I think that otome is such a loose style that there is no real classification/segregation needed? There's definitely a different aesthetic in JM and LG, but you can certainly like both or mix and match items.

Something about lolita is costumey which lends itself to have sub styles and themes so to speak. Otome kei is more just like regular people's clothing with whacky colours and prints in my view.

No please no. Otome is really casual and "do what you want", while lolita has so many rules and guidelines. The only reason substyles in lolita exist is because we need rules and categories like stupid.

How DID the sub styles come about anyway? And why does lolita come with lifestylers when you won't find that in any other kind of fashion? I think it's strange for lolita to be so focused on communities, both online and in person.

There used to be a lot of lifestyle mori girls that ran blogs but it seems that kinda died out in 2012.

I would love to see more blogs on otome kei. It seems like most people have just moved to tumblr though and aren't particularly interested in the traditional blog format.

Any recommendations for otome or mori kei blogs/tumblrs?

Thoughts on using these in otome and more otome-ish lolita coords? They remind me of Jane Marple's 4-strap shoes (although one strap short and admittedly nowhere near as nice).

Goth is very lifestyle-y, IMO. Things have changed a little in the past couple of years with people feeling less that they had to stick to one style or forever be branded a poser, but a lot of goths dress only in goth/black, decorate their rooms to match, listen to music that matches, etc. Certainly more goths do that than lolitas do.

Goths and hippies are EXTREMELY lifestyle oriented. The fashion only follows the mindset. Same goes for most western subculture fashions, because we used to give people flak for not being a "reeeeal" goth/metalhead or whatever while japaroos didn't. Now it's different but that mindset is still there in the west.

I think what is associated with lifestyle lolita is really fucking weird though. Lolita lifestyle originally was hanging around the streets like a punk, not trying to be some idealized Victorian girl whose hobbies are tea and backing and lady things.

I guess its more likely that people inclined to the lifestyle get into the fashion than the other way around but it does happen all over in alt fashions. If it has an ideallic lifestyle associated with it, there are people who follow it.

guys can you help me out? i found a japanese clothing store with a variety of brands but i cannot for the life of me remember the name of the store. it had one brand that was like "dioblo dieble" or something weird, also had a brand called barbie, but that doesn't help on google search. it had a lot of preppy/school type of clothes and some of the models looked like they were in middle school or something. kind of expensive as well.

I get most of my JM stuff off yahoo japan auctions. You can also buy it on lacemarket, mbok, grand bazaar lolita, egl_comm_sales and all the usual lolita resale places (go for Japanese sites over western markets).

This makes it seem like you never ever check anything but sales on Facebook, LM, or Egl Comm. There is a metric fuckton of Jane Marple stuff spread out over Y!J and Mbok as well as every resale shop.
