Haven't seen a thread for this before. Post your experiences of your health at a con, did you get sick, injured, fatigued etc. How do you handle it at a con? Any tricks or remedies to prevent it?

Take your circle lenses out at the prescribed time limit (usually 8 hours). It's just not worth it keeping them in longer, and it might also be dangerous. I personally get massive headaches when I keep them in too long.

I had a roommate at a con get sick and constantly coughed/hacked with her mouth open and then I got really sick a few days after the con.

>> No.8126057

>Dont hi-five idiots on escalators or running around the con.
>Use hand sanitizer/wash hands after touching items commonly touched at a con like dealers merch, controllers if your at PAX.
>Dont put on headphones at PAX.
>Dont hold onto escalator rails/stair rails when possible.
>Eat healthy food when you can. I usually pig out at dinners but breakfast and lunch I make sure I am eating good food.
>Vitamins.
>Make sure your metabolism/body is good going into the con by sleeping and eating right days before. (I know... BUT MUH COSPLAY!!!! Should have started on it sooner.)
>Minimize physical contact with ppl. Hugs and selfies are fun but you do put yourself at higher risk of catching something. You dont have to be hypochondriac but be careful.

All of these tips have kept me con plague free. It is all really common sense in the end.

This, left mine in for like 10 hours (with a break between, I switched costumes and lenses in the middle of the day) and my eyes were so dry and burning that I couldn't wear my lenses the next day.

Not worth it. They were all gross looking and veiny too.

Last katsu some rando came up and hugged me out of nowhere, got sick. This year I only hugged one person and it was a seagull, and so far I still feel 100% fine.

Granted, I was on antibiotics the entire duration of the con for tonsillitis I got last week, and it's not too late to still get sick.

>> No.8126074

I was sick at Katsucon. I started with a purse for my sick kit but ended up getting a kawaii apron to wear instead. Kit included: tissues, cough drops, throat numbing spray, chap stick, hand sanitizer (which I offered to any friends I hung out with). I don't think I got anyone sick but my boyfriend whom I cuddled with at night for warmth.
Sex actually helps sickness a lot but I wouldn't suggest having a one night stand with someone just to feel better yourself, cause it would probably make them sick too. Unless you're a selfish person, which I'm sure most of you are. But good luck seducing anyone with a cold.

It was hard for me to do anything on periods, let alone cons, due to my endometriosis. I ended up getting the depo shot so I wouldn't have to have a friend carry me to a hotel room due to agonizing cramps that paralyze me like previously before.

You can't even use divacups during your period... Anyway, diva cup works for me the small size is a tiny bit too big, so I'm gonna try out this thing called "ladycup" it's marketed to teens who've never had sex. Also, don't go near those fucking 'softcup' things, they were so big I felt like they were gonna rip me apart.

The basics go a long way

>Eat regularly and make sure descent food is going into your body
>Stay hydrated. Hotel cons are super generous with water so use it to your advantage. If you are super thirsty and haven't drank in a while then avoid chugging down energy drinks
>Get some damn sleep. It's cool to pull the all nighter as its a con but make sure you get your rest as its gonna bite you in the ass down the road.
>If your feet hurt then either take a break or change into some comfier shoes. Most photographers don't shoot full body so your photos don't suffer. If your real anal about having accurate footwear then make sure you pick something that is comfy from the get go.

As for personal tricks I use.

- There comes a time during the con where photgraphers and other attendees stop caring about photgraphing cosplayers and are party hopping/hanging out. During this time you can stop worrying about being your absolute best. Unless you have a night shoot, gathering or in the masquerade you can ease off your cosplay a bit such as removing your makeup, switch to comfier shoes, leave big props and accessories in your room or just changing into casual clothes in general.

- Usually after a big con day I'm going to wake up all busted up and sore. I actually picked up doing DDP yoga and have incorperated many of those stretches to help ease the tense in my back and shoulders and its gone a long way of making me feel better for the next day.

Oh snap, I guess I meant softcups. Those were horrific and gave me an infection. I have no idea how people claim to have sex with those. The bf's dick size is pretty big so I don't expect the diva cup to work either. I even tried sea sponges (soft and squishy!) but they irritated the head of his dick. They work great for periods, though.

Keeping this /cgl/-related, somehow the local con I always go to always falls on my shark week. Last time I used my birth control to adjust it.
>oh god I just looked at the calender and I'll be spewing blood next con
>I better have a light flow goddammit

>> No.8126408

Divacups are completely different from softcups, I'd suggest looking them up. They aren't made to have sex while in, but they are a great alternative to tampons, no one should use tampons.

Well, other than the fact that cotton has too high of an absorption rate for the vagina, the tampons themselves have shitty chemiclas in them from the bleaching and production of cotton and the overall 'sterilization'. Messed up PH balance, yeast and bacterial infections, increased chances of UTI, bad cramps and tons of other random bullshit are actually pretty common but things like toxic shock is rare but deadly and they can even increase risk of infertility.

Tampons are just really bad for you.

>> No.8126631

>Dont go to the con if you are already sick.

Seriously. I know its a waste of money and people are excited to go but you are putting others at risk. I am just waiting now for the news of a con having a measles outbreak because some idiot decided to go to a con while infected. Like how there was that Swine Flu outbreak a couple years back at PAX. Also didnt someone die after last Katsucon after contracting H1n1? Dont feel good? Be a bro and stay home.

Got strep throat at my very first convention. Wasn't feeling all that great Saturday afternoon and it just got progressively worse from there. Had to stay in the hotel Saturday night because I couldn't even swallow because it hurt so much. I was half-dead by Sunday and I left early.

Otherwise, I haven't had any issues with being sick at cons. I don't do anything special, just don't usually get sick.

>> No.8126653

Not sure if this counts, but last time I went to my con, I'm pretty sure I got something of an anxiety attack. I had never had a problem like that previously. I went with my brother last time and when we set off to do our own things I started to get hot and scared and had feelings of being lost and trapped. My heart was going nuts. It stayed even when I went to lesser crowded areas. It was only when my brother took me to the food court of the mall next door that I calmed down. I felt so bad and embarrassed and I hadn't been able to go to a con since.
Has anyone else have this happened to them? Is there anything you did to help?

Not the person you're replying to but honestly, it's so much more cost effective than tampons, and you get up to 12 hours of protection and it doesn't leak like tampons did (for me at least). I regret not making the switch sooner. For cons it is a godsend because I don't have to keep changing my tampon every few hours. It just sucks if you have to change it in a public restroom, but some places have handicap bathrooms with their own sink or just bring baby wipes if there isn't one.

>> No.8126855

>>8126653
I don't have anxiety attacks very often anymore, but they tend to happen when I go places alone as well. What I do is get water, go outside, and listen to music if I can. It helps if I have someone I trust who can help talk me down too, but sometimes you just have to make the best of it and ride it out until you calm down.

Vitamins will help protect you so much.
Also EmergenC is a god send. I usually take them at least a week before the con and 2 a day during the con. Also drink lots of water and sleep a good amount, the usual shit.

Last con was in January and really cold, I got super drunk and ran around in shorts most of the weekend and did all the shit that should get you sick and didn't get any of it. Was really happy.

I got a 102.5 degree fever at AKON. I get routine sickness all the time, this time it was just really bad. The medical tent staff there were AWESOME. I recently also had another spike at the last con I went to and once again medical tent staff to the rescue. If you feel sick and are attending the con, you should go to their medical check up area if they have one and get your temperature taken first, then probably get some food. Almost always get sick before, during, or after. I now take hand sanitizer with me and use it all the time. That has been a huge life saver.

I had a sore throat at AWA last year. It come on pretty slow so at first I didn't want to believe I was sick. I was fine waiting in the reg line on Friday afternoon, but after I changed into cosplay I started feeling worse and worse. It was hard to talk but nobody guessed that I was sick. I had to drink egg soup since that's all I could get down. Still managed to stay up pretty late that night, but no partying for me. Ended up making paper planes with some friends using schedules lying around.

The next day I bought riccola and that helped immensly. I was sucking those things down all day and sunday, but still couldn't really party. Actually it was kinda nice being sober during the entirety of a con. I usually drink or smoke but I still ended up having fun. What also really helped me was being able to take a nap in my van (since I didn't have a hotel room). I wonder how many people I got sick lel.

I hardly ever get sick in general. Never been sick after a con and don't know where that one came from.
