while so I though I'd start one.

Let's share places to buy, cute finds and trends, and outfit inspo.

I've been in love with cute school uniforms since I was a teen, but now that I'm 22, and having graduated school a few years ago, I'm worried I'm too old to wear them and that it would be weird. I still am in love with the look though. I'm curious what everyone thinks about wearing this stuff once you start getting "older." Is it considered creepy or trying-too-hard? What about girls in Japan, do they stop wearing it after they get out of school, continue to wear it for a year or two after they graduate, or do they keep wearing it even longer than that?

>> No.8264753

I'm currently living in Japan, are there any brick and mortar stores apart from Conomi that sell non-costume serafuku? I know Donki and Bodyline sell them but bodyline will be cheap quality and donki probably will be too.. I can't order online at the moment.

>>8264285
I think it depends on how young you look as well as what sort of style you want to wear it as. 22 isn't that old to me as I'm slightly older.

Is this crazy or no? I was thinking about wearing a nanchatte sefuku to work if it would be allowed. I never got a chance to dress like that back when I was actually in school but I always wanted to, so I thought having a work "uniform" might be fun.

I know a while back it was pretty popular for girls who had already graduated (even by a couple years) to wear uniforms together just to hang out. Just like there was a trend of going to Disney in groups, all wearing uniforms.

Hell, you'll see 20+ year old gyarus (not the school age kogyaru) wearing school uniforms to events and around Halloween and stuff so I think once you hit a certain point you just see it as a costume. Kind of like how women here will wear Catholic school uniforms to costume parties and on Halloween.

So it sounds like it's acceptable then for wearing casually and to events, but it will look costumy if you don't look like you're still young enough to be in school? I always thought I looked older than my age, but I'm still getting comments from people who can't believe I'm not still in school, so apparently I look younger than I am to some people so maybe I am at an advantage to get away with wearing it.

It's not that I want to look like I'm still in school, I just really adore the way the clothes look, it's so smart but still cute and put together and I have a huge crush on sailor themed stuff on top of it.

I wish I could have worn the look while I was actually in school. I would have been allowed to but to be really honest my life during high school was an absolute nightmare and I was going through some terrible things at the time. It feels like I missed out on a big part of my life by not having a "high school experience."

According to a few people in the Bodyline thread, most of their separate skirts are actually decent quality and comparable to what you'd find at a regular clothing store, and I've seen a few reviews that have said a few of their ribbon ties are surprisingly only a little cheaper than what you'd find at Conomi.
I was planning on ordering a ribbon tie and a skirt from them because their prices are cheap and I have to order online, so I hope what I heard is true.

I wear seifuku almost full-time, even to my job. There's no law that says you have to be a certain age to wear schoolgirl-like clothing, simply because college and above does not require them. I don't know how common it is in Japan, but I have two Japanese conversation partners and they've never thought it was weird I dressed like this, and said the outfit was extremely cute. Treat it like you would any other style- see what fits you well and figure out what coordinate looks best. and if someone thinks you're strange for just wearing a pleated skirt and blouse? who cares, honestly? I was shy about wearing it at first but now it's a part of who i am. I absolutely love customizing my uniform every year without having to be in high school.

Keep in mind that most Japanese will not tell you to your face that you look like a weirdo though, even if that's what they really thought.

How do other people react to it? Like your coworkers? I'm pretty intrigued.

When I was thinking about getting into the fashion, like you, I was looking online to see if anybody else followed the seifuku trend. I came across this article about university students in their 20's wearing it somewhat regularly:

http://asianbeat.com/en/jjj/jjj004.html

“I always wanted to wear it to school when I was in high school, but I couldn’t then so I’m doing it now.”

So i thought, if they can do it, why can't i? i'm still a uni student, but I plan on wearing uniforms for as long as it makes me feel cute. : )

As far as an actual work uniform, though, I think it would really depend on how relaxed your job is on dress codes. All the places I've worked at were very business casual, so anything modest was fine.

Thanks for your thoughts. I was a bit worried about what people would think and if I'd look like a weeb for doing it, but it's cute and most people probably won't even recognize it as "school-girl uniform" since I'm from America. I think I am going to try it, of course I have to find out if it' allowed first, but even if it isn't I think I'll get an outfit or two for casual wear and for days when I might need to look a little dressed up.

Bodyline anon #2 here! I apologize in advance for multiple posts and wrinkled stuff.

Ok so first off I don't really recommend the sets that come with shirts. The shirts are made of super thin material and the sleeves are snug. So get a size up if you insist, also the button holes are shit and the thread comes undone easily.

I've noticed there are two different quality skirts. First off are these, the fabric is a bit scratchy, the clasps feel weak and are not adjustable, and there are no pockets. They do have elastic in the waist though. Overall they are still worth like the $10 they cost as they haven't fallen apart despite how much I wear them!

Next is the nicer shit. I absolutely love these skirts I have 6 of them right now. I have just under a 25" waist and the waist band clasps are adjustable enough to where I can fit in a M comfortably or a 2L! The nicer skirts like these I believe are any set that is skirt only or skirt with a matching bow. They have a huge pocket too!

Lastly is mostly a toktok review. I'm in love with these bows, they're essentially the same as a bow tie but patterned for women. They are soft and keep a lovely shape in comparison to bodylines which I find the fabric they used for the skirt to be stiff and doesn't keep as well a shape in bow form. They also ship fast and aren't that pricey! 10/10 highly recommend.

I like it being paired with sneakers a lot actually, it looks more casual and reminds me more of the schools I went to because everyone wore sneakers until high school (almost every girl seemed to wear dressy shoes and heels everyday through high school).

This isn't much different than the normal look, but I see less cords done with sweater vests and men's style ties.

I thought I'd ask in this thread instead of the Bodyline one since this is about the school uniform skirts specifically, how much does the waistband adjust on Bodyline's skirts, and do the measurements actually count the adjustable waist? (for example, if the size is 66-70, is that the size range the waistband adjusts to?)

I'm weirdly in between sizes so I'm having trouble figuring out which size I should get. I don't want to go for the smaller one and have it end up being too small, but I also don't want to get the bigger one and find it's huge and I can't adjust it smaller.

Milanoo. Lol. I wanted a cheap one. I weeded through tons on there to find one made out of good materials and finally found this one. Super comfortable and school uniform material is on point. Ive attended private schools all my life and this is exactly what they are made out of. Only problem I had was that the side zipper on the skirt and shirt broke almost instantly and had to go to a tailor and pay to have them fixed with new ones. The zippers were super crappy. Thats really the only thing.

I remember back when I first got my uniform, I was pissed that we had knee-length ones since they made me look boxy. And I couldn't tie a tie so I always had go ask my host dad.
Although during club times we could loosen our tie and un-tuck our shirts and heeled loafers are pretty awesome too...

At my school we had woollen winter skirts and I can tell you for a fact, the length of it hardly made any difference to how warm you were. The majority of us wore tights when it was cold anyway and if not then we would be wearing bike shorts under our skirts. Even not in regards to school uniforms I have had many outfits with short skirts warming than ones with pants because you can add more layers, even if you have a few cm of thigh exposed.

For the sweaters I would honestly say look in consignment or charity shops. Whenever I go there's always cardis and sweater vests. We all pretty much used to wear the exact same shorts, like these but with a matte finish as that was just what parents brought us, they were not very cute but they were warm. we also used to wear just cute pyjama shorts underneath, although your could see them unless you lent over tables or something but in younger years we used to always show each other if we had really cute shorts on underneath. We also, and I'm pretty sure still do, have the trend of otks pushes down around the ankles to our legs look better so even in the winter half the time we would wear sheer tights with them because they looked better than black stocking. So sorry I don't really have any recommendations but if you have comfy pj shorts you like they work.

That only worked if you managed to keep dry, or warm up later. The sound of squishing shoes in the halls was pretty common in winter.
The school stupidly mandated the worst shoes, (mary-jane style, brilliant for slushy wet weather!), then you had no place to change from or keep wet overshoes if you wore them (or boots, heaven help you as the notes home would be unending from those administrators who saw you making an attempt to keep dry or warm).

It was simply a terrible policy decision on their part, allowing the students to wear wellies or overshoes then providing a simple area to store them would have been a simple change.

The worst part of the shoes themselves (other than actual leather soles for school shoes) was the thread that held the stupid things together would fall apart from the slush, and eventually you had shoes that looked like a vagrant's.

We joked that it was a conspiracy by the school with a local shop to clear it's old stock of hideously crap uniform shoes.

Only I just found out someone I know has a school uniform fetish.

I don't know what possessed me to do it but now I'm trying to make a cute uniform set to go with Nagisa from Free!'s varsity jacket. The jacket seems to change shades of pink depending on who you buy it from so I wanted a skirt with two shades of pink just in case the jacket was light pink or darker pink.

Why not go with brown shoes and a bluexpink bag to better match the bluexpink theme. You're going to use a white button up blouse right? What you need to look for is the ones specifically with that strap in the photo like also in >>8285695 the Bodyline photo will that will strap on the side of the waistband. This is important because the thinner/old ones of the plaid collection don't have those because the waistband has elastic to adjust. The newer/thicker ones don't have elastic so the strap adjusts it. I personally think it looks cute but would be more hesitant about wearing it that way where I live because it looks more like I'm trying to look like a real schoolgirl, whereas nowhere has a cardis and pleated skirts uniform so that's obviously a fashion choice.

Seconding this, I like plaid skirts but I'm picky about tartans and the two I have so far are too short. I'll try >>8283377's suggestion since I'd planned on wearing it under a longer jumper anyway, but I'd love to know where I can buy more.

>tfw have a tartan skirt I really love but it barely covers my butt in the back so I can't wear it, why
>don't like any of Bodyline's tartans

critique anons? I tried to do something casual but the plaid skirt looks too costume y to me. I usually prefer plaids because of the fabrics but I thought a bow-plaid skirt combo would look too flashy.

Pic related, I'm so desperate for the red sailor collar sweater! I think it could be styled really nicely.

Avril Lavigne did a line of school uniform inspired clothing one time. I don't like her or her music at all but some of the clothes were really cute. I owned a few things and I loved them. I grew out of them though, so now all I have left is the cheap clip on tie that came with my blouse, though it's handy for when I need to look professionally dressed since I don't own a real tie.

Here's a model that looks more mature but still wears the standard blouse + pleated skirt combo... i could see her wearing this to work, but would switch the over-the-knee socks with stockings, and then probably the loafers with a higher heel.

I do agree some tartans look costumey - especially the red ones. I ordered some skirts that had a low color contrast between the tartans lines (I got one in browns and another in monochrome grey)

usually high quality suit grade polyester or poly-cotton blend, far cry from the cheap stuff. Winter uniforms are sometimes wool blends.

It's almost like a hybrid? They feel like a smoother version of the plaid skirts, and because of that feel a little bit thinner but most likely aren't. They're a lot thicker than the seifuku skirts I've seen.

No no you are a great help! Does it have that same adjustable aspect like the plaid skirts? Also, since you mentioned they seem to be bit thinner, do they wrinkle/fold easily? I notice the plaid ones only do if you leave something sitting on it by accident. (I have the pink one.)

From what I understand they all have adjustable bands on them nowadays.
I only ever wear mine and then hang them up straight away so I can't really comment on the creasing, I haven't ever noticed any but I'm really overly careful with my skirts.

Anyone ever order this school bag w/ adjustable straps from lawrarashop? I love the layout of japanese high school bags, with their spacious pockets for books and folders, plus it's so easy to decorate with charms & accessories. But I hate how short the straps are! I have a synthetic leather school bag from arconomi and while the construction is *fantastic*, carrying it around is so uncomfortable...
