8161160 No.8161160 [Reply] [Original]

Seagulls, I need your advice. I'm getting married in August, and my fiance has decided that she wants to wear a lolita dress for the wedding. The budget isn't a problem, we would have to spend a lot on a dress to begin with. Her parents are letting us live with them a few months to help us save up for the wedding, and most of the other wedding expenses (venue, rings, cake, etc.) are already covered. I'm not particularly knowledgeable, but I've dated lolitas in the past. While she is doing a lot of searching on her own, I thought this would be a good place to round up some inspiration/ideas. She prefers longer dresses and skirts, classic designs, muted colors, and she isn't really into prints unless they're very simple/understated.

TL;DR, Lolita wedding dresses, and weddings in general.

Maybe you should get a more stable financial situation before you have to give up living in your own place for a few months for a day of celebrations.

The wedding is just one thing we're saving towards, we also want to mortgage a house instead of renting. I have the credit, but it's hard to save for a down payment while you're renting. I'm not a trust fund kid, and I just finished paying off medical debts for several asthma related emergency room visits. No offense intended, but some people have to make sacrifices to move forward in life.

I think Elpress has some nice longer dresses. Look into them?

It's a good idea in mind, but in real life and photos, lolita wedding dresses will look frumpy (due to non-model posture, too much going on in the shoulders/collarbone area, tea petticoat length, etc) or make her look like a child bride. Remember that your guests will all be wearing normal clothing.

It's better to get a dress that's lolita or retro inspired like this anon >>8161376, or alter a lolita dress. Have you looked on Modcloth?

Yeah I commissioned her 2-3 months ago. I haven't put any reviews up yet because I'm torn about the entire transaction. She was really sweet and all, but what a waste of my money.

I asked for the skirt to be AP length since I like my dresses to be above my knee, but she made the torso way too short, even though I said I had a longer torso. She also had to draft up a smaller pattern to fit my frame and forgot to adjust the armscye... so the torso was too short, and then arm hole was too small, making the dress ride up 2-3 inches. My seamstress had to let it out from the straps as well as opening up the armscye, but now the neckline sits so low on my chest that my bra is always exposed (not that it matters if I'm wearing a blouse) and the dress is still an inch too short for my taste.

Nope and if I had known I would have given it to her. She only asked me for my height, bust and waist measurement. She said she used the torso measurement in relation to my height or something. This was my first (and last) time commissioning a dress so I had no idea what I was supposed to give.

She paid for the cost of the alteration, which was $25, but that doesn't fix how awkward the dress sits on me anyway. After our conversation she said she's asking for the client's torso height now

BASICALLY if you are not her mannequin's size, I'd be a bit wary. I was much smaller than her dress form so she didn't catch the mistake until the dress was already finished and shipped off to me.

I've never been a fan of yellow gold in general, and definitely not big into diamonds. Got a white gold band and a heart-cut ruby for the gem. (Ring from Diamondere)

We are looking at getting wedding bands from JensHansen; they made the rings for the LOTR trilogy and The Hobbit. My fiance is and always has been big into Tolkien and I'm enough of a fan that I'd go for it. They've got everything from classic yellow gold to palladium for materials, and you can get them with the cheesy poem:

>One ring to show our love,
>One ring to bind us,
>One ring to seal our love,
>And forever to entwine us.

around the outside in Tengwar and a custom message or image engraved inside too.

If we don't go that really dorky route, I'm just gonna get the band that matches the engagement ring and he'll pick something he likes.

I saw Sailor Moon inspired rings somewhere that were nice--I'll see if I can hunt them down.
