Bucket List edition.
Old thread >>8136769

I'm curious, what's your bucket list of things you'd like to accomplish in LARP? Kits to make, schemes to execute, Characters to play, factions to found, even LARPs you'd like to run/participate in. As for me...

>Capture a bard and re-enact misery
>Join an adventuring party and use them to pull a 'Collateral'.
>Ikko Ikki Monk Kit
>Eastern Europe Lamellar/Plated Mail Kit
>Elizabethan Musketeer Kit
>Be a part of a merchant league/republic
>Play a merchant that is basically Vampire Patrick Bateman.
As for you, anons?

My larp bucket list contains a lot of things, some more achievable than others. Some of them are:

> Run a dieselpunk-fantasy-wuxia larp, something along the lines of Legend of Korra
(very far future)
> Run a proper Age of Piracy (18th century) larp
(serious lack of ships and sea)
> Run a Shadowrun larp
(also far future)
> Get the setting guidebook for the larp I run (Chronicles of Demgard) properly published
(project started, ETA 12 months)
> In related news, improved fame and brand recognition for Chronicles of Demgard
(in progress, it's already one of the two longest-standing larp campaigns in Hungary)
> Go to College of Wizardry
(shitton of money and really good timing so I can snatch a ticket, also need to convince someone to come with me because it's way more fun to get lost in Poland in groups than alone)
> Improve recognition, respect and whatever for larp as a hobby in general
(also in progress)
> Buy/build a castle and live in it
(still haven't bought a lottery ticket)
> Accept the surrender of a far superior force
(I actually almost managed that once - after I stated in a 7 v 40 situation that I accept their surrender, they refused, then we had to kill all of them, but that's an entire different story)
> Mow down a shitton of foes in battle
(Partially achieved, but I still need to git gud even more)

I also have a shitton of other smaller player-goals but I can't really describe them well enough to get them into a list.

I have always hated that alliance didn't have the balls to do what all the tabletop RPGs they try to be have been doing since the start. And as always every time I see mention of religion on the alliance forums I see people coming out of the woodwork to say they support no religion so that "no one gets offended" and then talk in the most cringingly fedora ways about how it would only add conflict in game.

The best kind of conflict. I once played a setting that had 40k's chaos gods, an animal ring origin story with totem deities, interloper gods (so basically any god your character claimed existed, existed), maltheists who want to destroy the gods and have humanity rule supreme and an immortal human NPC trying to become the one and only god by stealing parts from the animals and pressing the world's reset button.

Needless to say, hilarity ensued

so far either nobody believed it or they believed it but I didn't played a good willing guy
>be a standard bearer in a landsknect group
not gonna happen in the next few years...

>actually learn how to fight...
project started, don't know when I can confidently say that I can fight

>go to some kind of airsoft larp with a team where we play ukrainian mafia and bring a trabant or a lada and squatting everywhere, much slav
one day...

>bring a party of hunters to a vampire game where they at least cooperate a little and actual flashbang grenades are allowed. May or may not the hunter group will be ukrainian mafia members who think that the vampires ruin their business.
because we all know that flashbangs can improve EVERY social situation.

and there are a fuckton of other things. I mean I have FUCKING AWESOME plans ALL the time. But most of the time another hungarian larpfag vetoes them...

But then again I already achieved a lot in my bucket list

As for the schemes, I'd really like to be able to become a larp's spymaster, though that would be the polar opposite of the paladin.

Aside from that, I've pulled off pretty much every scheme I wanted to, aside from one.

oh yeah and I must mention another two fun things

First is the unicorn attack force. much fabulous, much deadly.

The other will be done when both another hungarian larpfag and me will be old. We will go to a larp and he will play a fucksmith nad I will be a cock carver. We will have our shops in the opposite side of a street and constantly shittalk each other while we try to sell our stuff. And of course we will tell old man wisdom to everyone who listens (and for those who don't listen too, we are very convincing) like taking a good shit is better than a bad sex, or that carrots can improve your libido you just have to tie it to your dick tightly, stuff like that

Tsigani, Zigeuner, Cigány, Strigoi etc is the localized Kompania for the ethnic groups they settled in based on the Greek word tsinganoi. It means unclean or untouchable. My family is Zingari- Italian Romani.

But this is a point of argumnent amongst the inernational Rom community. I agree it's silly, but it also adds some interest to the game by *not* having religion. I think religious conflict is an overused trope, and I'm happy that players have to think of better ways to create their conflict other than 'my religion doesn't get along with your religion.'

I'd be... fine with it if they decided to instate religion, but they have animal totems and ancestor spirits, which fill the gap that a religion would fill, and you don't get 'yet another crusader character from a newb.'

I mean, if you want religion in a game, go to another game.

Here's another Alliance rule to send you all into a frothing rage:
>Rape literally doesn't exist in the Alliance world. It is literally impossible.

I also like that rule because it keeps newbs from having 2dark&edgy4u backstories.

Or they could take their inspiration from any number of nonchristian religions that have no issues with religious conflict.

Yeah but then why? I can't see a reason to have a religious character with NO chance for conflict other than showing off cool props, which you can already do with the formal magic system. You may get some roleplay from people asking you why you get up so early in the morning to preform your rites, but then that will be the end of it. It may add a little immersive flavor, but no more than the current pseudo-religion/magic does.

To be clear, I am in no way concerned about religious people getting their panties in a twist, I just don't think adding religion would do anything that hasn't been seen hundreds of times before.

Ugh, yes. Those are pretty annoying. But on the other hand I never had more fun than when I was running around as a missionary preacher in a norse-inspired setting. That's fair, it's really tough to completely remove religious words from our lingo. I know our game doesn't actively correct people who stub their toe and accidentally say it. >Why?

Off the top of my head, it helps differentiate between casters. I might be alone in this, but the larp I'm attending has different optional spells for different gods, and I quite enjoy the fact that not everyone can pick domains (to use the FR term) at random, and just powergame like hell, or that the wizards have far more options, but from a completely different tree.

Another thing others might find strange is that I enjoy there being impersonal reasons for doing things. Like the god of justice might perform his healing differently from the trickster god, or choose not to heal certain people, or helping people against thec casters will, because the god would demand it... I'd think restricting yourself this way can lead to good roleplay. If there's no hard and fast rules and defined gods, people will make out of character choices that benefit them because "the spirits will no doubt approve", as though the spirits are their servants.
You run no risk of falling if your god is ill-defined.

Truish. It tends to be rife among the tryhardy warbands, the Order probably being the most infamous for it, a certain organiser being considered the worst of the lot. The worst are those who loudly discount hits on dubious claims of hitting too hard, despite wearing gambesons and in some cases proper armor *cough*officerofmarsupialnature*cough*.

I encourage joining the few outright villain warbands, or making your own, as they tend to be friendlier and more lighthearted because they realise the dearth of evil in this game is a void that must be filled. If I had a ducat for every character backstory involving chaos, who don't even exist anymore...

The tale of Chaos is a bit of a sad one. They used to be one of the biggest and most powerful, but being the only evil major power at the time (Orcs never being entirely serious and Undead being SC's jobber despite being one of the largest at the time) meant that everyone would just gang up on them during quest. Which was sad, because they were always one of the most fun. (Ramble continuing, 1/2)

>> No.8151756

I've given my tier list before, but these are the warbands I strongly recommend joining/improving for the health of Swordcraft, as we really need villains.

Ravenna.
NotRome. Really all there is to say. Top tier costuming, they accept auxilia as well.

Obligatory Orc Shoutout. We're having talks about accepting more tolkeinian "Industrialised evil" rather than WHFB orcs, so there's room for a more credible threat.

Scorpion Sect
SPLITTERS. In all seriousness, while they're lead by my least favorite black rose officer, I still respect him to some degree, and he took most of the best black rose members with him who have some real creativity and affability, though there's one or two I'm not a big fan of. More Egyptian/Arabian 'Tomb King' inspired undead.

Order of the Black Rose. While a significant chunk defected to the Scorpion Sect and Corsairs (I heard rumors of specifically targeting Undead members for recruitment in the latter case, but there's nothing I see that's too wrong with that), and I defected to the Orcs because I just had more fun with them than the OBR's current sorry state, there's still a lot of irregular members that still show up now and then, and I hear whispers of a big gear purchase....

Honorable Mentions of Chillness.
Bandits.
Briarwolves.

Or we could help make my merchant league/republic dream a reality.

The pitch: It'll be about the kind of over the top mercantilism that made capitalism a preferable alternative.

To expand. Monopolisation, corporatism, bribery, lethal internal politics, shameless harvesting/excavating of important religious, cultural and environmental sites, all played for dry humor rather than the all too common lolrandumb epic meme spouting.

The out of character organisation would be strict yet democratic. Rather than the Dictatorial or Anarchic structures of other warbands, there would be an elected council and a constitution.

Strict costuming would apply. No tricornes, no corsets, no jeans, no obviously foam/plastic equipment, no akubras, no stalhelms (I shit you not, there's a couple floating around). Can't provide provable progress on making or acquiring kit in a month, yer out.

I'd also like to cultivate a culture of honesty and criticism. Some people like me are dense as a black matter anvil, and a lot of communication's lost in politeness. I'm not excluding myself from this, and I expect you to hold me to my elitist standards.

As for culture/period, I'll allow that up for further discussion, though I'd be a fan of basing it off one of the following.

Only thing I can be qualified to tell you about Averland that I haven't already said is that unlike most warbands they're primarily focused on polearms and 2-handed weapons. A pike square if you will. Despite SC's shield wall meta they're doing pretty well for themselves.

Apart from that I can't tell you much. You'll have to ask. Still, most warbands will happily accept anyone who asks as far as I'm aware, will usually have spare kit, and incidences of people getting kicked out tends to be pretty rare and exceptional, for better or worse.

You have to spend at least your first night in the blue or red militia, the newbie factions, blue being lead by a Black Knight, and Red being lead by a Landsknecht Giant (Seriously, the dudes fucking huge). AFAIK the shield's the only identification you're given, so it'd be polite to do so. If you bring friends they'll try to put you in the same team. They spend the first half of the night off the oval teaching you the rules and manners, sparring, couple team skirmishes. Second half is when they put you on the field, and will tell you information about the warbands you're near. People will usually try to show off for the newbies, and if you bring costume on your first night everyone'll try to poach you. You can stay in the newbie warband for the next 3 weeks you come in, but after your first night you're pretty much free.

Just remember, no groin, head, hand or foot hits, don't hit too hard, be honest about your hp, and identify your allegiance when asked.

Good luck with that.

The knights templar were disbanded in 1314. full plate armour doesnt appear till about 1300, and then its coat of plates and plate limb defences. The "full plate" you're probably imagining comes from about 180-220 years after the Templars ceased to exist.

Templars, in the crusade, would've worn a maille hauberk over a padded gambeson, a coif, probably with a flat-topped heaume, and a surcoat.

no plate at all.

here's a pattern for a Wisby coat of plates, however. Skip the shoulders, make arms and legs fo rit, and you're plausible for the very end of the templars.

Trademark bout of indecision again. All this talk of dreams I sparked actually kinda makes me want to be apart of the merchant republic warband I ideally want to be in. I think a Novgorod themed faction would be more unique in SC apart from the Western European and SEA themed warbands. But I also worry about whether anyone would join, and whether I would crack apart under leadership. While I'm also quite familiar with EE Armor, I know jack shit about EE clothing.

If I don't follow my passion, am I admitting defeat to all the needlessly convoluted yet unimaginative snowflake warbands and faction suggestions ripped verbatim from fiction? The 'lol ima wearing a man corset/no shirt lol so randumb XD llllllllllladies' crowd? For crying out loud people are still making 'Cake is a lie' jokes. kind of, but this is /cgl/ and a slow thread to boot, so I'm not complaining. If you want EE military garb, I'd recommend looking at the better-documented poles and Slavic mercs employed by the Italians. It's a little easier to stomach for a lot of people who are more used to western fantasy, which could be important for getting a faction off the ground.

http://www.myarmoury.com/feature_armies_italy.html -the stradiot they picture are decent indications

http://www.myarmoury.com/feature_armies_poles.html -and the Poles.

also any of Osprey's books on Eastern Europe should be excellent.

I personally love the idea of an EE faction, myself. They're not usually represented in fantasy.

>Knight gets into the front of the cart, I squish into the back
>/fit/bro NPC starts dragging the cart
>It probably wasn't going that fast, but because of how close we are to the ground it feels like a rollercoaster
>Cling to the cart for dear life as we start going around and in and out of the campsite
>Roll between buildings and a bunch of trolls poke their heads out over the roof
>They start raining arrows down on us
>Nearly fall out of the cart going around corners
>Glad to be alive when the ride finally ends

Here's a photo from one of the few times it wasn't raining. I had to keep my mask up for half of game because the rain kept fogging it up and I couldn't see through the lenses.

A popular fad maybe 2 years ago here in the US scene was to make 'ultra-light' weapons for touch games using carbon cores, lightweight fiber tape, and this ridiculous foam they use in airplanes. The swords would weigh less than your hand. Total bullshit.

I'm glad the US has moved away from them and more towards realistic latex weapons. I think everyone realized that the speed you got with them didn't make up for what a gigantic douche you looked like wielding them.

This keeps being said to me, do I just live in the one US state that's in an alternate dimension where nobody whines about bruises and everyone makes an effort?
At least here, the ultra lights were introduced to our game like two years ago by amtguard stick jocks, and they were insanely popular for a little while because they were faster and looked objectively a little better than sloppy duct tape dick swords, but then everyone found out how quickly they disintegrate/break and one player got a really nice set of latex swords that looked really cool and everyone is on the latex/plastidip bandwagon now.

Most of the game now is either latex weapons, or nicely made, carefully decorated dickswords.

I think you vastly overestimate medieval tailoring. It took until about the mid 14th century for sleeves to not simply be tacked on to the edge of a rectangle with a center hole for the head, and a seperate gusset for added mobility.

>> No.8161820

Yes, I know that (though I'd argue about your dating, we see deeply inset sleeves by 1344, Romance of Alexander). And it's a 15th century kit. By the end of the century, you can see the shoulder seam going right through the middle of the shoulder joint, no lower.

My first 'armor' (metal plates sewn into the fabric, made nearly 7 years ago) I did with the pre-quilted stuff. It wasn't too bad, actually. I still own it. Obviously it isn't as good as cotton batting would be, or wool, but I appreciate how easy it is to work with/wash.
You have to french seam that shit if you're not going to line it, though. otherwise it frays quickly and gets tiny bits of batting everywhere.

Obviously it isn't ideal, but it isn't uncomfortable and looks pretty good.

I use a full foam shield. But it's done with a rigid layer of form foam as a backing, softer foam on the front.
It's hefty enough to block blows from two handed weapons and even managed to blocked an angry orc from rushing a breach with his body.

I'm making a new cloak and a padded gambeson so I don't freeze all my extra limbs off, but I'm having a tough time finding a good border embroidery pattern that looks rustic, inconspicuous, and spooky. I'm trying to do quilting style embroidery where it's all one line, and I've been trying to put together a monstrous face or maybe a dying animal. Something nobody will notice until they get really close to me and admire my hems.

Or really any natural fabric.
Since we're on the 'best ever' theme, I would love to successfully die (Alliance offers multiple deaths, with the chance of dying permanently growing higher each time) doing something suitably awesome. I've never died as my spider character, and my old 'lolgypsies' character only died once because she was assassinated for stuff that was going on in my ex girlfriends plot.
Pic slightly related, it's from another time I got kidnapped for her plot. Socks got kidnapped a lot. I'm still knocked out in the photo.

What is this? Amateur hour? No sir, if I want a nice border on a thing I'm going to spend dozens of hours hand embroidering it.

That fabric looks super cool, though.

I finally decided on a design. My spider is really into calligraphy, so I'm doing a quote from Shakespeare translated into Latin, embroidered in cursive around the hems. Should be subtle enough that people won't even realize it's words unless they look closely. Pic is my design for the gambeson-ish thing, then around all the edges I'll embroider the words.

Van Warim-seems to be restructuring at the moment with leadership being passed over to a new lot

Dragon Corp-really good, good people, good fighters and good kit

Briar wolves- some are ok, but you wont enjoy quest and the leader is a strange one

Orcs-some of the best RP but it isnt for everyone you either want to orc or not be orc

Ravenna-not romans, really good except when their leader is leading them

Boars-Dying warband due to leadership issues, well kitted and good guys but just arent functioning and dont really have a niche

Bandits-not too sure about this lot, they seem to be in bed with the van warim a little too much for my tastes but they are very effective skirmishers

Eldar-wankers

Undead- used to be huge and now it is small cool guys but just cant seem to hold recruits
very good RP and kit also HANDS

Scorpions-small skirmish warband pretty cool guys but no real impact on field

Averland-Really good guys, former Free company and Order veterans regimented and really good kit, probably the best fighters 1 for 1 at swordcraft

Eastern Star- seems pretty closed a rather middle ground warband tbh

Black Powder Brigade-2 people, not an actual warband no matter how identifiable their kit is, the leader is quite a whiner too

Rogues Battallion-shit fighters, shit attitude, shit leader, shit kit. dont even bother.

Cult of Flaming Crown-new chaos warband nothing much to say about it just yet

Order- Finally might actually be stable after the State troops all left and formed Averland, be wary though as one of the leaders is quite a troublemaker

Breton- Ok warband, Restructuring at the moment and nolonger anywhere near as good as they used to be, quite a few dicks in the warband

Anywho, shill time. I thought on how I could differentiate my warband idea from others, specifically the corsairs, and I suppose the difference would be legitimacy/plausible deniability. Before plundering resources they'd bribe a judge for the land rights, or catch the locals out in fine print. They'd make sure to manipulate the facts around their business aquisitions, as far as the populace is concerned they're just the polite new owners of the local shops, unaware of the forged paperwork used to obtain the deed and the previous owners begging in the alley behind the stall.
