That is totally not something you can be thinking about while at a con. You can't be dwelling on no gf while surrounded by hundreds of beautiful women in amazing cosplay. It's just going to go into a negative feedback loop. Just meet as many people as you can and be a swell person while doing things that you enjoy with people who share your interests. That's not a how-to on getting laid or getting a gf either- that's just what you should do with your time. You don't have very much at a con anyway. Don't waste it on pity-parties.

Also, come play games with us.

Did anyone else attend that touhou panel? It was...much different than the one I remember a few years back.

speak for yourself. Was one of the most boring weekends of my life. I think I'm getting too old for this shit. None of the current animu crap interests me and most everyone I saw running around was teenagers I can't connect with.

Is upper 20's the limit for having fun at a con? or was I supposed to be drunk the entire time, because I'm pretty sure most of everyone my age was (or should've been).

>> No.8229564

Cringe-worthy, yet touching. Blind Inuyasha cosplayer got up during Loveline to ask a question, only he ended up calling out his girlfriend, also in cosplay from that show up to propose (and the cringe begins). People call on Zapp to marry them right there (theoretically jokingly), as he's a captain (fair point). Then the Mario/Luigi dude who's always at Zapp's things (one of his entourage of awesome) says he's a reverend (Universal Life Church?), and offers to marry them, telling them they'll need to go register it post-haste.

Now I don't know if they were taking it seriously at this point (the tears on the girl's face implied a yes), but they went ahead and had him marry them (sadly not Spaceballs or Princess Bride style). Again, I have no idea how seriously they were taking it, but yeah. Weird, hilarious, kinda creepy, and yet heartwarming all in one. And again, I still have no idea just quite what I witnessed.

They should run it in the con next year, but it will be tricky for the following reasons:

-Catering: You will need someone to provide catering support at the maid cafe.

-Getting a motivated serving staff: Coming from a maid cafe regular, it is combining the worst of a lunch rush hour with several overworked volunteer girls who is going to deal with at least one patron who is going to act like a pervert and hit on the maids or freeloaders who cam and dash. They better know how to hold down a staff.

-Competition: Cheesecake Factory and Gameworks are nearby and they make a killing off. Hard to make money at a maid cafe when there are nearby place with options as good as they are.

That said for me, Sakuracon was a disappointment for the things I wanted to see like food and swag but pretty fun in terms of panels and activities, I went to most of them on Saturday and Sunday. I came to buy stuff and eat well and I wind up at the photoshoots for the entire period and checking out the activities.

Pretty good show for Loveline this year, the venue grew on me after a while, though I still prefer the panel at the table over standing. Some of the hecklers and their constant "why don't you just put out!" shouts got annoying, but that's just part of the spectacle these days. Audio was a bit spotty, but that wasn't your fault. The wedding is definitely one of them. Pretty crazy. We were all standing up there like "Holy shit, is this happening? What do we even do?"

MCing the cosplay contest was a lot of fun, too. Our new cosplays were wonderful, and our updated ones were awesome. A lot of the stories I have probably aren't the types /cgl/ is interested in though, except for one in particular...

After loveline, our maid had ... Quite the night. We went back to our room and he had a few drinks, then said he was gonna go back out to con and fuck around, and would be back in like an hour. For some reason he left wearing nothing but a shirt and underwear. We didn't see him for 12 hours. We were kind of worried he'd got attacked or something, and we weren't exactly wrong about it.

Apparently some guy propositioned him for sex on the street and followed him from the hotel to the con. He managed to shake him, and then another guy did the same thing at the rave. Ended up going back to some girls hotel (there are little bits to the story in between as well but I'm about to leave), who ended up clawing the absolute fuck out of his back. When we saw him we thought he ended up in a dungeon or something. Was pretty nuts. I'll try and get a picture.

The convention center has super strict rules about selling food there because of the agreements they have with the businesses who are already there. They were even giving the PAX cookie brigade shit for a while, even though they only ask for donations.

As for the maid cafe, the person opening it is the former Head Chef of Portage Bay Cafe, so the food is top priority over anything else.

I checked out your Friday panel that night, it was pretty great since it was my first time checking out your panels, had lots of laughs.

I sat in the middle but I felt pretty bad for the very right side (farthest from the tables with the mics) because they couldn't see a lot, and I think they felt ignored during the mini games when things were happening between the left and middle columns.

I noticed there was some poor communication when one of the girls were suggesting to split up the Pros and Joes groups so either side of the room can see what's happening, but you said they had to be together. I sorta get why the groups were kept closer together so it's easier to judge and for them to interact with the other group, but it would be so much better for the audience.

Better yet, I hoped that there'd be a camera setup to project what's happening on the large screen. It would benefit you and everyone viewing if that was possible to do.

Overall, keep up the funnies, if you can somehow make your panel be more accessible for everyone to see, it would be awesome.

This is something we've been struggling with for a few years now. We really aren't sure what the best way to go about doing so is. I initially thought I could stream to the big screen using a webcam but I don't seem to have software that will let me do so. We are looking more seriously into it for next year though -- We have someone who records the panels with a GoPro and he thinks he might be able to rig something up for us. If possible, we're going to try to stream it to Twtich, as well. If you have any idea/suggestions though, PLEASE let me know.

I also apologize for that weird little bit of miscommunication, I'm not really sure what happened there. I wanted the groups together for the Fell-Your-Pose thing, but when you put it like that I see what my Mic-Wench was going for.

We are definitely going to try and figure out a projection fix though. What would be EVEN BETTER of course would be to just get main stage, but that's a pretty lofty goal!

>>8232319
Glad to hear the venue didn't drive you totally bonkers. It worked well enough, but we're going to push harder for 6C again next year. The heckling got a little bit out of control, I agree. I'm going to have to get some people to roam around and tell people to chill a bit I think.
