Didn't see a makeup thread in the catalog.

I recently discovered this SUPER CHEAP brand that sells lovely dupes of well known brands. They have dupes of Too Faced Chocolate, UD Naked, Stila Palettes, Limecrime lipsticks and a lot more. So far, all of the reviews I have read and seen are positive. Which is why the reason why I am currently thinking of ordering from them.

Limecrime dupes for only £1 without the drama? Count me in please!

Here's the website:

http://www.makeuprevolutionstore.com/index.php/

Have you guys been buying dupes for certain makeup brands?
Which brands are they?
What are your current favorite products and which brands do you recommend for Cosplay and Lolita makeup in general?

Limecrime is/was already a dupe..lol but I don't buy dupes just alternatives like makeupgeek, colourpop, and nyx. I'll splurge on things like dip dip or banana powder from Ben nye but that's about it.

It's Skin. A famous Korean makeup and skincare brand. Majority of Korean makeup have cutesy packaging so all you need to do is look for them.

Here are good ones to look out for just to start you off:

It's Skin
TonyMoly
PeriPera
Etude House
Lioele
Holika Holika

You can find animal, food and heart shaped items from there.

Dupes aren't always intentional copies of each other. Makeup bloggers have often posted that they bought a new product that reminds them of some other product X, they take out the two to compare, find the results are almost similar enough, and ta-da, the cheaper one is now a dupe of the pricier one, although the two products may have been manufactured and released years apart in completely different countries, and have absolutely nothing in common other than "this product kinda has a similar result with this other product". It doesn't even have to be a 100% similarity for someone out there to say "it's a decent dupe for the price savings"

For a proper comparison, fakes are not okay, such as fake Maybelline mascaras, fake MAC cosmetics, etc.

>> No.8204533

>>8204440
Well with replicas its paying someone else to directly replicate something and then usually wearing it out with the intention of it looking like the original, or bearing the original's logo or name. Dupes aren't really pretending to be that item, they're more often than not just trendhoppers or coincidence than a true copy (though that certainly happens too). There's actual straight up bootleg makeup which is usually super shitty but in similar packaging and I would say that more directly compares to replicas as they're often lower in print or material quality as well. Dupes are more like, when cheaper trend fashion places like F21 try to ride the coattails of designers and feature similar cuts and colors and trims but almost never are direct cut for cut remakes. Its cheaper, likely not identical and might not last as long but certainly gets the job done and looks good doing it.

It's trademarked, not copyrighted. There's a difference, "reeses orange" is trademarked too, but it just has to do with competitor candies. they all come from the same chinese manufacturer.
the coastal scents palette is the exact same one you can find on ebay for like 10 bucks, just unbranded. probably the same with this one.
also, try using an eyeshadow primer and a cream eyeshadow base if you don't already. the pigments in those palettes aren't the greatest, but if you prime your lids for longevity and use a base for the pigment to stick to, it isn't terrible.

also just a headsup, any palette that includes a true red eyeshadow is probably not going to be good for you. something about red pigments not being healthy to put near your eyes.

For the most part I have a sort of standard makeup scheme with the neutrals that suits my face and then depending on the color the accent will go either through the inner corner or swept up across the outer edge. I would say try exfoliating your lips before use if you haven't been, lush lip scrubs are great for it, and then use balm while you apply the rest of your makeup. Anything that is left on your lips when you're done eye makeup and whatever else isn't near your lip line, wipe off then use Queen supreme and it should apply much better. Too much use of liquid lipstick can make your lips more dry than usual so taking care of them is super important (mine looked awful the first little while) I hope that helps!

Not sure what drugstore options or makeup counters you have near you but apparently Wet n wilds fergie, Lorac and ELF primers are supposed to be good. For me Urban Decay's primer potion or Avon eyeshadow primer work really well and my eyelids are a little hooded so if they can stick my shadow and not smear then I think they'll be ok for most people unless you have super greasy or super dry eyelids. I'd say go test some in store just to be sure.

Do not waste money on lush lip scrub please. It is basically wet sugar in a jar. If you wanna pay a shit ton at least get nuxe's reve du meil. It has an exfoliator in it that you basically work into the lip eventually but actually conditions the lip at the same time. Jeffree star is also releasing some lip scrub soon that appears to be more than wet sugar. Episilk balm is very good too because it absorbs fully but the hyraluronic acid plumps and smoothes the lips.

Serious question, this has me at a complete fucking loss.

How does makeup look so natural on some people? Like, they look almost air brushed in real life.

When I put on makeup, no matter what I do, it clumps or looks dry/cracked. I've tried every method of application and have over $1000 worth of various products I've tried, all with the same result.

Even when I have my makeup done professionally, it still looks clumpy and bad in real life.

Illamasqua, MAC, Stargazer and Manic Panic all make actual white foundations that you can mix with a regular one to your lightness shade. So do theatrical makeup brands like Ben Nye, Kryolan, graftobian, mitsuyoshi. The latter even do some cake or powder foundations in a couple of shades of 'white, based slightly pinker or yellower.
For regular stuff, Kat von D's lightest is pretty light, 45, I think but it's online only.
Stargazer white liquid mixes well with L'Oreal True Match in C1, N1 or W1 depending if you are cool, neutral or warm. MAC's cool and warm tones are reversed from other foundations but they make c10, I think it's called. Otherwise Studio Sculpt (cream) and Studio Fix or Face and Body (liquids) in NC15 or NW15 is the lightest, and will mix with their Face and Body in White. Get samples if you can but if you buy your main color in the right undertone then mixing in white just takes practice. Set with barrier spray or if you must use powder, use translucent powder or mix in some white loose face powder with loose translucent. Baby powder clogs pores. That's all I got. Hope it helps.

If it looks too dry/cracked then you should be moisturizing well before makeup application. Let your moisturizer settle in for at least 5 minutes before moving onto your makeup routine. On the days where my skin is even drier than usual I like to do another thin layer of moisturizer after the 5mins before I begin makeup application. Also try applying you makeup with a damp (not wet, soak and squeeze before use) sponge for a smooth and even finish. You can also try mixing your foundation with some moisturizer before applying. Good luck!

BBs are not going to lighten your skin at all, if they say whitening they usually mean application will give paler skin because the grey tones in most Asian BBs. If you are trying to fight your genetic skin tone you'd have to use lightening bleach or creams with mercury in it to inhibit melanin, which is obviously horrible.

Pale skin fixation is as stupid as it is dangerous, just pamper the skin you have and stick to spot treatments for hyper-pigmentation and wear sunscreen often. Sorry to lash out but I'm so tired of seeing rampant colorism everywhere I go.

>>8213672
The Asian brands will have better coverage than what you'll find in the states but they definitely do not have a wide range of skin tones, and like I said many of them have cool grey tones that will end up looking ashy on like 95% of skin tones. If you're looking for coverage, you'll either need to go high end or just go to foundation. Jouer Matte Moisture is great for oily skin (they don't go very dark tho), and the Tarte BB is pretty good as well and it has SPF 20. Also if you're treating uneven skin tone, use spot treatments or exofliants/masks, otherwise you'll end up damaging all your healthy skin trying to get rid of some spots. Bio-Oil works great for scars, and the Maybelline Fit Me concealer is generally considered best for drugstore-tier.

it's a pain but a brush is usually better than straight from the bullet or pencil because you get a thinner application which will last longer. also are you blotting then reapplying? the color stays much better when you do, and some people will also brush powder after blotting, wipe off excess, then reapply.

My friend set up an appointment there to get her prom makeup done, asked for subtle and light pink for her eyes, got a fucking smokey eye with orange-pink. I'm curious about ELF dupes. I want to know if the tone adjusting green colored primer is comparable to smashbox's.

I'm considering getting samples of BB creams, too, since I don't know what works for him skin tone and property wise, however, thinking about powders since guys tend to sweat more and may need more coverage. Would Elf's blemish powder be too fine of a coverage?

The Magic Pout gloss smells FANTASTIC. I put it on and had someone asking what smelled so good and thought it was perfume, not gloss. As you can see in the pic it adds a nice shine over lipstick. The packaging is also super cute. I'd pretty much buy anything they put out with packaging like that.

The blush worked pretty good as well but when I swiped my brush over it and applied, I got a big patch of the white/silver-ish glitter powder that's in mine. I also had to stop and blow excess powder off the compact once I had finished because it made a bit of a mess. The design was still in good condition though, so that's a plus. Let's talk makeup primers and setting/finishing powders!

What are some good primers for acne prone combination to oily skin? I've used Lumene mattifying primer for years now but It just doesn't really work. At best it doesn't make my acne worse, but it doesn't do a great job at hiding anything or keeping anything matte.

Also, what's the deal with loose powders? I've tried out a few but all the ones which claim to have brilliant oil absorbing and mattifying properties either give off huge flashback from pictures or cake the fuck up during the day. I've stayed with Skin Food Peach Sake powder for now, but I'm sure there are better ones out there.

I had a pretty nice experience. The lady guided me to a brightly lit center booth with a bunch of foundations and while at first I had the same problem where the first few were too pink on me (I have "yellow" skin too) eventually she found one that matched.

Maybe it's because the lady I met was really helpful and lenient but either way, don't be afraid to ask to try a different one if you're unsure of a product. They're not supposed to "insist" products on you (they can recommend but not insist) and of course "the customer is always right" so it's okay to disagree with them.

i have really oily skin as well and i've found that the only primer that works for me is smashbox's photo finish primer. it's oil-free, water based, and evens the face out very well. i also actually look good when i take pictures too (non-photogenic here). it lasts for a good while before i need to blot but i only have to use one sheet and it's not that gross ugly shiny oil that most other makeup have. very subtle. the only problem is it's pricey and i haven't been able to find a working dupe for cheaper.

I am >>8233773 and my package finally arrived!!!

I laid out the package beside my 6 month old Siberian Husky for reference.

>inb4 ugly sofa cover, it's a make shift one so she doesn't cover the black with her fur. She's been shedding like crazy for summer so we had no choice

Which product swatches do you want first?

That's totally fair because it can be irritating in your sleep breathing it in/tickling you. Cute dog!

Anyway, how much was all of this? When you get a feel for the product will you do a quick review of them? (Especially that Matte Brights palette, i had my eye on it but it sold out.)

She was cuter as a puppy. Now she's very lanky as she's at that awkward teenager stage. :D

It set me back by €100.58 including shipping.
The colors are highly pigmented and are really bright in person. The other palettes are just as highly pigmented as this one and the color on the pan is almost always the exact one that comes out when you swatch it on your skin. It's really impressive.

I didnt swatch the white and the grey one as I've swatched it on earlier and didnt have any clean fingers left.

That fucking feel. We've got a new brown water resistant cover for our couch because the puppy likes to lick the damn thing until you think she's peed on it and now the fatass cat who makes it her lounging spot has turned half of the cover into a giant hairball of white fur.

Makeup revolution eyeshadows are such a false economy.
Bought a palette after hearing people raving about it - whatever the naked 1 dupe was called - and expected it to be decent for the price from the reviews. The matte shadows barely showed up on the eye, the shimmery shadows had barely any staying power. And finger swatches of them are a fucking con. I get a bunch when doing a finger swatch, then actually using a brush to apply them I get a powder lot of nothing. Tried five different brushes to no avail. Even tried some old sponge applicators I had around to see if it made a difference.

If you're going for super budget eyeshadow I would go for mua eyeshadows. Better lasting power and a little more pigmented but still, if you're someone who actually enjoys using eyeshadow and has it as a major part of their look just skip mua and mur altogether. They're a big old load of hype for painfully mediocre products.

Only things I would actually recommend from makeup revolution is their powder highlighter. That's actually alright.

I tried them on my eyelids after I read your post, anon.

I used the Iconic 3 palette and the orange shade from the Matte Bright palettes.

The picture is a bit wonky because of shitty lighting so please bear with me.

The Iconic 3 palette's, aka Naked 3 dupe, colors are a bit mild for me and it's great for everyday makeup. The colors don't pop out really well on my skin tone unless I use a primer because I have the typical yellow-asian skintone. The orange shade from the Matte Brights palette easily overpowers them and the picture I have attached shows that.

I had the strange urge to try and cover the Iconic shades with the orange and it did just that. Easily. All that you can see from the Iconic shades are just their shimmers.

I am in love with the orange shade. It's the perfect kind of orange that I am looking for since forever.

Once again the photo is wonky and the colors are less red in real life. I'll try to wear them tomorrow and take pictures of them in better lighting.

So some previous people from this thread recommended I use a baby toothbrush to exfoliate my lips. You are a genius and deserve a medal. Also another anon gave me tips about lip balm. Power to you anon you're the bomb. My jeffree star liquid lipstick is finally looking bright and wonderful and it's all thanks to you sassy babes. Thank you!

Different anon but I actually find it comforting to feel my dog at my feet at night. The family dogs never slept with me when I lived with my parents so when I got my own place with my own dog it was great having the dog stay with me all night.

I do have to wash the sheets quite frequently but it's worth it to me.

We actually use her as a model for practice photography. We have an entire folder dedicated to pictures of her growing up in hi-res photos.
I am also happy to report that Makeup Revolution's Vivid Blush Lacquer comes in a pump and the product spreads beautifully and gives off a natural glow. I tried it on without any foundation or traces of makeup or moisturizer underneath, but it still showed up beautifully!

Which models (either brand) do you have or have used? I'd like to try a package of both, thinking some that are thicker on the outside then botyom lashes.
I'm afraid I will mess up lower lashes at first though so reluctant to pay $$ for those. Maybe practice with a cheap 10pack of Chinese lower lashes first?

I see DW has a black band instead of clear on the new models. Is it still as soft as the clear ones?
