The blouse is dark brown, not black is it?

It really depends on your other accessories. If you're wearing silver jewellery, I could see a lovely silver star-shaped clutch working, or white floral brocade purse, or even a generic taobao rose-shaped one. Since it will be sitting very close to the navy part of the JSK I would avoid navy unless you can go shopping in person and match the colour.

This isn't the first time someone's recommended purple accessories to me for this jsk so I guess I'll go with purple then. I've also thought about a deep blue like the other panel to the right of that one.

Alright seagulls, put me through bootcamp.

I own absolutely NOTHING in gold, which I know is how most people wear this dress. I started having a go at trying to make a silver coord, which means I can use jewellery that I own and wear. (The white stars and coins = silver-white). The rest of my wardrobe is black. (Black tights, black shoes...)

I'm considering silver tights and a silver or white hairpiece. Can it work? I'm aiming for more classic, rather than OTT - simple and wearable out and about shopping.

Here's how I currently wear it, dull as dishwater. Suggestions and concrit appreciated. If I can avoid going for gold, that'd be great, but I'll take it like a man if there's no alternative.

>>8089419
Yeah, lose the tights. I wouldn't go for floral lace - maybe the 3-D patterned microfibre that Fiore makes, like the Santia or Joella in black; alternatively, a black/silver brocade.
Wrist cuffs would definitely help with the overall feel of the outfit - and probably piling on the jewellery with gemstones picking up one of the colours would as well, the purple is a cool idea and there's no shortage of silver/purple gothic jewellery around. I would make sure your pendant is pretty flashy rather than subtle, especially if it's sitting on the bodice motif. And you need a good bag with this as well.

>>8089778
For summery, definitely white lace-topped sheer ankle socks (or sock toppers + sheer ankle socks) and maybe a cute white parasol to keep the heat off? The Galleria kids' one is decent and only about $16 (I own it in purple, but it also comes in white) and the Clifton Kids Fifi is also nice.
For accessories, summer themes! Since the dress is pretty sweets themed maybe go with icecream scoop rings, a cute sweets bracelet and a sundae necklace.

>>8089975
I think you should go for gold + silver simply because there's a huge-ass gold bow on the front. This shouldn't need to break the bank - but you may need some gold things to match the gold bow. If you are remotely crafty at all I would make shoe clips (2 clip on earring backs + gold ribbon bow). In order to make the silver work, you will need a bit more silver in there - I think on the tights is a good place, and also in your hair. My personal preference would be for you to add silver star clips to your hair rather than the black bow.

I'll have a think!

I'll also hunt for some tights - it's really hard to find silver tights for adults that aren't sheer! I'm glad someone else thinks it could work, so thank you.

I have very thin, fine hair - headbands work well in it but anything with clips just sliiiiides on out. Perhaps a thin-strap headband and I could attach silver stars onto that?

Lastly - any thoughts on colour of handbag? I currently just use my black handbag as it goes with my shoes.

You can also use hair clips depending on what backs they have! All you need to do is have them glued onto clip-on earring backs or possibly alligator clips (although I find those rub against my foot). I actually think those gold shoe clips might be okay since the gold is so far away from the bow, but also found the ones pictured on etsy for you (for some reason etsy = spam, so you'll have to search 'gold bow shoe clips yourself)
I found the tights on the left on etsy as well, but they're something like $21 and I'm not convinced they're necessarily $21 worth...there are quite a few on ebay for half price if you search for 'silver star tights' but opacity will vary based on leg size. Polonova are worth the price but do trouser socks rather than tights, which could be awkward if you're quite tall.
In terms of hair, maybe consider a black beret or cloche with silver star brooch attached? That way you could have something like your earrings or necklace...

Is it weird to pair true white with ivory?

I just got my dress in the mail today and the fur trim definitely as an ivory/off-white hue, but the little poms are a true white.
I was planning on wearing a white bolero but if I look closely enough I can tell the difference between it and the fur's color.

Updated this coord with things bought so far.

Re: the etsy bows - I wanted those gold-ier ones, but the seller charges OUTRAGEOUS international shipping. So I went with these slightly different ones.

The hat is Claires Accessories, but because the bow is big I hope I can cut it off and make it detachable, so I can replace it with a brooch. I haven't yet found a really good brooch. I have a cute gold/silver brooch of a leaf and branches, but would like to stick with the star-and-moon theme.

Silver tights that are 60 denier+ are all out of stock at the moment, but I at least know they exist.

I have silver bracelets.

Should I stick with a plain black handbag?

Y'all are fabulous help and inspiration.

>> No.8091974

>>8091921
I suspect the gold won't matter too much as it's so far away. Even if you can't cut the bow off you can put a brooch either on the centre of it or on the ribbon. The other hair accessories look good as well and could actually be placed on the hat if needed (barrette will clip around the "ribbon" around the hat if it's not glued on, headband can go around the bit that's not covered by the bow)
I still think silver/black tights are better than plain silver since you don't have any big blocks of silver on the dress, and you aren't wearing anything big that's silver. Plain black handbag can have a similar accent to the hat, like a dangly star key ring or something.

>>8091662
Try it on and photograph it. Honestly won't matter if you pick one shade for anything white, it matters when you don't match it within the outfit

I see your point about the tights - glad the silvers were out of stock now. I'll switch to a black/silver print. I thought the same with the silver hair barrette - it'd never stay in my hair but would clip nicely on a hat. For £2 anyway it's worth a go until I find a fancier brooch.

Thanks very much for your help!

I changed out the tights and blouse for this (forgot about Lady Sloth so I ditched the F+F blouse). I'm also thinking about changing out the mojo moxy shoes as well for the gold ones. (again if the wig looks too weird with it I'll just take it off) Looking for suggestions on the bag.
I might be looking in the wrong places, but I actually didn't see a whole lot of purple jeweled necklaces when I looked around on etsy and storenvy, or at least ones with vibrant purple. I mostly saw a lot of red. I did, however, find a couple nice vibrant blue pieces that match the blue next to the purple window? Then I saw that purple lace choker but I'm conflicted as I almost think it's a little too...chunky? large? I also really enjoy the other necklace that's on there (with the gold roses) but the gems are black. I might ask to see if I could get it made with different colored gems.
Anyways thanks for all the suggestions + sorry my image is so big.

Very first dress, so I'm a bit lost. I'd like to stick with the red from the bows and browns to keep it more toned-down rather than sweet, but I don't really know where to begin or even where to look.
I'm also stuck on a blouse. The stripes and border print are definitely more of a cream or an ivory (compared to the white of the little flowers) so I don't know how strange a white blouse would look with this. If you guys can help me out I'd appreciate it.
I'm not scared to shop on Taobao, but I also don't think I have all that much to order so it'd be a little silly to buy from there, maybe? I don't know, I'm open to anything really.

>>8093581
Either brown like the photo, or gold. If you're feeling particularly uninspired by that, maybe a dark red-purple (like...a little more purple than most shades of maroon)

>>8093686
Purple/amethyst goth choker is what you want to search for - they won't be as super bright as the dress because most goth jewellery tends to mimic the actual stone. Blue as an accent colour is nice as well, I would try and get jewellery more obviously silver though. Not digging the gold shoes at all though or the funny hand chain thing, particularly with silver hair.
You're also probably better to look on ebay as well as gothic/alternative shops as a lot of etsy goth jewellery seems ridiculously overpriced, whereas the gothic shops are more likely to start out overpriced but put things on sale every so often.

>>8093174
Aren't they looking for dark blue though?

>>8093984
I think if you try and put big chunks of red in it will look weird (and my screen makes it look more pinky rather than red-red) - red as an accent colour, maybe. I think ivory-to-cream, maybe beige blouse + tights. Brown is also a nice option with this dress. In my opinion white will be too stark in big amounts, although you may be able to balance it if you match the blouse + tights and have a white hair accessory.
Collage break-down:
Hairclips $5 each from Sister21 on etsy
Necklace $8 from BaroquenChord on etsy
IW pink-beige cutsew 1800 yen (Closet Child) OR IW blouse 6650 yen (IW sale, size M left only)
'Cream' F21 boots $29.80 (only available in size 5.5 but they are also available in more sizes in brown)
Cream knit socks $6.80, F21

This is a pretty simple/casual outfit and obviously if you wanted to make it a bit more formal, you could get fancier tights/shoes/accessories

Another anon here : I don't really like the casual example, the blouse, tights and shoes feel too chunky and not elegant enough for the dress.
The blouse is a bit better but I think you'll be "swallowed" between the wig and the very high collar. I have this wig and it's very voluminous : I wouldn't recommend it for a toned-down/casual coord.

I would do, for a toned-down classic feeling :
- simple peter-pan collar blouse
- hairbow or flowery hair accessory (since there are small purple flowers in the print). Sweet Mildred makes gorgeous custom hair accessories to match prints
- socks or tights matching the blouse
- elegant boots, or oxfords, in a light color (same color as the shoes pictured by anon before)

As a general rule, don't mix your whites until you know what you are doing : stick to cream or ivory for your blouse color for now.

If you want to stick with the pinkish red color of the bows, you can incorporate it in your hair accessory and as a ribbon around your blouse collar, on shoe clips, and on socks motif ; a blouse in this color would be nice too, but since this is your first dress it's better to start simple.

Another options is making a country coordination with this, using the same elements as before (use a short-sleeve blouse, some wristcuffs, and a country hat to change it a bit).

Hmmm, I guess it's a matter of preference? I see what you mean about the chunkiness, but was going for the ETC thing where they tend to mix chunkier knits with dresses that are otherwise quite elegant and delicate. I think if I was to pair it with a heeled shoe I would go for a T-strap mary jane or your boots idea rather than oxfords - to me oxfords tend to be less elegant and more workwear, even with a heel.

Not the other anons, but the main issue is that your blouse and shoes are peach-pink while the beret, the wristcuffs, the Dream Sky tights and the pink in the dress are all pink pink.

Either pink could work, but not both together. You gotta chose one. If you're going with the blouse and shoes, then your wristcuffs, berets and legwear needs to be replaced with stuff that's peach pink.

If you're going with the Dream Sky tights, then you can keep the pink beret and the wristcuffs, but the peach pink blouse and shoes will need to be replaced with either white (to match the wristcuffs/moon in the print), or pink pink.

Hope that's clear enough.

I see what you're saying anon. In all honesty I'd rather go with the blouse / shoes since I only have a single pair of lolita style shoes at the moment.

Do you think that these are the right kind of peachy-pink? I can't tell from the photo, but it looks like it could work. The sax on those socks looks like its the correct color though.

That's the problem with shopping online, you'll never know until the item arrives in your hand whether it's a good colour match or not.

About the auction you linked, the lighting makes it difficult to tell. Something about the way the AP tag is discoloured in the photos (and I know for certain the AP tag is definitely pink pink) suggests that the socks aren't peach pink, though. Maybe you can send the seller a message and ask her for sure.

If you're having a problem finding peach pink legwear, another option is to go with white legwear. There's a fair amount of white in the print and the blouse so it won't look out of place. If you can't find any white socks with stars on them you could opt for geometric-patterned lace tights instead (as in, dots isntead of floral lace). Or you could try looking for the gradient blue tights that seemed popular with a lot of girls last year, if you don't mind that it's last year's trend.

Are high collars okay on you? Does it need to be a blouse or is a nice frilly cutsew okay as well? All of these are from various second hand stores - fururun, maidenclothing, tokyoalice and usagiyouhinten. It's hard to tell what would suit it without having any idea of what's in the outfit - I think all of these blouses would be okay classic, but sweet-classic is another issue entirely. Yes, I like high-collars :) I especially like the top-right blouse! I don't know the last 3 store names you mentioned, I'll have to look them up.

Fair enough re: outfit - I'm looking for a blouse that suits one or more of the things pictured. I've also got my eye on some JSKs that would require a black blouse, so anything not too "ruffly" at the front would be best. I like removable bows.

I also like cutsews! I've just not found any nice long-sleeved ones.

The blouse on Dear Celine is removed from their store now, but it had a high collar and a detachable front bow.

In my opinion the worst part of that dress is the crossed ribbon on the front and the heart thingy. If you can find a waistcoat, cardigan or blazer that will sit well over that then you will be a long way towards saving it.

I could probably just remove the crossing over ribbon in the front, but the heart in the center would be a lot harder since it is stitched down firmly at the bottom and sides. (It's tacky but I do love that the heart doubles as a pocket).

Maybe instead of sticking to sweet lolita coords, it work in a fairy kei coord? Like layering it with a parka or jacket (I think I've seen KOKOKIM or another fairy kei brand sell outerwear with matching heart pockets and such) and more casual accessories, since it isn't the most fancy lolita dress to begin with. I'm not sure if that'd clash too much.

I forgot to mention this in the original post, but also the front bow at the neckline is detachable if that helps anyone.

I got this dress from a friend for free and would like some help making a coord out of it. This is my first dress, and it is from Bodyline. Though it doesn't seem like they sell it anymore, since I couldn't find it on there.

These are some cuffs and shoes I ordered to match with them. Did I make a good decision there?

Also the shoes don't seem to match, they look like they're two different shades of blue.

>> No.8104312

>>8104298
It's really hard to find shoes in my size on bodyline, and any that existed in sax were either sold out, or not in my size. This was the only pair they had left. I kinda went out on a whim, assuming they would match because lighting differences in the actual photos vs real life photos and with the thought that majority, if not all, bodyline sax shades were the same or similar.

In terms of the fabric, it's a pretty nice and comfy fabric, and the lace is cotton lace. There are no loose threads either.

Would having accessories that have prints work with this, or should I just stick to plain solid colours? Also, and head bow and stocking/legging/sock recommendations? I was thinking maybe a big head bow would work.

Since it's for a photo shoot, you could go with a large-ish pirate ship necklace (even a ship in a bottle?), or maybe something a bit Pirates of the Caribbean like a necklace of gold doubloons. Don't mix the pinks in your accessories. Since there's already 2 shades of pink on the JSK you need to either match the lighter shade in the ruffles/bow or the darker shade in the print, and your bow looks more like the darker shade and socks like the lighter shade with the wig not really being either. I think you should get a wig without pink in it and match your pinks in person as much as possible, but otherwise white blouse sounds fine.

I like them with nice boleros/cardigans/blazers, personally. I think if you wanted to wear a blouse with that particular OP, I would go for one with a big collar to cover the neckline and minimally poofy sleeves so that the OP sleeves are not overstuffed.

I'm really bad with otome styling because I keep being too matchy-matchy but I tried for something a bit ETC-blog-inspired. I went ivory-tan-brown, the pancake tights are from atenoy/dressandtights.com and I don't think they'll be "too much" since knee boots will make them less noticeable. I know there are motifs on there other than pancakes, but man. Pancakes. Mmmm.

I'm on a set small budget, trying to pick out a few items for Wonder Story (not making a full coord), and I'm wondering if any of my 3 group choices works best? Easiest way is to see them in person, but usually you look at how light/dark they are and warm/cool (peachy vs. icy). You can usually get away with slightly lighter/darker shades when matching your pink but significantly warmer and cooler shades really stick out as not matching.

I feel like since this is such a popular birthday card theme that there should be jewellery of it somewhere, but nope. Etsy has cute gold teddy bear jewellery if you want something a bit more classy, or pink balloons/balloon animals. So I dun goofed, anons. Despite looking at every pic I could get my hands on first (both stock, worn and detail shots) this dress finally came in the mail and I was surprised to find all sorts of details in this weird shade of pink in the print along with the blue and white, pic related.

100% was not prepared for, I feel like I've gotta totally rethink my coord now. The silver seems like a bad idea now, should i perhaps just stick with the white and navy stuff and add in a few pink accents instead? (I could probably find some tiny pink flowers/stars to add in to the wristwear and headpiece for example)

Once again, any help appreciated

Pink might be better than silver if you want to pick up on the print detail, but there's nothing wrong with the silver if you keep it balanced. If you want to bring small hints of pink (and I would definitely think small hints are the best) I would go with a white bag and your idea of tiny pink stars.

Vertical stripes, really? Unless it's SUPER super subtle then no. You could definitely get away with a printed motif down the side (think IW, these are super cute and do the black/grey thing) if you don't want plain lace OTKs

I'm not sure if maybe you're new to lolita, but if you're having trouble, try figuring out which colours you like best in the print and start from there, you don't want to add in all sorts of mismatchy colours that aren't repeated and balanced elsewhere in the coord.

Alright, I am a fucking liar because I cannot find any decent brown boleros right now in ANY price range, so I am sorry but I went with red. The bolero is the only expensive item, I am sure if you went searching you could find a cheaper option on taobao or something. Considering you are a beginner I made an effort to make sure all of these things can currently be purchased.

Keep in mind that reds are notoriously difficult to match... I have seen that bolero in person so I am preeettty sure it is a brighter red than in the picture, but I am not %100. Don't trust me explicitly on that matter.

Also mini top hats are almost always super cheap and costumey looking, truly they are the mark of an ita above all other things.

I think it'd be very cute as a country outfit - short-sleeve black peter pan collar blouse, berry accessories, straw hat, straw bag, ankle socks and short boots. The gingham doesn't really lend itself as well to more elegant rockabilly/retro styling, but you could always try that as well (back seam tights, shrug, pumps, victory roll...)

This may still be a bit plain for you but I had a vague idea for black and grey as these tights (Calzedonia, only available in store, you'll need a Eurofag/UK person to get them for you) basically have all the paris landmark architecture on them and are therefore awesome. I could also see this dress in a very pearls-and-fur sort of outfit.

Grey and pink colour co-ordinations can look exceedingly stunning. I don't think its ita, it just depends on what you co-ordinate it with.
