Casual lolita honestly isn't that hard... just take away most of the accessories, keep a simple hairstyle (but still some kind of style) and nothing too loud in terms of print and poof.

When are people going to give up on casual lolita being a thing? It doesn't exist. Every single "casual lolita" coord is either non-OTT lolita, otome, or just straight up ita. Casual lolita doesn't exist and I don't think it ever has.

I've always gotten the impression that it isn't "Casual Lolita™" but rather lolita done casually. Something simple and wearable. It's not like anyone's saying these specific coords are only Casual Lolita and not sweet, sailor, classic, gothic.

Most of JetJ's painting dresses have classical paintings on them, which fits in with the general aesthetics of classical lolita. Most of them fit a petticoat, which fits with the rules. Most of them can be dressed up but also dressed down because JetJ themselves have said that they want to make lolita dresses that older women can wear, so by putting as few embellishments on the dress themselves you're free to chose whether to dress up or down.

More importantly, while there are, and always will be, things that look like lolita, "vintage" doesn't strictly refer to a specific dress pattern, and "lolita" doesn't just refer to a lot of ruffles. "Vintage" usually means that a dress is secondhand, may or may not have a flared skirt that may or may not require a petticoat, with an outdated style. On the other hand, lolita brands started out with old school lolita and then gradually changes shapes and patterns according to what lolitas of the moment like. At some point the style became so diverse that classic, goth and sweet were able to split off entirely with their own aesthetics, so lolita style has never been a stagnant thing that was nailed down. As of this moment, it would seem that classical lolitas like their JetJ with classical-themed prints and little embellishment, so yes, this is what passes as lolita now.

Just because this particular jsk style looks a lot like that particular dress, doesn't mean that they have the same origin or the same style. In the same way, you can find "loliable" items from non lolita brands or random taobao stores, but that doesn't make the items themselves inherently "lolita", they are just "loliable".

I thought we'd never get this topic again. Last time it was newbies wanting to wear prom dresses with shoulder straps because a poofy skirt meant it was a jsk. Remember, lolita is not just the shape of a dress.

Otome isn't strictly lolita, though sometimes the two overlap. Casual should always be lolita. Casual tends to be more matchy matchy while otome can be less monochromatic (but shouldn't look less coordinated). The goal of otome is to try and have a mature cute look and tends to use more classic styled items, though sweet theme otome coords exist. Casual lolita doesn't aim for any particular aesthetic beyond not being ott and usually not being as extensively coordinated as a normal lolita outfit. In otome, you still go hardcore on your coording as it's not a lack of items that makes the coord feel subdued.

Sometimes whether a coord is casual or otome can be up to interpretation. It's especially hard to decide if its casual classic or otome and sometimes the answer is just asking what the wearer was intending with their coord.
