Come on people, if you just tell someone how bad they look and don't explain why, they'll never improve.

Hair isn't actually too bad, and the JSK itself is fine. As for your face, makeup will help a lot. Emphasize your eyes and learn to contour to reduce the roundness.

The blouse doesn't work at all, it looks way too casual for the JSK. If you want to wear a choker, wear a blouse with an actually low neck. The unbuttoned collar just looks unfinished. The choker itself isn't inherently bad, but it doesn't match the way you coordinated the rest of it. It's too fancy in comparison to the casual blouse and hair accessories.

Unfortunately I have to agree with that. It's super frizzy but it doesn't look like windy-frizzy; it appears more just low quality. Also, I'd suggest finding someone better to find cut the bangs; they're way too uneven and choppy. In addition, I'd fix those eyebrows; they look awful.

However, I don't want to sound too harsh because I really do like the costume. Everything else is pretty great, just fix those two things and it'll be better.

Nah, I'm cool with con-crit. Like I said, I'm still a babby when it comes to wigs (unlike sewing), so any little bit helps, even if it's somewhat harsh.

Though to defend myself a little, it is an Arda wig that has been through six conventions and two washings already, so it's definitely starting to get a bit ratty. I'm close to retiring Satsuki, but if I bring her back later in the year I'll probably just get a new one.

Yeah, that much use definitely makes sense, then. But I still stand by finding someone who's really good at bangs to do them, since they're definitely not easy to cut on wigs (and in general) but look sooo much better when done well.

And as for the eyebrows, I'd just suggest using maybe powder/eyeshadow and a very sharp detail brush to do them, just because they look smudge-y and too heavy, like they were done with an eyeliner and weren't blended. Practice on that part will definitely improve the look quite a bit.

Have you washed the wig with fabric softener? I had two wigs (one Arda, one eBay) that were at a shamefully ratty level until I dunked them in a tub of diluted fabric softener and they came out soft and shiny again.

I'd personally recommend a chiffon blouse to go with that JSK. One with a rounded lower neckline would look really nice. The Floral Notebook makes nice affordable ones. Good luck with everything, I look forward to seeing how you improve.

I got my Shimakaze wig in the mail today but it's so white, what can I do to make it a very subtle platinum blonde?

If you can, try steaming the skirt; it works a lot better than ironing.
Also, there are a lot of wig-dying tutorials. Just use really watered-down yellow dye.

I left the piercing in just because it was Halloween and I didn't expect anyone to get my character anyways, so that'll be easily taken care of since septum piercings can be inverted, which I plan to do. However, my wig is most definitely the correct color. It's ligther and more mint in real life, but it's the most accurate I've found is pretty much identical to the color used in Darkstalkers and Puzzle Fighter. I've seen a lot of variation on the color, though, in the series and in cosplays, and some of them are just flat out wrong, like that dark blue-teal and more forest green; this one I made sure was correct.

And thank you, it REALLY bothers me when the headband is over the wig. It was extremely easy to just put the headband under the wig and pull a wire through to connect the wings, I don't get why people skip on that when the rest of their cosplay is pretty spot-on.

It's not a bad idea. The bigger ones get more irritating the longer you wear them, too -- I can wear smaller circle lenses for much longer. You're super cute, but the lower half of your face is very petite, so you have to be careful about how big your eyes are.

heh, from that angle in the photo, my glasses look rectangle, but they are actually oval/almost cat eye. They are actually my own everyday glasses, I love finding characters to cosplay who also wear glasses, especially when their glasses are similar to my own.

Here is an older cosplay of mine, with an old pair of frames that do not match the character, but hell, I was happy to get out of contact lenses for the day.

The purse looks a little casual, but otherwise you did well. Normally I wouldn't advise wearing black shoes in an outfit with no black, but it works with your hair.
In the future, however, try bringing out some of the gold accents in the dress with some gold accessories. A fluffier petti would also look good, but the amount of poof you have works alright with this particular dress.

I didn't follow a guide, just some rough pointers from more experienced friends.
Used 1 inch thick pink insulation foam, scaled and printed an outline of the sword on paper and traced it to the foam, sanded edges with sandpaper to create the beveled sides.
Then I covered it with a couple layers of gesso, sanded more, and then spray painted.

My boyfriend actually snapped it after the con but luckily it was a clean break and I glued it together (good thing it held up for the duration of the con).
I read some tutorials later and read that one girl shoved wires through the handle to make it stronger.

If you're going to use that thin of foam, you should buy foam board and glue it together, it has way more structural integrity from the layering and since the sword is pretty much flat anyways there's no reason to use foam good for carving.

This is my most recent cosplay. I unfortunately ended up in a car accident on the way to the con (car got totaled so that was a fun trip back up) and fractured my hand. I had a full armor cosplay I was originally going to wear that Saturday but my hand wouldn't have cooperated so I just wore this for like three hours and spent the rest of the time on painkillers. I'm actually extremely happy with how the skirt came out though so I can't wait to wear it again. Since it was a small/shitty con these were the only pictures I was able to get. And yes, the boots are brown.

As for contouring tips (yes it is indeed a crossplay), my face is pretty angular and does half the job for me already. I use brown eyeshadow under my cheekbones (where the indentation is when you suck in your cheeks), and around the side of my nose. Obviously blend it in, or it just looks dirty. Then I highlight the T-zone of my face (forehead and ridge of the nose) and under my eyes.
I also cover my lips in the facial make up I use.
And eyeliner for male charas is sort of thinner and straighter, rather than curved wings.

Some Rin from December, I only ended up getting shitty public transport selfies that day because the meet was boring and I ditched it after about half an hour.

It's kind of humorous, and really awesome.

Though I do agree with the comment about the blood on the axe looking artificial (but since the rest of the axe's blade also looks less clean then your overall outfit, I can believe that it was a rush job). For a future note, I think a blood splatter would tend to be on the top of an axeblade instead of at the bottom - when you swing a weapon, you're more likely to connect at the tip (and there'd be more force) than halfway down the axe's length.

I am so so sooo sick of seeing this Party City Halloween costume being passed off as a cosplay, pic related. That is why her skirt isn't pleated, that is why there is no nurse hat, that is why the boots are totally wrong. I have no problem at all with buying cosplays but for the love of god how hard is it to commission something this simple or buy it from one of the hundreds of cosplay stores that sell an accurate version of this.
