Strega is pretty much interchangeable with "dark mori" except that the name is meant to disentangle it from "j-fashion" and take it back to a western/Euro origin courtesy of girls on tumblr who didn't want to follow "rules" (j-fashions always have rules).

I would agree with you, but the culture of /fa/ makes it impossible to discuss fashion outside of whatever their current trends are.

I disagree, but I am struggling to explain why. I guess the best thing to say is the "feel" is differeny. But then again, that is what people who wear otome kei tell lolitas. Maybe it's the fabric. From what I have seen of both, mori girl tends to use ligher fabrics to make layering easier. While strega uses a lot heavier fabrics in darker colors. When I see "dark mori girl" it still has the lighter fabrics and the fabric flows/moves more than that is typically used in strega

No no, you're right, it does go that way frequently. But, as tumblr as it sounds, I like that people have their own flare to put on goth (when it isn't cringey ofc) but it is true that just because you like to wear it, it doesn't mean it looks good or flattering on you. It also needs to be shown that other than a staple feature of the color black, there aren't really rules to goth. Its your style, make it what you want it to be. People hopefully find their happy medium before age 20....hopefully.

The point of mori is to look like a "Scandinavian forest girl" as filtered through a Japanese conception of what that is (so there is a slight fantasy element to it). Handmade, knits, natural fibers, wool, generally light colors that remind you of snow, some storybook and woodland creature elements. Very rarely you see dark mori coming out of Japan but that doesn't sync with the faux-scandinavian part so it's uncommon. (Supposedly there are "mountain" and "swamp" substyles of mori but they didn't catch on like the "forest" style did so you never really see them.)

The point of strega is to look like a witch, and most of the people actively participating in the fashion (at least on tumblr) are American or European, so there is still some romanticizing/fantasizing going on but it's a little bit more practical. You still have a lot of layering and knitwear, and a darker color scheme. So the two styles can overlap (witches can live in the forest too) but the source is different.

>> No.8233882

>>8233872
Arguably she is one of a couple sources for it, and I understand that's kind of a dodgy start for a fashion, but there are enough people doing it now that it definitely exists. I know there are at least two girls that "started" strega on tumblr because I remember seeing them post passive-aggressively about each other because they both wanted credit for the term, but I don't remember the other girl's name.

>Supposedly there are "mountain" and "swamp" substyles of mori but they didn't catch on like the "forest" style did so you never really see them.
"Mountain" is yama girl, which has almost no relation to mori fashion and is an outdoors lifestyle hobby sort of thing. "Swamp" is numa girl, an inside joke with Japanese mori girls who didn't feel "pure" enough for the style based on on the mori girl checklist. They'd talk about dirty things in their community but dressed pretty much identical to any other mori girl.

Use of darker colors in mori does (did; the fashion in itself is basically dead) happen in Japan, but mori doesn't really have substyles the way people expect it to so you'd never see it called anything specific. I don't mind strega being separate because most of it looks ugly to me and is, like you said, based more heavily on a witchy aesthetic than mori is meant to be.

Honestly most of this stuff isn't very new or progressive, black layered shit has been the go-to for 'high-fashion' people for years now, look at high-end designers and models walking around the street and you'll see most of these looks, if maybe a bit more 'normal' with jeans.

I don't think you understand the difference between fashion and clothes. Fashion is what is popular to the general masses, be it clothing, electronics, tech, brands etc. See also 'trend'.

Lolita isn't a trend or in fashion, so no, it doesn't belong on /fa/. It has its own trends within its lolita catagory that are fashionable to those who subscribe to it, but it is not fashion. If there was a board for clothes then it would belong there but funnily enough there is a board called /cgl/ - Cosplay & EGL were it belongs...

General Jfash or altfash? Well by the above stated logic it doesn't belong on /fa/ either. It doesn't belong here. It doesn't belong anywhere. But really most people don't fucking care as most on this board might have an interest in other Jfash or altfash they might'nt mind. If you do mind, maybe be a big kid and don't impulsively click on this thread if it doesn't interest you.

This is very true. Unless you're just slightly chubby, or have an uneven weight distribution (say thin torso but huge hips that lolita would hide), no-one is gonna think a fat girl is thin. You can dress to make yourself look good, you can dress in clothes you like, but you can't dress to look thin.

fucking this. I am so sick of people trying to dress to make themselves look skinnier instead of dressing to make themselves look thei best, regardless of their body type. sometimes that means looking thinner, sometimes it doesn't. case in point: I am of the group that is "unevenly proportioned" you mentioned (big ish boobs; huugge butt/thighs; reasonably small middle) and a lot of the time I'm never going to be able to hide or disguise that. I CAN however select shapes and fits that smooth out my curves and make them actually look good, which is what matters. fatty chans aren't going to make themselves look thin, but they can make themselves look good. which in the end is what should matter

Oh. I nabbed a quick composite image instead of doing an image dump. Guess it accidentally ended up being corset-heavy, which is pretty unusual for h.Naoto.

Speaking from experience, h.Naoto favours stretch knit with screenprint on them, so there's a lot of t-shirt-like clothes with deconstructed details to choose from. For 8245164, the middle chick with feathers and a veil is in fact wearing a cutsew underneath. The girl one the bottom right, with the bowl cut hair, is most likely wearing something stretchy as well. Though of course, if you pick stretch knit dresses over corsets you probably won't get the nice silhoutte that >>8245581 pointed out.

None of this looks "strega" to me. The materials and cuts are either too modern or too Victorian.
If you want something strega like in Japanese fashion you have to look at Dark Red Rum and h.Naoto Gramm.
Most of that also looks a lot better and more witchy than actual strega. I think half of that fashion is just clothing made for overweight hippie grandmas worn by skinny young goths.

it definitely isn't "witchy goth" though, "witchy goth" is that kind of mid-90s crushed-velvet-and-pentagrams goth that EVERYONE is trying to move away from now. fashions like this are going to get called a lot of things--and there are going to be people who hate the term for it even once the title has been settled--but I really feel like "strega" is a perfectly fine name for it.

It captures the witchiness and removes the goth from the equation, which is necessary if you don't want losers to get confused and turn strega into the next hot topic fad

thrift stores are the best place to find stuff like this on the cheap. because you want intricate layering, don't be obsessed with the size of the clothes you find. look at tight/form fitting basic layers like leggings/tights and tank tops, and then various different loose black pieces for on top. a long open sweater, a baggy black or grey shirt. look for loose, flowing materials for the top half. try different combinations of materials to make the outfits more visually stimulating. don't forget the importance of accessorizing when wearing a fashion like this, it's super important to get your headwear and shoes looking good or you'll just look like a goth bag lady (which many pics in this thread do look like)

Bless your little hearts. It's nice to imagine that the tumblrettes latching onto this style and pretending they have something really unique going on got their ideas from gothic aesthetics from years gone by, but let's entertain the possibility that 'strega's' sudden surge in popularity just ~might~ have something to do with a show that was so popular on tumblr it spawned a site-wide meme and sparked new interest in a series that has very little else to offer. :^)

They literally call it 'witch fashion', grow a pair of ears already. Regardless of the actual roots of this fashion, tumblr is just copying their flavour of the month.

it mostly just means that you have a long philtrum and a short upturned nose, those details can't be fixed but you can minimize them by not using such big sunglasses that make your nose look even shorter. Then it's down to the hairstyle to minimize the width of your face.

But as far as makeup is concerned just make it less bold.

that's nice, but nobody asked you to.

please take a look around and realize that stuff like >>8255697 or >>8255706, while being great fits and perfectly ok for casual wear, are not what /cgl/ is about. it doesn't even have anything to do with the thread, which was already straining it.

if you absolutely have to post goof ninja, at least go for stuff like pic related.

I'm not vegan but I'm the rest of that, and honestly I wouldn't mind a definite term for it just so I can make a friend or two with the same interests as me, that isnt a shopkeeper to a store I frequent or my own boyfriend. Even just a pen pal to write letters to and do tarot readings for would be cool.

side note, I don't see why you couldnt just wear shorts and super light jackets or vests to get the look you want without dying in summer. loose tops with exposed leg gives a similar shape to what i see posted here, even thin tights under a lightweight dress could keep someone cool.

in all fairness this thread had already hit bump limit and was on page seven when i started dumping. i see nothing wrong with contributing potentially inspo-y shit when the thread's dying anyway.

>nobody asked you to

like seriously? if people only posted images (on an imageboard btw) when they were asked to there would be no decent content. worst case scenario you have to scroll past a few pictures to get back to the discussion, and maybe somebody sees one and likes it. it's not like i'm shitposting to image limit here.

Nothing like stream. Google "nu goth". It look a exactly like nu goth, and it's a fine outfit if that's what you're going for. I suggest changing the hair, not because I'm inherently anti-dyed hair but because your dye job doesn't look great, and getting differently-shaped sunglasses.
