>Will you post?
Yes, this will be my fourth year.

>Has your wardrobe changed?
Not really in style now that I've settled pretty well into what I like, but definitely in size and colors. I've gotten a lot more basics and branched out into new and more unusual colors.

>Whose wardrobe would you like to see?
Mostly just looking forward to various friends on Facebook, but also hoping for xylia and jahrhundert.

I'm still trying to figure out the best way to do the photos. I was thinking of doing flat group pictures to include everything, but then also throw on one or two coordinates for variety? I also have a dressform--do you guys think it's worth the effort to use it?

This is my first year posting. I've followed the fashion on and off for ten years, but I bought 95% of my burando in the past year and a half. I have one rack in my closet of just burando. It's really nothing compared to a lot of wardrobes I've seen, but I'm super lazy and organizing and photographing that much stuff is kind of daunting to me.

Speaking of being lazy, my SO and I are pretty bad about keeping our apartment clean, I've been using this as some motivation to get everything straightened up. It's really distracting to see messy backgrounds.

>It's the lightning from my soft boxes yes
?? I was talking about how the petticoat gives the dress a weird silhouette, nothing about lighting? Pic related, it looks like "jellyfish."

It's not about being overstuffed, the problem is that either your petti isn't really a-line or it's not long enough.

But yeah, like I said, it would have looked much better if you just laid out the dresses on a pretty sheet. Less work, since you don't have to dress a dress form every time for pics.

Oh god, I'm imagining taking photos of single socks and I can't stop laughing. No, No, I'm not taking photos of single socks alone. I'm going to lay out as many socks as will fit in the frame, snap, repeat. Same with accessories. I'd be here a year if I put a single pair of socks in a single photo.

Anyways, I have over 100* dresses and skirts right now. Last year I hit the limit when I paired two dresses per photo. This year, I'm taking photos on a dressform, so I figure I'd line up 3-5 photos in a strip and save them as a single image to save on how much text is put in the LJ post. I can totally write a little about each piece; but I'm not sure if it would fit. What I'm wondering is if people would rather seem more text with smaller photos, or larger photos with less text.

* I'm taking photos of my stuff and my girlfriend's stuff at the same time; I think I have roughly 100 main pieces on my own, and then she has maybe another 25, but I'm not 100% sure. So I'm looking at maybe 100-150 dresses and skirts? She's too busy sewing to make a post of her own this year, but wanted to share.

>> No.8033923

Well, yeah, there always are. It's more common when people are re-using pupegirl photos or sales photos and/or have smaller wardrobes.

LJ posts have a max of 65,535 bytes (trivia: in mySQL that's the length of a 'text' field type). It's roughly something like 21,000-22,000 characters.

A single linked image when I upload them to my webserver is ~167 characters. Each item name & brand typed out without links is something like 50 characters on average. A short two sentences about a piece is another 250 characters.

So that means if you photograph things separately, it comes out to you hitting the limit at roughly 96 photos with just the names.

If you write two sentences on each photo, you can only post like ~45 photos. So it's physically impossible for me to post all my socks separately.

I'm currently cleaning + reconditioning + polishing all my shoes because I'm taking my photos inside which is usually a shoe-free environment, so even the soles are getting at least a wipe-down if not a scrub with a shoe brush. I'm also contemplating a sales post since I realised how little I've worn some items.

Thankfully I've got a pretty small wardrobe (20 main pieces) so it's not so bad. I'm grouping things together to try and show the themes etc. I'm feeling a bit insecure because it's very much still a WIP - I don't have a sought-after wardrobe but nor do I have the nicely curated, cohesive wardrobe I want (and would want to show off). My style changed a lot so I revamped my wardrobe a lot and it halved in size, plus I've sold all the stuff in my wardrobe that was actually vaguely 'popular'/gets good responses. On the other hand, I know I'm not going to have the shittiest wardrobe post of the month after that godawful one that got posted recently.

>> No.8044238

I don't think I even want to try to this year. Though it probably won't even be that hard, last time I group like 2 or 3 at a time. I try to group similar or prints that are all the same. I have like 9 main pieces, but I rarely ever get to wear lolita so it's more than enough for me. >> No.8044341

>>8044332
Oh, please post anyways! I think wardrobe posts shouldn't all be about "collections" and Lolita dress collectors. I look at wardrobes as inspirations when building my own wardrobe, thus it is so nice to see the diversity between collectors/hoarders - everyday lolitas/boring - trend-setters/brand-whores - I'm writing the / between all the tags because, everyone has an opinion - you can either look at it positive - like "that Loli has a truly awsome collection" or being a negative bitch like "that loli clearly has a hoarding problem collecting all those items and no room to store them"! There are always two sides of a story. I don't really care about what "type" you are, I enjoy all wardrobe posts as long as they are well executed and have good photos.

Both will probably get you a decent amount of comments as long as it's nicely presented and cohesive. My first wardrobe post was only about 10 pieces, but it's a themed wardrobe, so the number of comments was average despite the small size. And as long as you keep a large wardrobe interesting and well-maintained (ei if there's a theme or clear colour palatte) it's not boring to scroll through. I agree. I'm not much interested in off-brand owner/coord pics so I just skip over them, just like RL. Not saying they shouldn't be included in complete wardrobe posts, just that I find them boring. If I post my wardrobe it will go 'rare pieces, standout pieces, regular but branded, then anything indie/offbrand/loliables'.

I agree with your last statement about it being worth it, but the first one is a bit much. I get where you are coming from and understand your passion for the brands, it's just there's fake everything everywhere. Don't stress too much okay? Just ignore them if you can, there is no helping those who have replicas until they either figure it out themselves or they just never do.

>I'm thinking of grouping all the small stuff (blouses, vests, etc) but taking single pictures of my dresses and skirts.

Do that Anon. Unless a wardrobe has like 50+ main pieces I enjoy the individual shots way more then when there are several dresses on one picture (esepcially with print dresses).

>> No.8051337

>>8051321

Definitely single main pieces, grouped blouses. If you want to conserve space, you can put two dresses on the same line, or combine two individual pictures of dresses together.

With blouses, after a while they start to all blend together, so you can group blouses of the same 'grouping' (e.g. color or style) in the same photo to emphasize a certain theme or style.

Thanks! That confirms what I was thinking. I'm also taking a close up of each main piece, to show the print or some nice detail. I'll collage those together, so the detail is a little inset in the photo. I'm excited, going to do the bulk of it this weekend.

I think they're 15 now anon, their english isnt very good. If their family is rich they probably wouldnt think much of it. She said she worked 'a lot of hours at minimum wage' and given the amount of free time most 13 year olds actually have (summer holidays etc) and the lack of overheads (i.e. parents pay for everything else) it's not unreasonable that she has enough hours at $10/hr (she mentioned Montreal, so I assume she's Canadian) to buy those things herself. I had a friend who at age 14 had worked enough in her summer holidays to pay for flights to France from Australia (admittedly this is at Australian minimum wage, but the dollar wasn't as good as it is now and the minimum wage was quite a bit lower than now)

>there's so few sweet lolitas posting on the wardrobe. Has it fallen out of style or are the sweets too young and don't care about egl?

There were quite a few Sweet posts, but I have seen several "changing to Classic"-wardrobes. OTT Classic is also more in style this year. Pretty sure people like Cadney or Kate the glass girl for example sold some Sweet stuff to buy Classic. I also have the feeling that some Sweet Lolitas tend to buy and sell dresses every few month so that they never have a consistent wardrobe that would be worth posting (thinking about Lor here) while most Gothic and Classic Lolitas hold on to their pieces.

You also have to consider: Many Lolitas are older now and transitioning to Otome and Classic or leaving Lolita all together - Milkyfawn for example, and I doubt Fanny Rosie would post her wardrobe. Also the younger Lolitas often don't use egl anymore and hence do not post their wardrobe (or rather prefer posting it on tumblr for the notes).

I won't be able to post until next week. I'm only a third of the way done with pictures--it's taking me forever because I can only take them when there's natural light, and I don't get off work until it's already dark. Hashtag Lolita problems.

I have the same issue, I'm at work and class all day everyday throughout the week, and it's too dark when I get home to take pictures, using the light in my room results in pictures with a weird tint. Clothing can rack up quick... for a rich parent, it isn't like a lolita dress is any more expensive then another dress they might buy for their daughter.

We have a "specialty clothier". They sell shirts, dresses, and the ilk for 200 to 300 dollars.

Buckle charges 50 dollars for a men's t-shirt.

For the rich, this is pocket change.

Honestly I'm a student, I get some money from my dad which covers rent and work 15 hours a week for the rest of my expenses. I could afford a $300 dress a month if I didn't eat out as much. It's not that great of a luxury for anyone who works 40 hours in a job that requires some education.
