Depending on how much of a dick he is, I'm tempted to cosplay Yuri (I love asshole characters and his uniform is nice) but that will be a hard wig to make look right.

I'm doing Yuzu this year and I'm planning on Yugi for 2016 (in time for the movie). I've wanted to cosplay yugi for a long time but I am so intimidated by his wig. I'm gonna make it happen next year for sure though.

Has anyone ever made their own duel disk? I'm starting to notice that the coveted battle city ones aren't entirely accurate, and I'm considering making my own instead of shelling out a large amount of money on one.

I'd love to cosplay Jim or Gagaga Cowboy one day, but the wig and Karen/Shirley will be hell to make... I wouldn't want to cosplay Jim without a prop so it would either be his crocodile or the duel disk. Wish he used the standard disk in GX.

By the way do you guys think cosplaying Yusei with fingerless gloves would be weird? They're so much easier to make and not to mention I would be able to use my phone with them.

If I were you I would probably make both. Wear the fingerless ones around the con for convenience, but wear regular ones for photoshoots or something. They shouldn't be too bad if you use a stretchy material. I'd say you might be able to find some but I guess you need them to match the boots/covers.

Depends largely on the character. As a rule, I prefer DM characters to have more natural hair, same with GX and 5D's (with exceptions for characters like Manjoume, Yusei, Jack, etc), Zexal characters mostly have more structured hair so unless you're cosplaying someone like III or Mizael, it makes sense to go all out.
Arc-V is very much like Zexal but I must say, I do prefer Sora cosplays to be done with wigs that aren't 90% hairspray and have lightly styled pony tails.

Most duel disks are hard to make like the Zexal version anon. And it looks 'incomplete' if you're a character that always has one. (Not everyone knows about /cgl/ or wants to go on /cgl/ and cosom isn't that helpful.) But now with the DIY disk in this thread anything is possible.

Even if they do complain, don't listen to them. If someone is genuinely concerned about the persecution of non-"whites", they're not going to waste time sending personal attacks to someone over something as insignificant as cosplay.

Just don't use body paint or orange spray tans because they'll look awful. When someone has a UV tan, calling them out a racist is kind of dumb because for all anyone knows they could have just tanned because they wanted to, not because they wanted "cosplay accuracy".

Also Egyptians both past and present are more Caucasoid than Negroid, so anyone that complains you're not "black" enough is an enormous idiot.

seconding this. I don't mind when girls crossplay Malik, but the exposed midriff makes it really obvious that they're girls. I feel like if they did a different outfit they'd look better, even if the purple bellyshirt is more "iconic". Plus all of them are orange from spray tans and it looks bad.

What's everyone's opinion on using heavy eyeliner/mascara when crossplaying any of the male characters? It seems like everyone posted in this thread does it. At first I thought it was kind of girly but it makes sense considering how stylized the eyes are.

Yugioh's one of the few series I explicitly follow the art with eye make-up wise. Not ott levels but small character specific flicks and thickness.

90% of the time, I hate it. I know the eyes, and the entire show, is pretty stylized, but yugioh is one of the really obvious examples of "realistic" vs "screen accurate" when it comes to cosplay choices. Eyeliner's ok if you want to look like you stepped right out of the screen, but if you're going for the 'what the character would look like in reality' route, it's not really appropriate (the exception being kohl makeup for memory arc characters, I guess...) Many cosplayers I've seen try to find a happy medium between the two, so the eyeliner just sort of... sabotages the effect of the crossplaying and doesn't do much to add to the ensemble?

For the Ishtars, ancient Egyptian characters, present Atem/Yami Yugi and maaaaaybe Yami Bakura you should do it. That style is a nod to the eyeliner worn by ancient Egyptians. For everyone else, I guess you could tight-line and use a little mascara if your lashes aren't very obvious but don't go all out and make it incredibly apparent.
