I vaguely remember a perfume sales lady at the mall telling me that everybody's skin has a different smell chemistry. So something that smells yummy on you might smell like poop on me. That's why it's important to spritz a little on your wrist and see how it works on you.

My boyfriend has a much better sense of smell than I do so I sometimes take him along with me when shopping for scents, but he always tells me that my skin smells much better bare than with perfume on it and when I wear a scented product he complains. I'm not sure if I just have the kind of skin chemistry that doesn't work with most perfumes or if my boyfriend is a weirdo...

>> No.8159877

>>8159599
It's possible it's a mixture of both; I have a hard time finding perfumes that don't go weird on my skin, even if I really, really like them in the bottle. I end up just spritzing my hair since that usually doesn't mess with the scent (though you have to do it lightly and not often since perfume can be very drying on your hair, unless it's an actual hair mist).

I think a lot of men actually prefer the scent of bare skin; there was a trend in fragrance recently (not sure if it's still going on) where the point was to smell like skin.

So, what's a good, CLASSY scent (preferably with a nice bottle) that I can wear for everyday? I was at the mall and I liked Dior's Miss Dior and Chanel No. 5. Are they "cheap" scents (I don't think they are but I really don't want to smell like a hooker)?

This is the perfume I'm currently using. If you're unfamiliar with it, it smells very much like Coco Mademoiselle. I usually put on some body spray and then perfume on top, but recently I've noticed something. I fucking hate the body sprays I have. I've been using Victoria's Secret sprays for years, and I guess I just woke up one day and decided I hated them. I'm not sure what to do now. I suppose I could wear the perfume with no body spray, but I always liked having a light, easily sensed scent and then a perfume that becomes more apparent as you get closer. Do you guys have any body spray recommendations? Or at the very least some brands to look into?

p much what >>8162593 said, also don't douse yourself in the shit and you should be fine. IMO fruity fragrances work best when applied sparingly. One or two spritzes should be fine, any more than that and it's overkill.

A person shouldn't be able to smell your perfume if they're more than average conversation distance away, nor should you leave a cloud of your perfume when you walk away. The ideal is that someone should be able to catch a light whiff as you walk by; just enough for them to turn their head to follow the scent, but not enough so that they can smell it after you leave.

Sorry for so many posts, but continuing on smells that are "fruity" without being offensive: Dot by Marc Jacobs is a nice generally-fruity fragrance.

Ralph by Ralph Lauren has been around a while, and for good reason imo; it strikes a good balance between fruity, floral, and clean, without being too heady.

The Daisy family (also by Marc Jacobs) leans more towards the fruity side despite the name; iirc, Eau So Fresh is the fruitiest of them.

Light Blue by Dolce & Gabbana is in the citrus family rather than "fruity" smells; it's very light and refreshing, and entirely office-appropriate.

I've heard the immune system thing before; like you're genetically different enough to produce healthy children and that's what you're smelling. I've also read that some people speculate that the use of birth control pills may be one of the causes of higher divorce rates because when you're pregnant (which the pill makes your body think it is) you want to be around people who are genetically similar to you since they will be more likely to help you raise your baby. So when people who are married go off the pill to try and conceive, all of a sudden the scent of their partner is unattractive to them because they smell like they share genetics/have an incompatible immune system and aren't optimum to conceive with. It's just theory, but it's an interesting one.

Smell is the sense that's probably most closely tied to memory; it's the most "animalistic" of your senses and it's the only one that's processed and interpreted before it reaches the higher levels of your brain (it's been years since I've been in school so I may be off a little but I think that's the idea of it). There are many people who love/hate weird smells because of the memories associated with them. Pro tip: if you want to remember a very significant day, such as your wedding, buy a perfume that's new (but that you like) and only wear it on that day. Then, when you want to remember that day, on say your anniversary, wear the perfume again and you'll get the same feeling.

The two best foundations I have found for long-time wear (along with other things like being transfer resistant) are the Estee Lauder Double Wear and the Kat Von D Lock It Tattoo foundation. Both come in a pretty good range of colors, but if you're used to drugstore foundations, the price may put you off since they're about $35-$39 each (it's totally worth it, though).

MAC's foundations are alright, but I really wouldn't recommend them for everyday use. MAC is mainly a film/photography/stage makeup brand, so while their foundations will look great, they can be very taxing on your skin and can cause you to get blackheads and such.

Not that anon, but are these carried in any stores like Sephora, etc? I have a very difficult skin tone to match so I have to do it in person. I have yellow undertones but I'm also very very pale. Also, despite the yellow undertones it's still very "European" if you understand? It's strange and most places I go to end up having to mix a few different shades together to match me. Sorry for asking but I'm very unfamiliar with the two you mentioned that aren't MAC.

Agree on the time period.
If I see a can of strawberry scented body spray deodorant I remember early high school.

I guess the original brand cycled out, coz all I can find is the hello kitty one.

P.s. I work with a lot of teenagers at work (17 & under) and almost all of them where proper perfume, and carry them in their bags even. The teenage connotation seems outdated, since I bump into more mothers and mother aged with the actual cans of spray in their persons.

If I'm going out and want to look decent, anywhere from half an hour to two hours.

So for example, if I was going out after work, it would be:

>wash hair if washing-hair day
>wash face
>wash self
>dry off and contemplate what clothes to wear

Could someone please help me figure out how to do my eye makeup? I hate my eyes so much; I wish I could just hide behind sunglasses forever.
>different shaped eyelids
One has a hidden eyelid while the other has a visible crease.
>wideset + epicanthic fold
My eyes are far apart and I have an epicanthic fold (flap of skin going to inner eye corner), so I can't do the eyeliner-at-the-corner-of-eye trick to make them look closer together. I also cannot wing out eyeliner because that makes them look even further set apart.

All I do for eye makeup is just use a ton of dark shadow and rely on my bangs to distract from the problem. I don't even bother to use liner on the upper lids since it just disappears on my one eye. I'm so sick of being able to do only one look.

Please, please help.

Because mine looks different in indoor light (under incandescent lightbulbs), artificial light (those white studio lights), and natural light (indoors) is different from natural light outdoors. My makeup and hair also look completely different under those lights and photograph differently. When I'm indoors the camera captures me paler, but when outdoors it captures me darker even though irl it's the other way around.

It's annoying as hell, I never know what my makeup will look like when I go outside and what looks normal in my bathroom ends up looking like someone slammed my face into a bag of flour outdoors.

Going to Japan soon was wondering where should I go to get some skincare/makeup stuff for the best deal (doesn't have to be super cheap just not super marked up)? I have a friend there who's going to take me to see stuff but there are days where she won't be free so I'd like to go shopping myself and I'm pretty sure I much more into cosmetics than she is so I'd rather not bore her and make her go shopping with me.

Has anyone gotten an eyelash perm? Is it worth it? I hated my lash extensions, and I am shit at applying falsies. Layering my mascara only does so much to my short, straight lashes
