Last one in auto sage, so Lolita General Thread.

In desperate need of advice on how to get weird marks off my dress. It's JetJ's cadre du chat. The mark was left by (what I think is) an alkaline powder. I'm hesitant to use water or cleaning products on it lest it react badly and stain the fabric.

taobao and/or y!a
you can get a full coord for about $150-$200 (even less if you go full taobao) depending on what you want.

>> No.8066677 [DELETED]

>>8066639
woo, that's a big question. First thing I'd say to do is to just research for awhile before buying anything. So many people get ripped off their first time buying stuff, or end up getting scammed. Not only that, you should figure out what looks best on you/what you like. You don't have to pigeon-hole yourself to one style (gothic/classic/sweet etc) but who knows you might only like one specific kind of style.

Look through the catalog to find threads on resale sites, coord tips, and hair tips. Remember, a coord is from toe to head, that includes tights, shoes and accessories.

>> No.8066680

>>8066639
Japanese auction sites. Older but still attractive sets are selling for around $80-100, and that's for a full set including OTKs and bow. IMHO for the quality, it's a better bargain right now than taobao. You've just gotta stalk the auction for good deals.

>> No.8066798

Where would be a good place to look for simple offbrand head bows?

>> No.8066974

Pick a dress you love, and then buy around it. It is easier to get accessories to match than to match old accessories to a new dress (sometime it's easy, sometimes it's hard)
Whenever i get a new dress i usually buy around it. if something you own already matches then it's a win-win.
sites like Taobao are a great idea. I personally like my-lolita-dress because they do custom sized blouses but they have a nice few bits and peices as well.
i'd also recommend closet child, their accessories are really good and cheap for what you are getting. If you are into sweet, they do a whole range of chocomint things and have super fast shipping.
If you are strapped with budget, there is always bodyline but i wouldn't recommend ever getting a petticoat from there from personal experience, they are quite underwhelming.
good luck anon! getting your first coord is always the most exciting part!

Buying around each new dress can be a little expensive if your dress has a specific scheme or rarer color.
I'd say first find our what colors you like and suit you, and then choose a dress.

>> No.8066995

>>8066982
Yes, but it's better than having one dress and a bunch of stuff that doesn't match it.

>>8066639
Lurk a lot. Don't buy anything yet. Decide what things you like, look at coord threads, brand releases, taobao releases, bodyline, etc. Decide whether there's a difference between what you like and what you'd wear (I found out the hard way that OTT sweet looks adorable - on other people. It makes me feel super uncomfortable even if I do get compliments)
When you have an idea of something you like, see if you can find items to make an outfit around the thing you like, but post for help in the coord thread or something before you buy stuff that looks awful together.

>>8066798
ebay, etsy, aliexpress. Someone posted a rainbow of headbows that were apparently super cheap.

How popular do you think the new Imai Kira x AP cat release will be?
I'm on the fence about buying it because although I love the print, I'm not the biggest fan of the dress design or colour. I'm worried that if I end up wanting to sell it once it arrives I'll lose money on it.

So I got my Angel of Music JSKs today and holy fucking shit. I did not realise that the sizes listed weren't max. I added 4cms onto my measurements (which I've read you should for a good fit) and ended up getting the XL but just by looking at it I can tell that i'm going to have to do the ties at the back all the way up (yay, comfy) and may even need to take it in if I keep losing weight.

I wanted to practice the fashion with some nice dresses, maybe take them in if I had to, but holy crap these are big. I can't imagine what the size up would look like.

Research research research. Like others have said secondhand brand is cheap while still being typically nice. I'd recommend using closetchild since they have a convenient cart system, you don't have to deal with the sometimes unreliable/flaky community, and it's not as intimidating/confusing as using an auction service. Before buying stuff like another anon said, know what you like.

Something that helps me hone in on my style is just having a lolita inspiration folder. Save a shit ton of pics and then look for trends, colors, motifs, etc. that you find you generally like. Good luck!

You can get custom widths from an*tai*na! The lady speaks english and you can order directly from them via email. Custom width can be done with a small fee. I suggest adding insoles/ gel pads later too.
That being said, I find lolita shoes to be very wide (though my feet are a little narrow) as is. I've heard they cater to more 'asian' feet (which are apparently wider/ shorter).
Read reviews, of course (for example, bodyline rhs are known to run narrow, so that's good for me).
A lot of normal mary janes (which can be found in wider sizes) are good for lolita too. Plus, you're more likely to find leather which is probably good for wide feet. A lot of online stores have specific searches for wide feet. You can add shoe clips for some extra decoration.

I ordered from Meta on the 9th, and my package still hasn't arrived. I got an email a couple of days after ordering saying that there would be a delay in shipping my order due to heavy snow, but then shortly after i got an email saying it was sent out. I have never had an EMS package take this long, and there hasn't been any updates on the tracking since the 15th, should i contact Meta?

Honestly like >>8068801 said, both of those dresses are common enough on the auctions. They really don't need to be released AGAIN.
On the other hand, if they re-release the Antigue Peacock colourway I think I would jiz my pants.

I voted for Rose Basket, Bisque Doll Bonnet and Saint Claire Headdress. Things I don't see up often, I also added in the notes I would be really interested if they were to release a short sleeve blouse.

I would have loved if they had listed some of their older pieces, like Valeria JSK and Rococo Fleur JSK. But a release of the Emmanuel Frill Jacket or a knitted cardigan would be a dream come true.

After seeing a podiatrist, I have too many issues with my feet for surgery. Flexible flat feet that completely collapse when I put weight on them, extreme bunions, major supination and generally horrible pain all the time. I wear splints at night and have to walk around on he balls of my feet. Have some really cute loli shoes but pretty much live in a pair of rubber docs with heel grips, orthotic insoles and toe pads. (Podiatrist told me to stick with them) I put the cute shoes on and no matter what combination of fitting advice and inserts I have to take them off a half hour later when my feet are bleeding and I'm getting a spasm going up my legs. Ordinary shoes all get completely destroyed (they split on the inside sole and wear massively on the outside) within weeks.

My foot issues definitely don't trouble me to the same degree as yours, I can wear normal shoes as long as I have my insoles. I just have the flexible flat feet/bunions, and over-pronate rather than supinate. I used to get stabbing pain in my bunion at rest which has now improved, but it still aches on mobilisation + I have pain from metatarsal offloading through my second and third toe, but my arches don't bother me unless I've been walking for ages.

How should I say this politely...

Some girls are too fat, too tall or too short (under 4 ft) for loli. Some girls are born completely deformed, with missing or extra limbs. Some have some health problems and therefore have issues with lolita clothing, like yourselves.

You don't really think we're now going to say doc martens are totally cute and loliable just because of you, do you? Fugly shoes are still fugly.

I sympathise with your problems, but you'd want to take it to the feels thread, where it's actually relevant. Dropping your sob story into lolita general, and some other anon's (presumeably with normal feet) shoe question is really out of line.

I'm willing to post OP of the original question though, that girl was stubborn for no good reason. She even posted hot pink doc martens and then said they perfectly match her coord that's coming in the mail, any lolita dress that bright must be an eye-searing monstrosity, or that girl is colour blind. Most Docs are now made in China, do not feature the same soles or materials of old Docs, and are actually pretty shit for your feet.
I say this as someone who's been wearing them for 15+ years. My old ones took a bit of time to break in, but after that they would conform to my feet and become very comfortable. However, all but one of my new pairs of boots (the overpriced "heritage" series still made the traditional way) no longer do this.
Docs quality has really plummeted in the last 5 years or so, and I would agree that they're much more fashion, as opposed to function, oriented now.

I don't expect everyone to say they fit within the lolita aesthetic. It's far easier to get away with in punk or sweet, especially if it is leaning in the decora/fairy kei direction. Plenty of modernity, plastic, pleather etc

Docs in floral patterns or tones that actually match the coord, I don't mind. Plain black isn't too offensive. I see what you mean with people insisting on wearing hot pink and crazy things.

I wear my clear boots for casual sweet and have a pair of black oxfords (almost dead) for everything else. I wouldn't dare post in the boots for CoF etc but I don't see much that is more offensive than 'lolita boots' besides not having bows and leather punched like lace on them.

Late to the party but here's my 2 cents.

Buy OP or JSK and petticoat first.
Then blouse (if jsk), shoes, legwear, accessories and optional wig that will form a cohesive co-ord.

Don't go on foreign sites like Japanese auctions and secondhand shops except for maybe Closet Child, don't go on Taobao.
If you have a budget one foreign site is ok, Bodyline is easy to order from but you need to be careful to pick something that isn't bad quality.
Try to find something locally, either new (like AP USA if you are in USA) or second hand like LM & LSE or country specific sales comm.
Taobao, Japanese auctions & second hand sites require a bit more attention and it's much easier to buy from English speaking people, and buy things without a middleman (like SS, Buyee, etc).
Leave that till later when you actually tried out the fashion and have more experience.

I don't think you saw anything. The point wasn't even the docs. The point was using that sob story as some kind of argument when other anons said docs don't go with lolita.

Just because you need those ugly shoes doesn't mean other people now have to sit back and say "oh yeah, anyone in doc martens might have half-eaten feet, so doc martens are totally loliable now". Yeah that's Alice Auaa for you. I'm often tempted by stuff of theirs that pops up on CC and I have to remind myself that it wouldn't go with anything I already own and that I'd never wear it. Funny how easy their pieces are to identify without even looking at the brand name, though. If it's totally crazypants, it's Alice Auaa.

So I'm curious about some info regarding Lolibrary

I just like Hello lace so much better because it's much more visual. You can go to a brand and select a clothing category and see all the thumbnails in a neat display, so if you are looking for a specific piece you have seen once somewhere but can't remember the name of stumbled upon it on auction and need mor info, it's much easier to find it.

Docs just don't look good in lolita.

I'm calling BS that you can't find other shoes. They make a literal shit ton of orthopedic shoes and shoes that can be ordered with inserts. My sister wears orthopedics due to cancer and she's emassed quite the collection. Sure, most orthopedics look a bit grannyish and you'll have to dig for ones that look cute and feel good, but a pair of brown granny brogues will match way better than an old scuffy worn in pair of docs.

Save your time defending yourself on here and talk to your podiatrist about their recommended shoe places. CGL won't know because young people with severe foot problems are few and far between. You'll need other shoes when you get older anyway because feet just get worse with age, so start finding the brands and styles you can count on now.

Who you really want to go to is a cobbler, preferably a really old dude who has years of experience and knows how to make custom shoes and fits all the diabetics, orthopaedic patients etc. Best way to find this is by word of mouth - ask your podiatrist is usually the best way to go. Online is the second best option but you will have to be aware of your own fit issues and look for stuff that suits - for me, it's bunions and adequate ankle support that are the issue so I look for shoes that are wide in the toe-box but can be narrowed around the heel and ankle, the rest I can manage with my inserts.

And newsflash: your supportive shoes don't fit the lolita aesthetic anyway.

It honestly depends on your issues though? There's a spectrum of orthotic shoes from 'shoes that are almost like splints' to 'dress shoes that are orthotic compatible' Like, if anon needs ankle support with boots or isn't allowed to wear any heels then there's no point me posting the Dr Comfort mary-janes or the Ziera boots which are designed to have orthotics in them, plus orthotic shoes are best fitted in person by your podiatrist or a really good cobbler who's aware of your foot needs.

Are Classical Puppets petticoats "the best"?

>> No.8071571

>>8071560
I have two of them (the less fluffy a-line and the super fluffy cupcake), and I really like them. My first petticoat was the VGD, and I honestly hated it. It tended to bunch up because it would shift around the waist band, it's shape was workable but not the best, and it did deflate over time.
Despite having my CP petticoat crammed in a drawer for like 4 months, when I tried it on the other day it gave my AP dress crazy amounts of poof.

>> No.8071579

>>8071560
No, they aren't 'the best', but they are good medium-large poof (depending on the petticoat and how heavy your dress is) for the price. Amethystcitrine died (In 2013; car crash), but she was one of the creators of Lolibrary, not hello lace. For hello lace I think what happened is that they couldnt update it anymore without a programmer, there is a post in 2012 about this, and I suppose she just abandoned it. There were talks of combining the sites but it wasnt really realistic.

For lolibrary, there seems to be a group that have created and update it, so Idk if there is a single person who you can pin it on. Soniabunny maybe? She does some of the starting posts there. It looks to be something that started in 2010, and I believe it is a western invention. If there was a japanese database it would be far easier to update it, as their biggest issue is that older releases are hard to find pictures of.

Docs are still not as good as shoes that are meant to support you though. There are companies who pay attention to things like padding and comfort for the needs of working women - often women who fall in between the categories of people who don't need support and people who need lots of support.

You honestly sound like someone who doesn't do her research. For arch support, I have a pair of mary janes that I swear by, and that has given me much more support than any other shoe I had. Additionally, I noticed that I don't have as much bunion progression as with other shoes, which is a huge bonus. Do your research and you should find workable shoes - it's a big enough market for work shoes to be ortho-friendly, which suits well for at least muted classic if not other styles.

I need some advice on phrasing a sales post.
If I try on a dress for about an hour or less and take photos, should I still say 'only tried on' or should I explain I tried it on for an hour and took photos wearing it in my room?
It just seems so clunky to include that, but I don't want anyone to accuse me of being dishonest.

At what point does 'tried on' become 'worn'?

>> No.8072296

>>8072291
Whenever someone says they "tried on" I take it as they wore it in their room and ended up not liking the color/fit/whatever. It's a common thing, you don't have to explain it.

For sizing, probably the best thing for you to do is look at similar stuff on Amavel's webshop with the help of your good friend google translate. But like most otome brands, they're designed for one size of small japanese girl.

I seriously hope that seashell print dress won't be scalped this much. It's the only print in the Spring collection that I like.

Angle of Music *just* shipped. They won't be listed on Haenuli's website until she deals with any damaged/returns from everyone. There is no way to get it before this time. It will likely take another month before her extra stock is up for sale.

In fact I got my Angel HWS yesterday and it has a backwards lace piece. Super bummed, but I have let her know.

And Haenuli's main pieces are almost always bigger then listed. I get one size smaller every time and they fit. Hell I have a small in Whipped Cream Kitty Kitty that goes up to a 110cm waist (crazy huge!)

Enchanted Fawn gets at least $300 for her plus size one. Otherwise they go for around $250. It's a hard print to find.

Not an expert, I just have 6 prints from Haenuli.

Boo

Now I just need to decide if I want to settle for their Juliet print

Just curious, what are you measurements? I was gonna go with the size L, but I have a huge bust (112cm) and linebacker shoulders. My waist is 86.5cm, though. So... does this mean I have to choose between either boobloaf or having the dress be too big in the waist?

She just needs to give her a really realistic pricing for the labor. Also I can't imagine what kind of fabric they would send. I imagine something way too flimsy or shiny or weeby

I'm just wondering what I did wrong in this situation here because I'm a bit emotionally blind but:
>Friend who is a newer loli is trying to buy luna in the sea and find the tights
>Today I find and link her the Full dress set at a great discounted price
>ends up telling me she already bought it for $250
>mfw lolibrary has the dress listed at $141 (w/ ems its 160)
>tell her she could at least get the tights to complete the set for a great price
>she tells me to just stop and abruptly ends the convo

I know I shouldn't have kept going, but it feels like she got really offended.
sorry for the /blog/ post.

She's probably just pissed off and embarrassed that she paid so much more for the dress, and maybe thinks you were trying to rub it in? Seems like she overreacted to me, though.
