(didn't realize the other thread was saging when I posted this there, I guess)
I'm cosplaying Trish Una relatively soon. base wig is about 17in in the back, with bangs coming down just over the eyes. I've styled wigs before, but only minor changes, like spiking and trimming.
question is, how the hell do I achieve that little flip on top? will I need additional wefts, or a better wig (the one I bought is admittedly cheap, and I'm open to picking another one), or anything like that? sorry if this is a totally basic question or anything, I'm a relative beginner at working with completely unstyled wigs like this.

This is a dream cosplay I'm finally tackling so bear with me as I want to do it absolute justice. Is there a way through rigging/wiring/the use of miniature fans I could replicate the way her dress floats?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ZHgBKpaE24&t=17m38s

I have in the past created gravity defying dresses however the fabric I was using was much thicker and able to hide the worbla and wiring used.

On the topic of fabric, what sort could I use to achieve this blinding glittery sheerness? All the attempts I've seen of this cosplay seem to go horribly wrong in the fabric choice. I was considering using reflective fabric as a base with glitter and sequence galore, my concern is though that is would just look too heavy and not sheer enough for such a light garment.

hot water trick would def work for this. brushing the wig and giving it the part you want, taking the chunk of hair you want the swirl to be, and pinning it together. make sure you have it in the direction/angle you want it and dunk it in. not in for too long tho. after it drys (or you blow dry it) trim and style the curl by itself first, then style the rest of the wig around it i'd say. it's not too hard, just something you're gonna devote an hour or two working.

I need to make these scallop doodads on the bottom of this skirt. I have the skirt pieces ready to go, but for the life of me I can't figure out how wide each of the bases should be.

According to the production / artist's notes, her skirt has 8-10 of the larger pointy things on the bottom (not shown accurately in pic related, but I'm going with that since it's on the official notes)

Obviously the short ones have a smaller 'base' than the larger ones, but there should be an equal number of each on the skirt.

I can't, for the life of me, figure out how to calculate how big the bases of each typ eof point should be.

The bottom of my skirt is ~40" in circumference, if that helps at all.

ah alright i see. pleather could work, but be a bit hot and uncomfortable in some positions. 4way stretch is the way to go for pants and his kind of top if you went that way. i only suggested a cotton blend because i wasn't sure how "jojo" stylized you wanted to go with the costume, and pants are easy to sew that way.

I deleted the thread I made for this. Sorry.

Ahem...

So I've been trying to find a cheap way to procure a superhero or supervillain outfit for a superhero/supervillain party coming up soon, without spending much money. I think I found a solution. I'm going to dress up as Captain Marvel/Shazam. Here's my plan...

>yellow gumboots
>yellow tape around waist for belt
>yellow tape around wrists
>white sheet as a cape WITH yellow tape lining the sides of it
>cut-out lightning bolt to be stuck on chest, probably with sticky tape. Some anon mentioned ironing but I'm not sure how to do that.
>red jumper
>red(ish) trackpants coz I can't find red pants fucking anywhere

So what does everyone think? Even this is going to cost me about $40 which is more than I wanted to spend but oh well.

Trying to figure out the best way to make Bucky's arm.

I was thinking about
>gluing cut up layers of fun foam on top of an arm shaped piece.
>covering it in decoupaged tissue paper to even it out and round out the indents.
>painting it silver.
>take a sharpie to the indents to define them.
>paint on the star.
and do this in two pieces, top arm bottom arm.
and attaching them with a bit of elastic and velcro (like http://rockinrobin.deviantart.com/art/Cosplay-Automail-Tutorial-2-195970453))

So...? Good plan? (ps. I'm not gonna use worbla, so don't suggest it)

>> No.8163958

>>8163946
Even if you don't use worbla, you'll need to seal the foam with something so that the paint job and the armor itself don't look like total shit. Wood glue/gesso/glue + water solution are all options you should consider. Give it a good few coats and it'll be good to go.

Not cosplay related but I frequent /cgl/ the most and its kiiiiiinda con related but:
5-6 years ago when I was first attending con's I of course bought plushies. I have like 10 plushies of characters from bleach, naruto and all that shonen shit I loved when I first went to cons.
I am now 21 and don't want these anymore. I'm not sure what to do with them, usually I donate stuffed animals to good will but idk I feel kinda weird donating anime merch to a goodwill. I guess it'd make a funny tumblr post to whoever found them. Should I just donate them? Their kinda beat up to even attempt to sell.

Is there a gradient on the arm pieces or am I seeing things?

Also some of the art makes it look like arm pieces are made of two parts, one skintight and darker and a more transparent outer part, am I getting this right? It's not in the concept art, maybe the artist just isn't consistent about it.

There's so much reflections and details it's kinda confusing to look at.

heya cgl, my friend just voiced her wish to do red catsuit britney for our year-end party. She asked me (the resident cosplayer) for advice but I've never done anything like this.

What I'm asking for is mainly tips on trustable stores, what to look for and what to expect when it comes to these types of suits. I'm not sure what it is but I'd guess it is either vinyl or latex, so advice on wearing that would also be appreciated. She has very little sewing experience but with her determination I am sure she'd manage only she got good advice, though having to sew things or take them in would preferrably be avoided.

I'm attempting my first cosplay and doing one for the Winter Soldier and need some advice for the arm.

I'm following guides to make the arm but they're all for the movie version. That's not a problem but I'm caught on one thing:
the movie version is very segmented and complex while the comic version (the one I want to do) is more simple with its lines (pic related).

So the guides are using worbla to piece the arm together like a puzzle but I'm thinking with mine I can just use strips or even just cover the whole arm with worbla and cut in the lines.
What do you guys think?

Thanks in advance.

I really want to buy a sukumizu and I found pic related on Cosmates. Some people in a previous /cgl/ sukumizu thread already mentioned it was durable and high-quality for the price, which is pretty damn cheap.
The only thing bothering me are the measurements:
Bust: 78〜82cm / 30.7"〜32.3"
Waist: 62〜72cm / 24.4"〜28.3"
Hip: 74〜86cm / 29.1"〜33.9"

My measurements are 88 - 64 - 84 or 34.6" - 25" - 33", so I'm afraid it won't fit around my hips and especially my chest.
What should I do? Is there any other cheap and good quality sukumizu option or should I go with this?

for the socks on both characters, you could buy 2 shirts: one in your size, and the other in a larger size. Cut the arms off and clean up the ends for socks that perfectly match the shirts.

Aqua(?)

Wouldn't recommend jeans; the texture would make it look like a lazy closet cosplay. From the image, it looks like they're torn off at knee-length or mid-calf. Look up "capri length pants" to get an idea of the length.

Available in royal blue and light blue, but one of those shades might match your shirt.

Magma
>gloves
Look up tutorials on how Sailor Moon cosplayers make the gloves for their sailor scout outfits - they have the same puffy cuffs. It's basically a tube that's stuffed with polyfill.
And the hoodie, shorts, and flats look more pink than red to me - something to keep in mind when you're searching, perhaps.

The funny thing is that I used to cosplay from hs so I did a shitload of horns. I don't have model magic in my country, so I used something that is almost like clay but you can't sand it at all so it was kinda shitty. Maybe I can make then from expanding foam and then paper mache? Can I sand paper mache? I don't even know. And I don't have a problem using expanding foam because there will be some leftover from an axe that I'm building, so it would be perfect since you can't 're-mold' leftovers of expanding foam.

Kind of a broad/weird question I guess, but I didn't want to make my own thread for it. Sorry if it's a bit much.

So, I have a friend who is into cosplay who has invited me to come along with her to a convention, and has offered to help me cosplay pic related. I have no idea if this is a good costume for a beginning cosplayer like me, though, even with help, but I really really really want to do it anyways because I loved this show so much.

Ahem. Anyways. For pic related, I showed her a couple images (not this one) of the guy's costume, and her first suggestion was that we could start out by dying a pair of khaki pants red. Is this a good idea? I can't help but feel that for a suit like this that it ought to be something like spandex or whatever those morphsuits are made out of.

I honestly don't know how good she is at cosplaying, but I don't want to call her skill into question because we're friends and I don't know what I'm talking about anyways. The only costume by her that I have seen was a big period dress for a ren-faire like thing she did, which seems to me like something else entirely.

Is this a good costume for a new cosplayer, with help? How do I tell if said helping-person knows what they're doing? And how the fuck am I going to get a belt like that? And is there a word for this kind of costume, like "Kamen Rider suit" or something? I can't keep referring to it as "a suit like this." I feel like an idiot.
Thanks in advance.

I don't suppose you can afford to buy another glue or do some test pieces? I don't think I'd use fabric glue or super glue. Hot glue and regular glue are good on fabrics but kind of hit and miss on plastics in my experience.

Are the backs of your jewels flat to the surface of the fabric? If they are, you can try sanding down the back a bit to give it a little bit of roughness for the glue to hold onto before attaching it to your fabric. Wish I could be more helpful.

I used hot glue, fabric glue, and super glue to attempt to attach a resin jewel for my costume and none of them worked. It just ruined the fabric under the costume. In a last ditch attempt I even tried to use jewelry glue, also didn't work. It'd stay on for a couple of hours and without fail always popped off when i moved some. If that part of your costume isn't easily replaced I wouldn't try to attach it with any of that.
Still trying to find a good way to attach it. Lucky my gem is very opaque I'm going to see if it'll hold tight to velcro at all. Let you know how it works when I try in the next couple of days.

It's definitely a Kamen Rider inspired suit, given Masayoshi's affinity for toku. I used knit fabric on my boyfriend's suit and made his belt as well. Morphsuits would be a good idea for his later outfits, but the first one is a bit too baggy to be a morphsuit imo. As for it being a good costume for newbies, I really don't know. It depends on what you already know and how much work you're willing to put in to make it look good.

Heyo!

The difficulty will really depend on how you and your friend tackle it.

I happened to have made this suit a few months in January and I decided to make it all out of scratch.
Since the suit is loose I used a polyester-based knit and had it loose-fitting on me to replicate the tackyness of the costume. I did cosplay his 3rd outfit too but I used a zentai suit for that one.

Also, I would go against the idea of dying pants since you'll have to match it with your top anyways. In any cases only the "legs" are red and thise should be fairly easy to sew onto a black "shorts" base (be it handmade of modifying existing stuff) along the orange band.

Also I made my belt using EVA foam, attached a pic of it. (it was still in the WIP phase though, i would had posted a proper image if I had one)

It depends on how wide you are in the shoulders/chest. Since the skirt is high-waisted, you don't really need to worry about the length of the shirt, but you do need something that will fit across your shoulders. There are different lengths of pettis that you can buy; for extra puff, I would use tulle as well.

Looking to make a quick costume. I've been 'invited' to a dragon themed cosplay event and I'll have a couple days to work on it at most. From experience making costumes before, this stuff can take months and I'm looking for what the simplest methods are.

It's dragon themed, so I know a ton of people are going to be doing horrible Skyrim outfits. I'm staying away from it and probably doing something original, which means I don't have to be nit-picky about details. Knights generally fit with dragons; I could even do dragon themed armor.

I plan on using buckles and straps I already have (dozens of 'em) so that makes armor pretty easy. I'm thinking hotglue and cardboard for the most part. Painting might be tricky in the dorm but duct tape could look pretty bad as a finisher (or good, depending on how well you do it).

I don't have great access to stores, so I'm not looking for new materials and tools, just shortcuts to make something straightforward.

Something like pic related looks fantastic for just cardboard and few hours, but brown/unfinished looks bad.

I'm not a tailor, but I feel like you could get away with using strong strips of double sided tape on yellow ribbon/cloth for the trim, so long as you don't need to wash it later or something. I think they also sell fabric glues. Preferably use a material that won't fray, for getting those detailed shapes.

For the collar, you can probably google some templates or make a paper one and cut/flatten it into a template. Since it looks mostly cylindrical, nothin' too fancy, you could use an elongated hourglass shape (essentially a curvy rectangle) to give just a bit of look to it.

I'm having a lot of trouble finding a blouse like this with short puffed sleeves and a turned down collar, but with either a lot less lace or none.

Has anyone seen one around?

Ignore this. I'll modify something instead.

Hi I was wondering if i would be able to dye this wig with the sharpie/ink method or paint+fabric softener method < http://www.thewigoutlet.com.au/deluxe-supermodel-jenna-burgundy-118-premium-fashion-wig-heat-resistant/ >, and tint it purple. I'm cosplaying misato from nge and it looks like the wig i ordered might not arrive in time.
