Cosplay fame comes at a price.

I did a little social experiment at work where I showed Nigri's facebook to people whom know nothing about the world of cosplay. After showing them only her profile pictures I asked them what they think she does for a living and the overwhelming answer was pornstar.

You can't expose yourself that much and not have negative repercussions. I really think Nigri and Yaya's sexy cosplay has done a lot of damage to the hobby public perception.

Honestly I don't. Yaya has a special brand of ego that Jigri actually does not have. Jigri saw a chance to make some money and took it and her family are in it with her. She's already turned down jobs other cosplayers would jump at because she and her family know she has a certain image to keep and some things could backfire or be taken the wrong way, in the end damaging their income. Yaya doesn't have that which is why she goes whole hog with the figures and comics and saying anything to get on TV. Yaya has just herself and two yes-men, so that's an ego going unchecked and out of control.

I don't often give credit to Jigri but she's a hundred times the business woman that Yaya is, as little as that's saying.

KJ has a long history of being the other woman and is pretty much the epitome of the stereotype skanky cosplayer sucking dick to get con passes and free shit. She was hated before this happened and once that all hit she was way more hated than he ever was. Real vicious piece of work, she is. His wife only used to attend the ones nearest them and the far coast and overseas ones he did on his own. It's only since all that happened that his schedule has been cut down and when he does show up she's always there now, too.

Which is true. I remember it very clearly being the biggest deal on here around the middle of 2013. If you were here at that time and don't rememebr it then either you have the memory of a goldfish or you're bullshitting. It was impossible to not see it. Like I could not even begin naming off every single little thing that happened, there was so much. And no, surprisingly enough not all of us keep folders full of screencaps of other peoples' drama from several years ago. Yaya got popular initially in the late 90's early 2000's for 2 reasons.
She did costumes that truly were of a quality not often seen at east coast cons at the time.
There just weren't that many Asian cosplayers on the east coast con circuit back then. She was totally able to ride that OMG ASIAN COSPLAY PERFECTION wave for a few years. (Also, the cheerleader effect of ONLY cosplaying with the small group of "hot cosplayers" of that era)

Always been fascinated with their obsession of cosplay idols or anyone "famous" but not in a positive way. If I wanted to become cosplay famous, I would have one super skimpy costume out of every, like, 7 or something. I don't think anyone in the anime community can call themselves famous, not even the voice actors. This may sound stupid, but Robin Williams and Elvis Presley were famous, for example. They couldn't go anywhere without being recognized. As long as you have the luxury of grabbing lunch, going to the store, and hanging out in public without being bothered by anyone, you don't get to call yourself famous. You can be well-known within a niche industry, but that only means as much as being popular in that industry means to you personally.
