A lot of people seem to forget that. In most videos related to the most recent SU episodes and on the SU wiki it's people arguing about their sexes mostly and how Ruby and Sapphire are "lesbians". Any cosplay related stuff is related to skin color and weight. It's driving me nuts.

Normally I'm (cautiously) appreciative of Tumblr's attempts to diversify mainstream content, but bullshit like this pisses me off because they're erasing another non-white identity for blackness. That makes *you* part of the problem - creating a racial scale that has only white and black as the parameters and ignoring other underrepresented groups like Indians and East Asians, etc.

Somehow Homestuck still seem to attract a certain lol randum buckets XD type of fanbase, even now, even the new fans seem to adhere to this principle. The SU fandom is much more low key in that part. Yeah, there's a lot of "omg cute lesbians!!!!!" but apart from that and obnoxious "lel bird dorito meme" it's pretty chill, and more importantly the annoying is a new kind of annoyance so it's easier to overlook than "buckets!!!"

I absolutely expect to see a surge in Steven Universe representation at my next two or three cons. It's got at least five fresh designs (Peridot, Jasper, Ruby, Sapphire, Malachite) while Homestuck is stagnating on the same character roll with no new exciting outfits beyond fancied up fan designs. SU characters, sort of like Homestuck, vary in difficulty from basic humans to multi-arm crazy-wig fusions, so they're drawing in people of all skill and involvement levels.
