What makes a coord hime?
Loads of frills?
Those elbow length blouses?
Forgive my ignorance, I always hear about hime lolita but I really never see many coords.

Every time I see something 'hime' theres an argument about whether or not its hime, but no general guidelines are posted?

Hime literally means princess in Japanese, so it's hime is about opulence. So lots of lace, tiers, frills. Lighter colors. Style up-dos. Generally you don't wear bonnets in hime either. So even >>8154565 is pretty borderline.

Himeloli came down as a mix of gyaru and sweet lolita. Particularly it takes the big princess hairstyle that only himegyaru girls used to use previously, the himegyaru makeup and nails, and some of the himegyaru aesthetics. >>8154845 is almost the very definition of the original hime lolita -- big hime curly gyaru wig, hime gyaru sandals, ruffly floral dresses by Angelic Pretty. At one point AP made a lot of items that seemed to be aimed towards hime gyarus, including a cutsew that was basically a tank top and two arm warmers.

OTT classic is just classic lolita with bells and whistles and madonna crowns and capes on. You might find it easier to think of it as a classic lolita looking at her classic lolita dress and going, "what else can I add to this outfit so that no one can take their eyes off me at the tea party?"

I'm with the other anon, most of the images posted in here are outright sweet, not hime lolita.

Therein lies some of the irony. Classic lolitas used to be passive aggressive towards sweet lolitas because at a meetup the sweet lolitas would be the flashiest girls, so they drew the most attention.

Now the classic lolitas are putting extra things on themselves to draw more attention to themselves. And co-opting sweet lolita dresses thinking they were classic dresses, too. Hint to newbies: if it came from Btssb or AP, it's a sweet lolita dress.

Anyway, there's a general problem with hime because you have hime-lolita, hime-gyaru, lolita with royal themes and then just general hime that straddles it all.

It depends on the rest of the coord anon. I think it can work, but a lot of times OTT coords have a lot up top, and you need more volume in your wig to balance it out - which as straight wig usually doesn't have.

I like the concept a lot, but the execution is horribly let down by all the terribad home made. Most of it is obscuring the actually good brand quality, too, this really looks like a low quality costume.

Give her a couple more years though, she might get better at crafting, or at least learn to commission stuff from other people who can do it better.

Not OP, but whatever. Well, aesthetically, it's not pretty, cute or elegant in most of the cases. The girl in the picture can make it becoming cute sometimes, though, and that's what every of these "hijab-lolita" (or whatever, I'm not sure what is the name) should try to do. Yes, the ones who wear these don't have any other choice because of their religion but it's not a reason for making me loving these.
