Rather than adding gold trim, a large circus themed brooch is probably easier.

I am not sure what's going on here, but would get rid of the cape in favour of a shorter capelet, get buckle up witch boots, and definitely go for different tights.

Doesn't really look that toned down, but ivory is the right colour to be going with. I would wear an ivory cutsew, brown bolero, ivory tights and brown boots. Chocolate hairclips like >>8122831 will be much more discreet than the matching headbow

>>8123497
Depending on the look you're going for, you could consider getting a knit or crochet bolero off etsy - most sellers should be able to send you a sample of the wool used to check that it matches. The Dear Celine blouse is much nicer, and I have never had any issues with the quality from them. I think if you want more pink that you need to have some on the top half - a pink/blue floral hairpiece, for example, rather than concentrating it all at the bottom with the shoes, or having a pink fan. I would say off-white tights but not the lace ones that look like cheap raschel, something with slightly more heaviness to it. If you're insistent on having some pink in the tights, a muted pink-on-white floral would be okay.

A slightly unusual request. This is a dress I'm currently stitching up. I'm just starting out sewing classic stuff and I have trouble choosing embellishments. Please tell me what this dress needs to feel more "finished." I have some cream ribbon that matches the bustle, and plenty of fabric for bows. I'd like to stay away from lace as it gets expensive because you need so much of it.

Heyy that's not half bad. I'm really not sure about that cream ribbon running along the front, it feels a little garish. I feel like the ruffle is a little top heavy too, generally it seems like ruffles are 1/3rd at the top and 2/3 on the bottom.
-I would say a bow in the same red color on the middle top or bottom of the bodice.
-Or you can do a bow on the bottom on each strap
-Or you could try to find a matching satin ribbon in red but it'd have to be dead on.
-You could go with waist ties but make it go completely around the bodice like a belt, maybe like an inch thick.
-You could attach an outer ruffle to the straps.

I donno, look around and research what you like.

Thanks those are good ideas. It's definitely not sitting quite right, but I can't figure out why. I think I need to take it apart and redistribute the gathering and like you said do something about the weight of the dress pulling on the straps, but I'm so sick of this dress and I'm only going to wear it once so... Idk.

>> No.8129156

Honestly with all the puckering and bagging in the bodice it looks like the fit is totally off and the tension on your machine was wrong when you sewed it, or the fabric is too lightweight to support the weight of the skirt. Weird distribution of the gathers shouldn't influence it too much unless you caught a big chunk of the skirt up accidentally. I would just interface it to smooth things out and have done with it, especially if you're only going to wear it once.

This is my suggestion, in terms of feedback on what you had I think the mu-fish tights with red crosses are *too* red, not burgundy enough. Finding a good rectangle headdress to match the maroon is difficult, I'd consider plain black if you're set on black shoes but you'll have to figure out what you're doing with the tights, imo the maroon mu-fish ones with the black crosses might be okay.

Hey seagulls I'd like some feedback on my first ~casual~ coord with my new salopette.

Can you make the straps longer?
It doesn't fit you very well.
Try some white polkadot tights and some peachy pink heels.
The salopette is really short so I would just take it a more gyaru route than anything...

The straps aren't adjustable, but the dress was a little bunched up when i took the photo, it's longer on me than a salopette should be as I am just under 5ft. Also it's about 1-2 inches bigger in the waist than I am, thank god for waist ties. I like the gyaru idea a lot, that's definitely the route i was thinking of taking it, I just wanted to do a cute, fun sweet oufit with it but I know it's not lolita. Working on co-ording MM Perfume Bottles in Mint for an event in April. I have dress, blouse, bag, legwear, hair accessories and some jewellery already but still looking for shoes, maybe a bracelet and the right wig. I'd also like to maybe bring in some more pink since the waist bow is pink but I'm not sure how to do so other than with a bracelet?

For shoes, I was thinking chocolate brown oxfords or something similar (which are proving impossible to find). Based in Europe which doesn't help either. Bodyline's pair seem pretty good but are out of stock in my size.

The two bracelets are just examples, I was thinking roses to bring in more florals from the headress and maybe pink to link in with the waist bow. I also have a plain strand of pearls I could wear.

I have both hair accessories, leaning more towards the mint corsage as it's more interesting.

Thoughts, /cgl/?

My bad, must be my monitor. All of the colours look quite difficult to get exact matches for, then, I'd already dismissed the blue and lavender as being really tricky - maybe the teal could work if you can find a blouse, and Teja Jamilla as well as Polonova do teal x gold. I wonder whether a beige chiffon shot with gold would work though, and then it would free you up to use beige in the tights. If you think white is too plain maybe go for a blouse that has a lot of lace or embellishments on the princess sleeve part.

>>8136550
You will somewhat resemble a tree if you get the tights in #7 colour, unless it's my monitor again - a bunch of tan-brown on the bottom and green on the top with a smattering of brown. If the beret is a different brown from the shoes/bag I probably wouldn't recommend it for this outfit because of the emphasis on colour matching and balance in lolita. I would suggest maybe #5 for the tights depending on how beige that surface spell top actually turns out to be.

>>8134836
I like this but agree with the other anon, if you want more pink the hair accessory is the obvious place to put it, then potentially the shoes (or even consider ivory shoes with pink shoe clips). Bitsweet has nice rose bracelets but I think isn't EU-based, perhaps bring in a pink bolero (depending on how far south you are..)
I have attached uncomfortable but pretty ivory shoes for your perusal.

>>8135355
I don't like the combination of star chain and crown, pick one or the other and then star clips (think Emmy Rossum as Christine in Phantom of the Opera). If you're new enough to makeup that you need a 'look' with gold in it, I suggest looking for a 'natural gold eye' rather than anything particularly dramatic.
If you're going with star themes, star charm jewellery in gold is easy to find on ebay

Thanks for the suggestions! I do have to pink hair accessories which I've included in the picture but I feel that they're a bit too bright and maybe too sweet? for the coord. Interested to hear some others' thoughts though!

I've actually been second guessing the shoes recently so I'm pretty glad you said something about them! I've been really struggling to find something in a dark enough brown so I had kind of given up. Would a style similar to any of the ones pictured be good? The Naya Jada's are just something I've been craving for a while, haha

I'm a beginner at lolita coords. The dress is a DoL Squirrel Rabbit JSK (made the bows detachable so I can use one as a headband).

This is what I got. I need opinons for expert eyes (I'm going for more classic/sweet.)

I bought a blouse at Walmart. Modded it with ruffles and got new shoes and made the shoe bow.

I'm wondering whether or not I should paint the pumps to a more muted brown color or leave it the way it is.

As well ad what accessories should I wear for the coord(s) (I have a pearl necklace I can wear, but that all I can think of without being covered in accessories

(The dress behind it is a lolita jsk and headdress set I made for a con. I don't know which one I should wear to the harajuku walk. )

black hairbow or bonnet. Something like AP's mercator antique bonnet might be cute, or a headbow with gold details.

The only crit I'd give is that the purse is quite sweet compared to everything else. It fits with the motif of the night sky though, so that makes it passable.

Overall, really cute second coord.

Thanks! I do have a Chocomint moon night hair clip in but it's hard to see in the picture. But I think that black hair accessories might pull it together better. I'm going to try to help the best I can, so please don't get offended/defensive.
-The construction of the dress looks bad. It looks kind of wonky, and there is hardly any detailing, construction or otherwise. This is why you don't buy from shops like DoL and also one of many good reasons you don't buy replicas (along with art theft). For the amount of money you spent on that dress, you could have bought a really nice brand dress (though probably non-"print"), especially with how good the exchange rate is, assuming you're from the eurozone/britain/USA, which you would have been able to sell on later and make your money back.
-The blouse isn't working for me. It clearly looks like a minimally-modded work shirt; while this would have been passable in like the early-mid 2000s, there's really no excuse for it now.
-Same as above for the shoes. They're better than the blouse and could maybe work if the rest of the outfit was better, but right now they're just adding to the mess.
-If those are white tights by the shoes, I would not wear them. Opaque white tights are generally not flattering, and they're incredibly boring.

Honestly, this reminds me of my shitty first coord. I realize you're probably excited and want to dive right in, but you should really lurk more/spend more time looking at the fashion before jumping in if you're having problems like this. Also, you're better off saving up money and purchasing quality items than trying to complete your lolita outfit with items from walmart. The world isn't going to end anytime soon, and doing the latter only leads to embarrassment.

-continued-
I would agree with >>8139129 and scrap the whole thing if I were you, but if you're dead set on wearing this, here is how I would change it to make it look better.

-Swap blouse for either a proper lolita blouse or a cardigan/bolero (which might be easier to find locally/thrift and are also available for cheap on LM/Bodyline). If you go with a cardigan/bolero, red or brown would be good colour options.
-If you go with a blouse, try finding/making a belt/waist ribbon in either red or brown (matching it to the reds/browns in the print) to add some visual interest/detailing to the dress.
-Get different shoes. I think darker brown heels (preferable with a strap or ribbon of some sort) or more camel-coloured brogues would be cute. You could also go for red shoes. Right now the red bow you have on the shoes also seems to clash with the red in the dress, imo.
-For legwear, patterned lacy tights (the more cottony ones, not the trashy looking ones) are cheap, easy to find, and would look nice.
-Maybe try to find a simple strawberry necklace to match the print? I think that would be cute.
-You'll probably want a bag, but the colour of the bag will depend on what other changes you make (i.e. top colour, shoes, etc.).

I personally think this dress is perfect for country lolita and would probably style it that way if I owned it.

I'm having a ton of trouble coording this (colorway as pictured) without it coming out too sweet. This is my first gothic piece and while I can tell it has sweet elements I really want to take it in a more goth direction.

My biggest problem is that wearing a black blouse feels to me like it will remove the focus from the interesting bat collar which is a big reason for purchasing, I really want to highlight this. I've looked up others coords but many seem to have chosen to go the black blouse route, is that really my best option?

I was thinking of trying a purple/lavender blouse but most blouses I'm coming across don't seem to be fitting (either too much lace, wrong purple, etc) For legwear I would like to do a purple/black diamond patter but was also thinking of playing up the bat angle with bat tights and headwear but fear that may come off as too costumey?

How do you guys feel about wearing Cadre du Chat blouseless in a Lolita coord (not as a caual summer dress)? I really don't want someone pinting out I'm a total ita for not wearng a blouse with it, when in reality the cut allows to wear it as is. The stock pics show the model wearing it without a blouse too, it has been featured in magazines without a blose, and even the allmighty Misako, who is always considered to be extremly strict about " teh rori rulez" has worn it blousless. Definitely red shoes for that dorothy aesthetic; I'd suggest a rainbow pin or something instead of a large necklace like that. This is such a cute idea though, so keep with it! The bag is great for the picnic basket look.

Don't do the sparkles though. It pushes into gaudy and costumey looking territory, unless you're wearing it to a con, but it just doesn't look good imo to have sparkles. I'm biased tho lmao. I don't think it would hurt to make the burgundy into a ruby red though.

Honey, salo's are supposed to be too big.
The band worn just under your waistline is supposed to sit loosely just on your hipbones. Maybe lengthen the shoulder straps a little to get it to sit correctly, and then loosen or take off (if they are removable) the waist ties to get the correct shape.

As for the co-ord I feel like the short length of salo's often matches poorly with over-knee socks if you want to avoid looking too age-play-esque so maybe go for some patterned tights that suit the salo. If your after some "not really lolita shoes" for this casual outfit, I feel like some feminine ballet flats would suit the styling a bit better.

Image just something I found on google search to help with showing how a salo should sit on the body. Note how the "waist line" sits low on the hip bone.

Good luck with your outfit.

I have this JSK and the shoes, wore them out last weekend, and they're a pretty solid match. I would change out the blouse to something with a completely different collar, and this coord looks fantastic with a high collar. I recommend something slightly off-white. I got a blouse from Dear Celine that worked well, but if sizing is an issue, take a look at The Floral Notebook (she won't be making more blouses 'til April tho) or another custom service. The Floral Notebook is worth waiting for, her prices and quality really impressed me (and her chiffon stuff will go with those tights).

I'm wondering if a Bordeaux shirt will make this all too 'red heavy' and if introducing a dusty pink is ridiculous if I add some dusty pink into my bonnet or accessories, or should I stick to ivory?

Okay this is gonna sound SUPER noobish - and I will admit, I am super new to lolita fashion. I was planning on wearing it to a matsuri thats happening in my city soon, and after about a month and a half of sitting here going "It's ages away, I have plenty of time to order a blouse and such" I've been pulled into reality to find that its only 9 days away, definitely not enough time to order anything.

I'm gonna go scour some thift stores and shopping centres for a suitable blouse ( I've found some alright shoes, gold flats with little bows on the front and scalloped edges ) but on the chance that I can't find anything AT ALL, would it be acceptable to wear a plain white turtleneck under my JSK? Or should I skip out on wearing loli to the festival and just go normalfag? The coord was going to be casual in the first place since I don't own many accessories, but I'm not sure how it'd sink in wearing a top thats /that/ casual.

Dress is APs Chess Chocolate dropped waist JSK in pink, and for accessories I'm planning on just wearing a white beret with the detachable bow pinned to it btw.

White won't work for Chess Chocolate. The only "white" bits on the dress are actually more of an ivory/cream.

Instead of going lolita, you could possible use it in a otome outfit? Like if you could find a cream cardigan, and brown tights and something in the same pink for your headwear, like a beret? I'm just throwing ideas out there you might not have enough time for even that.

>would it be acceptable to wear a plain white turtleneck under my JSK
go for plain brown or cream instead. but yes, a turtleneck would be the best option for something you have to find fast.

You can wear this dress casually in a way thats kinda more like otome. Brown/cream turtleneck, small and thin brown hairbow with very neat hair. Brown shoes (oxfords, boots, maryjanes..) and cream OTKs/opaque tights. Wear a gold necklace without too much design and a gold ring (pick these up at a thrift store). Dont add anything big on your head to attempt to make it look fancier, you will just look like you fucked up. Plain brown hairbow. You can get a plain headband at target and put brown ribbon on it and hotglue a small brown bow. Use reference photos of small IW or AP headbows while you make it, copy one if you can.

If you only have a white turtleneck, fuck it, wear it and wear it with white OTKs. Just dont post the outfit and avoid pictures. It will look passable as long as youre cute and have your make up/hair done, but you dont want it posted really.

I've got these two ideas for this skirt and I'll probably do both for variety, but I can't find accessories to match. I'd like mini marble statues (cus the print has grey statues or sth that looks like it), basically, but any search for that came up empty. I'd love help on finding any jewelry in a similar vein (I looked for gargoyles, looked through AlchemyGothic's stuff, etc.) or better ideas.

(2nd look explained: The skirt has little loops in it to attach straps, so I'll make a little corset-jsk top to hide the ugly waistband and hide the uggo brown lace with (perhaps detachable) black fabric/lace too)
