This is /qa/ wishing /cgl/ a happy 9th birthday!

/cgl/ was born on April 8th, 2006~

You guys share a birthday with /ck/,/mu/, and /tv/ who were all created on the same day.

Be sure to stop by and wish them a happy birthday too if you can!

/qa/ and all of 4chan wish you guys a prosperous future and a big thank you for sticking around so long!

Personally I just wanted an alternative to the livejournal egl community, and it seemed like others did too. And when moot would put up boards specifically for cons he was going to i'd see a lot of cosplay talk there, so i figured a board mashing two clothing-centric things would be cool.

For a while during the boards trial it just turned into people shitposting about others in their communities though. I begged moot to take it down because it was just nothing but reported vendetta shit every hour.

I bet the early days of /cgl/ were nothing but Cardcaptor Will threads...

Been here since 2009 and began to trip in 2010. I've seen the board progress from a majority of threads being about cosplay to a majority of threads being about lolita. Met a number of good friends and run the #/cgl/ chatroom on IRC Rizon.

Shame Chris didn't meet up with Misako Aoki before retiring as Admin of 4chan.

I've been coming to 4chan since 2007.

I hate what /cgl/ has become, there are a lot less actually talented people posting now than back in the day when Volpin and Precious posted here, but it's still better than that awkward period where all the tripfags from Canada would circle jerk.

That is when I left /cgl/. Then I came back to /cgl/ and it is now lolita the board.

I feel like less people on here are actually making things in general, which is really sad because I used to come here for actual sewing advice. Now it's makeup, skincare, haircare, and taobao threads. It's more like /fit/ and /fa/ for girls than it is cosplay.

>> No.8233976

>>8233953
I like it waaay more than once it began. Even though I had suggested the board, I never moderated it or contributed to it because I hated it so much.

The board is nicely self-moderated for the most part. Organized threads and an active helpful community for both cosplayers and lolita is great.

Because at the time it seemed like a good combination.

Both of them are extremely weeby and often times would revolve around crafting things. (this was when people in the egl_comm were paying so much for god damn patterns out of the lolita bibles.)

Also a lot of the time it seemed to be con-centered. Lolitas always held meet ups/events at conventions and so did cosplayers.

It seemed like a good mashup at the time, and enough to keep the board actively being used by both parties.

Funny, my bf was just asking me a couple of days ago why it was all on the same board. My response was something like"because moot" but seriously I think it's a fine combination, there's a lot of crossover between cosplayers and lolita and either board would be way too slow on its own.

>> No.8234007

That would be all well and good if it weren't for the obvious fact that lolita would get torn to shreds on either of those boards and /diy/ would laugh cosplay out the door.

Jesus Christ, this. I use this board for j-fash and lolita, I am totally disinterested in cosplay and don't give a fuck about cons. You know what I do? I minimize the threads I don't want to look at. Problem solved. Suggesting lolitas and j-fash try to carve a niche in /fa/ is ridiculous. I would rather eat a pair of doc martens then spend more than ten minutes on that board.

Exactly this
I used to cosplay and barely did lolita at all, so I only looked at cosplay threads.
For awhile I was inbetween and looked at both
now I'm done with cosplay and love lolita so I only look at lolita threads
It's not super hard

It's funny because I hide all the lolita threads and I have 30+ threads hidden.

I just think lolita is more buying stuff and buying brands, and cosplay is more making stuff yourself (in before it isn't), so why wouldn't people who like brands all be lumped together? It makes more sense to me.

>> No.8234026

>>8233992

I agree on the /jp/ front but that didn't come until some time after /cgl/ was an established board. And there was no way in hell once /jp/ settled into a certain way that the users would accept lolita being posted on the board.

/fa/ might have been a good fit if /cgl/ didnt exist. but lolitas "weeb" style probably wouldn't fit in there today.

Mostly it just seems like these two cultures can co-exist better than they would on any other board.

I think cosplayers and lolitas have a more similar set of interests. Cosplay, lolita and j-fash all fall in similar categories even if they are separate things. It's specialty clothing, they all are heavily influenced by japan, there's a con/community focus, and there's very little friction between between the groups. It's a much more cohesive blend of topics and demographics.

I also just dislike /fa/ and their whole attitude. Even though cosplay doesn't interest me, I still would rather share a board with cosplayers than a bunch of sneaker obsessed narcissists chanting "where2cop" at eachother.

I tried /fa/ briefly and the only thread that seemed interesting was examples of /fa/ in anime. Tards posted pics of Kaneki's Sasuke default outfit and the Eva kids hanging out in shorts and tshirts. There was maybe 200 posts before anyone brought up Bleach or Paradise Kiss. If the lolitas really want to go try to take over I wouldn't mind. But honestly I think cosplay and lolita mesh decently and separate they would probably move too slow.

But seriously if we can have general hair and skincare threads can we please have our fit fridays back?

it wouldn't be the same. most of the time, cosplayers and lolitas are pretty neutral towards each other. people that are just into one of those things usually don't despite the others.

things are very different with /fa/ and lolita. /fa/ would shit on lolitas for looking like weeby clowns and lolitas are already contemptuous of /fa/ for the way they fail so dramatically at easymode clothing. it would be a perpetual war.

tfw naturally transitioning out of lolita and *not* into otome, would love to mix high brand snobbery with lolita snobbery:

>matching Charlotte Olympia perfume clutch with Cinema Doll
>Charlotte Olympia Croissant clutch with JetJ extra yeasty bread print
>Hermes Les Cles with AP's Lucky Keys
>Dolce and Gabbana coin purse and headband with JetJ's Star Money
>Hermes Coup de Fouet with Daydream Carnival (only the ivory and blue/mint)
>Hermes petit maison with JetJ's Village or IW's Cesky Krumlov (depending on colour)
>Kate Spade car bag with Hermes petit maison and IW Cesky Krumlov. Very bright, though. Not sure if can pull off.

Ah well. Not like there's much actual brand fans on /fa/ anyway.
