Since the efamous lolita cost breakdown seems to be trending right now, I thought it would be fun to have a coord cost thread dedicated to lolita and general Jfashion.

Break down the cost for your most recent Jfash outfit, include a picture or collage if you want, and let us all mourn for the money we've spent.

lolno. Don't want to support an artist? Don't buy their art. Unless they're a scammer or something to that extreme, them having drama is not any kind of valid justification that will magically make you less of a trashy basic for owning their stolen art. Also, the drama was because Gaia had a design that was copy/paste identical to a bunny character of hers. There were tiny little tidbits about the design that made it more than just your typical case of "don't steal my totally generic looking character!"

Are you literally retarded? Pusheen is a copyright character with a distinct design. It is illegal to profit off of him without the creator's permission. Tea parties are a shoe style. It is not illegal to profit from them without the original designer's permission because it's a fucking shoe style and I shouldn't have to be explaining the difference because it's clear as day.

You know what would be interesting, if we tried doing this "how much" business for entire wardrobes, like eg

x number of jsks and OPs -- $xx,xxx
x number of blouses -- $x,xxx
accessories and socks -- $x,xxx

Wardrobe worth: $xxx,xxx

Estimated number of possible coordinates: xxx
(eg- how many dresses can be coorded x ways)

It's be interesting to see how many wardrobes are tiny, in the four-digit range, and still have a lot of coords, or see what a 5-digit wardrobe looks like.

Although it'd be pretty depressing to think about all that money sunk into a hobby where I rarely wear these clothes...

This is what I've been saying since forever ago, but people seem too thick to get it. The reason it's not illegal to replicate designs is because those designs are generic. Tea parties are just bows and straps and, guess what, every sweet lolita shoe has bows and straps! Oh the horror! You can't copyright the exact placement of a bow because it would become a clusterfuck and everyone would be paying everyone else, spending millions of dollars just to produce one pair of shoes. Not at all. The only time it's comparable is when they're using something copyright (such as a logo) and are trying to pass it off as the same thing. That's why Gucci knock-offs are such a big deal, because the people knocking them off use the Gucci logo and are trying to tell people it's real. I got into lolita in January of last year and since then I've spent £1750 on it. That's a mixture of mostly Taobao, some Bodyline, some secondhand brand from LM, some secondhand brand from auctions, and one piece of firsthand brand. I've sold 4-5 items but I put the money back into buying more, so I've not counted the cost twice.

For that I've got:
Bags: 8
Hair accessories: 9
Wigs: 4
Petticoats: 2
Shoes: 8
JSKs: 4
OPs: 4
Skirts: 8
Blouses: 8
Jackets, vests and boleros: 3
Coats: 1
Parasols: 1

Plus a handful of other accessories, mostly thrifted jewelery with a couple of pairs of wristcuffs.

It averages like £40 per item, not counting accessories, but IDK what the true breakdown is. I mean, there's a nearly-£200 coat in there, and main pieces ranging from £20 to £95, wigs ranging from £8 to £40, bags ranging from £10 to £75...

Excited to wear a new coord this weekend, quick breakdown:
MMM JSK: $250
*damaged and then repaired BTSSB blouse: 40
Plain tights: $10
Surface Spell Hat: (gift, but would be $60)
Vintage Edwardian boots: $75
Jewelry: $60

With all shipping my coord is $495. Jesus Christ, I thought it was going to be way less, ugh.

Of course, I don't buy all of these items at once, so small accumulations make everything affordable and it feels good to know that you can put together something nice without putting yourself in any financial stress. Though, that last part refers to some of my other coords, not this one. Second hand IW OPs filled up my closet quick because of how damn affordable they are.

I used two on the neckline, a wide one that I ruffled and a narrow rose one. There are three different laces total--the same rose lace is at the bottom, and I used a super simple narrow one between the tiers.

This is what frustrates me the most. Why spend the same or more for a shit quality chinese bootleg when you can just buy the good quality one.

I've bought both from Alpacasso and from bootleggers before and I can guarantee you that the bootlegs are hardly ever cut accurately, usually understuffed, have tinier eyes than they should, have cheap fur that has much less fibers that it should, and even will tear at their own seams because of how poorly they're constructed. Brand may make a few mistakes here and there, but they tend to be much easier to fix than having to practically reconstruct the plush to look decent and stay together.

Also, what's the fucking point of buying bootleg if you actually hate the artist/company and what they stand for? Pusheen's name is out there, people who recognize the character are going to know who it is and assume you like it anyways if you own a plush of it. There are plenty of other kawaii cat plushes to buy in the world and you chose Pusheen, and a cheap looking one-sided pillow looking plush of it at that.

Hair Bow: $45
Wrist Cuffs: $25

Probably my most expensive coord thanks to just the cost of the dress, though Honey Cake would probably be a close second. I'm a basic bitch and have issues accessorizing.

My cheapest coord would probably be around $200 after shoes, petticoat, and a bag.

>>8204443
This is a really rough estimate of what I think it's all worth/was bought for.
I came up with $3500 for 15 main pieces (just my lolita stuff, not counting the bit of JM and un-loliable ETC I have), $675 for tops (7 blouses, 4 cardigans/boleros), $125 for brand legwear (8 pairs), $235 for accessories (mostly hair stuff and a few necklaces), $410 for 6 bags, $150 for 3 pairs of shoes (just purged all of my old ones and need to stock up), $80 for the one coat I own (btssb), and $100 for 4 petticoats for a total of:
~$5275
My wardrobe also feels tiny and terribly incomplete, likely because of lack of accessories and cohesion.

>> No.8213669

>>8203514
designer is not quality and you're not buying a windbreaker for it to cost as much as that
It's a simple dress, I can find better ones for half the price

>> No.8213689

>>8213666
Also, as far as number of coordinates go, I would say half my wardrobe can only be worn in one way or two ways that are only very slightly different.
I have two sets of three JSKs with legwear, bags, accessories, etc. that all compliment each other really well so I can probably easily make 2-3 rather different coords with each of those (the bag or shoes might stay the same).
Overall, I'd say I can make probably 30-35 coords with my wardrobe. I need to prune my main pieces and invest in more shoes/accessories.

>> No.8213697

>>8204443
>almost 30 main pieces
>$4300 in main pieces
I don't want to add up everything else, but I'm sure it's a little over 10k since I don't skimp on accessories. Calculating potential coordinates would be tough. I would guess over 100. I haven't run out of coords and have at least two but usually more for every main piece, though I do buy and sell some pieces, but I wear lolita fairly regularly and have many planned coords I've never worn.
I have some spare time so I may make a spreadsheet of lolita I own but I dunno how useful it would be, it might just make me feel bad lol. Any good reason to do it?

also, i do actually have a spreadsheet for everything i'd bought up until november. i gave up after that because i had 3 huge orders come in and... yeah

not sure about potential coords, of course the number would be very high if i just swapped the accessories around and such
also, i don't have a very cohesive wardrobe which does make it harder

>> No.8213759

>>8213701
You can't exactly go out and about in pajamas all the time.
Honestly, even my most basic/lazy ass outfit is probably around $200.
>camisole: $3
>loose, drapey t-shirt thing: $10
>flannel: $5 if I wear my mum's old one, $25 if I wear my longer, coat-like one
>jeans: $30, bought on sale
>socks: $25, gifted smartwool
>shoes: $120 if it's winter and I wear my docs, $50 if I wear my brogues

That's not including my bag or a hat or whatever I choose to wear, and it's for days when I'm sick/tired/hungover and go for lumberjack kei instead of otome.

I don't think most people realize how much their clothing adds up to. Unless you're buying literally everything from charity shops (which suck and are still kind of expensive where I live) or the clearance rack, it's easy for outfits to add up to $100, which I would say is about the cost of a basic bodyline/offbrand coord.

>> No.8213787

Meet-up level most recent outfit (price I paid for it)

>flower barettes 9€

>blouse 45€
>jsk 150€
>tights 7€
>shoes 40€
>bag 50€
>misc jewerly ~ 25€
~330€
That's the original price of the Lacroix bag I bought discounted last month. Granted, only the main piece is brand but it's a really complete outfit. I guess DYIing and thrifting a few accessories make the price drop.

>> No.8213805

I got as far as "there's no way that's right" and then realised you were right:

>basic ass dress, mid level: $50
>basic ass shoes, mid level, has lasted 2 years of daily wear: $70
>basic ass bag, also mid level, has lasted 3 years of hard wear: $70

Shit, $190 and that's not even dressed up.

(I could go lower, but imo everything lower-priced than these tends to fall apart after one month of use)

>> No.8213827

>>8213697
>Any good reason to do it?

I asked the question originally because a lot of lolitas said the coordinates costing was biased as a lot of items could have been reused. Now I wonder if I should have specified "take a photo of your wardrobe" instead of "how many coords", since the second is harder to visualise.

Anyway, other than doing it for insurance reasons like other anon suggests, or for keeping the historical cost at hand when you'd like to sell on something, I don't think there's much point in doing deep analysis on costing.

yeah i keep mine on google docs, and it's easy to just add a 'sold' column to calculate if you broke even/lost money/made a profit on sales. it's just a bit overwhelming to keep track of everything when i'm constantly buying/selling, and i feel so guilty every time i see the aggregate of what i've spent (especially on shipping holy crud)

>generic white lace tights: $10
>ebay lace ankle socks: $1.50
>Bodyline shoes: $40
>L-email wig: $15
>ebay pearl headband and accessories: $5
>AP purse from lucky bag: ~$30

Fuck, here goes. These are all rounded estimates, the only truly accurate one is for my dresses, which I have kept records of value for (in case I die, so they can be sold on for the correct price):

22 JSKs/ OPs: £4200
6 blouses: £250
Accessories/ socks: £3200

Total worth: £7650, approx $11,300

>> No.8216198

Just an estimate, haven't actually bought everything yet

>Salo - $70
>Socks - $20 (?)
>Beret - $7
>Shoes - $40
>Blouse - $40 from taobao
>Purse - $30
>Small accessories - $50 total

Total : $257

>>8213759
This is interesting too... I do most of my shopping at thrift stores (I live near a rich area and people are always dropping shit off with tags still attached) but

>casual pockety dress - $15
>sweater - $20
>tights (I only ever wear dance tights) - $11
>socks - $4? I buy 6-packs of regular socks
>boots - $30 from target

If winter
>coat - $15 (thank you Wet Seal black friday sale)
fleece tights - $20
>winter boots - $40
>extra sweater because I'm always cold - $20

Total $80 / $130 and that's mostly thrifted.

>> No.8218695

Some rough estimates...
Favorite coord:
> JSK - 250 USD
> Barette - 35 USD
> Beret - 80 USD
> Socks - 25 USD
> Shoes - 35 USD
> Ring + Necklace - 100 USD

Total: 525 USD, not including shipping and customs fees.

My whole wardrobe, very rough estimates:
> 15 main pieces: 2000 USD
> 12 Tops/Cardigans: 250 USD
> 12 pieces of Legwear: 300 USD
> 6 Bags: 250 USD
> 4 pairs of lolita specific Shoes: 150 USD
> 25-30 pieces of headwear: 350 USD
> ?? Misc Accessories: 350 USD

Total: 3650 USD, not including shipping and customs fees.

I spend too much on this hobby.
