I don't know if I should post this in the BST thread, but I'm looking for that anon who buys replicas to make household things for a friend who wants to get rid of her things asap. I'm afraid my back search only went so far.

>Anyway

There's an event coming up soon and there's an influx of young/new comers in the community, and I was thinking about lending (less expensive) pieces to them if they attend the meet. I know that there have been some horror stories in the past, but I'd like to hear some recent experiences. Tips, success, and horror stories are welcomed.

Never lend out anything you would be sad to see destroyed. If you have an attachment to it, don't ever lend it out. If you do lend it, make sure you have a written agreement of terms and conditions as well as multiple contact numbers (home address, phone number, e-mail, etc.) so that you can collect if they fuck your shit up.

Or, just be smart and not give anyone your brand. It's a terrible idea in general. If they want to be a lolita, let them save their money and buy their own shit. If they can sponge off of other people they will continue to do so until you stop lending them things. Newbs are shite in my experience, and there is a weeding period where the people who don't want to spend the money eventually drop out after the realize no one is going to pay their way.

After seeing that "How Much Does Lolita Really Cost?" post on tumblr I was floored, some of them were reasonable, but for the most part? Most of this does not look worth the price paid, Mahou Shoujo for example is a hot, expensive mess. A typical coord for me can run 300-1000+ easily but yeah, most of it has been accumulated over the course of 4 years and I buy in small batches with a new main piece every few months as I can afford it.

Actually, I find that setting bids lower makes people buy it at a higher price more often. If you set a piece at $125 that usually goes for $250 more people will be likely to bid on it while it's low and then get in a bidding war and raise it up(usually way higher)

But our local group is lolita-specific, and I'm the only one to even be interested in a couple of other j-fashions and I don't particularly like Otome. I can wear my other fashions other times, lolita meets are for lolita. There are a few other fashionable people here who want to start a general fashion group in addition to the lolita group, a few like K-pop, a couple are into Retro, etc. that's the best idea for other fashions. I'm hoping someone could help me with this: because I'm retarded, I had the biggest brainfart in the history of brainfarts and put my Dance of The Black Cats JSK in water to wash it. I immediately saw red (literally) and saw the error of my ways. It has areas that looks a bit pink (I've asked a couple of friends and they said they didn't notice it until I pointed out specific spots).

If I choose to sell this dress, how much do I lower the price due to the damage? I'd post a photo but it just doesn't show up in pictures, but I know it's there regardless. Is this maybe repairable? Would soaking the shit out of it just make it worse at this point?

Also if anybody knows what it's worth to begin with, that'd be great!

Mine cost nowhere near that, but they still cost about as much as an offbrand lolita outfit. While a Bodyline-centric outfit might have £16 shoes, a £25 dress, £6 wristcuffs, £3 tights, £3 on thrilled pearl necklaces and bracelets, a £10 hair accessory, £22 petticoat and £10 bag, totalling £95, a typical everyday outfit for me features £80 leather boots, £20 jeans, a £6 long-sleeved top, a £5 T-shirt, a £1 hair thing and a £40 bag, total £152. My lolita and non-plolira coats also cost similar amounts. Gotta get those leather shoes, warm woollen coats and a sturdy bag if I'm gonna be using them everyday...the cost per wear may well be lower than my lolita stuff though.

Hello everyone, newfriend here.

>Friends want me to wear a lolita outfit for some event
>Hesitant because I know I'm going to need custom sizing and also don't want to look like an ita since I'm a veritable newfag
>Look through various sites out of curiosity, show one friend a dress that caught my eye

Would anyone else be rubbed the wrong way by that statement? If I'm going to do this, I want to do it right. I've two questions:

I am so, so sorry. Does Fleuvog make that size? If you're thibk ing goth or classic, fleuvogs are expensive but are high quality and can be worn outside Lolita. Also maybe try Clarks? If Payless stocks that size, occasionally I find hidden gems, granted 4 sizes smaller. I wish I could be more helpful here. There were also 3 pairs of body line shoes and 3 Btssb parasols. 2 put of 3 shoes were too small, the parasols are all in perfect condition. I have handwashed all the dresses and managed to get out pretty much all of the stains. 2 dresses are from a lesser k own brand and aren't really top quality. One I'm gonna sell, the other I'm going to have fun with because its pretty awful. A third dress I have already sold, leaving 1 Btssb cutsew OP my friends convinced me to keep for when I'm pregnant, AP fairy cake, AP milky berry JSK in pink and AP jewelry jelly in pink, and headbows for all three and some extra misc head dresses. Btssb is coming to my country this wall, and they are going to hold a fashion show.
My friends suggested I'd apply for it, but I'm hesitating because of my measurements. I'm slim, so there is no issue with that (75cm). But I'm 177cm tall and got a 98cm bust.

Put the petticoat over the kimono once it's tied, and it doesn't actually do much in the way of taking up extra space. Also, having extra ties and a proper datejime to smooth things out help immensely at preventing bulk/gathering of fabric around the waist.

I really like the colors and fabrics of this and also the collar but I think this also makes it very obvious why using a kimono is a bit of a bad idea. >hakama with a kimono

Basically, yes.

Although if you have a long juban, you will have to deal with that too:
- If your juban(s) is a long one, you will have to shorten it/those as well while you dress (the same way you shortened your kimono by hiking up the hem and making an ohashori out of the excess fabric. I know the juban usually isn't tied with any ohashori but it's the only way to shorten it, unless you want to actually mod it shorter). I seriously recommend against wearing the full length full kimono ensemble, as it's a lot of layers to shorten.
- alternatively, find a two-piece juban, wear only the top. Then you don't have to shorten the juban (and have less layers)
- get a kantan eri. Treat your kimono as a yukata and wear the kantan eri instead of a juban underneath. Wear a t-shirt underneath that if you're worried about sweating into your silk kimono.
- Wear a blouse underneath instead of juban

Make sure to tie the waist neatly so the skirt and petticoat can fit over everything.

This is a pretty combination but the collars are all pushed up on her neck in the back. I'm not sure if she meant to do that for some reason or not. Kantan Eri would look better to me and be a good guide to set the outer collar in the correct position.

I'm pretty sure it's unintentional, but when you consider how a lot of lolitas insist one must cover their shoulders, skirt cannot be too short, lolita should not showing too much leg or cleavage, etc, I find it vaguely appropriate that the collar is so high it indicates she might be a prude...

>> No.8204690

>>8204683
Eh, point (and yes, it made me laugh too!) but still, not even a granny would wear their kimono collar that high would they? This is why even the wa lolita that looks nice kind of still is a in a grey area. Should you go with lolita rules or kitsuke customs first?

There's like a couple of model photos for JetJ yukata with really high collars, too, so I don't really know what to think (JetJ isn't even particularly modest, when you consider they show a lot of shoulders frequently, lol). On the other hand, this is such a messy ohashori... maybe even Japanese people mess up kitsuke sometimes, even for important photoshoots.

I usually put kitsuke rules behind lolita rules for wa-loli, as the kimono becomes something being used for lolita fashion, rather than lolita fashion being added on top of a kimono.

The opposite end of that would be the lolita kimono (eg this JetJ yukata, which is breaking a few kitsuke rules...), I'd put kitsuke as higher priority than lolita rules, because it's lolita styling and accessories being applied to a kimono outfit rather than a lolita outfit, if that makes sense?

There's also all those creative (non lolita) outfits featured in kimono-hime which break all sorts of kitsuke rules, and can't really be worn to anyplace formal, so I usually lump in wa-lolita with that. It's something that I wouldn't show up to a tea ceremony or somebody's graduation in, but it's still a fun way to get creative with clothes and kimonos.

Traid. Second hand store that's mainly decent high street stuff. Every so often it has £2 sales, most of the time you can find nice items for £5 or less, and the last coat I bought was a Debenhams wool blend one for £8 that was practically unused

Ah, that's a lumpy shame too b/c it's pretty. I like kimono hime styling because I'm tall and like to show quirky shoes and have the right-size oshare. I'm practicing a little, mostly with yukata and a few unlined vintage kimono. I still want to see more tries at wa lolita with real kimono though.

Quick question;

Do brand pieces made out of chiffon usually have silky or cotton lining? Or both (Silky lining, cotton base dress, chiffon over-layer) ?

I got a nice silky lining for a chiffon jsk I'm making, but it just feels so.. Light? Delicate? Not-sturdy? I don't know.

>> No.8204993

>>8204978

Silky lining for Moitie, JetJ and AP so far. What's the point of soft, floaty chiffon if your underlayer is stiff as cardboard, amirite?

As for the lining you picked up. Light and delicate are good feelings for a chiffon dress. Just make sure the fabric actually is sturdy and only feels light. ie- it shouldn't rip easily from you tugging at it, when layered under your chiffon it's actually opaque enough that it isn't see-through (blouse details showing through the jsk isn't exactly a cutting edge look at the moment), that kind of thing.

Mhm! Opaque and high thread-count. Damn stuff cost more than the chiffon.
I suppose I'm just more used to the feel of thick fabrics like wool, velveteen, cotton, etc.

Thanks, anon!
