Hi anon, I'm turning 25 very soon and I'm in the same boat. I was harm free for over a year but a bad living situation caused me to fail. It's the worst feeling. Lolita also helps me feel temporarily happy, but I know it's really just a bandaid fix. I buy items to make myself feel better but it doesn't actually help. I have some good friends but I'm too ashamed to talk about my mental health problems with them because, like you said, it feels like such a high school issue. I've been struggling with self harm for over 10 years now, it's really pathetic and embarrassing.

Anyway, it's a bit comforting to me to know that there's someone else going through something similar, knowing you're not alone is kind of nice... sending love.

Bro, you're definitely not suited for lolita. Go to this thread >>8002143
Pick a weeb outfit and enjoy crossdressing.

As for lolitas, it's a group that takes their fashion hobby very seriously. If you even need to ask whether to prioritise feels over appearance, or you think this is just a passing fancy, then don't bother with lolita. Half-assing your lolita outfit and then showing to a meetup will get you branded as a creeper and a fetishist, you will not be welcome.

Seagulls, please help. ;_;
My dress from ClosetChild came in. And it's in pretty bad condition despite them marking it at 3.

First of all, it's covered in tiny hairs. Some of which are curly, lol....
And the arm pits are a discolored yellow.

None of this was stated in the conditions.

Is there anything I can do?

There's a recession right now in Japan. A lot of companies in retail have been crimped with the raising of the sales tax from 5% to 8% thanks to PM Shinzo Abe. It's not getting better as it will rise again to 10% late in the year. Abenomics does not seem to working at the moment.

Japan is suffering through a David Harvey moment where their primary sectors (manufacturing) are shifting away to secondary (fashion) and tertiary sectors (banking). Luckily the Japanese fashion brands (Uniqlo, BTSSB, AP) have been diversifying and expanding globally.

Actually the declining exchange rate is supposed to generate more exports for Japan. As their items will become cheaper for foreigners. However, I believe that the brands will need to raise prices soon to compensate for the lost profit abroad. Lolita fashion has a high demand here, but a small, yet growing market. I'm willing to pay $300+ for a JSK from AP, not $250. I've noticed from AP USA's website the prices for new brand has decline in the last few months. IW needs to do the same on raising their prices. BTSSB/AATP seems to keep their prices the same.

this method will further cripple domestic sales. not only do wages remain stagnant, but the purchasing power of the yen is weaker, so raising prices will hurt japanese lolitas, which is bad considering they're the target and majority of the niche lolita market, not the foreigners. the japanese brands would never do this, however the best method would be to change the prices on the online shop to cover the difference (making foreigners pay more), but keeping in-store prices the same, which declines domestic online sales but increases domestic instore sales.

>however the best method would be to change the prices on the online shop to cover the difference (making foreigners pay more), but keeping in-store prices the same, which declines domestic online sales but increases domestic instore sales

This is something that should be taken into consideration. A another solution would be for brands splitting the online shopping sites for domestic and foreign buyers as retail websites have done like Amazon, Dior, or Apple. Foreign buyers pay more, domestic buyers less. While keeping the in-store prices the same, foreign buyers could travel to Japan for shopping trips. I remember the Europeans doing that when the US Dollar sunk to all time lows in 2007 and 2008.

Leggings are SO significantly different from OTKs. Leggings are like trousers but made of skinny material. You don't want those for Lolita. If you want something to cover your legs completely, then you want tights - you'll probably have to buy them off-brand, and you'll want them in the biggest size (they go by leg length rather than waist width). Plain colours will be better than patterns if you're wearing patterned outfits.

DO NOT go sleeveless. I assume you mean wearing a jumperskirt without a blouse, and that is a no-no. For a start, you'll want a nice frilly blouse to bulk up your chest and hide that lack of boobs. Secondly, you'll want sleeves because they'll go some way to covering up your arm muscles and hairs and they won't look as weird as long gloves. (It should go without saying that you'll be shaving your armpits, but that's not an area that's generally left uncovered).

I would consider getting a blouse with princess sleeves (pic related) - for a start, they will be an easier fit because of the wide cuff, and they'll also make your arms seem skinnier and more girly.

Oh, and invest in a good wig, a wide comb, and detangling spray. You'll be wearing a wig of some kind every time you want to go brolita successfully, so you should look after the ones you have. Avoid bobbed styles because they'll frame your face too much.

All brand (no Bodyline or Taobao) wardrobe, half prints and half non-print, never paid more than $150 for a dress, either direct from brand or secondhand.
Obv I don't have all the latest or most sought-after prints, but it's a fairly well-rounded collection. Japanese secondhand sites and auctions tend to have the best loot, but sometimes you can snap up really good deals on LM and EGL Sales if you're quick.

I get stuff new if it's a NEED or if I like it and can tell it will be popular enough to warrant scalpers, I hate paying over retail for stuff. I remember people talking mad shit about Melty Cream Donut before release, saying it wouldn't be popular, etc. The pink can still go for $350 plus, so I'm glad I bought it at release because I really loved it and wasn't influenced by opinions, trust your gut!

If it's not a need, I hope it's unpopular and scoop it up in an auction or sale later.

Not sure whether this is the best place to ask, but how much should i expect to pay approximately for SS fees and shipping if i were to get something off yja/mbok? I remember there being a chart somewhere but I can't find it anymore

(Basically despite it being listed for sale occasionally on more western sales sites as well, pic related seems to be listed for far less on yja/mbok sometimes... so i'm wondering at what price it'd actually be more worth it to buy through an ss)

Depends what SS you're using. Remember, there will also be domestic Japanese shipping in addition to whatever international shipping you use.

As for me, I use Japonica, spend usually somewhere between 1000-1500 yen on SS fees and domestic shipping, and then typically less than 30 USD for EMS to the US, since I usually don't do large hauls.

Even if they wanted to sell or buy a replica, they could still do it on lacemarket under the design replica category. Are these people either so lazy/ignorant that they can't make a simple account on an ebay-tier website?

>> No.8044496

Look at similar SS to get a feel for the competition: rates, what they do, terms of service, problems they've had.
Decide what you're comfortable doing (in-store only? Auctions? Online shopping? Crazy reserves? Hunting down dream dresses at Closet Child?)
Set up a FB page & webpage with your info
Get pals to provide feedback on service you've already provided

If your fees are reasonable and your service is good, you won't need to advertise a ton. Word of mouth is likely your best bet for slowly building up your business to a level you can handle and will help make sure you're reaching customers who are reliable and sane - you can advertise on egl-sales-lj or some of the FB sales comms, but you're likely to net a lot of flakes that way. Be careful not to get overloaded with orders right out of the gate: it won't be fun and you'll risk getting a reputation for being unreliable as you struggle to keep up, which seems to be what really hurts a lot of SSs when they first start up.

If you just want to get the word out, you can easily make a post on egl_comm_sales. The tag for shopping service is !ss and the you should start your post title with SS. Then just write your location and other details about where you're willing to shop, what you're willing to do, what kind of time frame you're ok to respond to, conditions about payment, how much is non refundable, shipping terms, right to refuse customers, that kind of thing.

About feedback, you don't need to actually have positive feedback to post on egl_comm_sales, you just need a feedback page, even a blank one. Although of course, a blank page means less girls will trust you. You can link to other places where you have feedback if you think it will help.
