We need one of these.
General discussion, recommendations, tips.

For starters, I'm looking for recomemndations of good corean products for the following:
>A good serum to fade acne scars
>A good lotion to tighten pores
>Something other than a mask to sucsessfully get rid of blackheads
>A good whitening cream because my skin is full of dark spots and scars

>> No.8065538

okay let's see here. Niacinamide, chemical exfoliation and protection from the sun (or to be specific uva/uvb rays) are the best treatments for spot fading. Snail filtrate has been rumoured to have a good healing affect for acne, and some say spot fading. Pore tightening is a harder one as some studies say that your pores don't/can't shrink, only look bigger and get bigger from gunk and picking! A good bha and moisture routine will helped me feel better about that shit. But 9001 products also claim to help so its a bit trial and error for each person.

Blackheads respond well to salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, and glycol in acid ?- charcoal and clay worked for me, but generally those are in masks so that may not be of help.

Whitening like ah lighten a shade or like brightening your skin? The former idk about. The latter is chem exfoliation, sunscreen everyday, niacinamide if you like it, and nice make up tbh.

product recs:
>missha charcoal konjac sponge (blackheads)
>skinfood pore sake toner (primer /serum/pore shrink er. haven't used but head nice things about)
>witch hazel toner (pore shrinker/gunk cleaner)
>mizon starfish/snail products (starfish fades but is kinda stinky, snail heals and moisturizes with a neutral smell and a easier price.)
>cosrx blackhead liquid/ various other products. (kinda a chemical exfoliant, kinda a spot treatment depending. smells terrible, works tho haha)
>sheet masks galore, tomato, pearl, rice, lemon, etc varieties will usually help brighten your face and fade marks.
>benton snail bee line (haven't used but apparently good for acne scars)

sorry that wasn't the exact format you wanted! but I hope it helps. and haha, I haven't been here for a while so it's nice to be back

i have no help for you anon, except outside of possibly recommending the etude wonderpore brush

i tried out some stuff today (pic related is how i felt through the whole thing) but i would ultimately recommend them. I have no idea about what long-term use would be like, but short term they're good. All Etude House.

>Collagen Eye Patches
Fucking weird. Really thin too, so have fun trying to separate them. Stick to your face like glue and says to leave them for ~15 minutes. I left them for 30 until they dried and seemed fine. the bags under my eyes were reduced pretty well and my dark circles looked less... dark, but that could just be the patches being cold. It lasts for like a day so good before a party/event.

>Cherry Lip Gel Patch
Even weirder than the eye patches. You look like a serial killer clown wearing it and its fucking huge. Don't even think about moving your mouth or looking down, otherwise it affixes really well. Left it on for the same amount of time as the eye bags and my lips/lip area felt better afterwards. I'd suggest using a balm afterwards though, to really make your lips joocy.

>Kissable Lip Smooth Care
It's a lip scrub, basically. Don't get it inside your mouth because it tastes vile, and it clogs sometimes, but it does its job and smells ok.

>My Lash Serum
Easy to apply, just like mascara. I don't know if its made my lashes longer as they're already long and thick, but they seem to be falling out less. It gives me peace of mind i suppose.

>Collagen Moistfull Sleeping Pack
I've had this for like six months and it's still not run out. It absorbs easily and quickly and my face feels nice when I wake up the next morning. It's really heavily perfumed though, so I might find something else when it does actually run out.

I used a face mask too but it's a cheap superdrug thing nobody cares about.

I have a green tea nose pore thing (surprise surprise also from Etude House) but I've had enough face applications for today thank you.

Thank you for all the solid advice anon! I love that you recommended specifi products because I'm planning my purchase.
I have used Benton's Snail Bee last year for around 6 months and ran out of it in december. I really loved it! It's very nice to apply, feels light and not sticky at all. I believe it helped me a lot with my dark spots and scars so I'm buying a new botter with this purchase. I highly recommend it!
I've heard wonderful things about Laneige's PORE TIGHTENING ESSENCE, I really want to try that one out! I had been reading a lot about pore enlargment and learned that, as you mentioned, you can't shrink pores; but you can keep them as clean as possible in order to make them look smaller. This product seems t be excellent for that!
I've been recommended to try products with BHA to treat redness and acne marks. This one seems to be good, have you heard about it? -> http://www.ebay.com/itm/BENTON-Aloe-BHA-Skin-Toner-200ml-/111058388054?pt=US_Skin_Care&hash=item19db988456&afsrc=1&rmvSB=true

the Benton bha is at too high a ph to exfoliate but it will help with redness! the mizon aha/bha toner, some Tonymoly aha products, and the cosrx products are at the correct oh for exfoliating (the mispronounce one just barely tho haha)

Anon here who tried OCM and needs some recovery guidance. First couple days were so nice, blackheads and sebum plugs falling right out of the pores on my nose. But then come the papules. All over my forehead. I'm covered in huge, angry red bumps filled with clear fluid that never come to a head and don't go away unless I pick at them, they scab, and the scab heals. I feel so ugly I don't even want to leave the house. I had mild acne before but this is so much worse than anything I've ever had. I don't even want to experiment finding oils that might be better, I just want this to heal. I discontinued OCM about two weeks ago, but how do I reset my skin? I'm using benzoyl peroxide wash and cream right now to take the swelling down, but is there anything better I should use or products I should avoid? Will this just take time?

The OCM isn't for everyone. Your skin sounds like it reacted pretty badly to it. Were you using a cleanser after oil massaging? Anyway, just revert back to whatever routine you had before starting oil cleansing and for the love of god DON'T pick at your skin. If anything, lance them with a sterilized needle and put a hydrocolloid bandage on top so that a flat scab forms. You can pick them up at most any pharmacy or grocery store. Mine look like this.

holy crap that's awful anon, I'm so sorry for you! 100% aloe vera, apple cider vinegar diluted 50/50 with water, the mizon snail recovery gel, a bha and clean and clear moisturizer with salicylic acid are parts of my go to routine for when I get a breakout.

essentially what I do is:
>wash face (cetaphil)
>tone with acv (sometimes I mix it with green tea instead of water. whatever you like really! it's stinky though.)
>(pm) bha (Paula's 2% rn, let it set for 15-20 mins). (am) skipped.
>mizon snail recovery gel
(and/or)
>aloe vera, let it sink in a bit
(and/or)
>clean and clear moisturizer
(and/or)
>heavier moisturizer
>sunscreen
>(pm) makeup remover

I add or remove things as necessary, and sometimes products like that Benton toner and essence feature in my routine, but I haven't bought a full size of those for a while because the dollar is down. I recommend them though.

no matter what you do it will take time though I'm afraid to say.

Proven, effective, inexpensive skincare. I live by the following (not my words, I should add):

Face:
[1]T he only proven topical treatment to prevent and improve fine lines and wrinkles is Retin-A/Tretinoin (the acne treatment). It's understandably prescription only here. I buy the lowest prescription concentration when in Europe for less than £10 for a decent size tube. There is LOADS of information and advice online on how to use it properly and safely.

[2] Forget expensive facials, the earlier one gets into the habit of AHA peels the better. You don't need to pay an extortionate amount at a salon as you can do them at home. BRAVURA sell Glycolic acid up to 50% concentration and do a range of cleansing products. I use a daily cleanser with 10% Glycolic acid - less than £10.

>> No.8066508

[3] Rosehip Oil! As a night or pre moisturiser. Combined with Witch Hazel water as a toner it's an amazing combination. Rosehip oil helps to fade pigmentation. Witch Hazel is a natural astringent and great for oily skins. You don't need to spend a stupid amount on Trilogy Rosehip Oil. Naturally Thinking do a great range of excellent quality carrier oils and floral waters for very reasonable prices.

Teeth:
Unless you have very badly stained teeth, you may first want to try Crest White Strips before spending hundreds on professional whitening. I used them before my wedding and was surprised at how well they worked. I'm glad I gave them a shot as I had almost gone for professional treatments. I've recommended them to countless people since and they've all had good results. Go for #3 or #4 but spread out the usage to avoid tooth sensitivity. The results will be the same but take slightly longer to achieve.

Body Hair:
Know the difference between Laser and IPL. Laser is far more effective in the treatment of hair than IPL and at home IPL should not even be considered unless you like to waste your time and money. The point of going for professional hair removal is permanent results. Laser can deliver a permanent hair reduction at best. IPL is classed the same. The professional machines cost tens of thousands of pounds and the the technicians needs to be trained thoroughly for a reason. At home machines are glorified temporary methods. Electrolysis is the only method which can give permanent hair removal.

I've had Laser and electrolysis. I have completely hair free underarms and bikini line. I have almost hair free legs and arms (due to finish up with electrolysis soon). I like to keep my eyebrows natural but had them tidied up with electrolysis so I never have to give a single though to whether they look presentable or not. The rest of my facial fuzz - (upperlip and beard area) has been reduced to barely visible levels from electrolysis.

>> No.8066510

Feet:
The product in the article sounds good (if it works) for feet in really bad condition. Other options are Flexitol Heel Balm and good ol' Castor Oil. Castor oil is very viscous so a little bit goes a long way. Not only will it keep heels smooth and soft but it's great for the toes and nails. You only need a drop or two at a time and it should be massaged into the skin thoroughly - once it is, the greasiness is gone.

With the exception of Laser/IPL everything else is inexpensive and WORKS.

The recovery gel gets recd a lot on these threads, sometimes by me even. It's pretty universally helpful as a light moisturizer and redness treatment. The effect it has on acne healing seems to be more varied but I find it helpful. It's only 5-7$ on eBay with free shipping too, which is helpful. (We can rec legit sellers if you need that!)

and aloe ver is always a good place to start. it's so soothing and nice smelling that honestly it's nice to have in your routine even if your face isn't melting.

But definitely take a look into a toner as well, they're cheap, generally well received by all skin types, and there are so many varieties that can help with any range of ailment. Have you thought about a once weekly clay mask? anything with bentonite clay should work for you, even if they are a bit messy. Be really really careful about what you pick at. I broke out pretty much immediately when I tried OCM so gave it up as a bad idea - fuck this 'purging' shit that people try to tell you that it is, I was getting pimples in places I had never had them before, similar to you. The key thing is DO. NOT. SQUEEZE otherwise they may end up as new permanent sites where you keep getting pimples and acne. Benzoyl peroxide may be too irritating for you at this stage so I would try a gentler cleanser (cetaphil is a good idea) and also aloe vera with witchhazel, maybe something like niacinamide which is anti-inflammatory. You need to be soothing and calming your skin down at this stage, maybe with gentle chemical exfoliation. Be careful if you want to use salicylic acid *and* benzoyl peroxide as it may irritate things further.

hmm, are you sure it was the oil and not something else or possibly a coincidence? Many people have had fantastic success using it but a few have reported breakouts or bumpy pimples after use as well. Unfortunately some products, even well-tolerated ones won't be suitable for everyone.

There is also the chance that your skin, despite seeming oily, is actually combination type and the dyer patches had been used to heavier moisturizing up until the point you used the oil..

You only ever want to use a couple of drops of the stuff and if you need an extra moisturizer boost, it can be added to your regular nightcream or light cream moisturizer.

just to add, after the bha, you may have been used to using a more intensive moisturizer type afterwards. Maybe looking up generic 'neutral eyeshadow' tutorials or a light smoky eye with shades of grey and purple would be more up your alley.

I have a question about AHAs/BHAs and Niacinamide.

I have both blackheads/comodones and sun damage (uneven skin tone). I have a few products and I'm not sure how to use them.

I have AHA (14% glycolic acid swipes), Paula's Choice BHA 2%, Ponds Dark Spot Correcting Niacinamide Cream (doesn't really seem like I need this), Eltamd Uv Clear SPF 46 (contains Niacinamide), CeraVe Niacinamide Cleanser.

I'm thinking about getting some chemical peels for the sun damage but I'm a bit scared to. Anyway, given the products I have, how would you guys use these (with the exception of the sunscreen and cleanser because i know when to use those)? Like should I be using AHA and BHA at the same time at night? Should I even bother with the niacinamide cream?

Also, have any of you successfully reversed sun damage? I'm freaking out because I've had discoloration for 3 years now and I feel like my skin will never get better. I've been using sunscreen pretty consistently fo 5 months or so but I've seen no difference.

I would alternate AHA and BHA at night, both of those are exfoliants so you should have a moisturiser afterwards. Since you say there's sun damage I would avoid using the AHA or BHA in the mornings since they increase sun sensitivity which is the last thing you want right now! I would hold back on the chemical peels until you have used these products for a while (4-6 weeks), that way you know you won't react to AHA/BHA. Using sunscreen alone only prevents further damage rather than reversing it so I don't expect you to see any changes until you start using things like vitamin C serum, AHAs etc.

Asian skincare is usually 5-10 years ahead of Western skincare because as a whole, Asian society is more obsessed with good skin and preventative skincare, so there's more money in developing products and more sales to be made. I find that in general people only have a skincare 'routine' if they need to fix something, vs. in Asia where you develop a skincare routine so you never need to fix anything. For example, sunscreen is something that people only use on sunny days at the beach, not because it's anti-aging and the prospect of putting it on when it's overcast or not sunny? Forget about it unless you're albino or have super fair skin, and even then you'll here "gosh, you're SO white/pasty" and not in a complimentary way. Tanning and sunburn are signs of a good, carefree holiday, not markers of skin damage. That means the range of sunscreens available here is targeted to convenience, for outdoor activities, and for someone who's like me and acne-prone there's not a lot of targeted products I can wear daily. Makeup is a big deal here, but good preventative skincare is not.

Also, cgl has a fair amount of ethnically Asian people on here, myself included - so maybe that skews things as well.

Not related to your post much, but it actually reminded me, as a PSA to people concerned about ageing:
You should pretty much start wearing anti-ageing products at about 21-15 years old, depending on your skin type. If you have dry skin, younger as well as if you have acne and eye-bags or do a lot of exaggerated facial expressions regularly. Anti ageing products are just that. ANTI ageing. You don't start using them when you notice yourself looking older, you should start using them before those signs start showing.

America has better anti aging "oh shit, I'm old" products but I feel like Asian ones are good for preventative care, aren't nearly as harsh, and are way better quality. The quality of most of the stuff I have is on par with the $60 creams I've tried. I use a mix myself, Asian cleansers (double cleansing is awesome) western toner and eye cream (algenist complete eye renewal balm is my HG for dark circles and I use witch hazel with rose water for toner) I'm also using a western serum at the moment that I'm hoping to replace with "it's skin" effectors because it's a stupid expensive price. (Dr Dennis gross brightening solution $80) the rest is Asian stuff, but I'm trying to rehaul and experiment so I have ~$200 of Korean shit in the mail right now. I think if I can find a good replacement for my eye cream, I'll switch out everything but my toner and lactic acid peels. The serum was a nice experiment but I don't really need retinol because I have no wrinkles and my acne has been very minimal since I started double cleansing.

I came to ask about skin lightening, because I have acne scars and alot of discoloration on my butt and thighs....but I searched it first and read most of the replies for that subject in this thread.

So, I'm not gonna ask again, so much as extend the question; are there any specific product recommends (skin lighting to cure acne scars, dark spots and other skin discolorations) for brown skinned people? I'm a caramel colored black girl, and alot of products and such seem to work poorly or mess up the skin of people with melanin in their skin. I think some type of topical cream is what I really want atm

I've been using Kojie soap for about a month...no oticable changes thus far, OR all of my face is getting lighter, and thus everything is lighter around the scars...so basically "nothing" happened.

in addition, i'm noticing that threads are becoming a little redundant, because we keep asking each other the same questions.
Can we make a few infographs with some standard info? Especially for techniques and products that some of us have had success with; because I think thats the important thing; we're asking each other because we want a personal opinion, not so much some random review with "it does this, etc etc"

I bought these products in a haul a few years back when I had more acne and an oilier face but now my skin is more combo dry with a t-zone that gets oily over time. I still use the oil as spot treatment now, not sure how well the concentration/price compares to the health food store versions but it works for now so I'll probably compare when I run out.

Their Aloe line is pretty good, skip the night cream and just get the protective restoring mask. More bang for your buck, feels better imo and can be doubled as an all purpose moisturizer tbh depending on your level of heavy moisturizer tolerance. I think I tried 2 serums from them and they honestly just feel light lotions, not worth it.

What have you tried, and what active ingredients did they have? What is your current routine? How long did you try them for?

Acne prone skin usually reacts to anything that upsets it with...more acne, so it's important you introduce products slowly and gently. If you strip the oils too much you may think 'yay my skin isn't oily' but then also irritate your skin, which can lead to more breakouts.
I would start with just a cleanser, toner and moisturiser. I can't advise specifically on an entirely Korean product routine that has worked for me as my current combination is a mix of things and I still get acne, but I do like and use the Innisfree Volcanic Pore Clay Mask.

I probably should have put that in my post. My bad. I've tried Acne Stress Control Scrub from Neutrogena that's 2% Salicylic Acid twice a day, morning and night for two weeks. I saw no changes neither positive or negative. I recently switched over to Clean & Clear Continuous Control that's 10% Benzoyl Peroxide. I've been using it probably for a week now, so it's a bit too early to tell if it's really working, but so far I see no change.

I was concerned about over doing it, but should I be using the Neutrogena Stress Control and the Clean & Clear together since they're different active ingredients?

Then I have On-the-Spot Acne Treatment from Neutrogena that has been somewhat helpful for the really bad ones, but I still look like a pizza face.

After I cleanse, I use Yes to Tomatoes Clear Skin moisturizer which I kinda like, but I'm not sure if it's helping or harming.

Not the same anon, but don't be sorry at all! It's important to experiment a little as everyone reacts differently to different products. People with the same skin type aren't for sure all going to react the same to a product.

Personally, I use tea tree oil to spot treat my acne and thayer's unscented witch hazel as a toner. I've also used Clean & Clear's persa-gel for spot treatment in the past and that worked for me as well but I find that tea tree oil works faster. You may want to try gel or gel creams for a moisturizer. Aloe vera gel is pretty soothing and a good start for oily to normal skin, not moisturizing enough for dry skin though.

Don't worry about it - at least you're trying.

I don't like cleansers with microbeads because I find if I have active acne (irritated, red, sore, or has heads) then it makes it more likely to scar/get worse since I'm basically scratching already irritated skin. If you don't mind it, keep using the Clean and Clear one - no point in switching if you've still got some left.

Since the on-the-spot treatment has benzoyl peroxide in it (which seems to help a bit) I would recommend trying a toner that will double as a chemical exfoliant, maybe one with 2% salicylic acid. I would also switch moisturizers to something with more of a gel consistency - my favourite summer moisturiser is a cheap aloe vera gel with tea tree oil in it, although if you have open spots from picking then they'll sting and if you have combination skin, chances are it won't be moisturising enough for your dry bits (which is why I only use it in summer). Tea tree oil does nothing for me as a spot treatment, but in aloe vera gel it seems to help prevent things getting worse.

What have you tried before that makes this happen? Maybe try a gel/gel-cream while you spot treat the acne and then move on to some stronger moisturizers when the acne lessens.

I have one day before the con. I've been fading my acne marks with kojic acid and cocoa butter for the past week and a half. It's worked wonders on my face, but my chest and back are still looking a little gnarly. Is there anything I can do with so little time left, or will I be stuck putting makeup on it all weekend?

What kind of skin do you have? Oily? Dry? I also have super acne prone skin, and it's oily. I use the Oil Free Acne Wash from Neutrogena twice a day, rather than the scrub because my dermatologist told me not to use scrubs more than two or three times a week for the same reasons that other anon stated. (It irritates the skin). Once in a while I'll use Aveeno's Positively Radiant daily scrub (maybe like twice a week) while I'm in the shower for a gentle exfoliate.

It's all about finding a routine that works on your skin. The Oil Free Acne Wash is very drying, but honestly doesn't really dry out my skin too much, it really helps me dry out my acne and makes my skin soft. I can feel it being tight though, so I just slap on some moisturizer and I'm good. But I've seen reviews where it's too harsh for some people even though it's what works best for me. Try not to get anything with microbeads for the facewash you're using daily.

For a toner I use Witch Hazel. I found that I still needed a bit of a kick, so I'm using this Witch Hazel/Apple Cider Vinegar/Green Tea mixture at the moment. (poorfag graduate trying not to break the bank here) Otherwise, I use just Witch Hazel, I switch it up depending how my skin's acting that day. For spot treatment, I use pure ACV. If I've got a bad breakout, I put on the ACV and then some Tea Tree oil and that seems to help me best. If I have open sores (because I pick....) I dab some Vitamin E oil on it and leave it be. Then I moisturize with some lotion called Simple that I got from the store. I don't know much about moisturizers but it's what works for me since it's not greasy. That other anon who talks about aloe gel as a moisturizer sounds smart, so I'm thinking of giving it a shot.

But also adult acne is a bitch, and it's not just all topical so you should probably look into taking vitamin supplements to help kill the inflamation from the inside. Sorry for long rant, just trying to help a fellow acne anon.

Sure! The "protective restoring" thing is actually just the name of the mask lol sorry was lazy to capitalize. The idea of it is a leave-in mask so you apply it after all your other skincare steps to seal everything and have an extra layer of moisture. It's gentle and rich without being too heavy imo, at first I used it like a sleeping pack (left it on overnight) but honestly it applies like a nice cream moisturizer so I ended up using it as such lol. Still applied it as the last step of my skincare routine. It's 100mL for almost the same price as the night cream which is only 50mL. So yah you can use it day or night and it's non-irritating and also wasn't oily as a heavier moisturizer. Never used the day cream (50mL, slight cheaper) and haven't tried any of the stuff in the tubes (really wanted to try the lotion with spf but it's never in stock during a good sale online...) but tried the Protective Serum and I would say skip as it just felt like a light lotion that didn't do anything spectacular plus it's only 30mL for the same price as the mask! Boo. TBS always has sales so I wait until the better ones to haul stuff but it would be a definitely repurchase for me in the future. Hope that helps!

Do you exfoliate? That can help with the flakiness and possibly the blackheads. You can also use a konjac sponge for some gentle daily exfoliation. Are you waiting for your pimples disappear on their own with time or did you want to start with some spot treatment? You can try tea tree oil, just drop the oil on a q-tip and then apply it to the pimple. Do not slather all over because that stuff is strong and will definitely hurt on dry cracked areas.

I would still go ahead with a gel-cream first just in case your skin can't adjust to something super rich right away. Also, you might benefit from layering your products to prep your face for more moisture. For example, start off with a toner, serum, and/or light lotion so that your skin can absorb it first since it's lighter and then apply a thicker/heavier product on top like a cream.

Gonna go with what: >>8068303 and >>8068313 said (except I used the sample packet)
My skin is pretty thick and even I noticed it was a bit harsh and I can only imagine the micro scratches it was causing from the rough edges of the sugar crystals.

On a related noted about this recent charcoal skin cleanser trend, I've tried Biore's deep pore foaming charcoal cleanser and that also didn't do much for my blackheads. If anything, I think the foaming sort of blocked or prevented the charcoal from actually getting in the pores to do their job. I also felt like there wasn't that much charcoal in it to begin with.
The only thing I liked was that it had a tingly refreshing effect but that's as far as it went for me.

Thank you everyone for taking the time to respond to me. I really do appreciate it.

Taking in everyone's suggestions, I think for now I'll stick with the Clean & Clear cleanser I've been using, but I'll introduce witch hazel for a toner and try an aloe gel moisturizer.

I'll be honest, I didn't even know toner was a thing until now. I feel so silly.

I'll be ditching that one scrub I tried and looking for a replacement to use once or twice a week since it makes sense that it would irritate my skin. (And also, the microbeads are plastic made and very bad for the environment.)

I will also be trying that Innisfree face mask one anon really liked.

Thanks again, everyone.

I'm hoping to get a bunch of samples too. I actually like tonymoly stuff so I'm good with getting that. My haul is somewhere between Korea and the US right now. I'm sad though because it was supposed to arrive by now. Thankfully I live like two hours from customs and they clear it all through quickly in my experience. I used Jolseusa from Amazon because they're legit and offer cheap flat rate ems shipping ($25 dollars per order. Worth it if you buy a lot and I hear they're generous with samples) I have a good mix of stuff .
Etude House: bb cushion, 10 collagen eye patches, peach lip perfume breath spray(?) Lip tint, hair serum, eye shadow cushion, brow pencil
Skin food: black sugar cleansing oil, black sugar wash off mask
It's skin: power 10 vc effectors in vita c, syn-ake, and blue for freckles
Innisfree: 7 green tea sheet masks
Tonymoly: Panda's dream eye base (primer) panda's dream cooling eye stick, panda's dream sleeping pack, and petit bunny gloss bar in peach
Benton: snail bee essence, snail bee lotion

As you can see I was a total sucker for the panda stuff, but I have eyes so tired I legitimately have trouble keeping them open some times because they're that fatigued so the cooling stick sounds wonderful, like icy hot for your eyes, and the primer stick I heard makes you look more awake. Worst case scenario, I have cute packages to display with those.

I'm also looking for a good body serum that's going to help with my freckles (hereditary plus growing up in the desert without sunscreen) I found a lotion on amazon that's a mild peel (10% glycolic and 2% salicilic acid.) Also a promising serum from the face shop. I was really disappointed in Kojie San dream white because a bar only lasted a week so I might try lika's if the other serums don't work. 50% lactic acid works really well on my face but is too expensive the full body. I did a TCA body peel a few weeks ago and while it made my skin feel like silk, I don't like being a lizard for a week.

Whoops, meant the snail healing cream! I hadn't even realised there was a standard Darling Cream.

Made the purchases from some eBay sellers, can't wait to smear snail sauce on my face to slow down ageing. I'll check in if it works.

On another note, I've been using The Body Shop's tea tree oil and tea tree facial wash for about three weeks. 23 years old, have combination skin and acne all over my face (mostly in the T-zone; didn't get acne until a pretty late puberty in high school). Facial wash once at night, and I started just applying TTO once at night and then moved up to TTO morning and night.

The TTO and facial wash in combination definitely reduce redness of existing pimples, and it seems like they also shorten pimple life (pushes them to heal/pop quicker). They also reduce pimple itchiness for a while after it's applied, so I'm more likely to forget about them instead of picking at them.
Pimples are generally becoming less noticeable, but now that they're not red splotches all over my face, I'm really noticing how many acne scars I have. :(
I like the smell, which is kind of medicinal (in a natural feel) and clean. Reminds me of witch hazel, but less strong.

Exaggerated facial expressions (think raising your eyebrows super high, making weird mouth shapes, etc) create and indent face wrinkles. Baby fingers look like fat smooth sausages compared to adult hands because babies haven't had as long to stretch out their skin and make skin folds. Same goes for your face!

Are you sure they're blackheads? You might be confusing them with sebaceous filaments. They occur naturally in everyone and they fill up after a couple days after you express them. So I recently started to use this stuff after reading about it in a magazine. I do raw honey masks every once in a while but stopped after I ran out because I was too lazy to replace.

Holy shit this crap is amazing? It's two of my my favorite things in one, honey...from a tea tree. Masks from it are super hydrating, it's a wicked spot corrector, gets rid of redness, all this other shit. I've heard of people using it for infections, MOHS surgery wounds, and other shit because of its antibacterial properties as well.

So yeah, I'm behind this stuff A+ helped a lot with my crappy acne skin as well, and is a great moisturizer for shitty the shitty weather, if you don't mind dropping at least $24 for a jar of this stuff. It lasts a super long time though.

Not sure when I'll open it though since I'm loving the ampoule (winter) cushion from Innisfree right now.

I love innisfree! I already ordered so much from their official site and that's why I didn't have to order as much (lol...) of their stuff in this haul. The lucky pack is such a good deal!! I'm so tempted to get the green tea set since my serum is already more than half empty but I already ordered twice from them in the past half a year so I think I need to really hold back. Try a different foundation. Silicone based ones will be smoother and not have that chalky flaky texture. Get something more high-end. I got the Revlon ColorStay foundation that everyone raves about, figured it was 8 dollars for a try no harm. It's TERRIBLE on me. Flakes and dries and makes me look like a zombie. Back to MAC I guess.

I'm looking to buy the Holika Holika Petit BB cream but I don't know if the clearing or the shimmering would be better. Ugh, does anyone else here scar really bad? I am just about keeping my acne under control with every 'specialist' cream, toner and cleanser under the sun and birth control. I still have hard bumps and hyperpigmentation from spots I got 10 years ago. I don't get typical acne zits, more like deep, hard cysts, but not so many at once that I qualify as a severe case so doctor gives no fucks. I just hate that every so often i get a perma-spot and hyperpigmentation that doesn't respond to light therapy, hot soaks, BP, 3 kinds of acid etc. I can cope with regular spots but not these things. I've tried niacimide, snail shit, bio oil, retinoid creams, bleaching creams etc Because the marks stick around so long, they just build up ecen if I don't get many active spots at one time these days.

No one believes me or thinks I'm overhyping my acne because I'm good at my foundation. I sit listening to all my friends who wear no makeup at all bitching about how bad their skin is and how perfect mine is- bitch are you BLIND. I'm wearing foundation because I fucking have to...

I came to /cgl for the LARP thread, this caught thread caught my eye and has made me realism just how bad my skin is, and how poorly I treat it.

cleanser, toner, moisturizer. eye cream is optional and will depend on what issue you're treating. exfoliation and masks are not necessary for everyone, but only if you deem them to be so and will also depend on what issues you aim to treat with them. your basic three step will depend on what type of skin you have; very dry, normal, combination, very oily, acne prone, sensitive. the trips who ran makeup supplied this often and it helped many here.

In the morning when I'm doing my skin care routine, after I apply whatever spot treatment, I dip a q-tip into the vitamin e oil and dab it on all the "problem areas", ie: scabs and open shit from my picking, the discoloration from shit that scarred, surgery scar, etc. And then I just..leave it, and then let it air dry. It always takes at most an hour to dry for me, except for the spots where it's open stuff from me picking. That takes a while to dry since it's like...healing an open wound but I've learned to not care if it looks like I have vaseline on little dabs on my face since I don't scar from it.

But the days I don't have open sores, I wait 30min-hour for it to dry and then I can put on whatever concealer/cover up for the day. It makes my skin routine longer and a bit tedious, but I don't want scars and this is all that I found that helps me. Once I get my acne under control and it's not actively popping up, I'm gonna look into chemcial peels, but vitamin e's a good start.

That's weird! I use the same sunscreen and don't have the streaking problem. I use aloe vera gel for a facial moisturizer, though. But if dabbing is helping your skin absorb, that's probably fine and might be gentler on your facial elasticity.

For fading acne scars
>Mizon Herbal Orange Blossom Ampoule
I love it! There's tons of flower extracts. It's a bit pricy though (probably 20$+)
The rest, I don't really know. However, I have tons of products so let me share some with you, anon!
>Milkydress Vita C Powder
Like the title says, it's vitamin c powder. I mix it with my serum so it brightens and moisturizes my skin (it won't make your skin oily). I don't see any bad ingredients. Just don't put too much.
>Skinfood Gold Caviar Collagen Massage Mask
I don't use this to massage my mask but as a sleeping pack. It's wonderful. It's not sticky, it deeply moisturizes your skin and it makes your skin soft and smooth like a baby's!
>The Face Shop Lovely Me:ex Lip Care Bebe Lip Essence
My second favorite lip balm. It has spf 10.
My #1 is the ettusais's one for winter but you can only buy it through Rakuten.
>Innisfree Super Volcanic Pore Clay Mask
This mask is perfect. It somehow suits my dry skin. It removes oil on your face, makes your pores smaller, removes some blackheads.
There are other versions of this product but this one is meant for oilier skin types because there's more "volcanic" extracts?? (something like this. my english sucks ;;)
>Nature Republic Collagen Dream Vitamin C Capsule Foam Cleanser
Back when I had oily skin, I used this.
It cleanses very well and brightens your skin.
Sadly, my skin is now dry so this was kind of drying for me. I now use the Milkydress Sparkling Decanting Cleanser which has lots of flowers (especially roses) extracts.
>Etude House AC Clinic Intense Exctractor
It's made to remove blackheads but it's just a blackhead remover tool. there's tons of them.
Here how to use it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oq1c1iHQp8Q
>Skinfood Black Pomegranate Oil
If you ever want to use an oil to moisturize your face, this one is great. It absorbs very fast and it's not greasy so it fits oily skin.
I'm sorry if I don't help that much, I don't really have much skin problems and it's dry

My skin is pretty good. I don't tend to get spots or blackheads frequently.
Right now I just use coconut oil as a cleanser and use Lush's Dream Cream as a moisturiser and put 8 Hour Cream on any problem areas.
It pretty much just maintains my skin, it doesn't improve it very much.

My skin is extremely sensitive, I've had very painful reactions just to regular foundations before. Mostly around my nose where it's often red and there are very small bumps. My skin is also very dry and I have dark shadows under my eyes.

Can anyone give some recommendations for what I can use that will improve my skin and help with anti-ageing.

Look into MSM cream. MSM is a type of sulfur that stimulates collagen production (this statement has not been verified by the FDA blah blah blah) I discovered it through a blog post recommending it for filling in acne scars. I mainly had hyper-pigmentation and some shallow scarring, and it seemed to make a difference in both.

It has kind of an odd smell, sort of like the lotion an old person uses, but it helped fade my red spots and seems to keep my skin tone more even when I use it regularly. It also leaves my hands and cheeks freakishly soft, like "magic silky baby skin" soft.

I had been buying the brand "MRM" from amazon, but people are saying they changed their formula to include propylene glycol and petroleum jelly which suxxx. The other brands I'm looking at now are "source naturals" and "at last." At Last says 'no parabens' on the bottle but the ingredients list like 5 different parabens. Wut.

Anyways, look around on amazon for "MSM cream" and see what you think. Of course there are people saying 'does not work do not buy, what rip off' like every other product on the market but there are also hundreds of people saying it miraculously. filled in their acne scars and faded their spots. Just be sure to read the ingredients, and see what negative reviews say about how comedogenic they are.

Oh, also it has a tendency to form little sulfur crystals in the cream, which some people freak out about but it's never really bothered me. It gets more noticeable as the cream ages, for sure.

I've posted this before for people, but, in order:

Shave/wash face as normal

Moisturise if you don't already and wait for a couple minutes

Primer/concealer: Optional. Primer helps make up stay on, concealer covers flaws.

Foundation: Can be powder, mouse or liquid, liquid has the best coverage but powder goes on easier, pick according to skin type/personal preference.

Powder: Helps make up to set/mattifies

Contoring: Optional. Using bronzer or matte eyeshadow to redefine face features (cheek/jaw bones etc. there's a good guide floating around). You need a highlight and a shadow and at least one brush. There are proper kits for it around now. Don't over do it or you'll look like the tumblr snk girls

Eye make up: eyeliner, shadow, mascara. Optional. Defines eyes. Unless you're crossplaying you're unlikely to need eyeshadow. Eyeliner and mascara can be done more naturally with brown eyeliner and clear mascara. Pencil eyeliner will smudge but not look as dramatic, gel/liquid gives a more solid line.

Eyebrows: Optional. Again kits are available now. Be prepared to pluck/thin yours to get them under control.

If you're worried about anything, get a girl friend to help. Don't expect to go to a convention and put everything on for the first time and for it to look good, you need to practice at home first. If you're worried about shopping, go somewhere more expensive. I know in the UK, for example, Boots has a policy about being extra helpful towards men in the makeup section because of transwomen etc. Also consider going to another town rather than where you normally shop.

For colour matching foundation, you need to test it on your jaw line, and in natural light, so take a mirror and go outside. Again, take a friend if you need to.

Price wise, ignore what everyone says on here about the most expensive being the best: it may well be, but if you're only using it a few times a year it's not worth it. You should spend the most on foundation.

I say that natural eyeshadow is more subtle than eyeliner, and also easier to apply.

But yeah, you can be cheap on the mascara especially since they dry out much quicker than the other products. You can also cheap out on the eyeshadow, but only if you have eyelid primer (or not it risks being flaky).

>Primer helps make up stay on

This is mainly for oily skin problems. Drier/problematic skin (eczema patches, keratosis pilaris etc etc) does not benefit from a silicone based primer's mattifying effects. Primer for dry skin that is marked as "hydrating" (it usually ore or less helps your skin retain moisture rather than adding to it) is like moisturizer. I don't think primer is essential for anyone's skin. Well, not like proper skin care is, for example but if you have very oily skin and would like to mattify your skin, silicone-based is the way to go.

I would say concealer is optional only if you have decent skin anyway. If you have redness from acne or shaving a green concealer dabbed on to your reddened areas will go a long bloody way.
Eyeshadow vs eyeliner is a personal choice but I think a dark brown eyeshadow used like liner tends to look less...lined and blend out better. Cheaper eyeshadows are sometimes actually better in this case because they tend to be sheerer and less pigmented, plus if you rub your eyes they'll come right off as opposed to looking like smudged makeup (as eyeliner has a tendency to do...)

In terms of going to Boots - you don't have to buy right away especially if the Superdrug next door has the same product for cheaper.

What country are you in?
UK and Eurofag: Bravura London salicylic acid peel, lactic acid peel and 15% glycolic acid cream. That combination has done wonders for me. However the Bravura glycolic acid peel seems to do a lot less for my skin. Ren also apparently has a good AHA exfoliant but that was like 30 quid for 30mL...
Asia-Pacific: seriously just choose a Korean brand?
USA: PC has higher percentage AHAs (their resist weekly resurfacing one was pretty good, but too fucking expensive for me in the UK - it may be worth it with 20% off) but cheaper options with the same or higher concentrations are available from places like acne.org and the alpha hydrox brand.

Anon, not everyone purchases Korean skin care because it's cute? Some of us have been in and out of dermas since we were thirteen and have had no luck with prescriptions, department store, or drugstore products. And, people are so quick to chastise others and throw up things about changing sheets, water, and eating a certain way when some of us have skin issues that aren't even caused by any of those.

There is no harm in recommending things to others, because it is ultimately their choice to purchase them and their responsibility to do research on the product. Skimming reviews for days are how some of us even came to find the courage to order some of these products. Skin care is trial and error. That is just a fact of life and people with sensitive skin are told time and again not to use heavily fragranced products. And, as mentioned, reviews and product descriptions will tell you whether something is fragrance free or not.

Also, everyone's skin is different. My skin qualifies as sensitive to the point where I have never been able to use foundation, yet I can use BB creams with ease. Fragrances don't irritate me, but they may for others who are sensitive.

You cannot shelter anyone, even newbies, from life. I'm not saying to just recommend shit willy nilly, but all of the pseudo-Reddit skin care passive aggression is retarded and it's why these threads go to shit every single time.

I politely disagree. assuming that I've been "slighted" is projection bias on your part. You've made the mistake of not understanding how objective the repliers' own postulations are. They've constructed their own counter-arguments.

Manuka honey anon, I've been reading reviews about it for a while so I decided to go out and buy some myself (cystic acne here). It's pretty great, so far it's stopped a good few cysts from forming, but my face also broke out after using it for a few days. But it's not a bad breakout, it feels more like I had little cysts and stuff under the surface that I could feel and would never come up, and the honey finally just helped it all come to a head and now that it's healing, my skin feels smooth and like there's no junk hiding under it anymore. I think this is what people call purging?

This is a thing, right?

>> No.8087674

>>8087527
Purging is apparently a thing, but I'm not really sure how to tell if you're actually purging or not. I remember someone telling me that if a product gives you pimples in places you've never gotten a breakout before then it's just a reaction. But that's kinda ...

And I've been using a sample of Benton's steam cream- it's got a really satisfying texture and finish! Sinks in, no sticky feeling, and dries quickly. I think I may buy a full size version. The sample container for the snail bee essence is so hard to use though oh my goodness. I could probably get the product out with a tooth pick or something but I always forget to go grab one.

Right now I'm just debating whether or not I want to buy a bunch of biore watery essences off of rakuten or buy a larger sunscreen that I haven't tried before.

and have any of you lot used avecko's shopping service? I saw snowwhite's post about it on her blog and am really impressed by the savings.

For me purging = little clogged pores where I usually get acne/recurrent zits come to a small head then go (so somewhere on my forehead or chin). Break out = unusual location (nose, upper lip) big painful spots or in an area where the skin was totally flat

Does anyone have any recommendations for facial shaving (actually shaving, prep, after care). My face has recently started getting their leathery look of wear where I shave and it's driving me crazy since I do take good care of my skin beyond shaving really often :(

Honey anon, here. Spots came up on my forehead and cheeks, problem areas for me that have been very painful for the last few months. I'm going through a bad bout of cystic acne and ever since all this junk came to a head my face has no longer been painful to the touch. It's healing up pretty quickly, and startled me because I suddenly just had a face full of zits for two days and now they're going away.

So I guess my skin was just purging? I'm on antibiotics too so I just figured shit was being killed by both ends. I just want clear skin.

Would anyone with dry skin be willing to share their routine? I've done so much research and I'm getting so frustrated with it. I don't have acne but my skin will react with angry under the skin pimples often (I guessing it's due to a new product that's not working) and my skin care just needs a total revamp. My skin is so dehydrated that I'm twenty with pretty decent under eye lines. It's never insanely flakey, just obviously partched an ichy, and lots of things have caused really weird breakouts (which dries my skin out even more while I'm trying to get rid of them.) Dry skin sucks.

layer your moisture anon, and do so twice or more a day!!!

product suggestions, some may work for you some may not. layer any from thinnest to thickest. toners first!
>Hada labo super hyaluronic lotion (helps bring moistur into your skin. not a pimple causer afaik. increases the effectiveness of other moisturizers)
>aloe vera is light and not a clogged, good for layering and nice to put in even in the middle of the day
>benton steam cream, a good medium weight cream that dries matte. nice to seal things in!
>bentons toners/essences will both work for you
>Nivea cream is cheap and can cause mega pimples, but very heavy and works on everything for me. Nivea in general is really nice for me.
>lanolin in general is good for mega moisture
> various American night creams work wonders. Nivea Aqua effect was a fave of mine for a while.
>too cool for schools pumpkin pack sounds good
>almost all Korean sleeping packs will help you out. mega moisturizing!
>hada labo moist emulsion sunscreen (the one skinandtonics likes) will really help you out!

in fact you may like to check out skinandtonics for more recs and reviews for dry skin. Kerry's really organized and sweet. A lot of Korean products though if that's a deal breaker.

I use the prescription "stevia-a" and you have to wait at least 20 minutes after you dry your face to apply it. Then I wait another 20 minutes to put a moisturizing cream on.

That stopped it from drying out my face but I still can't tell if it works over a year later. But I lost almost 50lbs during the same year so it makes it hard to tell.

This may sound a little silly, but I have very pale skin, as you can imagine, this highlights any imperfections on my body such as blotchy red patches, dry or wrinkled skin, etc. Sometimes I use a gradual fake tanner as it tends to smooth out and mask these imperfections as long as I keep reapplying a few times a week. I don't dislike my pale skin, I just dislike the imperfections highlighted, so it made me wonder if there was an alternative to cover these imperfections while still remaining of around my natural skintone with longlasting results? I've heard of body foundation, but it seems an effort to apply that every single day.

Surgery. They can be removed via lasers, electrolysis or something like that and surgically, though if you see a dermatologist a lot of them will tell you not to do it if it's just a matter of aesthetics which I think is bullshit, and many will say that it'll leave a bigger scar (it will, but you don't have to go down that road if it really is healthy and benign).
I say see a plastic surgeon and ask what they think you should do.

Would it be smart to slowly start building towards a full 10-step routine? I'm wanting to get into the korean skin care thing, but it's still such a jungle to me...

I'm trying to figure out what I should add first, especially since I'm only using a cleanser and moisturizer at the moment - I'm thinking maybe some masks? And some type of eye product to combat my dark circles.

I don't know what my skin type is, to be honest. I think it's dry and kind of acne prone and/or sensitive. I have whiteheads and acne on my chin right now, but I've been lazy and just covered that up whenever I've gone out instead of doing something about it...

I had skin that flaked around my nose and on my forehead always. If you use a moisturizer and sleeping pack. I HATE the Benton snail bee lotion because of the smell, but it does a good job moisturizing. That smell though, its horrible, like dirt and bugs. Its unsurprising because it's snail and bees, but if I break a sweat the smell comes back and I feel dirty. The tonymoly red appletox honey cream sample I got is great and I'll probably buy it next. Their panda dream sleeping pack is also wonderful and smells clean, I use it over the top of the Benton shit.

I also do a 40% lactic peel about once a week or so and my skin has been glowing with no flakes.

My total routine has been skin food black sugar cleansing oil and scrub foam, followed by Thayer's witch hazel and rosewater. Then I use Benton's snail bee essence and it's skin effectors in vita c, syn-ake, and Hottuniya cordata extract. I use panda's dream cooling eye stick, then that awful Benton lotion, and panda's dream sleeping pack.

Its been a really good help this week because I've been working out in the desert, stessed, and getting really dirty. I haven't had any big breakouts, I usually get those painful under skin pimples and have only had a small surface pimple on my cheek and and a clogged pore on my nose.

I have those and they don't really go away. I work hard to make sure my skin stays milky and smooth behind them. I have them all over my body. I had a large nevus (birthmark 1.7 cm) removed from my face with laser ablation as well as a Monroe from my upper lip, and it's a life changer for me. Its definitely not worth the trouble though for a lot of them because of pain and wound care. You have to slather it with aquaphor and keep it weeping. With my large birthmark has a bit of hyper pigmentation as the burn scar heals and looks less like melted skin.

What do you think about getting a vitamin, like Vitamin C, and crushing it down to use on your face?
I have a big ole pack of 200 or something and I take them orally. I noticed stuff like Vitamin C & E get added to skincare though. C is a powdery tablet, my vitamin e is an oil capsule. Any difference?

Try a toner first!
After cleansing you use one. It helps remove tiny makeup residue the cleanser missed, as well as just making your face feel fresh.

You could add a serum or essence after that, for before moisturizing. Masks I use maybe once or twice a week.

Aloe gel shouldn't be bitter I don't think. If you're using fresh aloe blades, whether it's in food or on your skin, you should hold it upside down over the sink for some time to drain off the sap/aloin, which is bitter, irritating and very laxative. It's mostly around the edge of the green part of the leaf, so peel before using, remove the veins and maybe rinse.

Only if you need it imo, masks aren't something you really add to a routine as they are more a special treat for your face maybe once or twice a week. You can introduce a toner or serum to help with moisturizer absorption and/or any skin benefit they may provide depending on which you choose.

After you wash your face, if you don't moisturize right away and let it sit for a bit, how does it feel? If it feels tight then you have dry skin, if it feels okay then you have normal skin. You can also have combo skin if different areas of your face react differently.
