What's the best legwear to go with for tartan?

I'm getting in a red tartan dress, here I'm seeing knee socks, solids, stripes, argyle, and even other prints. What's your opinion?

I'm going ith a white blouse, black neck bow, and black shoes, so I was going to do white base colored legwear, just not quite sure which way to take it.

I'd probably prefer tights since my legs are kind of long and I'm getting in a salo.

You could try getting tights with a subtle pattern!

Keyword is subtle though. You don't want them to be too busy because of the tartan.

I love tartan so much, it takes up about a third of my Lolita wardrobe currently between dresses and a coat. Also grainy self-posting, for some reason I always forget to take pics when I wear tartan.

I don't think that makes much sense, though, since by that definition a gingham is a tartan.
It goes on to talk about the tartans of the clans. My family is Scottish and has a tartan, though my knowledge is pretty basic. I've always heard of the specific clans' patterns being called a tartan. Some call them a plaid, but I've told that's incorrect.

You're not gonna get in trouble for calling your jsk a tartan or a plaid nor for wearing it in the first place. We could argue more if you're going the full kilt and sporran route, but even then, I haven't heard anything bad about that. American highland games would be super frowned upon if that were the case.

If you're still worried, just call everything plaid.

If you're worried about your legs looking too long, vertical will lengthen them. But those kind of tights are great. I'd definitely recommend them.

A tartan, as a physical object, is the patterned piece of cloth, as well.

Like a proper kilt is made from a tartan wrapped around the body in a certain way. It's not just any plaid/printed fabric, though.
