- Toy Parade low waist skirt
- Dream Fantasy salopette
- BTSSB Mary chan sheep themed jsk
All in black.
And two items that aren't lolita but more otome/fairy
- AP Girly dot skirt in dark pink
- AP lucky pack lyrical party bunny salopette in black
Also some basics like bags, few blouses and some cutsews as well also cardigans. And lots of accessories, mostly sweet themed or creepy cute.
I want more main pieces so i can start to coordinate them properly because i have casual stuff mostly or i should do more coordinates of my main pieces?

>> No.8216487

>>8216394

Main piece first. You can style a main piece in different ways, but the neckline/sleeves of your jsk/op/skirt itself will dictate whether you can wear a low collar, peter pan collar, or if you're stuck with high collar, if you need long sleeves or you can wear short puff sleeves. The length may or may not need to be fixed with an underskirt, depending on where it lands on you. If it's a border print you will need bell shape petti, if it's a flared skirt you need A-line petti.

A lot depends on the main piece. Get that first and build your coord around it.

Or a tote bag in pink/pastel yellow with sweets, a cat that look more otome than lolita that idk how to coordinate. Ugh, i need to buy more main pieces instead of random basics crap. I have a A-line petti for now because i like more this shape than cupcake even for sweet, but i think i need another petti.

This info is given during like every release (usually on blog posts). Basic gist:

1. Don't arrive and loiter around the building from late at night or early in the morning (in the attempt to secure a spot in line), as it can disturb others in the area and result in claims. If there is trouble or an accident, we will not take responsibility, to take care of shit yourself.

2. If there are a lot of people who come to the release, they'll hand out tickets and do a shuffle to determine who can enter the store at what times/in which order.

3. If you don't follow staff's directions or cause other customers problems, they'll refuse to sell to you/ask you to leave.

Normally the thing I do with dream dresses is to wear them at home first. It's going to sound so lame, but I love that feeling when I've taken a nice bath, pampered myself and then I put on a dress that's truly gorgeous and that I really like.

Then I proceed to eat some snacks, watch tv, browse the net, low energy mundane stuff. Then later I take off the dress and go do other things. It sounds even lamer now that I've typed it out. But seriously, that feeling, when you're wearing IT, and you love it so much, that's a wonderful high. And none of the wrangling traffic in your gorgeous princess dress to get to a meetup or worrying about other things happening to it either. Some weeks I do this every evening after I've taken my bath, it seriously feels so good. (I usually skip makeup when I do this, not like I'm taking photos or meeting anyone since I'm home alone).

Usually after that "induction", I feel a lot better about wearing my dream dresses out to a tea party. I'm somehow not so stressed about my dress and can focus things like having a good time with other girls, or how tasty the snacks are.

I should probably mention I don't have $1000 dresses. $500 is probably the most I've ever paid for a dress; because these are clothes I always think about how I would feel wearing that much money. If I get nervous about spending that much on clothing, then I just can't buy that dress, dream dress or not.

I also have one dream dress that's purely for looks only. I genuinely like looking at the dress more than I like wearing it. I have no idea why, this is the one and only anomaly in my whole wardrobe.

I remember in the previous thread someone was surprised at how large the measurements go for the drained cherry re-release. (as a fattychan) I feel like brands do this on purpose to torture fatties or something, because I feel like it's always cuts that will look shitty on a huge bust that end up having the more plus size friendly measurements. Like, really short bodices, high waists, thoose trapeze/sack dresses, etc. And with fully shirred pieces, some of them go so high in measurement but I feel like it's somehow ironic because they look fucking shitty if you stretch the shirring too far/to its limits and you need a cardigan to go over it.

They've done pretty badly re-releasing things, look up their memorial series from 2013. I think they don't really know what releases do well or get scalped or randomly doubles in value due to Chinese lolitas suddenly coveting it, it's not like they hire full time staff to track the secondhand value of their dresses.

At the moment they seem more focused on making sure that everyone who wants a dress can have one -- at the time of release, not after. For eg if you look on their reservations for Bitter Sweet Memories right now, they're scheduling a second round for the pink colourway, it was the most popular. That's why you rarely see btssb or aatp dresses being scalped during release, they make the effort to give everyone a fair chance of buying it.

(Compare this to AP, there's only x amount of each dress, once it's sold, getting AP to do a preorder is like pulling teeth. That's the real reason AP releases are scalped, scalpers buy up limited supplies and then raise the prices.)

The problem with secondhand price is that it's no indication of how well a re-release would do. All it shows is a handful of girls who want a $800 secondhand dress, but what they need is a hundreds of buyers since their factories have minimum runs of hundreds. And Brides isn't such an old and rare release, so a lot of lolitas already have it and won't buy it again.

One thing I think btssb/aatp should do again, they had a survey where you could only vote what print you wanted for re-release if you purchased over a certain amount from them (weeds out the girls that are only voting for fun). The result of that one was Sugar Bouquet and Midsummer Night's Dream, I think the latter was wildly popular. I don't know why they've never repeated it, though. Maybe some problems in the execution?

>> No.8218724

>>8218399

Nah, that's a terrible approach.

Buy one dress from your wishlist. Coord it, buy the blouses, socks, shoes etc for that coord. Then, fix problems. Focus only on this coord until it does't look ita.

Then buy your next dress, preferably pick a dress where you can reuse something from your first coord to make your second coord. Repeat making your second coord, and then move on to your third.

You want a wardrobe you actually look good in, not a jigsaw puzzle of clothes that you are forced to match to each other.

Please don't do this, or at least do it with pieces that all go together.

I think it's better to create a kind of capsule wardrobe for the first couple of co-ords. Pick timeless pieces that you can wear in different ways, and simple basic pieces (blouse, petti) that don't do anything fancy that would throw off your outfit. Then you only have accessories to worry about, and that's what really makes an outfit imo.

It's not really as simple as "brand" vs "not brand". It's about dependability, recognition, and secondhand value.

Specific brands such as btssb, AP, Meta, and so on have been around for ages, we have tonnes of reviews about their general quality, and we KNOW whatever they produce is likely to use decent materials. Even with girls who go around trumpeting that taobao quality can surpass brand quality, this only works if you take the very worst and lowest from the brands and compare it to the best and highest end of the indie brands. Some indies use thin cotton fabric, some use lace that's slightly off shade -- quality is still a gamble.

The other thing is the recognition that well-established brands have. If you've been into lolita for any amount of time, eventually you'll have run into Angelic Pretty, or Btssb, or Metamorphose. Whether you got into lolita in 2015 or you left it in 2005, you will have heard of them. They're in the first GLB and were in every single GLB since. Any lolita that hasn't heard of Krad Lanrete is just out of the loop. Any lolita that hasn't heard of btssb, Meta or AP isn't a lolita at all.

Due to this kind of reliability and recognition associated with these speciffic brands, we can be pretty sure that if we buy $300 random non print AP jsk today, the resale value in a year's time might be $200, if you end up buying a terribly unpopular design it might be lower, or if it's a hit design it might be double or triple what you paid.

Taobao brand, though? We're balking at near-burando prices right now, plus we don't even know how well taobao dresses age, the secondhand value is also a bit of a gamble. If you lucked out you got Mozarabic chant and can charge $200 for a used dress. If you didn't, you'll have to practically give the dress away as no one wants it.

So yeah, not as easy as "brand should cost more", it's more about the kind of dependability and resale value that we've come to associate with some particular brands.

>> No.8222300

>>8220984

I agree with most of what >>8222251 mentioned, there's a bit of a similar vibe in the BJD community as well. However, it's not to say that Japanese brands can't have their fuckups - I'm not a fan of meta as a whole because I despise their cuts and wasn't impressed with materials for the scant pieces I've owned (and sold).

There's also taste and perception - if Haenuli or KL or another indie comes out with killer print after killer print that a majority of the community wants, then I think their general value will go up a bit more. It just so happens that AP, AatP, BtSSB and so on have had enough history that they can have a season of duds and then suddenly hit it out of the park for the next season. (AP being the current example considering how much of their fall/winter stuff just sat there compared to how fast everything is selling out right now.) The fact that they've been around means that their reputation can take knocks that companies starting out can't just yet.

KL might be the only indie brand with that sort of consistency and they're just starting to raise their prices to reflect it. People are always going to bellyache when prices go up regardless.

But beware they've been sending people wrong sizes, the print is rather blurry (though not bad from afar), and the fabric quality is pretty cheap (it's that polyester stuff that they do ink injection/sublimation printing on). But if like me you are desperate for a nice jewel tone Mucha print, it's fine for casual wear. Personally I didn't like Surfacespell or IW's prints for their price-vs-quality comparison and the colorways available.

Start by looking for sample makers in your area, they're usually the ones who'll do smaller runs like what you're looking for. Or if you know of any fashion schools/community colleges with fashion programs, put up an ad.

I can tell you right now, no factory would remotely consider doing a run that size - my SO had Chinese hookups for manufacturing and he was doing minimum runs of 100+ for the stuff he was making. The factory treated his stuff as an afterthought, they made it long after they were done with full production runs and with whatever fabric was left over from the other jobs ripped off from existing patterns.

The whole series could have been designed better tbh.

The OP is a sack. The skirt is high waisted (like almost all lolita skirts now though). The JSK is underbust so now it will be harder to dress down since it will always require a blouse for extra coverage instead of being able to just put a cardigan or something over it like in the pic. It's a shame because the design is simple and great for otome.

Yeah, that terrible OP cut they keep doing, too. I like the corset cut but I can definitely see what you mean about the print being nice for casual. I have some low-quality photos at the moment, but I can always borrow a camera and take proper ones.

100% recommending the Timeless Treasures Galaxy print - It's the sister print to this constellation fabric. It's a really lovely weight.

I'm pretty sure it was called "Under the stars - Constellations" by Timeless Treasures, but it's almost impossible to find these days. I bought it years ago.

>mfw I don't have any sad reaction images.

Any recommendations for blue sky fabric? I like this TT but don't like that I think you can see the weave.
