I've always considered the most toxic people to be the fans of lolcow-tier girls who make sub-par cosplays and have no intention of improving their skills because "muh cosplay". They receive criticism purely because their cosplays are just fodder for "bad cosplay threads", but the fans of the pages make no effort to tell the truth about it and instead post shitty comments like "omg, your cosplay is great, haters gonna hate!". If I was in a position where I was making my cosplays public and wanted to create a fanbase, i'd actually want people to give me constructive criticism about my costumes. People who post those kinds of comments piss me off to no end, because they help propagate the whole little-snowflake culture.

I also find cosplayers are toxic to one another if they're not well known or aren't on the radar to be seen as good. I think it stems from the "your page likes define your popularity" so some cosplayers; particularly ones in fandoms like SNK, Homestuck and others that tend to be labelled as the cancer, then turn to other outlets as a means of popularity. Most go with the "feminism" route or the "Im not comfy with my gender/birth name" to garner more attention.

The key point they're missing is if they don't focus that energy in oh I don't know, getting better at cosplay then they wouldn't need such a large soapbox to cry on. They don't realise that to be well known; it takes so much effort.
