If it's possible to get your horns off your headband, I would try to cut the ends off to make them sit flush against your head. They look kind of rounded now. Also, if you can space them farther apart when you put them back on the headband they'll probably look better.

But to judge/critique your horns, they're very close together and the hooked part (like the other anon said) is far too curvy/fat. Also the horns themselves is a bit big, more fitting of Porrim. Though it could be skewed because they are practically sitting on the very top of your head.

Is there a particular reason you want to use goggles? Depending on what you're after, you might be able to make some eyewear that gives you the feel of what you want without being actual goggles.

Thank you for those examples, when ever i see someone use goggles its usually like the first link. But i want to use them because i was to try and be as canon as possible.

What i think i might try and do is try and use goggles frames and put them on glasses arms, while removing the rubber, so that they don't suck up my eyes. Though i'm just throwing around idea's.

Still not quite sure what you want out of your goggles, but you can probably get some cheap sunglasses at a thrift store and use them for glasses parts. I've also cut up safety glasses like this for eyewear before. They're a couple of bucks at my local hardware chain.

The thing that really bugs me about most Fef goggles is that they're very small and not very flattering on people's faces most of the time. A lot of HS cosplays suffer from ugly frames, it seems. It makes me wonder how much thought people really put into it.

I keep getting tempted by these for either Meenah or Feferi, but they're sort of too expensive for me to justify painting over. I sort of want them for normal glasses for myself?

I honestly don't even blame her. I have a friend who had very mild BNF status in this fandom before and even so, her stress levels were skyrocketed straight through the roof. Think of people like Saccharinesylph and Snowchildhero who don't even want to be put on the BNF list at all because of the attention it garners. Some people thrive under the spotlight but other people would rather not have it at all.

IMO Homestuck cosplay is the way all cosplay used to be five years ago: more of a close-knit community, lots of craftsmanship love, and an unhealthy obsession with the BNFs. Different anon, but I agree. Alright, critiques that don't slutshame her: She's actually got a rockin bod and I am okay with all of that. Other than the typical "curl going the wrong direction" problem, her hair looks very neat, and she has the curl on the other side, too. I would want a bit more pink and black involved. White always says "underwear" or "Diaper" to me, and it'd be a neat callback to her leggings. The boots make absolutely zero sense to me, why fur. They look tacked on. If I were designing it, I would've used a platform sneaker. Enough to get the 'big cartoon feet' look, but not a straight up stripper boot. Same thing with the socks. I would've rather had there be another color for contrast, not as much white.

Raver usually means some form of kandi to me, even though that's kind of old school at this point, but some form of accessories/jingle-jangles would be a good addition. On the whole it feels like it's missing mostly details and opportunities to hammer home her character. Headpieces/glowing items. I once saw a Feferi with a glow trident. They're corny, but I think a pair of glowing cat ears would suit Roxy, so long as the pink was the right shade.

So, slutshaming aside, it just feels like a lazy costume in that she could've accessorized a lot and had it look more planned and put together. But that probably wasn't her goal here, so, there it is, she probably had a lot of fun.

Groups that match, no matter how shitty, are always a little impressive to me, just because I've experienced my own trouble with having those one or two people in a group who fuck everything up, or half of the original group bailing out last minute. I think your best bet would be to rip open one of the seams of the suit so that you can separate the front and back halves, then sew it back together when you're done. If it's the usual type of zentai suit, construction, I think that'd mean taking out a side seam and the crotch/leg seam.

Anyway, general things for them, don't over style your wig, try and think about how their hair would be irl, going for their cartoony hairstyle 100% usually comes out looking very odd.

Find some good glasses, don't use huge hipster glasses or those shitty 3D glasses that you can get from the cinema.

Also make-up, do a "no make-up" type make-up. If you're good with make-up then you'll be fine, if not i would love to help you out further there.

Funny thing is, I'm thinking about not using a wig. I've got a natural 'Jew-fro' of very dark brown hair. All I really need to do is have it dyed properly and styled. Neither of those are a huge problem for me because a friend of mine is very experienced with hair styling. She also does soooo much Homestuck cosplay so I've pretty much got her for the hair. I normally wear glasses so that's not a problem either.

Not the same anon, but seconding the please wear a wig comment. Even if you have 100% perfect hair for a character, you'd still have to waste valuable time at a convention styling it. With wigs you can spend that time styling your hair prior to the con, slap on the wig on the morning you want to wear your costume, and enjoy your convention weekend more.

As for no-makeup makeup, the goal is to hide blemishes, even out your skin tone, and mattify shiny/oily areas so you won't look like you have an oil slick on your face if someone takes a flash picture of you. Some basic foundation (creme or liquid for medium coverage, powder for light), concealer (if you have any noticeable blemishes), and little bit of powder (to set liquid/creme foundation and reduce shine) should put you light years ahead of most dudes. For bonus points, get a makeup primer to put on before your makeup and it will go on smoother and last longer. Lanacaine anti-chafe gel is a great dupe for much more expensive primers.

I'm sorry if i came off as a little rude, but there's so many people out there who insist on not wearing wigs. What they don't realize is, as the day goes on your hair loses it's style and becomes dirty, especially at conventions.

Also i should note that i'm not a make-up or skin care professional (so if anyone see's something that i have wrong please correct me!)

Another note, make-up will make you appear much better in photos.

So make-up , try and figure out what kind of skin you have (ex. oily, dry, combination) this should be pretty straight forward. Next is finding a shade of foundation that matches your skin tone, this might be a little tricky because you should know what under tone you have, cool, warm, olive, pic related.

For someone who doesn't really wear make-up i recommend a BB cream (BB stands for beauty balm i believe) for your foundation, it's usually lighter feeling than a normal foundation. Next for any dark areas or redness is concealer, find one that is your skin tone or *teeny* bit lighter, if you can't find one that matches then just don't get one that's darker than your skin, that won't end well.

For setting your make-up (with powder) i really like Airspun loose powder, but with whatever you choose, when you apply it, apply with dabbing motions, and once you've gotten all the areas you want swipe away the excess, this will help you look more natural, and just better imho.

Part 2

When you're finished with your base you may notice your face may look a little bland and flat, which is where contouring comes in. A lot of cosplayers go *crazy* with contouring, or they just skip it completely. But basically, find a colour that is about a shade or so darker than your skin tone and find where the shadows hit your face/ where you would want to define. Many people like to define their cheek bones, jawline and nose, but it's up to you, just remember these are teenage boys.

Also i recommend getting a matte/non shiny natural eye shadow pallet, you can use the eyeshadow for contouring, highlighting and if needed fill in your eyebrows a bit. Also i have a rule with my eyebrows, if i'm wearing a dark wig, then i'll fill in my eyebrows a bit lighter (but in the same general colour range) and vice versa for very light coloured wigs.

For mascara i would recommend a brown/ dark brown. And i say this because your eyes may need a bit of definition, which brown mascara will help with, without making you look super girly. With eyeliner you can also use a brown/ dark brown, and to freshen up your waterline a nude colour is good (i reccomend NYX's wonder pencil)

Part 3 fuuuuuck

So at this point you may be wondering how to apply this, but before you do any make-up applying you need to know what comes before. Start off with a clean face, if you love everything you hold dear, and don't want to fuck up your face then you must wash, cleanse or whatever you do to make it clean before slapping on make-up.

Okay now onto application, there are many way to do it with foundation and concealer, you can apply it with a foundation brush (i like Eco Tools, they're cheap, have some good stuff, and label their brushes so you can easily look up what their use is), some people use cosmetic sponges, pic related, they come in different shapes as well (personally i use the cheap ones, but there are like 20$ ones out there) and others use their fingers, you go this route make sure you wash your hands after each product you use.

With applying powder i think i talked about it above, but with contouring (which i use an eyeshadow for this, some people use bronzer or a cream colour) i use my powder brush, mostly because with whatever setting powder is left on the brush it will mix with the contour colour, making it easier to blend into my skin. After you have your contour on, blend/buff it out with a clean(ed off powder brush in my situation) brush so there won't be a definite beginning and end to the "shadow"

Heavy or not, just wear cosplays that are flattering for you. A gross cosplay is a gross cosplay- just when you're a bigger person, its a lot easier to look bad. Last time I used wood glue it was a pain in the ass to sand and basically wouldnt so I totally just scrapped the horns. Thanks for your input though, Ill try again, maybe watering it down a bit so its not as strong.

Not the same anon, but wood glue is much easier to use when your base material is already sanded down smoothly, if that phrasing makes sense. If you carve your base horn out of something like insulation foam, for instance, sand the hell out of that, and apply 3-4 even coats of wood glue, you barely need to sand the wood glue coating. Watering the glue down will help with making even layers.

I have to agree with you that wood glue is a pain to sand, though. Tried to use a power sander and learned the hard way that dried wood glue is a thermoplastic.

How would you guys think if you saw well constructed ancestor cosplays of these? A couple of friends and I have been looking at these and really enjoying the designs, but they're not canon. Would people dislike them if they were well made because of that? Would we have to make sure we do it extremely well?

They don't strike me as any more offensive than the glut of fancy redesigns that were popular a few years ago. I think it'd be pretty neat if they were well done.

Most of these are ass ugly and make no sense as game roles. The ones that aren't ugly could just be adapted into fancy versions of their usual outfit.
