i'd like to see some gothic lolita coords that arent just all black, or have no black at all. ones that are still very gothic looking/based but arent just outright kuro or black with a few coloured accents. i need some inspo!

Probably the fact that it's from Moite.

Which then begs to ask, is it the brand focus that stops something like >>8054950 being gothic? Is it the neckbow, or the dress cut? The print in itself isn't sweet, and can be perfectly Gothic.

I'm not claiming the Moitie dress, or the AP one are gothic or not, I'm enquiring.

So if something is in a babydoll cut, does that automatically make it sweet? The print looks very gothic to me, and seems to excuse the cut of the dress. Perhaps if she had a different headpiece and shoes, would that make it more gothic?

I disagree. If you remove the print entirely from the dress, cut and the oversized bow on the collar still lend themselves much more to sweet, and while the print has a gothic motif the way that it's rendered with the little sparkle bits and the stars makes it a great deal more cutesy that what you'd usually see in gothic.

If anything it would be gothic-influenced sweet.

I don't think you can really isolate anything much from this outfit that isn't sweet. If anything, only the black and white theme, the crosses and the photo background/props are giving me a gothic vibe. Everything else about it -- babydoll cut, the shorter length, the sparkly print, the large-sized neck bow, the bling on the large-sized neckbow, extra ruffles on the large-sized neckbow, the wig styling, the makeup, the giant hairbow, extra layers on the "tail"of the giant headbow, the shoes, the bows on the shoes, the lace at the hem, the extra large cuffs, the lace on the extra large cuffs, the posing, the smile -- it all adds up to a sweet lolita look.

Like if you had an outfit that only had a few of those items you could argue that Moitie also has sparkly dresses or Millefleur has a lot of tulle lace or something, but here in this outfit, every little thing is here, and every little thing points to sweet.

I can't argue with everyone. It is sweet lolita.

However, I agree with you, even if it is sweet lolita, the motifs certainly fit with gothic fashion outside of lolita.

Harlequin Checkers and crosses tend to be popular among the goth kids. I think you'd blend in fine in that.

You need to read more carefully. What I said was ALL of the features I mentioned point to sweet, so it's very difficult to say that Holy Lantern outfit is anything but sweet.

You cannot single out one feature, slap it onto a gothic dress and then call the gothic dress sweet.

It's not a matter of ONE headbow or ONE extra layer of ruffles. It's the headbow AND the ruffles AND the neckbow AND the shoe bows AND the cuff lace AND everything else.

This is sweet, but its more about the feel of the outfit. Im not going to be an ass like >>8055164, im going to explain, unlike this rude little cunt.

1. The make up and baby face the look is trying to give off. Yes, dark colors are used, but long princessy lashes and pinky blush for a more youthful look will always make an outfit lean a little towards sweet.

2. The big wired headbow! A gothic coord might use a bonnet instead. This headbow gives off a feeling like she is a cute doll.

3. Hair - although this wig style can be pulled off in gothic, its very far from the epitome of goth. Curled-in hime cuts are very popular with youthful looks right now, and the general shape of the wig has been popular with sweet for a few years. Imagine this wig is blond-- now suddenly, you can imagine it with any typical sweet coord. Yes its dark and gray.. But its the feeling that will tell an experienced lolita its more familiar with sweet.

Tights and shoes- i typed a lot and i don't really feel like expanding on this anymore, but tldr this combo is very common in circus themed sweet coords.

Most of these points made are little "feelings" of sweet. A logical, rule-based argument can be made for why this coord is gothic.but in the end, i think this coord is gothic-inspired sweet.
