So I'm back!

I had a person point out to me that the coat I am SUPPOSEDLY looking for is a justaucorps. That, however, means I've run into a few problems.
>Lapels
JPB clearly has lapels on his coat. However, justaucorps don't have those.
>Buttonholes
If this coat was a justaucorps that would make sense in terms of what those were, however, justaucorps use those to keep the lengthened lapels in place, something JPB's coat doesn't have.

I already have a jacket pattern I was looking to modify, but with this new relevation I'm not entirely sure how to go about with that. Should I JUST do the cuffs or go further to imitate a justaucorps seeing as that is probably the inspiration?

Not so much 'help' as an "is this okay?" kind of thing:

I'm cosplaying Simon in March, and for the goggles I'm making the frame out of foam, lenses out of yellow night driving lenses and the strap out of red leather cord. Would that look any good, or would it be total shit? I'm on a pretty tight budget at the moment so I can't really afford to make them out of anything too fancy.

What kind of underwear should I wear with a high cut swimsuit + capezio body stocking?

I can't find any thongs that are cut high enough and also "invisible" or seamless, and the wire part in a c-string would definitely show awkwardly in the front. I'd hate to go commando since I just got the body stocking for Christmas and don't wanna get it gross...but I'll do it if necessary.

That is a pink sleeveless jacket worn over a red poloneck sweater. Don't start with a red hoodie, it won't work. Start with something like this http://www.ebay.com/itm/ABERCROMBIE-FITCH-Red-Turtleneck-Long-Sleeve-Ribbed-Sweater-Sz-S-/191480547947?pt=US_CSA_WC_Sweaters&hash=item2c95214a6b and get something like this http://www.ebay.com/itm/Hollister-Pink-100-Polyester-Puffer-Vest-with-Removable-Hood-Medium-M-/201261619569?pt=US_CSA_WC_Vests&hash=item2edc209971 and add the collar thing, sew on black fabric at the bottom, and add the ears.

Actually I just realised my advice is useless to you probably since I misunderstood your question but I'm gonna post it anyway. I don't even know what i'm asking, just looking for some opinions

I'm going to anime north next year and i'll be crossplaying. I came across an obscure series of games recently (Mogeko/Deep Sea Prisoner) and fell in love instantly.

I want to cosplay Yosafire (The green haired one) and i'm wondering if i'm going to be mistook for a "Homestuck" character. I don't know what the fuck homestuck is, but I have my sweetheart Yosafire on my phone wallpaper and someone asked if she was from homestuck and i'm like ugh wtf. I know it's some weird tumblr thing and I don't want to be mistook for that.

Corset experts: I've drafted a corset that just won't sit right, the back fits perfectly, but the front busk tilts out once it hits my abdomen. I've been wanting to cosplay for 5 years, but due to a number of reasons and a bad experience with a costume commission, I've postponed it indefinitely.
Anyways, I'm a sucker for detailed designs, shiny things, Indian fashion, the color yellow, and luscious hair, so the moment I saw this design by Sakizo I knew I had to do it.
I know more or less how to draft the patterns, but I'm not sure of the overall shape of the "skirt" thing. Also I know it can't possibly be sheer, because there's two different patterns going on on the inside and outside, but any help figuring out the motifs would be really appreciated.
The second problem is the wig. I was planning on getting a golden brown wig, but I don't think I've ever seen a kanekalon wig in that color, and I think I'm gonna need lots of wefts to get that volume. Any tips on that?
Lastly, I know this isn't actually a cosplay issue, but would tumblr give me shit if I get tan this summer so that the yellow and gold don't look like shit on me? I'm Spanish/Italian, and I'm pale with yellow undertones, but get tanned to a crispy brown if left long enough in the sun. After the shit that happened with Koujackie (yeah, I'm into DMMd) I'm kinda afraid of getting insane ammounts of hate for cosplaying something like this bc of "cultural appropriation" or whatever these delusional people call it.

Yeah it's a justaucorps. Some don't have/have lapels and collars depending on which century or the use (regular or evening wear). They should have buttons, even though they were often decorative as the justaucorps was not often buttoned up. Which pattern are you using? I would try and do something closer to his; there are lots of similar patterns out there. To make it easier and save money, you could avoid putting in the fullness at the back but it would give you less flare.

Here's a good reference gallery. Some of the buttons are missing as they were probably stolen or reused if they were made of valuable materials.

Genderbending Terra from Teen Titans. Instead of a full utility belt, I've decided to go with this hip pouch. I think it'll work well visually. However, I'm going with a chocolate color scheme for gloves, boots, and belt, so I need to color this. Problem is it's almost certainly synthetic. Can you dye this stuff? If not, how can I color it?

Second genderbent Terra post: I've been thinking about not doing terra's skintight pants, in an effort to make the costume slightly more masculine. However, I have fairly large quadriceps from powerlifting, and any pair of shorts that can fit them usually looks ridiculous. However, an exception in the past has been Hollister sweatshorts. They have a nice straight leg on them, since I'm pretty sure they just snip defective long sweatpants into shorts.

Do you think if I got a pair of these, and removed the logo, that it would work well with the aesthetic? I think combined with the hip pouch and an underarmour shirt it'd fit Terra's "easygoing rock-climber turned superhero" theme nicely.

Tldr how bout these pants

Planning on doing Mercy. I can't figure out what method I'll use in doing the wings. I think I'd prefer them to be open, with clear/Yellow plastic sheeting with LEDS at the top. Not 100% on how I'd go about that though. I've been trying to look up light-up visor tutorials that have that same sort of rig but I'm still not sure. Besides, it's not like I'm tanning to look a diferent race, I just want the colors to suit my skin, and yellow is a big no-no if you have pale skin (and it looks like that bc I haven't tanned in like a decade). I thinking about getting the thousands of polymorph pelets I have and trying to make a ball of it, but I'm not sure if it would be good enough since it could have dents. I can easily see where the pattern has to be altered this way, and I don't have to waste money by messing up the 'real' fabric.

I've used this particular item (http://www.ebay.com/itm/SHOWGIRL-HEADDRESS-SKULL-CAP-FRAME-BASE-SKULLCAP-SHOW-GIRL-CARNIVAL-DRAG-QUEEN-/291322884235)) as a headdress base, it fits alright. For the wolf heads, styrofoam wig heads for the main sphere shape of each + plastidipped and painted craft foam for the metal parts + maybe Crayola model magic or paper clay for the teeth? Spray-on foam insulation will work well as an adhesive to hold the foam heads to the skullcap, it's like a fluffier Gorilla Glue and you can carve it down afterwards. I think making the teeth realistic, like ivory-colored with lots of gloss, would really enhance the look of the costume.

I am also doing this version of Astrid. Right now I have 2yd fur for the boots, skirt, arms, and cape, although I haven't started cutting anything out yet so not sure if the amount actually used will be less.

The hood has a very wide opening and the fur is a very long pile, so it looks like an open collar at times. I too am having a hard time finding a fur for this that won't break my wallet.

Question regarding Lucina's cape:
I've never made a cape before, so... Last night I sewed the inner and outer pieces together then turned inside-out, except now it's like I have a giant pillow case. How do I get the fabrics to stick together so they are flat? Glue? Top stitch the edges? I'd preferably like a method that allows me to wash this.

It appeared on equipment designed by Otacon, including Snake's OctoCamo suit, together with the words "to let the world be."

You can use a bottomweight sateen for the basis of the white dress and black skirt. The skirt isn't even pleated, officially speaking.

You'll want to use non-fabrics/boning/various notions for the detail work on Chaika's dress, like the "wire" and button-like parts. They will help make the outfit look distinct instead of blending into a blob of white and black like a failed goth-loli wannabe.

I'm nearsighted, and I'd like to cosplay this version of Ichiro Irabu. A lot of the cosplays I've seen of him seem to have people just wearing the frames of his glasses however, and, other than me actually needing lenses, as far as I can remember he actually has lenses in the show (or at least there was no indication he didn't), I'd like it to be accurate.
What is the best place to buy prescription frames[?] like he's wearing from that'll look good with the cosplay? Despite wearing glasses I've never really had experience buying special frames to wear and getting lenses put in because with my insurance I just get my exam yearly for new lenses and get to pick out from a small [but good] selection of frames for either $0 or $10.

(In all honesty, this would be my first real cosplay, but thanks to this board and cringey cosplays I've seen, I at least have the basic knowledge on how to not make my costume look like shit; but, it might not happen for a while so I'd like to start out small with asking what would be the best thing to do about the glasses, I'd like to be able to see where I'm going. Depending on what lenses you need, shit can be super cheap. I bought some a while back and with shipping it was like $12.00. You'll just need to go to their site and input your prescription when ordering.

Inspiring Yuya cosplayer here. Does anyone know how they got the jacket to stay up like this? Styled the wig in this picture? Also how would I do his goggles with the star on them?

Sorry if I'm asking a bunch of questions.

I'm going to go with her meaning "lower edge of sleeve" should fit those measurements. My reasoning is that she said armscye should fit to the bodice, and with the shape of those sleeves the actual length that goes around at your arm socket is divided between what is labeled armscye and what is labeled shoulder. Underarm seam is not going widthwise, it's going lengthwise, so it's not in the running. Lower edge of sleeve is both gathered and actually going around your arm, so it makes the most sense. I can see why you were confused though, I can appreciate the effort that was put into the tutorial but it wasn't written very clearly.

I used a different tutorial, but more or less, yeah. I'm pretty sure it failed just because it was my first time trying it and I just fucked it up.

The tutorial I used was this one: http://entropyhouse.com/penwiper/costumes/helmsdeep.html
It doesn't specifically talk about pauldrons, though.

Basically... wire.

> coat
Wire inserted into the golden hem strips things (I'm drawing a blank at the actual term for it)

The edges are just spiked with gel, but the ahoge is probably reinforced with wire. Look up wig spiking tutorials and that one Hetalia ahoge tutorial.

Yeah, you could do that if you wanted. You could also stick on, in the sense of glue on, other material than paper though. I'm not familiar with the character so I don't know if the star has any depth or not. If it's just flat, I would just paint it with the help of a stencil or something.

Make sure you clean them after every use and the contact is facing like U towards your eyeball instead of a curled out V which means its inside out. only wear them for 4 hours then take a break before wearing them again. Eyedrops are useful since they can get dry.

I thought about doing the same thing with my SamuFlam cosplay too with the first helmet but I wasn't sure if it was a good idea or not, which is why I'm asking if it's possible with extra room or it will end up as a hot mess. I seen people do it with cosplays before and turn out ok.

I'm about to start patterning out a simple dress that I designed and I usually like to add interfacing to the neckline and sleeves to reinforce those areas, but I'm planning on lining this dress and was wondering if it would still be necessary/preferable? I'm concerned the extra facing would add bulk/make it too stiff in this case. Opinions? It's just a simple a-line jsk with an empire waist.

Mikado is still in the realm of wig worthy. I think it does look a little odd on round faces, but nothing is stopping you from making flattering alterations. People would still recognize you as Mikado as long as the rest of the costume is on point.

Did you make the forward folds of knife pleats less than 1/2 of the width of the previous folds? Or are you referring to how much they open up toward the bottom?

>> No.8066714

>>8066696
There are artists that draw more rounded face, although it's more common in manga than anime (I've haven't seen many round faces in anime). There's not much you can do with your face structure, apart from plastic surgery, but letting hair frame your face and contouring with makeup can help create the illusion of a slimmer face.

Also, for short hair, wear a wig cap. Not the netting type, the ones that are like tights. That and hairpins should help keep your hair confined, even if it's short.

It's a pleated skirt, it will open at the bottom due to drape over your hips. If you want permanent pleats, you can stitch the pleats in, but chances are it will turn the skirt into a tube and you won't be able to pull it up and over your butt. Remember to iron every pleat before each wear to retain them.

Is this your first pleated skirt? Judging from the photo, the pleats are different in width. Did you try to hand-draft a pattern and mess up on measurements?

>> No.8067184

>>8067062
It is my first skirt. However, I assure you the pleats aren't actually different widths, it's just an illusion caused by all the pleats opening up (why i wanted to avoid that). The hip drape thing makes sense though, I guess it can't be fixed.

The top of the pleats is where it looked like different widths to me.

What you can do next time for pleats that flare out less is to try making the skirt body from a (smaller) arc or having the waistband sit lower on your hips. Right now it looks like the skirt is too small for you, since it's digging into your waist and there is bulging already right under the waistband.
