I think the main reason why there is a problem is because to probably every human on the planet the words 'official' will be taken to mean something officially published by DC or whoever. There really isn't, thats the sad state of UK cosplay scene. But it's also good in another way because the only ones that do get mentioned in the UK threads are not usually ones you want to be associated with and are generally people who likes to shit and badmouth others on social media statuses etc. Not worth mentioning vecause their names will come up in time no doubt.

The exception to the rule is Laura and Lex, because they're good at what they do. The events were varied, there weren't major time table clashes, everything ran on time.

There's a choice of 3 hotels to cater to 3 different price bands. Asda across the way, Ikea, TGIs, Frankie and Bennies and McDonalds within 10 minutes walk. God knows how many take out places and other restaraunts on the 20 minute away high street.

Kita's bar is far more expensive. So I'm not sure how the cost of the bar effects the quality of the con.

And decent looking cosplay is a matter of opinion and what you saw and when you saw it. Masquerade wise it's always the same, people take part because they want to. Not because it's a big competition for talent.

A lot of veteran cosplayers go to Minami but they use the con as an opportunity to chill out with their friends and do either silly/fun costumes, low effort/less visually impacting ones that they want to do because they love the character rather than because it's anything complicated or impressive, or rewears. Nobody really wants to faff with a complicated costume at Minami cos that's not what Minami is about. Even the masquerade judges get half-pissed before giving out the (silly) prizes. I only faffed about with a complicated costume this year because I'm not going to Ame or Kita. If you want high impact costumes, Minami ain't the place to go, cos we're all chilling in the bar XD

Beth's costumes....there's clearly some sex appeal that comes from the character's outfit. Now you could argue that the photos she's taking are just meant to show off the cosplay and therefore not being taken for sex-related purposes and therefore she's not committing a crime.

And it's a massive grey area if looking at it constitutes a crime. If you're getting off to it then it becomes a crime because you're using the photo for sex-related purposes. If you save the photo then you're probably committing a crime.

Me personally, looking at the statistics of what happens to girls and any vulnerable young person, I'd advise not doing obviously sexy costumes until you're 18+ and legally responsible for your actions.

If you're not comfortable with your parents seeing what you're doing. You already know you probably shouldn't be doing it.

But then there's the definition of what consitutes a sexy costume.

Panty from Panty and Stocking is a sex-related character. And you could argue her Little Red Dress is sexy by default.

But then is Asuka from Evangelion's yellow summer dress, which covers the same amount, sexy in the same way? Despite becoming a known sex-symbol of the 80s/90s. Or Vocaloid's Luka's Just Be Friend's white dress from a decidedly PG-13 POV.

It's a massive grey area. To be honest, for the safety of everyone involved, I think it would be in the MCM group's interest to put up rules about the level of clothing in photos posted, irrespective of age.

I know it seems restrictive but otherwise there's a fine line being walked of what constitutes distributing pornography. Child or not.

Minami was excellent. I did take photos but I've given them to the cosplayers to use, it's not my place to distribute them.

The con is great because people are so casual. The cosplays are either very very good or very very shit, but nobody cares because they just do it for fun and there's no real awards. People seem more willing to do stupid shit like crossplay Powerpuff Girls. It also makes it a perfect con for first timers as it's welcoming and still small enough to not overwhelm you.
It has fun and different events - cel painting, retrooke and Scalectrix are just some of the events that come to mind, but there's such a wide variety that you simply can't be bored. I only found one panel a bit dull this year (too many injokes to make it funny) but when I compare it to other cons it's really not a big deal. This year it had more events going on Saturday than Kita had for the entire event last year.

The venue is brilliant because of the great access to shops, bars and restaurants - especially in comparison to Expo or Kitacon. There's a reason it sells out so quickly every year. No a different subject, now FB has started deleting non active accounts, wonder whos going to lose loads of bought likes? Anyone got any UK related pages that have stupid amount of likes to interactions on their posts?

Take a guess. Hint #1: she's cosplayed this character about 20 times in the last 3 years. Hint #2: a load of younger, prettier cosplayers have started to play this character and Tabby looks haggard compared to some of them. I know that sounds mean but seriously, Tabby, try something new.

This would be great. There was a period when lots of cosplayers got thousands and thousands of likes out of nowhere. They all pretended to be surprised when their likes shot up. I wonder how surprised they will be if they disappear? I have heard this might happen before but it never did.

Not wishing to wake the kraken once more, but the first name that springs to mind is KJ's page. She's got 275k likes but her posts get less than 100 comments, often less than 40, and 25 or less shares with few exceptions. Most of those are the same few regulars, too. Quarter of a million likes with sub-100 people actually interacting screams dead accounts and bought likes.

To be fair you can get spam accounts following without having bought them. Just look at what happened on Instagram recently - they deleted all fake accounts and everyone lost followers, not just the big 'famous' people

There's a difference between bought likes and likes that come from advertising. I doubt many cosplayers actually buy likes. Sometimes facebook glitches, and pages gain a stupid amount over night (like Variable. She's a nice girl, no way would pay for 500K likes)

That is low, but organic reach is something like 6% she doesn't really post or interact much so facebook will kill her reach.

stacey gets less and tabitha gets even less than her, it's funny you guys have to keep focusing on kelly. her picture posts tend to get 1-2k+ likes which I would be pretty happy with tbh..

prretty much this. facebook engagement hit a lot of cosplayers pages lately. my page is pretty small (less than 10k) and I'm lucky if 10% of people see my stuff.

Yeah the 'pay for your followers to see you' thing Facebook has done is bullshit. I have about 1000 on my page and I average 50 people seeing my posts

They all paid for likes so they could be perceived as a bigger deal and get invites to cons. There was a month when the 'big' UK cosplayers all shot up a ridiculous amount and then it just went back to normal. It's made worse if they then try and make out that being cosfamous isn't important to them and it was never their plan because they are too cool for that.

Its no point, because it all it does is limit your reach and actually makes it worse for real fans of your page who may not be the selected random percentage that will get to see your updates. So what happens is you end up with 1000's of likes on your page, but 1 or 2 likes on your actual posts. Dead give away that.

She should be careful. Imagine how a big international cosplayer like Yaya would handle that sort of request. There's a pecking order and Tabby is pretty low down it from an international perspective.
