Is it unbecoming for women to like cute things?

Generally, most of the stuff on this board would be artifacts of girlhood. Most contemporary adults would put this kind of frills and such away in favor of more mature clothing by the age you are at.

Doesn't it bother you that only kids and fags like cute stuff?

Someday, you want to be with a handsome man right? There's no way you'll find one interested in this kind of costumes, he'll probably be short, fat or nerd, because otherwise they have no reason to like this stuff. Not very conducive for a future if you ask me.

Not really replying to whatever the fuck this is but in general, when people make comments about "don't you want to be with a man" I can never tell if they are serious or not because I find it hard to believe people still have this kind of mindset about women and yet somehow some people do still think like this.

For me it's hilarious because men are disgusting and I'm asexual with no desire to be in a romantic relationship so when people say shit like that I'm like, "Nah but thanks for playing."

Blows my fucking mind when you people act so uppity about people thinking your outfits are weird. You are part of a niche group of people who are a very closed off group of people as it and you expect them to realize what Lolita fashion is? You obviously don't wear your outfits out "just because" or because "it's comfy" - you're out for attention from everyone else or you want to so overly-glam yourself that you want to keep your ego up even in a crowd of strangers. It's honestly quite pathetic, and I'm a fat, single neckbeard who can't cosplay worth a shit and has no fashion sense. Sure, there's some great outfits, but most of it is ita strictly because of the personality behind the people wearing them.

You're a bunch of degenerate attention-whores who spend absorbent amounts of money on clothes to boost your self-esteem instead of learning better social skills and picking up more productive hobbies. Hell, what do you plan on doing with your life in 10 years? 20 years? Are you going to be a 40 year old mom who sports lolita everywhere because you can't grow up? I'm a weeb but at least I barely drop any money on anime and I don't let my "hobbies" completely devour me as a person. Fuck, just seeing you fashion autists sends me into a sperglord rage.

Well do you have any counter-argument to anything I've said? Do you want to bother, that is? It's splitting hairs, the pot calling the kettle black, but I honestly find a lot of cosplayers more repugnant than fat, greasy weebs. And being an outsider, the most I can possibly imagine making outfits can help with it being a seamstress, if that - don't you guys just buy your outfits anyways?

I know a chick who literally just works two jobs strictly to pay for outfits, gas money and convention tickets so she can go to every convention humanly possible, get glammed up and stagedive into photoshoots to eat up the attention. It's all she does. She has no other hobbies, she has no other interests and she has no long-term goals. I don't believe that buying cosplay makes you a good cosplayer, so I don't. Besides, I'd rather spend my money elsewhere like vidya gaems. It's also reassuring that if anyone expresses any disinterest or animosity, it makes them immature. That's a great statement; very convincing!

>You just called an entire group of people 'degenerate attention-whores' because you're fucking jealous of them.

Why the fuck would I be jealous of a bunch of ostentatious, self-absorbed girls who use cosplay and fashion as a crutch for their emotional needs? Not calling all lolita fashion girls out, that is, but a good lot of you know you're guilty. It's nothing to be ashamed of since everyone has problems but it's certainly not enviable. Lots of lolitas handmake dresses or accessories. I've been sewing since I was eight, but just recently got into lolita, so I haven't made anything yet.

Most lolitas have other hobbies and interests. Lolita fashion might just be the most expensive. Loads like anime and video games. Lots like sewing, knitting, or crafting. Lots are into sports or exercise. Lolitas are pretty varied as a group and individually may be into pretty much every hobby anyone else could be into.

The people on this board like to blow off stream from their regular lives by admiring new dresses, chatting about their experiences wearing the fashion, gossiping, or whatever comes to mind. It's not really any different than people who chat about the latest anime, what their daily experiences are, birdwatching, politics, sports, the news. It's just another thing to talk about.

As for personal responsibility, many of the lolitas with bigger wardrobes have well paying jobs that allow them to afford new items regularly. Others might save up and treat themselves. Why do you care if other people are buying things that make them happy?

As for this topic, it's just about the mild frustrations of being asked the same inane questions by people that are curious or annoyed about why you dress differently than most. This is just a tongue-in-cheek exercise to illustrate all the conclusions other people jump to. Don't be mad.

I believe you when you say that you are not jealous, but I would rather call you a hypocrite. Really, anon, is spending money on clothes, that can be used to be an ice breaker (as many lolita's found here for comm's) for socialization, or to present themselves in public really all that pathetic. For fuck sakes, at least we are going outside rather than staying in a basement all day. Is you hobby of video games holier than thou when all you do is basically stare at a screen and press buttons all day? For the love of fuck, I play video games too but I know what is a waste of time and what is not; and video games are on the productive hobby spectrum. Besides, it's not like people that play them are all perfect angels.

Most of the lolitas I know and associate with have decent to good jobs, many in established relationships with their shit together. Granted, I'm older and by this point if you're still living in your mother's basement getting uguu kawaii with your 2 day a week minimum wage fast food job there's something going on. Yeah, this happens, but by and large you need money to afford this shit. There are plenty of stories of people mooching or getting sugar daddies, but the majority of us do the decent thing and work.

Married, we're home owners, I may not have a degree but I have a full time job and I do decent things on the side related to interests to make extra money to afford lolita as well as other hobbies.

Please do not make broad generalizations because you just know this one girl. Most of us are pretty responsible.

This thread by and large is just about the kind of reactions you get in public wearing this stuff by normal people who don't know better. No one is getting offended, salty or upset that it happens. It's just sharing common and often humorous experiences. Nothing more.

Care to tell us your carefully mapped out plan for the future, which university you attend, your GPA, extracurricular activities, where you see yourself in 20 years, current job and income level, etc. etc? Because for a fat, single, neckbearded weeb "with no fashion sense" (or other redeemable qualities?) you seem really eager to cast judgement on someone who works two jobs so they can afford the lifestyle that makes them happy. I'm not saying it's a wise decision, but neither is diabetes and congestive heart failure, which you may be at risk for, based on your assumed weight and lifestyle habits. (Sitting on your ass playing video games, sitting on your ass saving mediocre animu pictures, sitting on your ass whining at girls on the internet, and so on.)

Oh god, this is bringing me back. One time I went with a friend into the city, we were both in lolita and underage (16) so her dad was with us. Her dad is a security guard for events/people, so he wore his badge thing from his last job, his jacket, and his earpiece. So happy my coord involved a tiara, bitches thought we were from another country and rich af/famous/whatever. A few people came up all nervous expecting that we couldn't speak English. And if some creepy/rude person came up to us, my friend's dad would go up to them and be like, "I need you to step back." and hold his arm out all professional-like.

So sad she's not into lolita anymore, no more cool experiences like this. But she did give me one of her dresses, so that's ok.

She asked, "So how much does an outfit cost?" And I just stared because I didn't want to be rude or make it sound like I was flashing money about but she prodded me, so I told her a few hundred dollars. She almost seemed insulted, then asked me about cheaper options. At this point I was getting a little fed up so I just told her to google a site called "Taobao" and said I had someplace to be. Well too bad, she cant afford it. Some things are more expensive, not your problem if she cant afford it. Throwaway fashion has wrecked real clothing. Lolita is on the low end of pricing in mid tier fashion brands. Many lolitas complain about how expensive it is, but what they don't realise is that other fashion brands will cost far more than lolita, and their clothing often uses less materials and less time consuming details to make.

I've even got this at conventions, where you'd think people would be aware of the concept of wigs. Guess they're just used to fake-looking cosplay ones.

It's kind of reassuring actually. Whenever I go out in a wig I feel paranoid that it looks like a wig and people will think I'm really weird/a prostitute/got cancer as a result, but normalfags just don't have much awareness of realistic wigs' existence, so it doesn't occur to them that you might be wearing one. While out in a general alternative outfit with a wig with a beanie on top, one girl started gushing at me about how perfect my dye job was and how she wished she could get a gradient fade like that. She was shocked when I told her it was a wig even though it wasn't a particularly realstic one.

I have a few friends who currently have or used to have crazy colored hair and they encounter the complete opposite - people on the streets are convinced it just has to be a wig, even when there are no bangs and show a little roots.

To the point when they had their hair yanked without a word let alone permission while on the bus like a DOZEN times. And it just boggles me so much, because there is absolutely no positive outcome: you either painfully pull on their real hair, rip a lock off a wig or remove it completely from a strangers head (publicly to boot).
Every single of those scenarios warrants a beating.

Guys like to believe girls have impossibly high standards to justify their own shortcomings in dating and not feel any need to change or improve. But then it turns out girls are actually quite happy dating regular guys, just not him in particular and he perceives that as a great global injustice.

>fedora spergs all over a girl trying to impress her into a date
>she refuses
>well of course she did, she wants some fantasy 10/10 stone abs prince with a private yacht and a foot long dick, bet she'll die alone lol
>girl starts dating a nice normal 6/10 guy

they only whine when they can't get any fanny and blame all their problems on women "not knowing what they want" and "having shit taste"
It's the same kind of people who shit on others for liking different things.

Honestly, a lot of people like many different things. I wouldn't mind dating a babyfaced prettyboy, but I definitely wouldn't be opposed to dating a muscled meathead so long as he is a genuinely nice person. The thing about gymbros is that they tend to be douchebags into having ons with clubgirls so that's why some people avoid them.

I think people aren't in a special mindset when they say that. It's more that they want you to have someone in your life that will be the closest person you'll ever meet.
Even people in a relationship faces thing in their life where they are all alone. Be it the suffering of losing someone dear to you or something else, there are times when no one can help you and you're all alone in front of your suffering.
A significant other can be the one thing stable in your life, the other person might be the crutch until you get better, the other half that will help you feel full again.

I might be optimistic, but I'm mainly talking about older people who know how hard it is to be alone. It's often parents and grandparents who talk about that, not your same-age friend who just think your vagina is going to close if you don't have someone boning you once every week.

>> No.8164334

>>8164328
I've never really had older people say that sort of thing to me, it's always been young people with the mindset that sex is VERY important and probably bitter that I don't care what they think.

Your explanation about why somebody might say such things is good though and I think a lot f times when older people say that, that is probably usually the reason, though I'm sure there are some churchy types who feel marriage MUST happen and you MUST have babies.

some of my acquaintances used to comment about how my relationship is "totally over" because I don't have wild animal sex with my boyfriend 5 times a week on every surface in the house
fucking hell, it's been 3 years since and we're still together, yet they STILL sometimes comment about it
I don't go around calling people loose harlots when they have sex outside of a relationship, so why do you care about mine?

>> No.8164347

That makes sense, but if they say it in response to excentric fashion choices it's still extremely douchey. It's
>Don't you want to find love? It's great to have a SO who cares for you
VS.
>Nobody will ever love you if you dress like that!
If you're looking for someone who will truly love you and will always be there for you, wearing poofy clothes from time shouldn't be a dealbreaker. Hell if someone threatens to break up with you over fashion choices they probably aren't The One anyway, so why bother even trying with someone like that?

I think they mean in the sense of being sexually compatible with one another. If there's a guy who wants to only have sex once a week while his partner wants it everyday, there's bound to be problems with the relationship. The outcomes can vary from the high sex drive person cheating on their partner, or the guy gives in and has sex everyday as a way of satisfying his partner for the sake of keeping the relationship going.

>mfw I was asked if I was in a play by a taxi driver at 8:30am on Christmas Eve when I was going in to work

I was wearing jeans, doc martens and a peacoat with my hair up in a bun.
I thought I was just having an auditory hallucination from being asked that so many times in lolita.

Apparently it was my makeup that made him ask. (I'm goth-level pale and I try to brighten my face a little with pink blush. So normalfags think obviously I'm part of the Beijing Opera or something.)

I just tried to laugh a little and said I think actors usually get their makeup done for them... IN the theatre... a little closer to curtain call...

I don't do it badly. I've posted myself in draw threads a few times and no remarks were made. It's just that foundation that matches your skin colour and pink blush is less popular here than heavy fake tan, tidemarks, and bronzer.

I live in a very small town but i wear lolita everyday, so here are some of the things that have been said to me since i started wearing lolita out.
> "Have you lost your sheep?"
> "Are you one of those lesbians now?"
> "Are you going to a gypsy wedding?"
> "Are you not embarrassed?"
> "Does your mother know you dress like that?"
> "Did you loose a bet?"
> "Why aren't you wearing normal clothes?"
> "Are you on the game?"
> "Are you a CanCan girl?"

as well as many other insulting things. it usually gets a far better reaction in the city, people usually just say it's nice and ask to take my photo there. but in my town, i've gotten some shocking responses. not to mention the amount of times drunks or rowdy men pull up my skirt passing by. It kind of sucks how they react but in the end of the day, i wouldn't stop wearing Lolita just because people are retarded.
